Excellent in every way! We received a friendly hello at the door and were shown to our (Yelp) reservation table. The restaurant is decorated really nice and it was dark yet light enough to read the menu. Lots of ambiance here. I ordered the greek salad as an appetizer and the Ouzi with chicken for my meal. Both were EXCELLENT! My waitress, Paolo (sp?) was such a nice person and a terrific server. She knew when I needed a refill on my iced tea and really treated me like a member of the family. The Ouzi was an OMG YUM! It was pounded spiced chicken breast over rice with veggies. The portion was very large with two chicken breasts and lots of rice. This is the first time where I have been disagreed significantly from the general yelp reviewers. After being stuck in rush hour traffic, I decided to park and go out to eat instead. Beautiful evening so why not. I should have trusted my intuition when I didn't smell any great aroma when I entered the restaurant. Service was fine but the food was unattractive and unappetizing. I ordered the veggie platter, and the babaganouj and humus were so similar you could not tell one was made from eggplant and the other from chickpeas. The rice was undercooked and crunchy. The falafels were meh and the dolmas were too hot and chewy. Why didn't I send it back? I was hungry and the room was pretty crowded especially for a Tuesday night so I kept hoping it would get better. Oh I chose salad instead of soup and the cucumber was bitter such that I spit it out in my napkin. Why 2 star instead of 1? I have eaten at Petra about half a dozen times in the last two years and it is one of my favorite Mediterranean places in Seattle. They have good vegetarian and chicken options. In appetizers I've tried several dishes including hummus, baba ghanouje, fries, falafel, zahra, mezza tray, and the house lentil soup. All are good, but the fries and zahra are outstanding. In mains, I've tried the Shish Tawook (lemon chicken), petra spice chicken, veggie royale and chicken shawarma. I've enjoyed all of them. Their flavored rice and unique spice mix makes their dishes delicious. The aromatic, fresh flavors are quite incredible. I guess the only thing I miss here is a yoghurt-based drink option like ayran. This is my favorite Mediterranean in Seattle. They have the best Baba ghanoush (pro tip: get a side order (or two!)--plenty of dip for less than half the price). The Petra Royale is my favorite entree, followed by the garlic lemon chicken. I don't think the Ouzi is worth it (if you're going to pay Petra's prices, go for the Royale instead). Went here on NewYears eve this year and had a great dinner. The staff were attentive though it was a busy night and super on point with my allergy to butter and dairy. She made sure that all the dishes didn't have any taziki on it and that the garlic cause was dairy free also. I ordered a lamb shawarma and some beef kababs, serving of hummus and pita and some salad between a party of 4. The portion size is just enough. The hummus was on point!!! Loved it. The prices are a little on the high side so it's good for a dinner date or once in a while type of dinner. If you only eat halal, be careful with the menu. Not all meat is halal. There are certain dishes that are halal only. Loved the ambiance of this place too. Loved seeing them display parts of Jordan's history and pictures of Petra on the walls. So so good! Was in town for a conference and did a visit to the space needle. This little gem was within decent walking distance of the needle which was exactly what I was looking for. My colleagues and I each enjoyed our meal and literally couldn't stop eating even though we were all full. I ordered the appetizer platter and everything was delicious and authentically Mediterranean. My colleagues each ordered the shawarma. The pita bread tasted fresh, was so soft and warm, and like it was recently baked from scratch. I took away a star for service that was a little slow (in a nearly empty restaurant) and my colleague asked for salad in lieu of rice but ended up with rice. This is a warm and cozy restaurant located in a less happening part of Belltown. Lots of art and decorations on the walls add a nice cultural touch to the interior. Food is delicious and somewhat reasonably priced for Seattle (average dinner entree is like $20). For appetizer, the Petra Calamari is a tasty option to get started. It's fried to a nice crisp, and has a nice garlic sauce that's garnished with a light herbal seasoning to give it a wholesome flavor. I recommend this. Also, for appetizer, had the Mezza Tray, which is mix of Baba Ghanouje, labneh, olives, falafel, and dolmathes. So a little this and a little that to give you a small tour, so to speak, of Mediterranean food. This is basically a sample platter of bite-sized and dipping tidbits to share with a group. Also recommend. The Ouzi (not to be confused with the Uzi submachine gun) is a safe, can't-go-wrong dinner plate. It's ground beef mixed with rice, peas, and carrots and topped with your choice of meat (lamb for me). The portions are generous, and it tastes great for such a simple dish. The food here was very good. The ambience is great, too. The service was fast and staff friendly. Mezza Tray: great mix of hummus and dips. A ton of pita. The only thing was the baba ganoush was a bit salty. Great for sharing! Gyro Shawarma: This was delicious, my bf loved it. It was juicy and came with a good mix of rice and salad. Mediterranean Salmon: This was a tad dry, but still good. The seasoning was great. Ouzi: This was delicious and new. I've never had this before, so I really enjoyed it. Only thing was a tad salty, but I also prefer lightly salted food, so it might be a perfect amount of salt for other people. Like my boyfriend. House Soup: All our entrees came with soup or salad and we opted for soup. It was okay, nothing spectacular and not very flavorful. The only thing was the amount of food we received. It was SO MUCH FOOD. Which is a GREAT thing in most cases, but we barely made it halfway into our dishes b/c of the mezza tray. Plus, you get soup with your entrees, so we were stuffed and packed it to go. It'd be nice if they charged a little less and served a little less, too. We regretted getting the tray or not sharing dishes after the meal. It's hard to pack away the dips to reheat, so that went to waste. Most of the meats didn't reheat well. After exploring Seattle Center and leaving the chilly air of the Space Needle, we decided to try Petra because of the vegetarian reviews. Arrived around 12:30 and there was sit open tables available. The atmosphere is definitely a little more upscale, this would be a great date night spot. We ordered the falafel and Petra fries appetizers and a Scuttlebutt Porter. Glad that's all we ordered because it was definitely enough for two. The falafel appetizer is like a deconstructed falafel sandwich: falafel on top of all the fixings with pita quarters in the side. The Petra fries have sriracha ketchup, herbs, and feta. The pita bread is generic and nothing special. The falafels actually have great flavor. Maybe just a smidge well-done as it was a crispy fritter to cut. But the flavor was there. The fries are great. Shoestring fries with deliciousness on top. The beer was nothing special, couldn't pick it out of a lineup of porters. The service was fast and friendly. The noise level was a bit loud for the ambience but not too bothersome. Overall, enjoyed ourselves and glad we stopped in. Great spot for vegetarians as there is a vegetarian section on the menu, so there are vegetarian combos and platters. The service was efficient and nice, also understanding as I asked questions about the menu. So I appreciate the hospitality. I ordered the falafel appetizer which was somewhat of a salad but not really. A pseudo salad if you will. The pita bread came out warm, snuggled in a basket. I became envious as I was still cold from the weather. However the pita is nothing to write home about (despite me writing about it here on Yelp). Your average store bought variety. The falafel was a bit too dry for my liking. Although cooked well, the flavor was subtle and the texture made the tahini a necessity. when i tell you guys that this food smacked, it SMACKED!! i'm syrian and always hesitant to go anywhere middle eastern/mediterranean because i get disappointed 99% of the time, but this tasted almost identical to my grandma's cooking. -most notable to me was the lentil soup, because i don't normally like soup at all but thought it might be worth a shot... the ultimate comfort food, and perfectly seasoned. i absolutely recommend adding just a little bit of lemon juice for some more dimension to the flavor. -we devoured the dolmas/yalanji in the blink of an eye-- they were not too firm, not too squishy, and once again, seasoned beautifully. only criticism is that i wanted more! -mosabaha was also amazing, and the huge servings mean that i now have leftovers to snack on for the next week. -the tabouli was fantastic, the only thing i thought it could use was a little more olive oil and lemon juice, but that's honestly just preference. i will absolutely be coming back here everytime i'm homesick, and will drag my family along when they come visit, especially with the music and decor of back home. now that i've finished this review, i can happily go into my little food coma read more
