This company delivers oil when you don't need it. On my last delivery they said I have a 1/4 of tank, I had much more. They delivered 61 gallons of oil to a 275 gallon tank. They also don't want to tell you they're delivering, they don't want you canceling your delivery. I refuse to use this company EVER! Save yourself from a tremendous headache, go elsewhere! read more

I have had services through petro for 2 years. Always have been nice but do not care for loyalty no matter how many discounts they offer. Just charged me over $4.70 per gallon on my last fill up, their reasoning was they are a full service company. I can call an oil company today for COD and get it for almost $1 less. Thats insane to me. Not to mention the conveniently "forgot" to leave my receipt upon delivery. The only discounts they were willing to give me for that were if I decided to going into a plan with them. Their techs also do not use a vaccume when cleaning my furnace, not sure how they are getting everything out to actually clean it. I would not recommend going into any plan with them for more then 1 year, get the first time users discount and then run.​ read more

Another excellent experience with Petro. I had work done at my home a few months ago (reference my previous review) and was so pleased with the installation that I didn't hesitate to contact Petro again when I needed to replace a furnace and a water heater at a second residence. The work was completed within three days of meeting with the salesman; could have been done even sooner but I had other commitments) and once again, everyone involved was extremely professional and wonderful to work with. The team that came to do the installations was on time, worked efficiently within a small area and kept me posted on their progress throughout the morning. Before they left, they made sure everything was working properly, answered any questions I had and explained how to adjust the water heater if necessary. We were new customers (we left another company after 28 years for poor service) and purchased a new furnace and a new air conditioning unit end of summer/fall of 2023. We signed on to auto delivery. On Jan. 25, 2024 we woke up to a freezing cold house and discovered we were out of oil. REALLY! ??? We have lived in this house for 28 years and have NEVER run out of oil! For some reason they said the oil delivery was cancelled but didn't know why. They will send a truck out but could not tell us when it would arrive but they could bring us out a couple of gallons on them until it gets here. (No way...I have a large house) After calling the executive we had been working with during installation he finally got a truck to respond. They had to put 301.7 gallons of oil in my tank. I had asked them to deliver oil every 2-3 weeks in the winter but they didn't listen and I received a whopping $1,143.14 bill to pay. (The prior delivery was 174.4 gallons and was done on 12/23/23 ). Here comes my nightmare....last oil delivery was done ll/25/24...174.6 gallons. I called today (12/17/24) because I noticed my tank was around the 1/4 mark to check and see when they were coming to deliver oil. Was told they came yesterday (12/16/24) and could not access my driveway. WHAT? Total lie. There was barely any snow on the ground and I went up and down the driveway in my small car many times yesterday....we also have a turnabout in our driveway so no need to even back a truck up. I then found out I was talking to some call center in PA who said I'm sure you have enough oil until they get there later this week...but still no date. She also had no information about why they could not access my driveway. They simply lied. UNBELIEVABLE read more

My contract expired in Dec. Instead of renewing in Jan the coldest month of the year and pay a high rate for an entire year,I decided to wait until heating season is over and pay as they deliver. The ok ast delivery was tjis week and it was $ 5.75 GALLON. FIVE DOLLARS AND SEVENTY FIVE CENTS PER GALLON! Gouging customers. Cheats. Ripoff artists. No regulations for these crooks? I used this company for a year, and when I moved from my rental topped off the oil tank. I mailed payment for the final delivery within 10 days of delivery, on September 8th. On September 28th I received a bill for the final delivery. I called the company, who said they never received the check. I paid then and there with a credit card, and stopped payment on the check (a $35 fee). I did this because I thought the check might be lost, but also because the Rep. told me that, EVEN IF MY ACCOUNT WAS PAID IN FULL, AND CLOSED, and the check finally reached them, they would still deposit the (double) payment, and it would be my responsibility to get them to refund the money. What company doesn't check your balance when they deposit your payment? Then, on November 6th, I received a bill from Petro for $25, because the check was refused by the bank. I called them and chose their "call back" option- I waited 1 hour for a call back. I was perfectly polite, told the rep. what my call was about, she asked for the phone number on the account, I told her, and then I said "I'm sorry, I did not get your name". Click- we were disconnected. So, 1 hour waiting for a call back, and back to square one. If you like feeling you are important to a company you do business with, avoid this one. Go for a small Mom and Pop Oil Delivery company. Hook and Ladder in New Preston CT is excellent (I used them for 5 years). Their prices are much better, you talk to an owner when you call, and they are responsive, pleasant, available, efficient and accommodating. Since I moved I have started using Baribault Fuel in Oakville CT, and they seem pretty good too. (Only bought one tank of propane from them so far). Avoid the big mega companies, like Petro. read more

They over charge for everything and their own workers and repairman hate the company too...I am talking about the Yaphank oil office..but they have many phone numbers and call centers because they are owned by a bigger company...SO STAY AWAY... Terrible billing practices...over priced, constantly filling tanks and wanting full payment. After agreeing on a payment plan they still continued to slam us with late fees. They claim everything is computer generated and they don't know what fees are being applied. They simply reimbursed my husband and I for the late fees that should not have been billed and acted like they were doing us the biggest favor. Patiently waiting for my contract to end, I refuse to pay them a fee to terminate, the fees that we have paid this company are in the hundreds of dollar range. I can't wait to get out of our contract, arguing my fees and trying to stop the deliveries have been a part time job! read more

The billing practices for this company are dishonest and corrupt. No matter what you say or how you try to protect yourself from being ripped off, they will continue to fill your tank repeatedly at inflated rates ($1 over market) dispite agreeing not to. All customer service reps appear to have gone through extensive training in double talking, contradiction, misinformation, inaccuate quotes etc and will just wear you down with bs until you give up. It is a full time job trying to keep up with your bill and you will never get down to the bottom of their billing practices. I was charged $200 the first year, $350 the second year, and $450 the 3rd year for my contract which consisted of one furnace tune up. When I called to schedule my (already paid for) tune up 3 months before my contract was up, they said that they couldn't fit me in for 4 months and that I would need to renew my contract in order for them to honor their end of the agreement. "Its the customers responsibility to schedule in a timely manner"...so much time and hard earned money wasted with this company. read more

This was my 1st renewal period (Dec 2015) and was shocked to hear it would be 4 months for an annual service. Shame on me. Did i really expect the company to have an army of servicemen on hand for the beginning of the heating system knowing that many people have boiler/furnace problems at this time. i did schedule a needed service call for the following day then I was transferred to Kelly Taylor in the Loyalty Work Group who handled my renewal. She answered all my concerns about pricing and was able to work a small miracle to get my annual service done more quickly. I truly feel that the company's interest is for the customer. should they prove me wrong in the future, I will be back to report to you. read more

Seems we've been overpaying for both oil and propane with them for a while. Their website is not as useful as it could be (doesn't give you a clear history of how much you've received with each delivery and what you've paid them). When I called to cancel our oil service the rep. was okay, but made no effort to persuade me to continue with them, just a few flippant remarks about how expensive my new electric heater would be (I informed her we also installed solar panels). We're newer to the area, so the concept of buying your own heating oil and propane has been a little frustrating to us, but still, I feel like Petro made it harder than it needed to be. I'm very glad we're down to less than a tank of oil a year and don't have to deal with this very much. read more

I would not recommend this company for service since their technicians sometimes do not diagnose problems correctly. When they did a tuneup and said the home would need a completely new heating/cooling system, I had another company (New England Air Systems) come out to diagnose. A small part was replaced in the condenser and voila! no need for a whole new system. Petro DID refund what I had paid them to service the unit, but I received no apologies from the company and no refunds for my service contract. This "mistake" on Petro's part could have been a costly error indeed. Unfortunately, I was already locked into their oil delivery and of course they would agreed to charge me somewhere around $300 to terminate, so still have to receive their oil deliveries. I did get a wonderful new company (Reliable Heating) that agreed to a service contract only. Buyer beware. read more
