I had an AC service appointment scheduled for over a month, and the company cancelled on me an hour and a half after the appointment window was already supposed to start. This was extremely frustrating because my job has very strict limits on work-from-home days, and I used one of my limited allotted days specifically for this appointment. The cancellation was not just inconvenient -- it wasted my time and impacted my work schedule. What made the situation worse was the customer service representative who called me. They were rude, unhelpful, and showed no concern at all for the fact that the company had wasted a customer's time. There was no real apology, no sense of accountability, and no effort to make the situation right. The most disappointing part is that this company requires customers to provide 24 hours' notice to cancel, but apparently does not hold itself to the same standard when cancelling on customers. If customers are expected to respect the company's schedule, the company should also respect the customer's time. Management should seriously review how cancellations are handled and how customers are treated when the company fails to honor scheduled appointments. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this company to anyone who needs reliable service or values their time. read more

Beware of the Petro Oil Co, they force Oil sales on Senior citizens. The last 2 times I ordered oil they came again the following week each time therefore doubling my oil purchase and obviously the bill. I ordered what I coud afford and they came and doubled it, I do not have extra money like that. I called them after the first time the gentleman said it was ordered by their computer. He said I was on automatic delivery so I said take me off that, he then mentioned I will have to check my oil and see when 1 need more, I said I already do that. The call ended. The next time I needed oil I called and ordered 100 gallons, the following week they did it again to me and deliverd me anotherextra 100 gallons which I did not have the money for. I called them again and said they did it to me again but I did not have the money this time. I said it would take me an extra month to pay that because my house taxes etc took Precedence. I was told I was still on automatic and I told them over a month ago to take me off that they the womansaid they can't do that and I have to stay on automatic delivery, so I said fine you still have to wait for payment and do not deliver any more oil to my house again because it would not get paid for at all. I am retired and my income is limited, companies like that think if they can forcibly deliver oil to customers that they have to pay no matter what, I did not order, authorize, or was informed of an upcoming delivery so I do not feel obligated to put off my other bills to pay them for another surprise delivery. I think I will put in an official complaint againist Petro. So they will get paid only not as fast as they want, and also their prices are one of the highest around for oil. We recently had an onsite visit for the purpose of receiving a quote from Petro Home Services. The quote was expected to be a 24 hour turnaround around with details regarding good, better, best options on a New Furnace, Heat Pump and Air Purifier system. Seemed pretty straightforward, but nothing beats reality! The quote was not received during the expected timeframe included 3 options of Heating and A/C cooling models with no particular model, in particular, but listed a family of discontinued models. No Heat Pumps were included, or mentioned anywhere, and the Air Purifier model had an ongoing class action suit, for various reasons of concern, against the brand. I could go on and on but I think this paints a Red Flag situation indeed. In a nutshell this company appears to be a scam operation with little value provided to the customer perspective or attention to detail based on this potential customers request. In my opinion I would recommend anyone reading this to not waste their time with this company if you're looking for a quality experience in an HVAC provider. read more

woke up sunday to a flooded basement due to my furnace breaking down. called petro (the company we purchased from). they sent a teck out to fix it. fast forward to tuesday, another representative shows up to take pictures and measure the area around the furnace. he tells us that we can finance with them, should it not be covered under warrenty. my furnace was installed in march 2018. in addition, the first teck that showed up informed us that the install was done incorrectly! now im waiting on the manufacturer to come and look at the furance to see if its covered. its wednesday morning, called the rep at 11:30 am to see when the manufacturer will come and i was told by the rep that he hadn't read his email as of yet! keep in mind, we have a 3 week old baby and my 89 year old father living in our home. what a company! read more

Received a bill stating to pay 0 (zero) because we had a smallish credit we paid $100 so that we could have a good sized credit before heating season AND they had the nerve to send us another bill stating that we still owed them the remaining portion of our monthly payment that they had told us not to pay since we had a credit. read more

My Mom has a contract with Petro which will not be renewed. Awful customer service. Called at 8:30 on 1/1/2018 my Mom had her heat restored at 9am the following day! She is 80 years and her house was 45 when they arrived. They had the opportunity to get the heat going at 2pm on 1/1/218 but they failed to call her when she didn't answer the door. Really! Where would she have gone? No phone call? After 15 minutes the driver was instructed to live her house. We didn't realized someone had stopped by till 7pm so the next appt was 5am. Really? I have used this company the past year for the 1st time in had a contract. My contract ended on October 31st they contacted me November 6th. They gave me pricing that I thought was a bit high so came back on the phone and gave me a nother price. I still felt it was higj and I wanted to check around which I told them I would do. I never called them back and to my surprise they delivered oil to me at a non contracted price that I did not request. When I called them they said that even though my contract was up they had me on automatic delivery. Why anybody would want their oil at such the high price they are When everybody was significantly lower is beyond me. I called about the bill and the delivery to which I had no Help whatsoever. They said it was stated in my contract. At no time in my original conversation with them did they ever say that I would still get automatic delivery if my contract ended. How convenient for them to leave that out. When I tell you they were at least 20 cents higher than most that I called is an understatement. I told them I would pay the bill at the $2.55 I would have gotten from another Company. They said that is not possible. I have been a customer of Petro's for 7 and a half years. I did not renew my contract this spring and I did not want any new deliveries. Earlier this week they did an automatic delivery and charged me 70 cents more than what I would have been charged by the company I just signed a contract with! I have been on the phone twice with them and a supervisor will be calling me again. If they had any decency they would apologize and charge me what my current company would charge me. The difference is $126. As I view it, they just stole $126 from my 4 and 6 year old daughters. 5 years ago they lost my refund check and for 2 months they talked to me like I was idiot...asking if I checked my mail carefully and that I might have thrown it out my mistake. After more than 40 years of dealing with Deblois Oil, Petro took over their account base. We are on an automatic delivery, which has failed us twice. With record-breaking temperatures, our tank ran out of oil today. My wife was on hold 40 minutes today to finally get through, scheduled a delivery today. At 6:30 pm I called, again 40 minutes on hold, now it won't be until sometime tomorrow!!!!! We're in our 70's and have no intentions of staying in a house where the temp will cause the pipes to freeze. Petro was our heating oil supplier for eight years. We'd been on the budget plan all that time. Late last year they called my wife and told her that we'd been late on three payments; we'd therefore voided our budget plan contract, and owed them approximately $1000 immediately. They told my wife that they'd discussed this with me by phone, earlier. But that simply wasn't true. If we were going to be hit with a $1000 charge, I'd have remembered that! Another problem: when they called my wife, we were less than TWO months into our budget contract. So how could we have been late on THREE payments? I spoke to them, and they gave me the runaround. We paid them - it was robbery, as far as I'm concerned - and waited until our contract expired to cancel the contract (otherwise they'd charge us a penalty fee of $600). When the contract expired we found a new, local heating oil provider at a better price. But when I called Petro to cancel our account, they were difficult. The person I spoke to wanted to ARGUE with me. I was polite, but asked for written confirmation that our account had been cancelled. We haven't received that, but I'm looking forward to it. Now Petro is leaving voicemail for us, asking us to call them back to discuss our account. I'm not interested in speaking to them. They stole $1000 from us, as far as I'm concerned; there's nothing more to discuss. Avoid at all cost! Prices are exponentially higher than other local companies. Customer service cannot be trusted. I was told my delivery date was moved back several months as I did not need to be refilled. (over 3/4 of a tank) After spending over 2 hours trying to cancel and being transferred over and over again, I agreed to not cancel, but only if they move back my delivery date. I was told several times by this customer service person that she had already noted the account. 5 days later I received an oil delivery i do not need, and do NOT have money to pay. I was then told they were very sorry, and I could take my time paying it... but they can not promise I wont get a 2nd and 3rd notice if I do not pay it. I am done with PETRO! I sort of inherited Petro oil when they bought out my previous oil supplier. My previous oil supplier was always a little bit more expensive than others (about $0.10 or $020) but they were always timely and provided good service so I thought the peace of mind was worth it. After Petro took over, the price gap slowly increased and I switched to a local company, they are MUCH MUCH more expensive. If you are on Petro, you are getting ripped off. I've been a customer with Petro Oil for 30 years. Last Year we had a new burner and water heater put in by them to the tune of 8 grand. I just ran out of oil, because they had not received my check and so did not deliver our scheduled delivery. Neither my husband or I received any messages or mail in regards to being late on ONE payment of $500 - so now it's the middle of winter and we have no OIL. Unreal! I bought a house in March and my oil tank was low. They said they would have someone come out on St. Paddy's day to fill my tank. They said they would be there between 8-4pm. My delivery got cancelled and no one told us until we called at 5:30pm. My tank ran out and we had friends over and we were supposed to go out, but the technician never showed up until 10pm. We received a credit after I complained but the damage was already done. He did a good job Then an oil truck showed up to my house in late April to fill my tank. Funny thing is they told me I was not on automated delivery. When I called they said my tank was low when I had 3/4 tank was filled. They said they "estimated" my usage when I told them we only use oil for heat. Then I made an appointment for July 1st for them to come out and service the furnace and replace the parts for the yearly maintenance plan. This service was scheduled in late April. They called me the night before at 4:30pm to tell me they were cancelling my appointment. I took that day off for this. When I called and threatened to cancel my service, they had a technician at my door on July 1st I can't wait to cancel my plan and never deal with this company again. You get treated like crap and if I made false claims and "estimated" usage at my job I would be fired! read more

They charged me $605 for a low water cutoff which costs $200 then tell me my boiler is cracked and I need a new boiler and will only take the $600 charge off if I buy and install the new boiler or convert to gas with them. My most recent propane delivery came in at over 25% more than a local supplier 1 mile away? Have been a Tankfarm (Buying Consortium) member for over 3 years. Tankfarm promises lowest prices? Called Petro cust svc. On hold for over 35 minutes only to reach a rep who could barely speak english, 500 miles away in a call center. Later received a call from Petro rep who justified the price gouging by "talking up" their excellent customer service?? WTF!? Have received 1/2 dozen calls from Tankfarm reps trying to smooth relationship. The reason I paid thousands of $$ to own my own propane tank is that there are way too many scum bags in the "propane delivery space". Shame on Tank Farm! I have been on hold for one hour and 45 minutes. Still waiting to report a problem with my burner.. I do want to report I emailed them and very early they contacted me. The tech, Steve, whom was wonderful, was at my door by 12 noon. He was efficient..I have had this tech many times over the years..he is great! Was done and gone in under one hour. I was contacted by Liz later this afternoon to see if I was all set. Excellent customer service in the end.. Just glad it was a not a no heat situation. My unit was leaking water. By far one of the most incompetent companies that I have ever dealt with in any industry. Viking subcontracted them to come out and fix my dishwasher which is less than 6 months old. Was told replacement part would be in within 2 weeks. 4 weeks later, still haven't heard anything. Made 7 separate phone calls and 2 emails, all of which I was ensured that a manager would get back to me - which never happened. Finally after a scathing social media message, I finally hear back from someone who says "I'm sorry.. We are no longer handling Viking warranties at this time". Really???! You sent someone out to my house to look at it, knowing the entire time this was under warranty.. And sometime during then and now, you decide that you no longer wish to handle Viking warranties? On top of that, you don't return calls / emails to inform me of this. This company is an absolute joke... do yourself a favor and use ANYONE BUT PETRO, they suck!!!! read more

Petro is HORRIBLE. Their pricing is OUTRAGEOUS at over 150% higher than the small local companies. Petro claims that you (the consumer) are paying a premium for their "Full Service." The oil over flowed all over the basement floor due to the worker not putting the cap on all the way... then when they came to "fix" the problem he threw absorbent down on the oil. And told me to clean it when it dried. So basically I'm out of oil because of them, and I'm left to do their dirty work. We've been loyal Petro customers for a three years.They were always on time,nothing to complaint about the service.Once we left on vacation and our burner shut down.We realized that when we came home and it was freezing.Petro fixed a problem within 24 hrs.Thanks God we have a fireplace. The problems started when we decided to opt out of their services and choose a local company,whose prices are 30 cents LESS than Petro !. Petro charged us 174$ for a yearly contract on early January. I immediately gave them a call saying that we had a discussion in December and we clearly told them we need some time to research the market ,cuz their prices are very high. The girl in the phone apologized and transferred me to her manager Greg. I had to explain it one more time. after 10 min Greg PROMISED to return our money. OK I felt happy.2 weeks later there was no money in our account. I called again,talked with Greg AGAIN. was promised to get the money next week. week later -NOTHING ! then they called us,offering no annual fee plan and promising that oil prices will never be higher than 2,70$ for us. I said "I will think about it when I'll see my money back". 2 weeks later-no money.... Called again,talked with manager Sheryl (?) ,she promised to send the check in the mail . that supposed to be done in 7-10 days. I finally saw some hope there. We left on vacation and 20 days later there is NO check from Petro !!! I'm thinking my next step supposed to be -small claims court. Anybody has an advice ? read more

Wow Petro sucks. Consistently terrible. Let me tell you a couple stories... One night my wife and I woke up to the smell of oil. It quickly became apparent that the smell was coming from our forced air heating vents. We called Petro to have a service technician come by and check it out. He fumbled around for a while down there and then came to the conclusion that we needed a new furnace. We called BS on that one since we knew the furnace was new. So they sent a different technician over. He also fumbled around down there and claimed to have fixed the issue. Needless to say he did not and the smell came back. It took about a month, multiple phone calls, and at least 3 service appointments from 3 different technicians to finally resolve the problem. The more recent story involves us waking up in the morning to find the vent blowing cold air. Thermastat read 45 when it was set to 60. I went down to the furnace and noticed the red button on top of the engine in the furnace needed to be pushed in (kind of like when a circuit trips on your bathroom outlet). So I pushed it in and the heat came back on. The next morning the same thing happened. I again turned it back on, but had a technician come by to prevent this from happening again in the future. He came by on a Thursday and claimed to have replaced the starter and oil pump. Saturday rolls around and we notice the cold air again, only this time I can't reset the starter. It's just broken, somehow worse than it was BEFORE the technician "fixed" it. The guy on the phone claimed someone would come between 12-6 then called again to say they're running late and may come as late as 8 or later. This is the continuing trend with them. They obviously have incompetent people working for them if it consistently takes multiple visits to fix something. Not to mention they're under staffed such that it takes hours and hours and hours to respond to a call. I haven't even mentioned the prices and nonsense that goes along with the financial aspect of Petro, since it seems others have already addressed it. My wife could tell you stories about trying to get useful information/help from anyone when you call them, especially at night. Bottom line: Petro is one of the most incompetent companies I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with (and there have been quite a few!). DO NOT USE PETRO. Update 2/1/15: After posting this review and speaking with a supervisor on the phone, they offered to waive our service charge next year, should we choose to stay with them. The supervisor also said that she'll pads the information along to other supervisors and talk to us again for more input. Time will tell if this is true and if anything comes from it. read more

Petro is currently charging me $3.55 per gallon, every other oil company is charging $2.25. They want $599. to cancel my contract or I have to pay this outrageous price. I had the flu, I was in the hospital and they were calling and harassing me when I got home about delivering. I told them not to come because I had to open the gate and was too sick. I told them I would call for a delivery as soon as I felt better. They sent a truck on several occasions and a person to talk to me about the delivery. I explained with my voiceless sore throat that I had a fever and was very sick and would call as soon as I felt better. They insisted I would run out of oil, we did not run out. They said they would deliver the 200 gallons . I told them that I had been using the gas heater (also their contract) to heat the house and that I would be needing gas more than oil, they insisted I should be out of oil. I had someone measure and the oil was at about 50 gallons. They said they would send 200 gallons, I reminded them they installed the gas heater and make the money either way, it did not stop them. The lady who refused to identify herself said they would dump the 200 gallons even I it overflowed. I said do not deliver. She said we will send a bill for 599. termination fee. I told her the weather at that time was 40+ every day and we had new insulated windows, insulation blown in, a new energy efficient heater installed and weatherproofed the entire house. That is why we used less, she insisted on 200 gallons and put me through hell for a week of threatening phone calls about overfilling and expensive clean ups.
