A modest diner, very near to the Capitol building, unfussy, a true throwback. The vibe is friendly. Staff works hard to get the orders out swiftly yet remain easy-going. There are several booths; a large picnic-like table in the center; and stools at a counter for seating. The food is respectable: the menu is traditional comfort fare, nothing exotic, only breakfast and lunch, not open for dinner. The prices are reasonable. My platter of scrambled eggs, home fries, generous amount of bacon and white bread toast was decent. Got a fruit plate; fresh. But I gotta say, the coffee is not to my liking, awfully strong. Xing-Xing, a large black cat and fixture, is doted on by many. Pete's is cherished and clearly supported by regulars. If you were to become one, everyone would know your name, so, yeah, it's a "Cheers" diner, if you will. Nothing wrong with that.

Pete's Diner has a certain worn-in appearance, doors open(50 degree day in early April)a super casual atmosphere.cats(see photo)wandering about. the food and standards didn't live up to expectations. Being served what tasted like day-old chili, topped with sour cream and accompanied by three saltines wrapped in plastic, was disappointing. There's a difference between unpretentious and neglected, and unfortunately this crossed that line. DC health department would have a field day here.

One of my favorite breakfast spots in Capitol Hill. If you're lucky you'll see Pete walk by. Foods good and reasonable + they have outdoor seating.

We've been coming here for years, and it is a solid classic diner. Tasty breakfast options, generally effective service, nice outdoor seating, and friendly well-fed resident black cat ShiShi (sp?) who is the beloved local celebrity. Prices are decent considering you're practically kitty-corner from the Library of Congress and just a block from the Capitol. The fruit plate provides an impressively quality selection of fresh hand-cut fruit for a reasonable $4. Filling food to power your day.

4/11/24 Small diner, nothing fancy. Order, eat, and leave. Many people seem to be regulars. Eggs Bacon Ham Hash Toast Pancakes Coffee and Tea. It's just down the block from our hotel.

I visited Pete's Diner with a colleague recently who introduced me to the veggie combo - it's not on the menu but it's delicious! He told me it changes daily or weekly and you never know what you're going to get but it's always good - and he was right! It was a hearty portion and super flavorful. I'm not vegetarian or even a big veggie lover but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked everything that came with my combo, especially the eggplant.

Went to breakfast here with the family. We were waved in by an older gentleman who didn't even work there, telling us how good the food was. Service was professional and quick, the staff being exceptionally kind and social. The food was simple, but still tasted very good! I myself ordered some pancakes, which were notably very good. The only complaint I have was the outdoor seating, the tables being a bit wobbly and made of metal (in the sun). Over all, the environment was great, the staff kind, and the service quick.

This is a typical old style diner, just like back in the day. It's a small place with tables and counter service. There is a person working a large grill cooking up eggs bacon and other breakfast items. The rest of the kitchen is off to the side hidden behind a curtain. They have a large selection of lunch time food, it's a dinner they have just about everything. My wife got one of the specials, grilled cheese and chicken noodle soup. I just had the soup. I am pretty sure it was homemade. Lots and lots of veggies, noodles, and chunks of real chicken. The place was packed but the service was very good. If your up near the Hill give Pete's a try, you will be glad you did.

Our service was great and the server was great. Literally not one bite of any item we ate was nothing less than 5 stars. The buffalo cauliflower and sweet potato house rolls were amazing appetizers. My double cheeseburger and fries was one of the best burgers I have had in a long time. The meat was so rich in flavor. The fries were a perfect mix of outside crispiness and soft inside. My girlfriend got the pot roast rendang and the salted caramel ice cream. Both were so good. This is spot was amazing and I highly recommend this location and plan to stop here anytime I'm in the area visiting.

There is usually a line, but with seating inside, outside and at the bar, it is usually not a long wait. I opt to the sit at the bar since I was participating in a conference and needed a quick turnaround. Server acknowledged me right away as he was preparing drinks for another patron. I was extremely impressed with the menu offering which had traditional breakfast items mixed with fresh veggies, and spices from around the world. I ordered the Brussel sprouts with fried egg whites. It was delicious and extremely filling. I savored each and every bite. The only thing I would have preferred would have been more coffee offerings. The food here is truly king and I can work with that!

The potatoes were drenched in oil and overloaded with salt to the point they were inedible. The salmon was also extremely greasy and overly salty. The only item I somewhat enjoyed was the French toast, although it was slightly cold. This is not my usual Ted's Bulletin location, and based on this experience, I won't be returning. I spent good money on breakfast and ended up throwing most of it away because the potatoes and salmon were simply too salty to eat. Very disappointing overall.

I can't decide between 5 stars which my gut tells me OR 4 stars because the interior is so drab and dreary. Ultimately, I decided to give it 5 stars because the food was so good and the service was so lovely! So there - that is my decision! We returned to Mr. Henry's after a long hiatus and we found the food still among the best comfort food in the city. My spouse's blue cheese hamburger was juicy and meaty. The potato chips were crispy and not greasy (and tasted like real potatoes). The cole slaw was tart, a little sweet and a little tangy - just like it should be. A very good meal. For me, I had the pulled pork. OMG the pork was so good. Very moist, real meat and it had a luxurious barbecue sauce that neither overwhelmed the meat nor underwhelmed the sandwich! And the bun was toasted to perfection and held together perfectly under the moisture of all that delicious pulled pork. Really really good! One thing that struck both of us was how VERY good the service was! Naveeta was so friendly, so professional and so talkative (without ever interrupting us). She really added a great casual yet welcomed atmosphere to Mr. Henry's. She was able to help us navigate the menu. If our glasses got close to empty, she was right there for a refill! She is the consummate waitress to be sure! The other waiter (who did not wait on us) also seemed friendly and professional. How did they find such good people to work there??? The ambiance of the dining room leaves a little to improve on. It's not just old, it's run down. That doesn't stop me from loving the place and it will NOT stop me from coming back of course. But, it is, to be honest, not a good looking or modern dining room. It is comfortable though and that is consistent with the type of food you get here. It is not fine dining BUT the food is all SO DAMN GOOD that you really don't care! Is it a touch dirty looking? Maybe. But, again, I can overlook that if the food knocks my socks off (which it did). And when the service is great, I have to give this place its due. I guess that is the real reason Mr. Henry's has been around so long. Delivering great comfort food in a friendly and efficient way with a big smile on their faces! I highly recommend Mr. Henry's for a wonderful casual meal of comfort food in a great atmosphere!

My only note for improvement would be the timing of when the food is brought out to the table. Some people like to eat certain food items together and the pace was lagging in-between the food items dropped off to the table. Another area for improvement was the frequency in which the waiter checked our table, especially since we had bottomless mimosas. I feel we may not have been able to maximize on our mimosas due to the slow check-backs. Other that the noted areas that could use some improvement, the food was very good and we enjoyed our time together immensely!

Tables are limited, so make sure to have a reservation. On the topic of food, I didn't see much on the menu I could eat, so just opted for a cocktail (ate at home). It was such a great drink for the beautiful sunny day it was. Our server was Deja and she was wonderful. She was prompt and we saw her often, which was appreciated. The check is done via QR code which was very easy. We had a slight issue with our check not pulling up, but she quickly resolved. Again, the food doesn't really suit my preferences (heavy meat options), but I would definitely pop back for a drink.
