I'd like to share my experience at a time of personal fear ... and my gratitude for the treatment I received from Dr. Ron Shelton at the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York. My regular dermatologist had diagnosed cancer on a "bump" that had appeared on my body at - okay, embarrassingly ... on my butt. And after a tiny bit was removed for testing, the results showed it was CANCER ... which needed to be removed BEFORE it had a chance to spread! Three separate times my dermatologist tried to remove it ... slicing off layers of skin, each time. Unpleasant and a bit frightening. But lab tests kept showing that the cancer had not yet been fully removed. That's why I was referred to Dr. Shelton for Mohs Micrographic Surgery. Frankly, that made me nervous. Well, even the word "surgery" scares me. So I arrived to see Dr. Shelton in a state of worry ... and polite alarm. What struck me immediately, though, was the warmth and cordiality of the staff I encountered, supporting ALL the doctors at this clinic. As a former corporate exec in sales and motivation, I'm trained to sense whether "team spirit" is authentic ... or fake. The sense of mutual support, respect and cooperation among the staff was confidence-building. Then I met Dr. Shelton and several of the nurses who supported me during the surgery. I was/am tremendously impressed. The nurses were clearly knowledgeable, warm, respectful and reassuringly CLEAR in answering my various questions. By now I had learned that the remarkable procedure I would experience allows the physician to identify cancerous skin tissue and remove it WITHOUT taking away more than is absolutely necessary. But what most impressed me was Dr. Shelton, himself. It's a nervous situation - or it was for ME - but it was apparent from his very presence that he REALLY knows what he's doing. AND he's got a warm, human, personal aura of approachability, even though his major intelligence is immediately clear when you hear him speak. I was struck by his obvious expertise combined with the personal and calming aura of his personality. He's friendly and super-smart at once! But the proof is in the pudding, as my English teacher said in high school. The fact is, I've now had the surgery ... and it was MUCH easier than I'd expected. During the time when the wound was healing, and before I went back to see Dr. Shelton again (for removing the stitches) ... any time I called with a question, I received cordial and intelligent answers ... always being treated respectfully and never feeling like an annoyance. (I tend to have a LOT of questions.) Frankly, Dr. Shelton - as far as I can tell - is simultaneously one of the most skillful masters of medical and scientific expertise that I can imagine ... but he manages to be that way with so much genuine caring and ease. I would never have chosen to have cancer and to need its surgical removal. But given that life gave me no choice, I'm tremendously grateful that I was lucky enough to get Dr. Ron Shelton as my surgeon! read more

I want to personally share my miraculous experience with Dr. Shelton at the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York. I had suffered with a condition of dark discoloration on my tongue that is known as "hyper pigmentation" since my mid-twenties. Due to no known treatments, this condition plagued me for almost 30 years. I spent more than 20 years embarrassed to speak to people face to face fearing the discoloration would be noticed by others. This affected my self-esteem and confidence to socially interact with people. Fast forward to the age of 55, I was very fortunate to come across a post by a former patient of DR. Shelton who had the very same condition as mine with before and after photos showing the tremendous improvements after being treated by Dr. Shelton. I immediately contacted Dr. Shelton and inquired if he knew of any dermatologists in my home state and city that performed the same treatment with similar success. Dr. Shelton responded back to me within 24 hours of my initial e-mail. Unfortunately, he did not know of any dermatologists in my city who performed the same treatment as he does. Despite his response, I didn't hesitate to offer to fly to NY to be treated by him. DR. Shelton's nurse immediately contacted me to schedule my initial consultation. Two weeks later, I flew to NY and was graciously welcomed by Dr. Shelton and his friendly staff. One hour post my consultation, Dr. Shelton performed my first treatment. The procedure lasted no more than 30 minutes and I was able to fly back home that evening. Two weeks later, the dark pigmentation had cleared more than 90%. The results are nothing short of being considered miraculous. Family and friends have noticed the tremendous improvement to my tongue, my confidence, and my self-esteem. I went to Dr. Shelton for Mohs surgery on my chest and calf. Previously, I was very discouraged as I had been told by the chief of Mohs surgery at a leading New York City hospital that these areas would be problematic, and that I would probably have a raised, unattractive scar on my chest and that my leg would require stitching by a plastic surgeon. After reading reviews of Dr. Shelton, I went for a consultation and was very encouraged by his positive take on the areas that required surgery. He also assured me that, were I to develop a raised scar on my chest, there were numerous treatments he could do to make to the scar less noticeable. As it turns out, the scar on my chest from Dr. Shelton's artistic surgery is so fine, that it almost requires a magnifying glass to see it! And the Mohs surgery on my leg was easily performed and did not require a plastic surgeon to stitch it up. Dr. Shelton is not only a magnificent surgeon, he is a kind, humane and warm person. He treats you with enormous respect and you know that he giving his all to you as a patient. It's been an unusually positive experience having Dr. Shelton as my surgeon. I've been a patient of Dr. Shelton for approximately 6 years and am very happy with his services. He's an excellent doctor and I've always been very pleased with the results. Over the years, Dr. Shelton has used lasers to remove dark spots on my face, Radiesse filler on my hands to plump out the wrinkles ("before and after" photos of my hands are actually on his website), and I also see him for Botox treatments on my forehead and the "crow feet" area of my eyes. In addition to great results, what also impresses me so much is that the results look natural. I never ended up with that fake "overdone" look. What is equally important to me is his demeanor. Ron I knew you were great surgeon and I know your reputation but there's no comparison to being in the chair and having you work on me effortlessly painlessly expertly and beautifully and I appreciate and thank you for all that you did and to reassure me with your also excellent staff. Wow. I was nervous before going to Dr. Ron Shelton because I had a melanoma in the middle of my cheek and had been told that I didn't need Mohs. But THANK GOODNESS I went to him! Dr. Shelton was incredibly kind and patient and explained about Mohs and really, really gave me a realistic idea of what to expect. Even the pre-procedure sheets they give out at the office are good! Like bring a sweater, bring snacks, the procedure might take a while. Don't make any other appointments that day... All of these little pieces of advice made me feel more confident the day of the procedure. Then the day of the procedure was just what I expected. The entire staff was kind, patient and professional. My appointment, consultation & procedure were all accomplished in 3 days by their caring, concerned and professional staff. After my procedure, Dr. Brown, a plastic surgeon who is on staff, closed my wound quickly and perfectly. Two days later, I styled my hair and the wound (with sutures still in) was not noticeable. Having just turned 83 I've been to a lot of doctors in my time. Dr. Shelton is the gold standard, as is his warm professional staff. Before I saw him for MOHS surgery on my nose, I had had a disappointing experience several months prior with another MOHS surgeon for an area on my cheek. Dr. Shelton treated the veins with a laser and after a few visits the veins are 100% gone. Dr. Shelton was conservative and careful in his treatment of the veins as they were quite close to my eye.
