Worse customer service ever! I visited the petsmart at the alamo ranch area. Waited app. 20 min. to have someone to help me at the store. the groomers seemed inexperienced and careless. i took my dog over (cocker spaniel) and they told me she was too matted and that i needed to take her to a vet to shave her. Long story short, after wasting my time driving to the vet( there was a 3 hr. wait) i returned to the store and bough a clipper and groomed her myself. no big deal, it took me ~15 min. and she was done. never understood how complicated could it been. We usually take our pets to get groomed at the 151 location. Very helpful and nice people there. But here, wow, so so rude. Decided to try them out and our pet came back nothing as we requested and she had nicks all over her. The girl working on her was very rude and smelled like alcohol. I would definitely not recommend anyone bring their pet to this grooming location. read more

I tried calling all day to cancel an appointment and I was on hold for over 25 minutes before finally hanging up. Definitely not a good way to run their business. Worst PetSmart grooming salon I've ever had the displeasure of using! After booking an appointment at 8am and arriving on time.. there was a long line outside of salon. So I wait in line for 18 minutes and right when I was next to be called in a groomer comes out and says, "Your appointment was at 8am so unfortunately we will not be able to take you dog for toasts appointment." (A simple phone call would have been nice and helpful if this was the case or telling me when I first got in line at 8am) Regardless of the fact I was on time and waiting in line which I explained.. it didn't matter. Also they do not allow dogs to stay longer than 2 hours after dropped off due older age. In this event, non stop calls are received complaining your dog is still at their facility. What are hard working people does to do working at a 8-5 job? I have used this place 2-3 times strictly because it's the closest groomer's from my residence and due to "Everything"; they have not followed specific instruction requests, cancel on you when you are next to be called in regardless if you are on time, have to wait in line, and then hound you if your baby is left longer than they prefer. They are inconsiderate and disregard the fact they have wasted your valuable time. Unsatisfactory is what to expect at best here! I will never go back here and would rather drive a farther distance to ANY other grooming salon and I suggest you do the same!! read more

I have been a loyal customer for the past 8 years, but that ends today. Warning to all...when getting your dog groomed at Petsmart, make sure the groomer completely understands what is wanted done. Apparently Petsmart holds their employees to a low standard because this employee (won't even call her a groomer) can't read, follow directions, or even know what an Australian Shepherd is supposed to look like. Today my dog walked in looking like an Australian Shepherd but walked out looking like an overgrown rat. Clearly I should have read some of these reviews before booking boarding for my cat at this location. But I didn't. That mistake has now cost me to miss a trip out of state for a family member's funeral. I had called this specific PetSmart and talked to their Pet Hotel staff regarding my cat prior to booking. I was concerned that they wouldn't be willing to board my cat due to him being old and needing medication. I talked to the staff, told them about his condition and age, and was told that it was all fine! So I booked a stay. The morning that I was supposed to leave I went to PetSmart with my kitty to drop him off, and I was told that they cannot take him. I explained to the lady that I had called beforehand and talked to them about it and that I was told that his age/condition/medication would not be a problem. She suggested I could take him to a veterinary hospital that was nearby. I tried making other arrangements after we were turned away at PetSmart, but it was too late at that point for me to find another place for him to stay where he could get the medical help that he needs. I ended having to stay at home to care for him, missing the funeral. read more

Petsmart sure does t mind wasting other people's time. I made an online grooming appointment Trent days in advance. Flight traffic to get there to drop off my dog, waited in line almost 30 minutes to get him checked in just to be told that due to his age he had to have an "express cut" and they would not be able to provide that service today. What was the point in making an appt? It can't be that difficult to program the website to ask for pets age or at least have messaging stating there are age restrictions. The grooming salon has rules (corporate rules) that no dog with any kind of heart disease cannot be groomed or boarded there. They also have a rule that if a pet is up to date on vaccinations, but got their yearly boosters that day, they can't be groomed or boarded- not even for a 10 minute nail trimming visit. I've never found anybody there who can explain the rationale for these rules. Apart from that, they cut my dog so badly that he needed stitches. read more

Took our Corgi Winston here for a nail trim, and we were super pleased with the salon! He's a very high energy people person dog & the groomers didn't mind that all. We were a bit nervous to see how he'd react, but he did just fine getting them trimmed. I loved being able to watch through the glass! Definitely bringing him here again. read more

"Just when I think that I'm out, they pull me back in!" How am I supposed to shoot down every notion of a new kitten, to go along with the two cats and two dogs that I already have, from my 12 year old daughter if my wife insists on supporting that notion? As most of you Dad's already know, every 9-13 year old girl wants to be a Veterinarian when she grows up and has to fawn over every little creature she comes across. I have successfully shot down the inclinations towards gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, turtles, goldfish, Border Collie's, and kittens whenever they are afforded but this time I have been defeated. Imagine my surprise when on the way home from the airport my wife requested a stop at this Petsmart to view the kitten that we would be adopting for my daughter. Now I was aware of the interstate conversations regarding this possibility but I was completely unaware that a decision had already been made concerning it without consulting my approval. I guess that goes to show who has the power in my household. Again you Dad's and husbands are fully aware of this already. Well at least those of you who still participate actively and happily in both regards. Petsmart offers up plenty of great kittens and cats for adoption that are fully spayed or neutered (I hate that word!) as well as been given their first series of shots. Not bad for the price. Also when you come in for goods and toys for the pets you can bring your well mannered dogs with you to sniff the asses of all of the other dogs. Be forewarned this is San Antonio so most of the dogs will be pit bulls so keep the little dogs on a tight leash. I guess it's time to break in a new kitty. read more

We've had our second horrible experience with the grooming department. Here. Save your time and money and have your pups taken somewhere else. They done smell clean, they don't look clean and they nicked the hell out of my dog and I had to take her to a doggy hospital and spent about 1k having her stitched. I am not one to complain, but I scheduled an appointment for my dog to get groomed. Once I got there I waited 30 minutes just for them to tell me that they could not see him and the recommended taking him to the vet. I have always taken him to Petco and decided to go to PetSmart but they just showed me why I stopped taking him there. I am very disappointed. read more

I brought in my dog today and when she "jerked her head" the groomer negligently cut her ear deeply, causing her to bleed all over the place. In shock, my dog defecated and they left it on her and all over her tail, just putting her in a kennel. This was my dog's first time being groomed here and will absolutely be the last. The trauma caused by this blatant lack of awareness will likely lead to a struggle taking my already anxious dog to groomers from now on. I have mixed emotions about this location. Jess was my groomer and was amazing and honestly she's the only reason why I'm going back so she can take care of my fur baby. Wish I could pay with her as well. Wonderful personality and customer service. Now the front part of the store is a different story. My total was $71.45 and I wanted to put $60 on my card and pay the $11.45 in cash. I thought this would be an easy transaction until I gave the cashier (community cashier - 701183) $20.45 and she pulled out her phone to see how much change i was to receive. Even when using the calculator she gave me $8.55 change. When I advised her the change should be $9.00, she disputed that and advised she gave me the correct change. She then called another person over and they backed her up that she gave me the correct change. The second person then seemed to get agitated and just told the first cashier to just give me the money. Believe me it was not the concept of the amount of change because it will not make or break me, it was the principal that there was no basic math skills and then to argue with a customer over less than $0.50 is crazy plus they were not using their active listening skills. The customer service at the front end of the store is horrific and I would be going to a different location if it weren't for my groomer Jess and the rest of the grooming staff who were simply amazing. read more

I brought my pups in... My lab got the de-shedding package and a bath and my terroir got a bath with specialty shampoo. Joe was phenomenal with my pups! He told me to request him next time which I totally would except we are moving cross country (which is why we brought the dogs in). My dog has been to grooming here multiple times in the past few years. She has also been to doggie day camp here as well. I have not had any issues in grooming or at day camp. My dog is extremely friendly to everyone, so she has no fear towards anyone. I usually stay close by the area when my dog is in grooming and am usually there before she is ready to be picked up. If my dog's behavior were to change or she becomes fearful, it would definitely give me a red flag. Another than that I usually buy her treats here or collars when she needs a new one. read more

Definitely wouldn't recommend coming here for grooming your dog. My dog has gotten groomed before and never had any issues. and this one time my dog was super upset the moment I picked him up. I have a yorkie and he needed a trim and first this first, this lady trimmed it wayyyy to short!! I went to go check on him to make sure they weren't hurting him and next thing I see is my dog trying to bite the groomer because they were being too rough with him and knowing my dog he NEVER bites and is the sweetest person ever. But if you hurt him he will bite in his defense. And I had asked the lady how much longer and she told me that " He is taking a break because he tried the bite and was being very difficult and that SHE WILL CALL ME" but after 4 hours of waiting? This review is for the grooming service this location offers. We adopted our dog through them when they had a rescue center come to do an event there in their parking lot in late 2014. We have had him for a while, and decided it was time for him to get groomed. At the time he was a 13 pound Brussels mix! I got a call within the hour from the groomers saying he was difficult. They said that he sat in the back of the kennel, and refused to come out. My dog had peed and had a bowel movement in the kennel as well. I asked if he was growling, barking, or attempted to bite them. They said he didn't. One groomer tried cradling him, and was softly petting him. He was too nervous and just hunkered down. Thinking that we would not be able to ever groom him we decided to try another PetSmart. THAT PetSmart had said there is no reason why the groomers would have told us they couldn't handle him. Most of them are able to/trained to handle all kinds of dogs. (I mean obviously not ones that are going to bite and bark viciously at them.) THEY were able to handle my 13 pound nervous dog! read more

I brought my dog here to get groomed. Since he's a short nose breed I always have to call to schedule an appointment. Sometimes they get me in the next and sometimes they leave me on hold long enough for the phone to ring again and having them answering. I have only been able to take him there once and I felt like they did a poor job. He didn't smell like he had just showered. His nails were a bit long still (he has black nails so I know people are scared to cut them) they didn't brush his fur so he was shedding a lot. read more

This is the petsmart I would go to to get my dogs nails trimmed all the time. I would just drop her off, then walk around the store and pick her up after 10 minutes. Today, I decided to stay in the little room and watch and what I witnessed was HORRIFIC. The girl who was going to do her nails grunted when she found out she was going to do a nail trim. She then wrapped a leash around my dogs neck and started pulling her. My dog was not walking because she was scared so the lady started dragging her by her NECK. I told her to please just pick her up. Then while they were doing her nails, my dog got very scared and anxious and was kind of squirming her legs. The lady was aggressively pulling my dogs leg so that she can cuts the nails while my dog was terrified. Oh and btw my dog had surgery on that leg...she's very delicate. I had to cancel the appointment in the middle of it cause I couldn't handle seeing my dog in terror anymore. I bought nail clippers and did it my self and my dog was COMPLETELY calm. This review is only based off my experience with the Pets Hotel. I boarded my dog here during the holidays and he came back with canine cough despite getting vaccinated for it prior to boarding. He also appeared to have lost a few pounds. The facility seems like a petri dish for germs. Often times you see dogs in the play area relieve themselves on the floors and the workers just mop up after them. The website describes the facility to have "relief rooms treated with pheromones" which to me sounds the dogs aren't taken outside often or at all. Considering its location is in a busy shopping strip, dogs probably aren't taken outside at all. read more

I had the worst customer service experience at this Petsmart location Culebra/1604. The check-out person named Becka was extremely rude and kept rolling her eyes at me. I was being nice but I get the impression that she thinks she's too good for her position. She definitely is not good for business. I refuse to go to this location...yes that's how bad my experience was. She was even rude to the customer in front of me too. Not sure if she was having a bad day. But guess what.. you just lost a customer! I will share this experience with family and friends to avoid them feeling not welcomed. Maybe its the management at this location. I've been to other PetSmart locations and they are sweet and super nice! Becka doesn't deserve to work with customers and I can only imagine how she will treat my babies (chihuahuas). This is for KRYSTAL who works at the PetHotel and who I spoke with 3 times over a weeks time. You did NOT inform me that my dog needed a 48 hr period after vaccination before I could board her there. This is my first time ever boarding an animal and I relied on you all to direct me in the right direction. I even called today and moved up my dog's drop off day from tomorrow to today. I even informed them (it was not Krystal I spoke to today but a completely different person) I was calling from the vets and getting her vaccines updated to drop her off. I was told there was no issue and to bring the paperwork the vet gives me to the hotel when I drop her. When I get there I'm told I can't board her. To add insult to injury they even called Krystal who luckily was not there at the time I was and asked if she had told me about the 48 hr period. No surprise there when she said she had told me. You flat out lied. You did not tell me. Now I have to board her at a vet because 48 hrs from now I will be out of state. Trust in the fact that I will be back down there to speak to you face to face Krystal. _____edit Went back to Petsmart today and Krystal was there. She stands by her statement that she informed my mother and I about the vaccination time period when in fact she did not. Had I known why on earth would I have tried to bring my dog in knowing they wouldn't take her? I saw it's listed on the website which I should have looked at before hand instead of just walking in and expecting them to give me the proper info. Obviously I was wrong. She gave a free night and took my dog and placed her in a special area since it hasn't been 48 hrs since her vaccinations. When I brought my dog in (I had to go home and come back since I left her at the house) I walked in and all the hotel associates where standing talking. I would bet my life it was about us. They didn't see me walk in and one of the girls was saying "well she should have known especially if they took the dog to banfield and that's not our problem." When they saw I was there they all just walked off. It is what it is. My dog is boarded there and Krystal did not fess up that she made a mistake. Do NOT get your dog groomed here. Absolute worst salon I've ever been to. The girls are all very rude.... I've brought my dog in and had the worker tell the other girls "uh I'm not taking this one I have too many". That situation has actually happened twice to me and I had an appointment, I was not a walk in! My dogs hair is extremely uneven and is not even trimmed on his face. Before I dropped my dog off, there was another owner complaining because their dog was very unevenly cut. So that was a warning sign... So disappointed and feel bad for my dog read more

I've had previously good experience with the Alamo Ranch PetSmart Hotel. However, the most recent experience has me cautious going forward in any potential future visit. My AKC Registered Vizsla resided at the hotel for a week. After picking him up on a Sunday, it was apparent his head had an abrasion and missing hair. If not for my curiosity, no one on the staff would've brought this to my attention. They expressed his energy and movement from larger to smaller cage caused the injury. Odd, considering, he sleeps at home in a cage and never ever jumps with excitement inside his cage to cause damage to himself. It's been nearly two weeks, and his hair has not returned. I'm very disappointed but will reconsider any future visits. In addition to not knowing if he had a leash, providing wrong, then right leash, and never getting toys back after the stay(s). Staff, in the past, have been good. I just expect more proactive communication (prior to arriving to pick up the dog) in any event that has significant effect on a client's pet. read more

In general I'm quite satisfied with this PetSmart location. I took a beginning dog training class, and the instructor was great (if perhaps a bit less than the experienced dog whisperer I might have dreamed of). What left a terrible taste in my mouth was dealing with the management of the store. By the fifth of the six class sessions, it was clear to me and the trainer that training my particular dog in the store environment would not work. He's a rescue dog who was too terrified to learn when in the store. The trainer kindly informed me that I was welcome to take the class again within six months or get a refund for the class fee. When I returned with my paperwork to get the refund (so I could apply the fee to having a trainer work individually with my dog in my home), the manager refused to back up the commitment made by his employee. He was willing to refund only a pro-rated amount of the fee for the last two classes. Yes, the trainer's promise was not in keeping with PetSmart corporate policy, but it's sad to see a retailer so unaware of how to manage for good customer service. You empower your frontline employees to make customer service calls, you back your employees up in the calls they make, and, if a call was in error (and isn't earth-shattering), you let it go and coach the employee for future situations. Now, over a little $70 conflict, the store manager has lost a customer who would have been buying dog food and other supplies every month for years. So short sighted. read more

This is the second time we went to get my dog grooming service the first time my dog was 4 months old a lab mix they did not did a good job that was a free bath for first time customers our dog stinks especially the head part. After that i gove them benefit of the doubt maybe try different person next time today we did paid $31 for grooming they were not able to do his nails then give them note to wash the head part as well still stinks. Another worker tried to help because she noticed the way he was speaking to me. When I responded to the other worker the young man interrupted me and said "uh, you need to talk to me."
