Pete's Dueling Piano Bar was an unexpected (and entertaining) stop for us. We actually ran into Hans Kim and ended up walking over with him -- we genuinely had no idea where we were going and had never even heard of this place before. The scene was very different from our usual spots and definitely felt like a throwback to our younger days: lots of young people, lots of alcohol, and high energy. It wasn't the cleanest -- there were empty cups and napkins scattered around -- which felt more like a lack of courtesy from some patrons than the staff, but it's worth noting. That said, the bartenders were friendly, service was quick, and there was plenty of seating. We were able to grab drinks easily and settle in to enjoy the show. The dueling piano performers were a blast and play songs based on requests -- the bigger the tip, the better your chances, which adds to the fun. There were multiple birthday and engagement celebrations happening on stage, and the crowd energy was contagious. The service was mostly ok, but the noise was a bit much. The ambiance feels forced, low brow, low class, tacky, gaudy, sleazy, and otherwise lacking. And there'a a smell. April 4th 2026 between 7:15pm and 7:45pm: This manager, -in retaliation for an earlier failed intimidation attempt- playfully warned his subordinate with the reddish hair in the pictures that I was approaching, and then pushed his 'friend' into my path as I was walking pass the establishment. He openly admitted to everyone around including his work crew that he deliberately shoved another human being into me, and his excuse was that the girl is his friend. I told him that I'm NOT his friend, and not to play with me like that. He said he'll do whatever he wants to do to pedestrians, because he's the manager of the establishment. He then got physical and tried to push me, and when he realized he lacked the proper strength, he threatened to call the police on me. This all happened on the sidewalk from the entrance as I was walking by. I've been a patron of the esatblishmnet in the past, and I've never caused any trouble, or received any. So I was very much taken aback by the sudden aggression, and disrespect. All of his staff; the girl with the red highlights in the pictures, and the man with the long dark hair holding the selfie phone next to Fat Black, they all thought this was so funny. They all supported him and his actions, and actively assisted in his harassment, on the clock, on the job, as representatives of Pete's Dueling Piano Bar. Maybe Pete's Dueling Piano Bar is only hospitable and friendly when you're paying them to be. Fat Black, The Manager of Pete's Dueling Piano Bar started a fight with a pedestrian, restarted it after it ended unfavorably for him, escalated it further, attempted to get physical with with a octagon beast, who's training is light years out of his league, and then threatened to call the police. I've made several attempts to contact the owner, to no avail. It's almost as if the owners of Pete's Dueling Piano Bar doesn't want to know what their staff is up to. I'll never spend another dime in this establishment, and I suggest that you stay away from this place as well. They're only nice when they want something from you, after that, they turn into violent abusive hooligans. And the owner seems to want it that way, or at the very least is willfully ignorant. read more

I fell in love with Austin while at Pete's many years ago. A few nights ago I finally revisited this great spot. The crowd and entertainers are so much fun! There's never anyone in a bad mood here. All you see are smiles. The cocktails are actually pretty solid. Our cocktail waitress was very on top of things and super helpful and nice. The location is right on "Dirty 6th" which is not my favorite area but it still has a lot to offer. I visit the area every once in a while and do still enjoy it. If you are looking for a visit this area and don't want chaos, I do recommend going early in the evening on a week day vs. the late night on the weekend. read more

You can definitely visit 6th Street twice in a week...I'm living proof. A friend from suburban Austin wanted some Downtown fun, so we headed to Pete's Dueling Piano Bar. I expected instrumental piano music, but it turned out to be a loud, interactive sing-along with energetic pianist/guitarist who take requests, roast the crowd, and play everything from hard rock to throwback hits. The place was not crowded as normal but they did Keep Austin Weird theme going, and everyone from locals to tourists joined in singing and laughing. What fun this place was on a Tuesday night. In fact it was the happening spot and after 11pm, more people arrived. There was a convention in town so lots of matching shirts and lanyards. I have never been treated so poorly at a business before. I'm super disappointed. It was my first time going out to a bar tonight, and I was excited! This bar has such a cool space! Super cute neon signs, extremely talented musicians, and just a fun vibe. So I was sad to leave with a bad taste in my mouth. I went to leave a song request on the piano expecting a QR code or a card pay option- and didn't see anything so I panicked a lil and slid my request on the piano. (I'm a full time artist so I felt really cringe and awkward not leaving a tip.) Unfortunately this musician didn't react well. He replied into the microphone in front of a packed bar,"this one goes on the floor where unpaid requests belong." I honestly felt humiliated, there's no reason to be such a bully. I am all for boundaries- and could probably list 100 ways that could have been said with kindness. It also didn't need to be addressed if he'd rather not say anything at all. Every other person who helped me at Pete's was excellent, kind, and promoted a fun environment! Something really needs to be done about this grown man's behavior. It's simply unacceptable. Super fun bar! More of an older crowd so the atmosphere was less... sloppy? than some other bars on 6th. The pianists were super talented and were playing a ton of great songs. It's not even somewhat related to your classic piano bar atmosphere, of course. It's a dueling piano bar, so it is the opposite of classy, serving up very high energy, party atmosphere where very heavy drinking is the norm (take an Uber), including jell-o shots and table-sized goblets of booze with multiple straws. There were three engagement parties present the night we were there. Definitely a party atmosphere. Be warned. It was by far the loudest music, my far, I've heard in any bar... quite a bit louder than an AC/DC or Tool concert. Hard to believe in a small bar. But that was our experience. It started loud, and every set got louder. Where to sit? I recommend the balcony. Elsewhere, the floor was so crowded, and the tables were so very close together, that the waitresses could not get from one table to another without squeezing between seated patrons or asking people to scoot their chairs over. You may even have to stand to give someone at another table access to the restroom. The men's room was a small, trough-style urinal with no dividers. (I've seen better restrooms in frat houses.) If you reserve a table, you have to pay in advance for the reservation. That price is basically a per-person cover charge. It technically comes get a free drink, but none of the drinks on the menu qualify. Your free drink has to be valued at below $15, and the menu prices start at $15. So, basically, you get a beer. What do they have on draft? Nothing. How many half-decent beers do they have in a bottle? Almost no options there, either. Until they sell out, they have Stella Artois in a bottle and one brand of IPA in a can. The rest was cheap, gas station beer. That said, if you like getting drunk on $15 punch and jell-o shots, and you don't mind being crammed into a small bar like sardines, having your ear drums pounded, and peeing in a trough, then you'll be able to enjoy what this bar actually does have to offer -- very talented musicians, a feeling of celebration, singing along to your favorite tunes at the top of your lungs, and not having a care in the world :-D read more

I'm sure this is one of the most touristy things you can do during your visit to Austin, but who doesn't enjoy a dueling piano bar experience?! I met a group of girlfriends out on a Friday night and we headed to Pete's after dinner... it was very fun! As others have said, bring cash if you are wanting to do song requests... Unfortunately, even with our generous cash request, the piano guys didn't even play our song! Even so, they were all very talented. I was impressed with their depth of song knowledge, instruments used, and so much more. The vibe here was super fun... A mix of bachelor / bachelorette parties, girls trips, and dates. A lot of folks went on stage for a song or two and with the drinks flowing, it's definitely entertaining for all in attendance! Have been to multiple Dueling Piano Bar before. Asked door man if we could pay cover and come back. He has an attitude. My husband's friend is a Vet. He asked if there was a military discount. Doorman all of sudden told my husband we aren't allowed to come in. The security guard was surprised and he was like...let me go find out what is going on. Very fun atmosphere. The piano players were funny and energetic. When the players were on break, other staff went on and they were great too! The only thing I want to point out is that there were a lot of $80 and $100 requests when we were there and they kind of took over the bar for the most part. So if you have a particular song you want played and you're not willing to shell out that kind of dough, you may be disappointed. We really didn't care so we were fine. Love everything about Pete's - the talented musicians (I'm Allen Fisher's #1 fan girl), the music, vibes, VIP service, crazy drinks, and overall just a feel good place! I've taken so many friends and family and they all love it, even the shy ones. I've only ever sat VIP (so I can be next to Allen lol) and it's the way to go. I love the marquee sign for special events; I got it for my FIL and he was ecstatic when it came out for him. The only downside is it's small so it gets packed (so do VIP!) So cool!! We came on a Friday night, and there was a short line to get in. Cover was $15 per person. There was a Check-in Offer the night we went, so my cover was only $3 which was incredible. Anyway, the whole space was packed, but for good reason. I counted 4 musicians that rotated onstage between the pianos, a drum set, one guy brought out a fiddle, and some other instruments. They played lots of hits, and it looked like the songs came from requests from the audience. I was so impressed that between the musicians, someone knew all of the words to the requested song.
