Nice staff but I would not recommend having your dog dog groomed here. I have a Toy Australian Sheppard that has been groomed between 10 to 15 times during her lifetime and she has never once had issues with being groomed until today. I asked for her to be groomed and to take a couple inches off her coat. What she got was a wash and her coat only being 3/4 dry. They claimed they could not finish the grooming because she was exhibiting "aggressive behavior". So now I am stuck with a bill for a fancy dog bath that couple of done at home and no hair trimming. I understand there are protocols their groomers have to follow but as a first time customer this is not what I expected. read more

Although in a crappy area of Costa Mesa, this Petsmart is pretty well stocked and friendly staff, with the exception of the Manager who is a real grump. He's not friendly like his staff. I asked him questions and he was real abrupt and short about things and he does not smile...ridiculous for a manager who is supposed to be the role model. We're taking our puppy to dog obedience school and the instructor is such a sweetheart and you can tell she loves animals. She is almost like the dog whisper and has great tips on training our dog. read more

TL;DR: Rude workers. Overpriced products. Lower end products. Don't come here. I tried to use a coupon for free small bag of Wellness dog food this evening and they said that the coupon was already redeemed. Puzzled, I asked when and where the coupon was used, to which the cashier answered, "Yesterday, at 9:06 am in this store", only to add onto my bewilderment. INTERESTING. My boyfriend is at work at that time, his brother is at work, and I'm at school and we are the only ones in this vicinity that would even step into this store who could access his email to get the coupon and know his number associated to the account. During this whole fiasco, the cashier calls his manager over and has a lightbulb moment and mentions that he remembers an Asian male and a white male who came in yesterday who tried to use the same kind of coupon and it ALSO didn't work yesterday, so he had to call his supervisor over. If you can tell by my profile, I am an Asian woman, and I really didn't see the need to mention race or assume I'm dating an Asian man. Could I not be dating beautiful white, brown, or black people? You know what was crazier? The Asian man tried to use the coupon for the same EXACT bag I was trying to get! WOW! What a coincidence! My boyfriend's brother doesn't even own a dog. My boyfriend's dog only eats a particular brand of food - not the one I was trying to buy. I told them to look at their surveillance cameras because I will bet a million dollars that none of us were here yesterday. In the end, they were standing strong on their word and did not want to honor the coupon (because we apparently must do this often and try to get free bags of food). Since we're mentioning race here, the Asian male cashier involved convinced me to donate to their charities last time, which I happily agreed and he was nice then, but wow, this experience left a sour impression. Racist, rude people. I was just trying get a bag of free food to keep in my car for stray dogs, since I recently found a stray and had difficulty getting him into my car... Other than this incident...this store is way overpriced. You can find prices incomparably cheaper on Amazon.com or chewy.com or what the heck, even the smaller, local pet stores (Pet Supply, Local Pet Market, Centinela) STILL sell things for cheaper than at PetSmart. Through online shopping, you won't have to deal with rude associates. At local pet stores, you'll find workers who are knowledgeable and have better customer service. read more

I went to the Craig Rd/MLK store 12/17 leaving at 2:43pm and got in my car and then was surrounded by three big vehicles. One pulled up on my passenger side angled it's front toward the rear of my vehicle. Another pulled on the driver's side, and the third stopped me from going forward by pulling directly in front of me. Then all the sudden I realized there was a body at my divers' door; scared me so bad I put that car in reverse and flew out of that space and I do not remember looking out my back. If anything had been drove up behind me or even walked behind me, I would have hit it, them, or whatever. I get home telling my sister about a robbery attempt, but I woke in the middle of the night and realized those vehicles were new, those guys weren't thugs, they were store/lot security. Someone in PetSmart had fingered me as a shoplifter and my bet is that was the woman with the little Beagle/Jack Russell looking dog that never had a basket, picked up an occasional item, looked to be using the phone all the time. For sure I petted that dog twice and might have petted it 3 times, because at every turn that woman and dog was there. As an old black woman (70s) that walked in wearing a mask I have a pretty good idea what triggered that response and the thought just makes me sick at the stomach. And, I tried to give that store a break; I thought maybe because I didn't put the bag food on the counter the kid didn't ring it up, but it's on the receipt. Then I thought maybe I spent too much time looking for 9-Lives, but if that was it why not send someone over to see if I'm finding what I'm looking for. And, what really bothers me is that they felt free to treat a customer that way without any proof of theft. They keep talking about shop local, but stunts like this one make delivery sound even better. read more

This store has an incredible grooming department!!! I have a miniature dachshund who used to freak out every time we took him to get a nail trim...fancy place, random spot, it did not matter. He'd either freak out...bark bite, or cry...or the people would get a little rough, or put him in a headlock, and I didn't like that at all. Since coming this store we have had zero issues!! I hand them my dog...they do the deal...he's mellow the whole time, and we're done. I don't know how they do it, but we're super grateful, and would highly recommend you give them a shot!! read more

Just an FYI regarding 2022 GIFT CARDS. Don't count on them consistently working since at least 9/20/22. I was informed there is a system problem. No fix date available. I want to use the gift card for online purchases where the card # is invalid. I was even sent another gift card because of my frustration. This gift card # is invalid too. The gift card rep kept repeating the card is active. Another rep apologized that she could not complete a phone order because she saw the same invalid message. I have called 4 times since 10/18/22. The card worked once for an online order. It is not working today. I have not tried going into the store to use the card because I will be very annoyed if it doesn't work. If the card does work and you have to go into the store and pay store prices, the 10% discount on this card is not worth it to me. I had to order litter shipped from a competitor. Maybe your card will work fine, just be aware the number may show up as invalid. read more

Great place! I Bring my dog here all the time for grooming and have never had any issues-and I am very picky about anything that involves my dog. The staff is friendly and I have nothing but pleasant things to say about them. When I usually get my dog groomed I do a cut, teeth cleaning, ear cleaning, and nails and the prices are great. You don't need an appointment for nail grinding/or nail cut... That's a walk in process that takes about ten minutes. For bath and cut you need an appointment. read more

I am always so impressed by the friendly, helpful and well-informed staff of our neighborhood PetSmart, but this weekend, they really hit it out of the park. My son's leopard gecko, purchased 2 years ago at this very store, suddenly developed an eye infection in both eyes, as a result of an incomplete shed. This was the first ever health issue she had developed the whole time we have owned her, and we were just so upset and worried she would possibly go blind. Late Friday evening, we placed her in the travel carrier and went to the store, to see if the staff knew of a good small animal vet. Two young ladies of the staff were so helpful and reassuring to us, and they actually pulled a staff member off his break to come see our gecko. Jordan, the reptile expert staff member, promptly came out to us and looked at our gecko. He reassured us that these eye infections are actually common, and that if we got her to the vet for an exam and some eye drops, that would help get her back in shape. We were so relieved to hear that this common problem could be easily resolved. The staff really went above and beyond to help us out. We went to All Creatures Pet Cottage the next morning, had an exam and got eye drops, and our gecko is doing so much better. Great job, PetSmart! read more

So much for this place "caring and valuing" their customers and staff during the pandemic. I get that people need to work and buy essentials, but I wasn't expecting an adoption party of 50+ people huddled together around cute little animals. I'm glad people are eager to adopt pets, but there's got to be a safer and more professional way to go about it. I feel bad for the employees who are stuck in an unprofessional, uncaring and lack of control environment and risk their wellbeing. But, I suppose the CEO's and managers "words" of "We'll continue to monitor this situation closely to ensure the safety of everyone who enters our stores" speak louder than action when it comes to safety. We dropped off our 60-pound puppy at Petsmart in Costa Mesa for a bath and grooming expecting to pick her up in a couple of hours with no problem. What happened was far from that; she had staples in her leg from a deep puncture wound after we picked her up early when they called us. The first thing they said was she was bleeding badly from a pre-existing injury from before we dropped her off. No! She wasn't injured before we dropped her off! We asked what happened to her, and we were greeted by the store manager, their veterinarian, and a store employee. They all would not tell us what happened, and they said they didn't know what happened to her. They CLEARLY knew what happened to our dog! The vet then explained how they stapled the wound closed (without shaving it!) and called us. I also suspect they sedated our dog, because of how lethargic she was, and they told us they didn't. If they would have just been honest and told us what happened I would be ok with it all, accidents do happen. What I am most upset about is that they tried to blame us for an injury that clearly happened while our dog was in their care. They then lied about and/or hid what really happened to our dog. read more

I just dropped off, Max, for a bath and haircut. All the groomers know Max and are so personable and greet him to soothe his anxiety. We have requested Sierra and have been using her for close to two years. She is so loving, patient and caring with Max and her grooming skills are top notch!! Max is always so excited to see Sierra!! He jumps and puts his front legs around her waist and gives her a big hug!! You won't be disappointed if you go to the Costa Mesa store and use their grooming services. Until he passed we took our beautiful collie, Legend to be pampered by the amazing Elaine in the Grooming Salon for about five years. He was a very very difficult patient and impossible for us to groom but Elaine always managed to make him look regal. Yesterday I was running an hour late because of work to my appointment with Elaine for my two golden retrievers to be bathed and lightly groomed. She assured me that she could finish both even though I suggested that I could take one back home because of my tardiness. When my wife picked them up and then brought them home they looked amazing. Tiger Lilly was beautifully groomed, smelled heavenly and was so soft. Indiana Jones had a magical sheen and as soft as cashmere. Even though both of them thought they were going on a walk when I put them in the car and both were quite perturbed when I left them at Petsmart, I could swear both of them had big smiles when they walked through our front door. Believe it or not Petsmart groomers are the top OC Groomers. I've wasted my money at the fancier, groomers: Paws Spa, CDM groomer, Happy Pet, Dog Spa, Dutch Touch Grooming, French Connection, and various mobile groomers. Melissa Pulido is the ONLY person who gets to groom "the boys" as their affectionately now known at Petsmart groomers. The grooming staff is impeccable with their work and customer service. My dogs (big, fluffy, white goldens) stay cleaner longer and smell like heaven, but not perfumey like some of those gross coverup sprays. Melissa is extra special to us. She cares for our boys like their her own (she's even babysat for them as a result of our grooming relationship.). I can't recommend her enough!! read more

Came here to get my dog groomed and had a great experience. Floopy (the dog) hates getting groomed but he didn't seem as scared as he normally does. The guy that took care of us was named Miguel. Super sweet guy, very thorough and explained the various types of grooming options as well as shampoos which are either medicated, treatments or just the standard "good smell" shampoos and conditioners. I normally take him to Petco but Petsmart has much better hours and everyone here was super friendly.. read more

We have been taking our dog here for about a year or so to get groomed. The last time we took him here they cut him on his belly. They didn't let me know so I paid and went home. Later my husband found the cut. We have had a hard time with our dog scratching it. We have now had to take him to the vet for a skin infection. Will never take him back here again! read more

Great selections of items, hate the parking lot though. Theres always people texting and either driving 30 mph through the parkinglot or moving at a glacial pace.. Either the way they dont see you. The only time i had a bad experience here is when i asked for them to check the balance on a gift card i received as a gift from a friend... The girl at the register said she couldnt get the balance for me and told me i should ask the person that gave it to me. I looked on the back of the card, it says to check balance hand to an employee at any location or go through the automated service.. I went out to my car and went through the motions and got my balance. Perhaps seasoned staff can train the new employees how to do basic tasks on a register lol i just wanted to spend my gift card amount on dog and get out and go home. read more

The girl who worked here, unlike their competitor (ahem, Petco), knew what she was talking about. I went to PetSmart to buy goldfish and a tank, as a brand new fish owner, and she knew the answer to every question. They also have a much better selection of fish than Petco. Petco is understaffed and doesn't educate their employees, while Petsmart is the exact opposite. Thank god for capitalism because companies like Petco would have no incentive to change their policies and maybe train their employees in pet care, which is the service they claim to offer. read more

Came here today for some puppy stuff. Excellent customer service the minute I walked in! You can bring your dog in so it can get a little crazy with all the butt smelling, but it is fun! I always go to this petsmart mainly because it is really close to where I live. I recently got a toy maltese/poodle (Maltipoo). It was my first time owning a pet, so i decided to stop by petsmart after purchasing my puppy to get all the supplies needed before bringing her home. We stopped by the vet first (in petsmart) for a quick check up and they were kind enough to see us last minute and just examine to make sure our puppy is healthy. Afterwards, the sales associate walked around the store with us to help us get everything we need, from shampoo, to food, bedding, etc. They taught us how to care for a baby puppy and taught us what we need to know (seeing as we are first time parents :) ) I even got a starter kit for puppies, and that gave me coupons for her grooming, her food, etc. We take our puppy to a different vet now because it is cheaper and more worth it. But we ALWAYS take our puppy to petsmart for grooming service. Ellie, our dog, loves it there and people are very caring of our pets. read more

Was in last night at 5:30 to pick up food for our puppy. Thought I would check the prices in the grooming department. Up until now, we have bathed our 11 month old lab ourselves. Hannah, was very helpful and friendly, and explained the pricing. She also assured me that our puppy, who does not love being bathed, would be fine. Then she said, "you can bring her in tonight and I can bathe her." We had our pup back to Hannah within a half hour! Hannah did a beautiful job! Our girl is shiny clean, smells great and was treated with kindness. We will be requesting Hannah next time too! read more
