Excellent dermatologist - solved a problem that no one else could even identify (poikiloderma of civatte, yeah I know) and sent me to someone who could fix it (as well as spell it). Do not expect warm and fuzzy; expect incredibly competent and direct. read more

Headline here is that this doctor was not thorough in his skin cancer screenings, to the extent that I went to see another doctor months after my last visit, who found something I believe dr Halperin should have caught, maybe much sooner. This doctor was always nice and relatively patient. Probably fine for some of your needs, but I would discourage anyone from going for routine screenings for sure. read more

I called the office today upon the recommendation of a co-worker. I have never been spoken to so rudely by his receptionist. She barked at me and then hung up on me. After getting other recommendations I've decided to go elsewhere. If you look at some of the physician review sites you can see many many people have complained about his staff. If the doctor is ignoring the feedback then I'm sure somewhere in NYC there is a doctor who actually gives a hoot about how his potential and current patients are treated. read more

I found his bedside manner to be lacking. He didn't inspire trust or make me feel like he was invested in my health outcomes.

Not just a fantastic dermatologist (he knows what he's talking about), but the office is super helpful in getting whatever you need done, done. Haven't been in recently enough to get that refilled? We'll get you a sample in order to make sure that you're okay in the short term, schedule an appointment with you immediately next week, and if you give me the name of your pharmacy I'll call them right now. Went for an skin cancer screening and a few other issues after being recommended. When I told Dr. Halperin about my skincare routine he rolled his eyes and said I shouldn't "rely on Google." Then he did a skin check that maybe lasted 2 minutes for my entire body. I was given coupons for the Rx he prescribed and sent on my way. My very good insurance didn't cover any of the Rx, and after arguing with staff for alternatives I found out they were the same OTC treatments Dr. Halperin condescendingly told me not to use! He prescribed Rx that he receives commission on, not ones that are suited for the patient; hence the coupons and dismissal of my routine. Went to another dermatologist after this terrible experience and had another skin check. They found melanoma and removed it. Then I was praised on my skin care routine and given proper treatment for my other issues. Stay away from this money hungry MD that doesn't give a hoot about his patients. read more

I've been using Dr. Halperin for a few years. I have a relatively rare skin condition that no dermatologists were able to treat. It took me 6 months of suffering to finally find Dr. Halperin. He gave me the right medication on the very first visit. If you are looking for a competent doctor, he's the right one for you. read more

Other dermatologists have been immediately cutting out tiny spots for testing. One (Binstock in San Fran, CA) called one a "pre-melanoma," which some dermatologists have never heard of. Halperin has been great, solved a slight growth/discoloration with just a cream rather than cutting. He is efficient and his staff has been very professional, so I'm surprised at some of the comments in this regard. I will go back to him now as my primary dermatologist. read more

Dr Halperin comes off as an expert in his field, he clearly explained the nature of my skin issues and why they happen. He prescribed two medications for dandruff and itchy skin with enough refills and both were very effective in the long run. read more

Dr. Halperin's office waiting room is very small, has rather poor dim lighting, and, when I was there, it was very hot and stuffy. It was very crowded, and there were no amenities--no music, no television, no AC. I found the doctor to be technically competent, but rather dismissive of my problem. He sort of poked fun, and refused to take my issue seriously even though I was quite worried. He was not in the least empathetic, and seemed to consider me as a joke! Go elsewhere! read more

It's not easy to find doctors who are patient and compassionate and make the time to make you feel you have their undivided attention. Dr. Peter Halperin does that for me every time I see him. I've been going to him for six years for skin cancer screenings, treatment for eczema and cosmetic procedures and he and his staff are always professional and helpful and available. He called me himself the day after a procedure to see how I was doing. I would have understood if he had his nurse called me, but he made the effort to call me himself, which was lovely. I trust him and highly recommend him to those who want both an excellent clinician and a nice human being. read more

I saw Halperin a few months ago. Felt uneasy when the first thing he did after entering the patient room was reading the brand label on my coat hanging on the back of the door. Why did that even interest him? The annual visit lasted less than five minutes. Gave me a smile and said "all good see you next year". That was it! I felt cheated after waiting 1.5 hours in the tiny waiting room. There are way more thorough dermatologists in Manhattan that are willing to spend time with their patients. read more

I have nothing but praise for Dr. Halperin who has been my dermatologist for years and for innumerable examinations, including a number of biopsies. His assessments of problematic moles and lesions (and those that are not) have without exception been proven perfectly correct. Most recently during a routine skin check in June, Dr. Halperin found a suspicious irregularity on my back and took a biopsy. He described the results as "not having all the characteristics of a melanoma" but was nevertheless quite dangerous and had to be removed. He referred me to another distinguished doctor specializing in dermatologic oncology and Mohs surgery. He agreed with Dr. Halperin regarding the plain danger of the lesion and just last week successfully eliminated the threat by means of the Mohs procedure. I am especially grateful to Dr. Halperin for his invariably empathic consideration for a difficult patient. Although I worry acutely about cancer, he has always stood by me. At the end of one of my nervous visits, he said in the kindest way possible that he would be available to me at any time I felt distressed. Was recommended by my physician, went there, didn't wait too long, very courteous did a full body skin cancer check, asked if I had any concern about anything. Told him what I was concerned about and he fixed one issue right away and give me a referral for the other, said he was very good at what he did and highly recommended him. This doctor is a total scam! Stay away from him. First, he is incompetent - over a year ago, he performed a "complete" skin check on me and did not notice a skin cancer even though I pointed out the spot to him! Finally, this year after I insisted on him having a second look, he performed a biopsy, and guess what - it was skin cancer that had spread out! The consequences of this happening are quite big, both financially, emotionally, and in terms of the scar. Second, when I went to the appointment with him, I explicitly asked for the price (both in advance and at the time of the appointment). I explained that I had not met the deductible of my insurance yet, hence I would be covering 100% of the cost as well as that in a week I would be switching insurances. In other words the cost was a big decision-making factor for me and I made that clear. I asked (not once - 3 times!), both the front office and him personally what the cost would be. They gave me a price. I carefully confirmed with them that it would include everything. The answer was yes. I agreed to the amount they said and paid it. Guess what - a few weeks later, I get a bill for another huge amount... Without informing me, and obviously without my consent, the doctor had asked a 3rd party to perform some of the service, hence the 2nd (huge) bill. Had I known this, I would not have agreed to the procedure and would have waited a week until my new insurance started. Now, I am responsible for the bill. Both doctors declined to take care of it (not even a portion) passing the ball to each other and me. The insurance (justly so / I knew that) cannot cover it because, as I said, the deductible was not met. Not only was this doctor's behavior purposefully misleading and unethical, but he was extremely unpleasant to deal with once that happened and I asked to speak with him. So, if you want to save yourself similar and likely additional trouble, take my advice and stay away from him. read more

His office was deceptive about the billing practices. The office staff informed me they took my insurance but after seeing Dr. Halperin and having a small lesion sprayed with a hand held liquid nitrogen tank for a few seconds I was billed 300 dollars. When I complained , Robin, the billing coordinator said it was cryosurgery and I had to pay my deductible. I was not told that freezing a lesion was surgery and would never have assumed it would be. Robin, the billing coordinator's response was that "I am responsible for knowing my insurance coverage". Even if I did, I would never have thought this was surgery. In addition, the coordinator claimed I was told by the staff I would be responsible for any surgery, which is absolutely not true. I am a physician and understand quality practices and transparency. I was totally mislead. Even as a physician I would have never thought this was surgery, That being said, if his office bills spraying a lesion with liquid surgery, they should have clearly been mentioned that before hand. No consent or discussion of alternative treatments was had and the entire process was fraudulent as far as I am concerned. A physician in private practice picks his staff and controls how they behave and treat patients. As such he is equally responsible for misleading and deceptive practices. I would never see this this physician. You have lots of choices of doctors in Manhattan. Why go to one with deceptive practices. Go to your insurance website. You will find lots of qualified physicians. read more
