With all the glowing reviews for this place, I had this place bookmarked forever. Unfortunately, the hype and food did not live up to expectations. Service was also decent but not great. We got a bunch of appetizers and shared them across our party, be it Zahra (cauliflower), Falafel, Petra Fries, etc. and all of it was just okay. We got the baklava as well and that was again not up to the mark. Would I come back to this place, not possible given how many better meditteranean places are there in the city. Would I recommend this place to a friend, unfortunately no. Maybe this is a 2.5 star place in my book but I have to round down as I cannot round up. read more

I had a friend visiting Seattle and we decided to go here on a Saturday night for dinner because of the fantastic reviews. I called to make a reservation and was told to just show up and reservation is not required. I asked again if we are OK with no reservation on a Sat night and he confirmed. We walked in, waited for some 7 mins until someone came and asked us whether we have a reservation. I said no and explained the reason. He left without saying anything. A few minutes later someone else came and asked the same question. He told us to wait and left. My friend and I were enjoying our conversation and we were fine waiting, though there is no real waiting area there. You'd be blocking the entrance. A few long minutes later, a third person came and asked us whether we have a reservation and I said no with a big smile. He turned around, looked at an open table and led us there. Our server showed up, not introducing himself, no smile, and no nothing. He looked at us such that he was ready to take our order. When I said can we get the menu, he almost huffed and puffed and threw the menus on our table. I don't want to continue writing about our poor experience here because you get the idea. I was super excited to try this place but bummed out by 90% of the food in the bag. The Chicken shawarma tasted off, the falafel was super dense and the calamari was soggy and doused in a really gross ketchup. I will say the hummus entree was ok and so was the rice. Our experience here was absolutely horrible. Worst customer service ever! Don't even make the mistake by going here. Took 50 minutes for our entree to even come out, it was just two of us. And after reading other reviews below, and noticing others are saying similar things, I must agree... the hummus is just filled with old garlic. Your breathe will stink for 2 days. Absolutely not what you might think is "middle eastern" food. Just stay away from this restaurant. Loved the veggie combo plate. Spouse got veggie kabobs. We shared the two dishes. Often, when one orders veggie kabobs, they are hard in the middle and not well cooked. I get lunch take out here from time to time because my office is a block away. Petra fries are EVERYTHING - you must get them. You can get a wrap & Petra fries on the lunch menu for like $11 or something. The Petra fries I got today were the best yet. My go-to is generally the gyro wrap, which is really good. One time I strayed and got the falafel wrap instead and I regretted it. It was so dry that I couldn't finish it. Same price as the gyro, but def not worth it, especially since half of it went in the trash. I can't speak to anything else, but if you have a craving for Greek food, I highly recommend the gyro with Petra fries. If you call your order in, it's ready in about 10 mins. read more

Extremely good. I love their ambience l. The smell of Petra invites me whenever I go home. Must try are fries,hummus,dolmathes and Mosabaha. The pita bread is so soft and fresh. The food I got here was the lamb shwarma, Petra spicy chicken plate, and the baba ganoosh appetizer. Ever dish was incredibly delicious and worth every penny. The portion sizes were decent and the ingredients tasted fresh and very authentic. This is the kind of restaurant that doesn't cheap out on quality of ingredients. What a fantastic little bistro! As with other Mediterranean places, Petra's distinction of hummus is what stood out the most. So good and creamy! I've ordered the Spice chicken and the garlic lemon chicken and both were equally good. Great saffron rice with garlic sauce. Portions are on the smaller side, but no complains since they are really really good. My friend had the salmon and that too was incredible. They have belly dancers on some nights, I believe Friday or Saturday. I recommend making reservations as this is a small place and fils up quick. The lentil soup was absolutely delicious as well. Great food and good service. Petra has 4 halal options which is why we decided to give it a try! We ordered the veggie meza platter for our appetizer which was comprised of hummus, baba ganoush, grape leaves, falafel and rice. All were very delicious. My favorite was the baba ganoush. I felt the grape leaves were a bit over cooked and the falafel a bit dense. But overall great appetizer. For my entree I ordered the beef shish kabob. It came with a salad which had raw white onions which I picked around. The entree itself was great, only the beef was not on a kabob rather just pieces on the plate with a veggies kabob. The flavors were great and the portion was large. I had lots of leftovers. Service was great but we got a new waiter mid way they our meal without an explanation of why (the other waiter was still working the tables around us) Great food and ambience. A cumin lentil theme. Not too salty and spiced in a balanced way. The texture is creamy with pellets of dry lentil that spread across your tongue. Falafel Plate: Ok. Pleasantly surprised. I've had really good Middle Eastern food in Michigan so I was a bit hesitant to try this place when my husband suggested it. The place is pretty spacious and the decor was very nice. We ordered the Petra Gyro Salad- they give you a lot of meat and the salad was very tasty. This is a real salad. I hate when you go to an American restaurant and you order an salad for more than $10 and its sad. This filled me for a long day of walking around Seattle. The meat was so tender and full of flavor. Beef Kabob - My husband got this with a side of lentil soup. OMG the soup was so delicious. One of the best soups I have ever had. So many layers of flavors and the soup had a lot of lentil and rice in it. The rice was very good and was mixed with the garlic sauce. Overall, it was a great experience. I haven't had great Middle Eastern food since moving back from Michigan and this totally hit the spot for me. On a recent stopover in Seattle (sans car), we were looking for a place to have lunch, off the beaten path, within walking distance of our hotel, and away from the tourist haunts around Pike Place and the Space Needle. You did not disappoint when your reviews led us to go to Petra Mediterranean Bistro. There were only a couple of other patrons when we arrived, but shortly thereafter, the place filled up. And judging by the conversations around us (not eavesdropping, but sometimes you just can't help overhearing!) most were locals - yeah!! Our kind of place! A must try: Gyro Shawarma! O.M.G. The. Most. Tender. Gyro. Meat. Ever! And so flavorful!! And a good-sized portion. Tzatziki was delicious, too, perfectly balanced. Also very yummy: Garlic Lemon Chicken (Shish Tawook); not too lemony, not to garlicky, but both flavors blended with other spices to produce a tasty meal. Both served on a bed of rice with grilled veggies. Our server was attentive, but allowed us to enjoy our drinks a bit before ordering, then let us enjoy the food, checking back to make sure all was OK. Petra is well appointed - love the camel head sconces - with a Mediterranean flair. Even with the tables fairly close together in this small space, we didn't feel like our space was infringed upon by the folks at the next table. Moral of the story: in an unfamiliar area? Wow...what a memorable eating experience at this quaint, little restaurant. Our meals were so scrumptously spice-infused that I felt like we were eating in Jordan. I had the amazing Ouzi (Jordanian) with grilled chicken breast. The ground beef mixed with peas and carrot and rice perfectly seasoned and spiced but not spicy. It was topped with the grilled chicken breast sprinkled with toasted almonds and pine nuts. They also drizzled it with their tzatziki sauce. I could seriously eat this for dinner every night but it's not cheap. And seriously, I can't cook THAT well. However, it is worth every penny when you're in the mood for mouth watering Mediterranean food. The plain hummus is a must! The best in Seattle, hands down. Smooth, fresh and mild. The Ouzi with chicken or the Kafta are my favorite. If you have a group of 4-6 people they have a great sampler platter of most of their appetizers which is great to share. I've never been so blown away! And not because I was hungry. Let me start from the beginning. I'm a class A food snob. I don't love food. Good food is divine to me. Not much impresses me after Italy so good Mediterranean is hard for me to hunt down. With that being said, literally EVERYTHING on this menu looked good from the start. Different types of hummus, good looking ingredients, and an amazing smell just walking down the hallway. I had a hunch it would be good. And boy, was I right. I originally wanted some fancy hummus, but thought it might not be enough. The salmon Mediterranean entree ended up being more than enough. Fresh cumin soup included lentils and peas. Delicious, mouth watering spices, and GARLIC! Not artificial garlic powder or anything like that but whole cloves. Not a huge fan of Mediterranean restaurants as they usually make my stomach upset but not only was the food fantastic here but also no tummy upsets! We ordered two entrees plus this gigantic appetizer plate with mixed app's on it. Not sure which was yummier, the entrees or the apps, it was all delicious! Despite that the restaurant was packed on a Sat night around 6:30pm, they found us a table within a short time frame. No reservations needed! Then our waiter was fantastic! I've had this restaurant bookmarked for some time now and finally had the chance to try it out today and all i have to say is YUM!!! My sister ordered the veggie shwarma which was bursting with flavor and my mom and i shared the garlic lemon chicken entree. Yes as others have mentioned, the chicken was a tad bit dry, but seriously, what do you expect - its grilled, but i promise you it was tender and still SO delicious. Don't be afraid to order it!! Also our server was so nice, soup or salad is complimentary with an entree and he brought out three lentil soups for us. Again, my mom and i were sharing one dish, so i was not expecting an extra bowl. My sister loved the soup so much that we ended up buying some to take home and make. Besides that, the hummus was the best i've ever had accompanied with the warmest and softest pita bread. So good my mom ended up asking for more. The Greek salad was seriously the truth too! Ambiance was good Food was on the pricier side, especially for alternative Mediterranean-flavored options nearby. I eat calamari all the time and I didn't like this...it didn't taste good to me. I'll say it must have been my taste buds were off because I'd hate to think it was frozen calamari. The falafel was o.k. A little heavy and not as crispy as I like it. The shawarma was moist, delicious with plenty of meat and perfectly seasoned. I wish I had just gotten that. Very nice server. I was excited to try out this place after seeing such high ratings on yelp and it was highly recommended by friends but I was a little disappointed maybe because it was so hyped up. Food was great but very salty and spice filled. I got the gyro shawarma with lentil soup and pita and I really liked the gyro shawarma. The dish was a good portion of meat with rice and veggies. The meat was delicious, melt in your mouth and tender. The pita was above average and fluffy but you can't go wrong with pita. The soup was too salty for my taste and I can really tolerate really salty dishes. Sidenote: I drank a lot of water after the meal. Service was disappointing. The food came out really fast but we were also really rushed the entire meal. There was one party waiting for seating but I didn't understand why we were rushed.
