Reasonable example of a giant chain pet store. I keep reptiles, and the folks there aren't really knowledgeable about them. They do stock the food I need, so I don't write them off entirely. If there were a locally-owned alternative or a shop with more attentive customer service, I'd definitely choose that instead. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOGS TO BE GROOMED HERE! I witnessed one of the groomers being OVERLY rough with a dog while the young girl behind the counter was trying to help me with a mouthful of food and some type of cookie in her hand. Did she really expect me to hand her my dog with those greasy fingers? After she asked me a bunch of stupid questions, I said "I'm outta here!" and proceeded to walk out. When I complained to the Manager, he sat there looking at me like a deer the headlights. He responded by asking me if I got the names of the girls. Ummm...okay...why don't you walk your lazy butt back there and see who the girls are? They were the only two girls in the grooming area. Why aren't these groomers monitored by Management to make sure they aren't mistreating animals? I wouldn't trust my animal with these people and you shouldn't either. read more

PetSmart in La Quinta has an inept employee named Lyle. I think he's supposed to be an assistant manager but he's in over his head even for this job. We left the store after paying for our purchase, and discovered the clerk failed to bag all we paid for. Returned promptly back to the store where we related the shortage We were told we had to speak to Lyle. He was the reason for the shortage! As we were being checked out, he came up and interrupted the clerk in the middle of our transaction which is not only rude to the customer but very un-manager like! Was this guy ever trained because he has no common sense! He handled our return to the store very ungraciously and indifferent. We have been regular customers of this PetSmart for 11 years buying food for 3 indoor cats, and 7 feral cats. I believe it's time to switch to Petco. read more

Lisa is an excellent trainer that cares about her pet parents. I've taken my puppy to Petsmart for Puppy and Intermediate training. We have all seen positive changes in Madison. She's gone from a shy, hiding behind the chairs puppy, to eating treats right out of Lisa's hand and greeting the other dogs. She really takes the time to go over the steps to train the dog. They are also really helpful with online returns. I've never had an issue returning any items. read more

This PetSmart is by far the best stocked in the valley. Everything you need for your pets and more. If for any reason its not in the store they will order it and have it delivered straight to your door! Need more training on all breeds. When a owner is young and might not know the grooming language or how a certain breeds hair grows, we expect the groomer to be at least somewhat knowledgeable. Just don't ask to sign paper for shave hair and how hair grows back. Explain what you are going to do totally to see if that is what customer wants. Won't be going back! No issues other than the fact that I don't think the employees are very knowledgeable. The dude that attempted to help me out really had no idea what he was talking about. My family and I went into this store looking for a few aquarium items to complete our new tank, as well as one more fish. We walked in and went right to the fish section, we have 4 employees walk right past is as we waited for help with the fish, one employee came over and I began asking a few questions and she was extremely rude and when I asked her if we could get a fish she WALKED AWAY, we then went to the front to have help called and NO ONE SHOWED UP, we sat there for over 10 minutes waiting. It was my first time taking my puppy to Petsmart and met with Persia who gave me so much information about the grooming process and educated me on how to keep my dog from being hair tangled. She was so caring about my pup's upkeep and showed the proper way of brushing him to keep his hair long and healthy. She even showed me her tools to use for taking knots out. I also love the way she held my fur baby and how she instantly comforted him because he was so nervous and scared. I'm definitely coming back to her because I finally found a groomer that is knowledgeable and will take time to work with my pup, and at the same time made him look just beautiful. read more

Ive gone to this Pet Smart for a few years. LAst night was the worst experience ever. First it took 4 1/2 hours to get my dog. Well after they closed. Worst haircut ever and noticed cuts on my girl. Nicole did the cut and couldn't even finish it. after i got out of there at 9:30 at night the girl at the counter told me that the leash that I brought her in with was theirs. Never going back again. If you are in need of a dog groomer, go to Petco in North Indio. I have had nothing but horrible experiences taking my dog here. The first time they cut my dogs nipple and casually told me to just put some Neosporin on it without taking responsibility for causing bodily injury to my pet, then they proceeded to charge me extra for her hair cut. The only reason I went back here was because at the time they were the only groomer around. My dog becomes stressed and erratic everytime we come to this location, I don't know how they are treating the animals, while they are grooming them, but my dog never behaves this way now that we take her to Petco. The last time we took her here my dog came out looking like a baby grinch. So in other words spare yourself the headache and extra $20, because God forbid your dog cries after they cut her with a pair of sheers, and just go to Petco. read more

I will never be taking my pup here again. We have been using the PetSmart for over a year now and not only have they cut my dog (with no offer of a discount or even an apology!) but the customer service is beyond atrocious. Every time I call, I get hung up on or put on hold for over 5 minutes. I went in the other day with a scheduled appointment for which they told me I was an hour early, but I was not and they refused to see me until the "appointment time." Not only that but they had the audacity to tell me that it was MY fault. Not sure what kind of people they have working there but I would NOT trust them with your animals. Even the store manager was a joke, he didn't even address my complaints, he simply just said "Ok, I'll chat with the girls." I mean honestly, what kind of business are they running? If you love your dog as much as I do, I would think twice & take your dog to Petco. read more

Friendly, helpful employees. And they have everything you need! Definitely our place to shop. Petsmart also sponsors vans that transport over crowded shelter animals to less crowded shelters. They have a better chance of being adopted out that way. Please adopt from a shelter or rescue, and don't buy animals from breeders. There are over 10,000 animals killed in shelters daily, because they weren't adopted. And please spay and neuter. All animals deserve love! read more

They always make you wait for the groomer to check you in. However, when the groomer is 15 minutes late; they don't say anything to the client holding their nervous dog. I took my two small dogs here for full grooming twice. Shame on me for returning the second time! First time the hair cuts were nice, however my male dog was cut on his anus when the hair was shaved. He licked the entire area raw and had to go to the vet for prescriptions and be coned for a month to clear it up. Second time, my husband took them. Our appt was before the store opened (unknown to us) and they did not tell us there was a doorbell to ring to get them to open the door. Hubby left and returned an hour later when the store opened. They do have a doorbell with a very small sign off to the side of the store front that you would never see or pay attention to if you hadn't been told first. It was summer and I wanted a short summer cut, which he told them. They should him a totally matted piece of fake fur to show the cut lengths and he picked the shortest. When I came to pick the dogs up a few hours later they had practically been shaved all the way down. There was nothing I could do. But when they brought out my little Maltese she could not use her one of her back legs. I just about blew up. I spoke with the manager who said they'd pay for her to go to the vet, which she did. He also told me they tell people who ask for the shortest cuts that they don't recommend that because it's not really good for the dogs! WTF? The groomer did NOT say anything to my husband about his choice. As if that wasn't bad enough, the groomer nicked my male dogs butt again and sent him back to licking it raw. More meds and another month in a cone! My maltese had a slipped stiffle and partially recovered but occasionally limps on that leg. It happens from jumping - like off a table. They did eventually pay for her vet visit, but only after I was billed and took the bill to the manager. My only positive in this is that the manager, Steve, was very apologetic and stepped up to try to make it as right as he could. I'll give him credit for that. But I will never return there for any grooming services. read more

I've generally been pretty happy with PetSmart grooming at this location and others but today when dropping off my dog I had a bad feeling right off the bat when the groomer, Robert, didn't even blink and immediately went to the "shave example" chart saying she was too matted so he was going to have to shave her down. In my opinion, he was a bit quick with that so I felt like he was just being lazy and using it as an excuse to get out of doing a proper grooming. I grudgingly said "fine" and then he proceeded to fumble with the computer for several minutes, then move to the other computer to do something. Finally, he printed a page for me to sign and said that he was also going to charge me a dematting charge. I was already not "feeling" this guy so the charge was enough, and I told him to forget it. Sometimes I've been told that they would need to shave down my dog but I've NEVER been charged for dematting in dozens of visits to PetSmart​ locations and my dog has been far more matted than she was today. (She only had some minor matting on her hind legs.) And anyway, if he was going to dematt her then why would she need to be shaved? I'm really bummed out because I have never had an issue with PetSmart before today and the price was reasonable and the location convenient. The manager offered to comp the grooming but there is no way on​ earth that I am going to leave my dog in a situation where I'm not feeling anything but 100% A-OK. read more

I think it's funny that people complain about the "quality" of customer service from the associates then say "I'm going to take my service to Petco!" Ha! But have they actually been to a Petco? Probably not because it's straight up HOOD. I've been to almost all of them in the valley and the worst one of all is the PD one. First they are way more expensive and their service is beyond terrible. This store is under new management as of last year, the overall feeling is much better then it was with the previous store manager.
