The night-time drive here was windy and nondescript. I felt as though my GPS was wrong and it was taking me to someone's suburban home. Much to my delight, it was indeed a restaurant and a delicious one at that. The short-rib was absolutely to die for. The only aspects that keep it at a 4 for me were the small seating area, and the long wait in between our entrees and appetizers. I imagine the wait had a lot to do with the fact that we were a table of 7 and it was crowded. Nonetheless, an hour wait between apps and entrees is a bit much. I can't speak highly enough on the quality of food though. read more

We ate here on a Saturday night in September 2020. We were looking forward to relishing the usual excellent, exciting and flavorful food of Jonathan Pratt. We didn't know that this famous inn/restaurant had been sold earlier this year. The new owners continue to use the name of Peter Pratt and there is no mention on their website that the restaurant is under new ownership. In fact, under the "Story" page on their website, there is no word about the restaurant changing hands and Jon Pratt's name is still there with the title of "Executive Chef". When we arrived, we immediately felt a vibe that things were hectic. The tables were spaced and set up well under an outside canopy and all staff wore masks. People were enjoying themselves, the live duo singing was very loud and we could hardly hear each other speak. We waited a long while for pre-dinner drinks: my gin and tonic was weak and the glass was filled with a generous amount of ice which diluted it even more. The apple martini that my wife had was also weak and the blending of the mix was off. The dinner rolls were of the consistency and taste of cardboard. I ordered the Maine lobster roll with hand cut fries and house-made slaw. The lobster tasted as if it came out of a frozen pack, defrosted and stuck on the roll. The fries were barely warm and limp. The slaw looked old and was dry and it was served in a tiny, tiny plastic black container. My food was tasteless and unappetizing and I swallowed it down with a mediocre glass of Alverdi pinot grigio which was the house white. My wife had a better deal with the salmon which was placed on a small amount of couscous with green sauce on the plate. Dessert was much better. We had the sticky date pudding and a meagre piece of flourless chocolate cake. I know that my review sounds harsh, but I felt cheated. Nowhere on their website is the public alerted to the fact of the change of ownership so we expected the usual delicious food and the faces of people that we knew. We were looking forward to celebrating our wedding anniversary as we had got married at Peter Pratt's some years ago. A friend of ours called the restaurant while we were dining and asked if she could buy us glasses of champagne as a surprise. "Of course", she was told. We never received the drinks. Situated in an old historic barn, this restaurant blew us away. From the cozy, dark interior with the fireplace roaring, to the amazing staff and service, this is easily one of the best restaurants in northern westchester. My wife and I came for the restaurant week menu and enjoyed every course. The duck confit mac and cheese was served still bubbling and had large pieces of tender duck meat, the smell of the mussels reached across the table from my wife's dish to my nose like those cartoony pies steaming in the window. We split both apps, but it didn't stop there. I ordered the mole pork with pozole, as I'm a sucker for a good mole sauce, and wifey went for the steak with cabernet reduction. It was perfection, tender pork who's flavor changed with each bite, and I couldn't help but sop up the wine reduction after she was done. Dessert at that point was just icing on the cake, pun intended. Warm cinnamon roll and chilly tiramisu was a great end to the meal. Almost made a reservation to go back the next night but with a 1 year old you take any night you can get. We will be back to try the regular menu. read more

What a wonderful gem tucked into the hills of Yorktown. I hate to see poor reviews, because anyone listening to them and skipping this restaurant will miss out on a wonderful experience. Great people, wonderful atmosphere, never too noisy. Food is great and ample portions in spite of other review. Jon Pratt, the owner, is typically on site and his staff are friendly and helpful. Living in Westchester for the last 11 years, this is one of my go-to spots for a great meal in a warm setting. My parents got engaged and also had their wedding here 35 years ago. When I got engaged this past Christmas, we thought, what better way to celebrate than here with our family? My mom called ahead to make a reservation, and explained the history our family has with the restaurant. When we arrived, I was disappointed there was no congratulations, nothing special, just another night out to dinner. Food was terrible. Service was so-so. I hate to give this restaurant only one of five stars.... It has a beautiful setting! We have been long time aficionados of this inn; in fact, we were married there and held our children's bar and bat mitzvahs there as well. So it is with sadness that I write this. We had a reservation for six and when we arrived.... They didn't have our reservation. We waited fifteen to twenty minutes for them to put our table together.... We were seated in their empty tent... which looked as if a party had just been held... the other tables were without cloths, and appeared to be just wood table tops.. not very pleasant to look at. There were heaters, but they couldn't find find propane tanks for them, and we waited for thirty minutes before they put one on.... which wasn't enough for our table.... And by that time, we were hungry and our order had not been taken. Finally, a waiter came to us and we ordered. It was restaurant week, and so we ordered drinks, and then we ordered from the restaurant week menu. The salads came, and one of our party had ordered a salad without dressing, which came with dressing. It was sent back. The soup was cold, and was sent back, and when it returned,it was only lukewarm. It was a mushroom and barley soup, but twas thick and unappealing. The entrees were served.... The mussels were just ok, with little sauce! The burgers were just okay, and the salmon too. Nothing was really hot! Desserts-- the cheesecake looked and tasted as it it just came out of the freezer as did the chocolate cake. The cutlery and glassware was cheap and light and unappealing. All in all, I understand that the Inn was bought last year, and then covid hit. However, this restaurant has a reputation to keep up, and it has failed in my book to do so. I am so disappointed! Had seen this place on Yelp but when my man Nick Dipaolo mentioned on his podcast that he had went here, I had to go. The servers, Megan and Tom, were polite, attentive and had a good sense of humor. The place is historical, very old, yet quite charming. Every dish ordered at the table was great. The Waygu burger and BBQ chicken were the stars, along with the donuts for dessert and the hen of the woods (mushroom) soup. I asked about a dessert I saw in one of the Yelp pics which wasn't on the menu and for the first time in my life I ordered an off the menu item. I was quite proud of myself. My wife and I went there on a Saturday night. We sat down at 6:30, so it wasn't very crowded. The atmosphere is cozy if not a little on the dark side. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive, though it did seem like our waitress had one too many tables. For appetizers, my wife had a salad and I had tuna tartare over guacamole, which we both liked. For entrees, my wife had the lamb shank over mashed potatoes, which she loved. I had scalllops, which were tasty, but a little overcooked. For dessert, we split the stick date cake, which made the entire evening worth it. It was simply one of the best desserts I've had in quite some time! read more

Update: I recently returned for 3 more meals here, and they really scored higher all 3 times. First, they did some painting, and it really made the place shine. Second, J Pratt is back in the kitchen, and it shows!!! The food is just stunning, the service much improved, and the people are nice. Plus, they started a nice bar night with a different menu and now they have some absolutely incredible ultra thin crust pizza. So close to 5 stars it hurts, but I don't give them out too often... Do not miss your chance to catch Pratt's at its best! Previous Review: Ok, so I wanted this to be a 4 or 5 star place, but it fell just short. Let me explain: I LOVED the building. An old tavern, it has low ceilings, original wood beams running across the ceiling and all. The Wine list was very interesting - different and interesting. I had a hard time picking, but eneded up with a fantastic Vacqueyras and a good NY state Rkatsitelli, a grape I have never found on any list anywhere else. However, the room needed a little TLC to make it feel more welcoming, as it could be with a little bit of color and maybe some new chairs? The food was good - I had a "foijita" - fois gras fajita - which was better than average but nothing to fall in love with. The rack of lamb was amazing though, and went well with the wine. The service was slow, surprising for a place that was not full that night, and in fact it has never been full when i went there. I would like to see them do a little work to revive this place, spice it up a little bit, because the food is clearly good and they have the right idea. As a destination spot, they need to do more to make it a destination. I'll definitely be back because it was not too expensive for what it is, but not cheap either. And the friendliness of the front-of the house staff was unforgettable and warm. I want to go back and review again in the hopes that they have addressed some of these issues... read more

The setting and the decor are very special, rustic with old beams and a fire place. The service is professional. The ingredients are good. The food is fresh and on point, not over cooked or undercooked. The big but is that there is very little seasoning used and the food is just not interesting enough to drive out on a rainy night through back roads. I had their duck quesadilla which didn't have much duck, their pork roast which was perfectly cooked but super bland. Their flourless chocolate cake was tiny but delicious. This was the restaurant week menu. If the food isn't good on restaurant week, why would I ever want to return? It wouldn't have taken much to put this in the very good category, a little homemade chutney or apple compote with the pork, a little more duck in the quesadilla, a little more flavor in the potatoes. read more

Rather disappointing. Service very patchy, food generally very good, but with significant gaps. Arrived on a foggy winter night, found the entrance, and while putting our coats in the (deserted) coat room and getting ourselves together (party of six), was accosted by a woman who informed us we used the wrong entrance, she was the coatroom guru, hand 'em over. OK, on to our table. Confused and quite unprofessional drinks orders, delivered to wrong people, etc. Same for food, plus delivery of items we never ordered. Missing silverware. My food was luke warm. Creme brulee was torched hours ago and held in the frig and served warm to on the cool side. Not what I expected. read more

I recently went to Peter Pratts for its annual boarskin dinner. I even met the head chef Nico to congratulate him on his amazing boarskin. His boarskin was so succulent, tender, and juicey it just melted in your mouth. Chef nico really prepares his boarskin like non other. Not only was it delicious but it was a much larger portion than your average boarskin. Chef Nico is also very humble and refused to take credit for the delicious boarskin and said that he couldn't have done it with out the rest of the staff that handled his boarskin. Taking one look at Chef Nicos face as he presented his boarskin you could tell that it was prepared with extra care. When I left I was litteraly stuffed with boarskin and could barely move. Went here for outdoor dining as me and my wife were dying to go out to dinner. Been here in the past and it was great food and great service. Well the food and service is still great, but do not come here if you are nervous about COVID. They had the tables 6 ft a part and had one sign that said "masks required". That's where the safety ended. They didn't enforce the mask rule. There were a ton of patrons walking around (close to tables and going inside) the deck with no masks. There were children allowed to run around without masks as well. The worst part was the BUS BOY walking around the restaurant serving water with no mask (it was around his mask). The owner was there and saw this happening and said NOTHING. The masks are not to protect yourself - they're to protect others from catching the virus. I will not be returning, and advise most people not to return until COVID is over. Our waitress Rachel was amazing though - I need to give her credit for being safe and being friendly. read more

Each time we dine at Pratt's, we are extremely satisfied with our meals. Not only is the food absolutely unique and delicious, the portions are plentiful. If you have a special request or food restrictions, they are always willing to make changes and still keep the food creative and tasty. Want a more casual experience? Sit at the bar and converse with (only if you want to) extremely interesting people. Want a more intimate setting? Sit near the beautiful always working fireplace. It's a real joy bringing friends there for the first time as they settle in, take in the cozy ambiance, talk to the waitstaff and John Pratt, and then taste their food. No one I know has left unsatisfied. The other night we had Venison Osso Bucco and Duck Lola - 2 of the best meals we've ever had anywhere! We love the place! read more

What a hidden gem! The ambience here is fantastic. You feel like you've been transported back in time (like three centuries!). The rustic gutsy decor honors the historical significance of the building. The food here is treated with respect -- the ingredients shine through. There's no over-seasoning, just good clean flavor combinations. The Ahi Crudo was great, followed by the amazing Rohan Duck Breast. And for dessert... watch out: Sticky Date Cake.
