They are one of very few places that carry the very specific kind of cat food my cats eat. And their prices for said cat food are cheaper than anywhere else (with your shopper card, of course). Usually PetSmart isn't the first place you go to get your dog groomed. However, we live near here and he needed his nails done SO bad. We went in a couple of weeks ago and asked the groomer on duty what the best type of clippers would be for our pug. She was so nice and so helpful that I knew I would be coming to get them done by her. I called and Alyssa answered and I was so thankful because she was who I wanted to talk to! When we got there, she was so nice to our pug. He is SO squirmy and generally a pill when it comes to doing his paws. She was awesome and so nice and helpful. She even recommended a nail schedule so they don't get bad again. I'll be going back to her every time. Thanks so much Alyssa!! This store is so nice and the employees are helpful. NOTE: this review is only for shopping at Petsmart, not their grooming or vet services. I've got two cats (the girls!) and tend to buy their stuff here, since it's decently close to my house. They have a decent selection of cat food, although I'd certainly prefer more. I was so spoiled by the Pet Supply Plus close-ish to my house in Chicago, since my old jalopy can't reliably make it to the one in Austin. In turn, Petsmart had to step up and has done a pretty solid job...although it could definitely have more variety. Super friendly staff, though! read more

(assistant?) manager just stood at the front of the store and spoke v condescendingly to a black guy who had a miscommunication about an application he'd submitted. like- he literally stood at the end of the cashier lanes and did the bullshit thing where self-important ppl speak loudly and overly brusque in front of customers, etc. the store office was maybe 10 feet away?... ultimately he turned the dude away instead of taking 30 minutes out of his (surely!) packed schedule to interview someone. after the exchange and the applicant left, i provided the employee with some constructive criticism. he was tooootally sincere when he thanked me and told me it was good to know. i agree! i think your boss might feel the same way. it's 2018 asshole. this shit don't fly no more. read more

This review is primarily for the Grooming Salon. Brea has taken such good care of our poodle's grooming needs that we drive an extra few minutes every four weeks just to get to this Petsmart. She has provided excellent customer service and each time our family visits, we are grateful for her kindness. Online booking is also super easy and convenient. Our poodle's hair can get matted and being a young dog he is a bit wiggly. We are proud to trust Brea and Petsmart to be the best. Our poodle has had about 8-9 grooms there. I love this location; they have tons of different types of litter. I prefer the fresh scent, non-clumping kind they sell. I've had to buy so many types of litter before finally finding a good, reliable brand I can trust. When I use the litter, I find that it really does keep the bad scent hidden. I know some people may think it's a little weird that I use a litter box, but I honestly find it more sanitary and easier to use than a conventional toilet. The post from Esther seems fake to me, that location doesn't even have a petshotel for boarding. And the groomer Valerie has groomed my dog in the past and has done a horrible job. She ruined the cut, so I spoke with the manager who said my dogs cut would be fixed for free. They never told me it would be by the same groomer who messed up! I had to take my dog back a THIRD time for someone else to fix him. I have had fine experiences in the rest of the store, especially the dog trainer Kris. And the Banfield staff is nice and helpful. read more

After almost two years of taking my poodle to Petmart in the Barbara Jordan shopping center at Muelar, my dog was seriously traumatized by her grooming last Sunday!! Her feet were shaved too close and she suffered nasty blade burns requiring a trip to the vet! Ever since Sunday, she has been lathergic and withdrawn! I am unclear as to what really happened but I will NEVER set foot in the store again. Much of the problem is with the turnover in groomers. As they work exclusively for tips and are contract labor, it is no wander that the turnover is as high as it is! Think twice or more before you take your dog here. read more

This PetSmart is located in the new Mueller shopping center, and is super convenient as it is within walking distance from our house. My husband and I knew we wanted a dog, and when we saw that PetSmart was hosting a Dog Adoption Fair here several months ago, we ventured up to see what was going on. That is where we discovered Austin Dog Rescue, who connected us with our new furry friend, McBain. Our new wet-nosed, tail-wagging guy is perfect for us, but he was having some leash walking issues. We headed up to PetSmart, McBain in tow, to see if we could find a better collar/harness to help keep him from pulling too much. He was a bit rowdy in the store, and didn't like how he slipped all over the shiny floor. After trying to contain him in the leash and collar aisle while we looked over our options, (why oh why do they put the bones and pig ears on the same aisle!! He was going nuts!) a friendly store employee came over to offer help. She pointed us to a great harness that boasts that it will keep him from pulling, without hurting him, and offered to take us to their training area to fit it on him and let us try it out. She even called over their staff dog trainer to help us out. The difference was immediate, and he has been a perfect walker ever since! They also directed us to some indestructible chew toys for the big guy to comp on, that have kept him ever so happy. I'm glad that this place is within walking distance, and will head here again if in need of supplies or advice. read more

Extremely upset with the disrespect and lack of professionalism by one of the groomers. Her name starts with an 'M' and works the Thursday shift. STAY AWAY. I have been going to that Pet Smart for years and will never step foot in that store again. That groomer should be no where near anyone's dog and is quite frankly a disgrace to the store and the other employees that work so hard to give a positive experience. This review is specifically of the Grooming Salon and Ellen in particular. I was apprehensive about bringing Finn (my 12 pound Jack Russell/Shih Tzu mix) in after reading some reviews but it seemed like Ellen had a couple good reviews. So I selected her for our first appointment and I'm so happy I did! My dog CANNOT stay still under any circumstances and tends to be pretty skittish. He gets traumatized fairly easily and comes out of here happy as a clam with Ellen! She really does a great job with everything - he always gets a premium groom, so hair cut, bath, nail trim, ears cleaned, all that. I've never once had an issue with his hair cut and he's never been nicked or cut or anything (which I'm sure happens every now and again, especially with wiggly dogs!). She's so patient with him and so sweet! Definitely check out Ellen here if you've been worried about taking your dog to Petsmart - she's awesome! As an addition, their store is pretty good. I've always been asked if I needed help if I look like I'm wandering and everyone's pretty friendly. read more

I just moved to the austin area, but have been taking my dogs to Petsmart for grooming for awhile now. Well when I get here, I decided to use petsmart again. Well, the grooming my poor baby received was horrible. They did the worse job cutting him, leaving him very uneven and with big patches of hair missing. My baby, was so embressed, he didn't even want to hang out of the window and show his face. Every time I take my dog to any pet smart grooming including this one I always end up getting a call asking me to come pick up my dog bcuz they can't groom her. I always warn them that my dog has very bad anxiety & freaks out a bit & while the ladies there seam to b very nice I just don't think they r experienced enough to deal with every type of dog. Needless to say I have just given up and take my dog to a local place where they always do a good job and I never hear complaints about my dog. Like all pet smart has to offer just don't think their groomers r the best. Horrible. They first off put the wrong breed on their sheet, I corrected them. They ignored me. I called in to correct them when I got a reminder email for my appointment, they said it would be corrected when I got there. I got there, they then refused to correct it and said that they did it that way because "my dog's hair is thicker than other border collies so it's only fair that she's recorded as a bearded collie." What in the fuck does that even mean? Also, the kid that wrote that, HADN'T EVEN SEEN MY DOG WHEN HE WROTE IT. Whatever, it's a $5 increase in price, I'm not that worried about it. I'm busy, I don't have time to find somewhere else to take my dogs over $5 but wow I hate being nickel and dimed. I also don't have time to write stupid fucking internet reviews but this place pissed me off enough, I made some time. They called me to complain that they couldn't get my puppy to cooperate with a bath. I specifically told them not to bathe my dogs because they have allergies. I don't know what kind of shampoo they use, I don't want to mess with it. It doesn't even matter what the reason is, I specifically said, "do not bathe my dogs, just cut the hair please." They did it anyways because, "Oh but it's included." I DON'T CARE IF IT'S INCLUDED. This is not a difficult request to accommodate. Later I get a call that my puppy is freaking out because she wasn't near her brother. Then put her next to her brother or let me take her home. For fuck's sake, I gotta hold their hands through everything I guess. Then I go to pick up my puppies and my puppy's nose has a gigantic cut on it. They failed to mention that. I highly doubt they didn't see it, it's fucking huge right in the center of her face. I guess they just hoped I didn't notice. Cool. You cut my dog's face or were negligent enough to let her go so crazy in your crates that you let her get to the point of having a huge gash on her face. Cool, thanks assholes. Then, the final price they give me was a full $10 higher than they told me it would be when I signed them up for an appointment. What hidden cost was there that I couldn't be given an accurate price? By the way, the prices are nowhere to be found on the price sheet. Their little menu they have by the register is add on crap and nonsense meant for up selling people who walk in. So, you can't follow simple instructions not to bathe my dogs. You can't stop my dog from cutting her face open. You can't figure out simple things like calling me and asking me to come pick up my dogs or just put them next to each other in the kennels. You can't give me an accurate price. You have to make up bullshit to charge me more and change the breed of my dog on the paperwork for no discernible reason other than just charging me more. What exactly do they do that's good? Because it certainly isn't cutting hair, the haircuts my dogs got look objectively awful. Their hair is patchy, and it's pretty obvious they just took clippers and said, "whatever" and just did it as quickly as possible. Which, I'm really not that picky. I just wanted their hair to be shorter than it was, so it's fine BUT they charged me $148 for a fucking hair cut. If I had paid $50 for both the dogs, I wouldn't care, I'd expect it to be rushed and look like crap. You're not going to make any money if you spend an hour on each dog and you only made $50 for both, I get it. I PAID TRIPLE THAT. If I'm paying $148 for a hair cut, I needs to look like you took more than 5 minutes doing it. If I hand you $148 to cut my fucking dog's hair, not only had that haircut better be fantastic. My dogs better have had the fucking time of their life. $148 for a haircut for two border collies? What a joke. This place is horrible and I won't ever go back there. This PetSmart is shiny and new. We stopped in Friday after work to add to our aquarium. The person in the "fish department" (I made that up- what else would it be called) was a real help. She was funny and knowledgeable, helping us choose an African Dwarf Frog and a yellow male guppy. She answered all of our questions and was fun to be around. They also had more selection for things to put in your tank than other PetSmart and Petco locations we've visited, which was good, because we wanted something tiny. We found a little bridge for $4.99 for our frog to hide under when he's filling shy. read more

Had a healthy, thriving tank of 15 fish. I decided to add one more fish, a sort of crown jewel to my aquarium, and I decided a black moore goldfish would be the perfect addition. My usual fish supply store was closed so I decided to go to Petsmart. Why oh why didn't I just wait for River City to open? Within a week of introducing my black moore to my tank, the first white spots began appearing on its tail fin. And then on one of my tetras. In horror, I realized my tank had been infected with ich. I immediately began preventive measures and medicated my tank. The goldfish died a day or two later. And then another died...and then another. Less than three weeks after I purchased a fish from petsmart, all of my fish are dead (a total of $200 worth of fish), and my tank is standing fallow for the next eight weeks, and all of my decor is now in the trash ($150 of plants and decorations). I brought it up to a store associate on the phone and they didn't seem to care...at all. So unless you want a $370 black moore goldfish that'll be dead in a week, don't get your aquatics supplies from petsmart. read more

Can I give less than 1 star? For $54, my 12lb dog got a horrible uneven cut and fleas. Ironic, since I asked for a PREVENTATIVE flea treatment. I had to return to the store 3 times, as they kept telling me it would be just one more hour, it took them 6 hrs?? I can only imagine the torture/or neglect my lovable pup indured. I have tried a bunch of groomers and this PetSmart is definitely the best deal. More importantly, they are crazy nice: I took my dog there last week to get a haircut. I really like how they give the progress report on skin/ears/nails/teeth, but this time when I picked my dog up, her groomer had left and they couldn't find the report. Not a big deal, and I forgot all about it. This weekend I get a handwritten card from the groomer with the missing progress report and a note apologizing for not giving it to me earlier. So nice! I loved training with Jen Musselwhite. I took one of my babies there for beginner and intermediate training, and will also be taking her to advanced. The same with my other baby, I'll be taking her to begginer/intermediate training soon. She really has a way with dogs, and I know Elphie enjoyed the class. We both learned a lot. The staff and management are super friendly, and always remember us when we come in. They are also super helpful. I took Elphie in for a bath once, but it didn't seem to help her shedding. Her fur was super shiny and smelled good afterward though. They have also clipped the quick of my girls nails twice, but they are dark, so that is understandable. The groomers are really receptive to my grooming needs, and how my dogs need two groomers to trim their nails (one to treat, the other to hold and trim). I can't trim the nails by myself, because the girls get nervous. The groomers seem to really calm my dogs down, and also enjoy whenever I bring them in. This Petsmart is super clean, and I believe has a good selection. I always enjoy bringing my girls here. read more

Horrible grooming experience. We called on the phone to specifically ask about our dog's grooming needs and they said they could do it. We get to the store, and a rude groomer decides she can't groom the dog. She said her blade wouldn't work on its' fur, but other groomers have handled it fine. She just seemed lazy and not in the mood to work. I asked for the manager, and he seemed to really want her to go ahead and groom the dog as he didn't think it would be that difficult, but still left the ultimate decision with her, and it was obvious she didn't want to work. I ended up going to another groomer who had no problem with the grooming, and did it for $30 cheaper. read more

Took my dog to the groomers for a nail grinding. He's is still a puppy but he had already gotten used to getting his nail trimmed. He was doing okay for the first three paws but on the last one another groomer brings out another dog to groom it. That dog was having problems but the groomer got frustrated was shouting "no" before saying "I don't know what to do with this dog" making all the dog in the groomers area freak out. SHE SHOULD not be working at PetSmart if she can't control her frustration made me actually believe that the rumors of dog abuse in PetSmart grooming department are true!!! read more

HORRIBLE! I was shocked at the terrible nail clipping experience I had there with my doggie. I had recently got her and took her to get her nails clipped. I didn't do it myself because her nails are black and I didn't want to take the chance of making her quick bleed. I expected for them to be sweet and loving with their "professional" grooming skills and was shocked when they attached her to this cold table by her neck and awkwardly gripped her leg and proceeded to grind her nails as she yelped. I will never go back to any Pet Smart for any of my animal care needs. I am not one to complain to the management but I did and was appalled at how they didn't seem to care and gave me a $3.00 coupon to come back. Yeah right, no thanks. I was in this location yesterday conducting a meet and greet with a potential adopter for a non-profit dog rescue in Austin. I have been in animal rescue for over 20 years and I have conducted numerous meet and greets as well as finalized many adoptions within Petsmart stores all over Texas. We also hold our meet and greet events at Petsmart locations when we are not experiencing a pandemic. I was under the impression that Petsmart was a partner in animal rescue. That was NOT how I was treated yesterday, and that is NOT how these potential adopters were treated-nor were our rescue dogs. My foster dog clearly had an "ADOPT ME" harness and leash on, this nice couple and I were in the cat section of the store-where there is NO dog traffic, not much traffic at all actually-we were not disturbing or bothering anyone, nor were we impeding anyone from shopping. the associate asked if we needed help with a perturbedattitude, more than twice, we explained what we were doing, she asked if I asked the manager?! I am not an employee, I am not working for a company conducting business in the store (which I have also done as a dog food demo rep before, in many a PetSmart location), and I am not a child who needs to ask permission in order to meet people in a public, supposedly dog friendly place, where I spend hundreds of dollars a month! She said we were loitering! I have never been in such a hurry to leave somewhere in my life, I felt extremely unwelcome, disrespected and absolutely appalled at how they treated us. We went to Petco and finished our rescue efforts and spent our Money there instead, I will make sure to continue doing so. read more

I'm so disappointed in their veterinary and will not be going back. I took my dog to get some studies done because he has a ball on his chest. They told me they should be getting back to me with the results in about 3-5 days but it's was already past due and I decided to call them for answers. And they told me they had lost the results!!! Like what how does that happen but I understand it can happen and schedule to redo my dogs study. The appointment was on a Sunday and I took him as plan and when I got there they told me it was ok Saturday and I had lost the appointment but I was positive it was on Sunday and I told them that they were wrong and all they said that "sorry you're right, we put the date wrong on our system, it was today. We have to reschedule the appointment." I am mad at this, disappointing from all the workers there. These study's are very important to me, to know if my dog is okay or not. They do NOT care about their patients or the dogs!!!!! never going back. read more

I am currently 8 months pregnant and just don't have the energy to bathe my two Australian Cattle Dogs myself right now. That being said, they were in desperate need of grooming - I wasn't sure where to take them but this PetSmart is close to my house, so I made an appointment online, not really knowing what to expect. I just booked them for baths, with the FURminator add-on for my blue heeler who is shedding like crazy lately. When I picked them up they seemed perfectly happy and calm, were so incredibly soft and smelled SO clean. Gavyn was their groomer and he did a wonderful job, I highly recommend him! read more

If there was a negative star option, that is what I'd give this location in Austin. I had a coupon for a free 2-6 pound bag of Blue Buffalo that I received via email. I was excited to go by there ( I was in the neighborhood) and get the free bag of dog food. Well I get to the register and the coupon won't work so the store manager ,Josh, is called. He proceeds to tell me the reason the coupon isn't working is because it's it's altered. I tell him " Excuse me, but are you saying I altered it? " He shrugs like...yea. I tell him, that's crazy, I just printed it out, I have the email in my phone. So I open the email, he acknowledges yea that was the email and when I click on the link to access the coupon loo and behold its the same freaking coupon I printed out! He then changed his reply to...well it's spam. I told him "wait a minute, now you say it's spam..why did I get it?" He had no reply. I continued to say " I've gotten coupons from petsmart before and never had a problem. So any coupons in get now could be spam?" He just shrugged and kept with the same answer it's spam. By then I'd had enough and walked out the store. I then replied to the email I got from petsmart and complained about the situation. Then I called the phone # on the email and spoke to a nice lady ,linda, she said she was only for customer service products online but would take my complaint and forward to higher up, she took my phone # and said someone would be calling me.. I thanked her and hung up. As I told the customer service lady, I don't like to complain but it's the principal of the matter. I felt this manager Josh accused me of trying to steal and when I showed him that I didn't alter the coupon but that it came like that he then pulled some other crap outta his a**. Mind you, never once did he apologize. I can tell you this, I wont be going back to that location. read more

I've always been happy with the customer service at this store. For example, one time they were out of the 2-lb bags of dried yam treats, and they told me they would be getting more in a few days. I (quite unreasonably, I know) said that I needed them for my dog's Christmas gift, and they offered to sell me 4 of the 1/2-lb bags for the price of a 2-lb bag. Another time they let me exchange a rather large and pricy item without the receipt. It seems to me that overall their goal is to give good service and have people come back again and again, rather than nickel and dime people to get a bit here and there but have dissatisfied customers. This may or may not be the case with other Petsmart locations; I just know what I've experienced here. I do wish they had a bigger selection of food (Acana would be nice) but they do have Blue Buffalo, which will do in a pinch, and overall their selection of treats, toys, leashes, beds, etc. is pretty good. read more
