This store is amazing! They are so friendly and willing to answer any questions! Managers, Juliet and Amber are extremely helpful and cover anything from toys, to behavior tips, to pet hotel info. Heather in the PetsHotel was great! So helpful for our first day taking our rescue in with separation anxiety. She gave us updates and let us know she'd work with him and other dogs and he's already doing better in less than a week! We had a training session with Kevin and he is great! He's calm and reassuring and has such a nice way with people and pets! We're definitely coming back to work with him in a class and more trainings! Overall I am so happy to have found the store for all of our pet needs and will enjoy continuing to come here. I've never experienced another pet store like it. read more

I was impressed with the quality animal care, here. I believe it was Jessica who took her time to introduce me to each one of the mice they had, and was pleased to hear how much she knew about their temperaments. It's clear she's spent some time with them and knew a bit about their history at the store (all individual because one was a bully). This says a lot! They only had 5 to choose from, however, I like that they care for their critters instead of just "getting a new shipment of inventory" the way other stores do. I want all animals to be well-cared for! I didn't look around a whole lot more than that, but store didn't seem notably disorganized or anything. I had my dog at the pets hotel for a week. I called everyday and they were polite. I paid extra for a bath before I pick him up and my dog smelled so bad. I know my dogs furr when he gets grooming. They sprayed some on his body to avoid smell, but didn't do a good job. In this case, it makes me doubt all the other staff they said they did. I gave my dog a nice bath when we got home and he looked fresh. read more

For the pet hotel, I bring my dog in every week for day camp, the staff know nearly all the dogs by name, there is always water in the playroom, my dog loves coming here she can't wait to see her friends in camp, if you have questions honestly ask the staff their all are super friendly and more than willing to help or answer questions. I recommend bring puppys and such here to get socialized with other dogs for a healthy upbringing read more

As a frequent visitor to this location, I'm still happy they finally came to south san jose. I made a purchase of some medicine for my fish earlier in the week. I got home and noticed one of the boxes were empty. I waited until the weekend to go back to the store. I totally expected them to not believe the box was empty when I got home. Went in to put my dog in for dog boarding a while back. They did not accept her as she was "not" fully vaccinated because she had booster shots. The manager informed us that it said on the website that booster shots were not allowed, but no where it said that. She also acted as if it were her pet hotel and not PetSmarts. The manager was extremely rude to me when I asked about other boarding places and when she saw that my dog was a Pit Bull mix. Without telling us after we confirmed everything was ok was the worst part. (I do have to say that the associates in there were very kind before and after the managers treatment towards us) With a day left before our trip we took our dog down the road to the VCA where they took her in. They were even surprised by the unprofessionalism of the manager. Fast forward a couple weeks we take her to the PetSmart hotel in Fremont. There were no problems and we informed them of our problem before. The employees at that PetSmart told us they take in dogs all the time with booster shots since they are supposed to. If you live in Almaden and need to board your dog do not take them here. Awful customer service and rude manager. You're better off taking your animal to the VCA for boarding, it's only a couple bucks more. read more

Although that i live north of SJ i really like sending my babies ( bulldog & pomeranian) to this petsmart! So handy to have a pethotel and also a pet hospital. I bought the wellness plan for both my babies and it comes such in handy!! YOU SAVE SO MUCH $$$$$$ The only -1 would be the staff are not clear on medications for the dog, when you do ask questions they aren't really specific and sure about certain things. the DR's call are so fast i usually have to make them repeat what they say. haha read more

Not-so-great customer service. In the hope of taking care of a few errands in just one trip, we were let down by the customer service in this store. This isn't exactly the closest for us, so it was really disappointing when we arrived to pick up our dog from and she wasn't ready. Yes; we called ahead of time so we could figure out when to be in the area since we were on a tight schedule. They hadn't released her when they said, and I wasn't even able to talk to them, let alone ask when she WOULD be ready because there was a lady in front of me in-line who was also having issues. She only needed shots; so we didn't understand why they had to drag it out longer than they already had (9am to- well was supposed to be 3:30 but more like 4:30). Lastly, they seemed short-staffed behind the desk, with one person left to answer calls on top of other things, including customer service, which may have led to my bad experience in the first place. Bottom line, this location isn't very efficiently run. The service might be satisfactory but I didn't appreciate making a pretty far trek for nothing because they didn't stick to their word, nor not being able to speak to an associate about the situation before I had to leave. If it all didn't sum up to more than too much to deal with, my dog came back with dirty paws that tracked throughout the house, and she was thirsty as if she didn't get water while she was there. Above all, I hope they clean up their act so that your experience may be better than mine. read more

This review is focused mainly on the service we had in this store. We had recently adopted a dog and went in to Petsmart to get food, gate etc. Merle, one of the managers was AWESOME - no other word to describe it; she gave us lots of useful advice, was really knowledgeable about dogs in general, and helped us with a lot of information we didn't know. She gave us food recommendations, helped us understand some of the habits our dog may have, and just generally was fantastic. Our Cocker even warmed to her, and she usually takes a while with strangers. Having been to the store in Campbell, where the service is pretty poor, this is now our go to store. I asked for help from an employee and she said she would come back to the aquarium section to assist me after she finished doing something. She did tell me they were backed up. I waited about five minutes and asked for assistance from a second employee. She was clearly in the process of getting an aquarium for someone. She also said she would help me once she finished. What made me upset was the first employee went to the second one in front of me and loudly told her associate that she told me they were backed up and never returned to help me. Short Story: NEVER AGAIN. I will NEVER take my dog to this pet hotel ever again. And you shouldn't either. I should have listened to all the bad reviews, but my mom's coworker highly recommended it to her and she insisted it would be ok. Long Story: Usually my parents watch my dog when my wife and I are out of town or we need to leave him for a day or two. But my cousin was having a desitination wedding and my whole family was going. Even my closest friends that have watched my dog before were going to this wedding. Quickly running out of options, my dad was suggesting that he'll skip going to Hawaii just to watch our dog - our dog is literally his furry grandson. My mom asked her coworkers what they do when they have to have their dogs boarded and one of her coworkers highly recommends THIS specific PetSmart. So I do my research. I love doing research. And I come across all the bad reviews for this PetSmart's pet hotel... but how could that be? My mom's coworker had glowing reviews! So with limited options and time running out, I decided to give it a shot and trust my mom's coworker, rather than "strangers on Yelp." So when you fill out the paperwork to have your dog boarded, there's a section for specific needs ("must use harness when walking", etc.) or additional comments - I end up typing up and printing a seperate attachment. My dog is quirky and its best my dog's caregivers know them ahead of time rather than figure them out on their own. For example, "my dog likes his kibble a little moist so please put a little water on it. When he's done eating his food, he'll be looking to get his Milk Bone dental chew as a treat. If he doesn't get one, he'll stare at you like you're forgetting to do something." Another quirk is that when my dog goes poo, he goes twice - he'll poop once, and then take a couple of steps away, and then squat a second time. Anyways, I put a couple of these things so that they know - throw some water on his food, give him a treat when he eats it, make sure he's done pooing when he goes... seems reasonable right? So they look of the additional attachment and they don't make a big deal out of it so I assume it isn't much to ask for. As I'm checking him in, they're looking him over like a rental car make note of any bald spots or patches of missing hair or anything and just note he has two spots behind his back heels that are kind of thin of hair because of how he sits/slouches, nothing else seems notable. And then my wife and I leave him for 10 days as we turn the wedding into an extended Hawaiian vacation. My parents come back to CA the day after the wedding and pick up my dog on my behalf and sent me a video of them picking our dog up. My dog is so happy to see my parents and he's practically trying to run out of PetSmart to go home. According to my parents, they just simply picked him up and walked out of the store after paying - they didn't do a final lookover to make sure he wasn't any worse than when we left him with the thin hair behind the heels, they didn't tell my parents how his individual playtime that we schedule with the other dogs were, they didn't tell them if he ate all his for or give back any excess food/treats (which I had to individually pack). My parents said right when our dog got outside of PetSmart he had to go poo right away - like as if he'd been holding it for days. They said that they walked him 6 times that day and each time they walked him he had to poo. He never goes that much. And when they brought him home and put a bowl of water out he drank it like there's no tomorrow. Then they noticed his face and saw on his upper lip he had a rash/bald spot. They began taking pictures and send them to me thinking its ringworm. I'm taking him to the vet to get checked out now that I'm back home. But my dog is lethargic, isn't eating, has diarrhea, and has this rash on his lip - and he was none of those things before we left him at PetSmart. I'm I'm warning you, if you're thinking of having your dog boarded at this PetSmart, don't do it. Now my dad's wishing he didn't go to the wedding and stayed and watched our dog, my mom is wishing she didn't listen to her coworker and suggesting this PetSmart to me, and I'm wishing I just listened to everyone else on Yelp. I'm sure he'll be back to normal after some time, but it sucks that this could have been prevented had I listened. read more

May I just say NEVER EVER USE THIS PETSMART GROOMING SALON. I called the department letting them know I was going to be late and the employee her name was KRISTI said as long as you are no more than 15 minutes late your dog can get seen. I was half a minute late and it had hit 3:46. She refused to see my dog knowing he needed a haircut. I am a nice person but when she denied the service because "I was too late" I lost my cool. So much for putting their customers number 1. Not me but my puppy number 1. No wonder my aunt doesn't go there anymore. I love PetSmart when it comes to Dogs, But when it comes to fish it's a no go. I had got some tropical fish for my tank at Petco and they were happy and healthy. After about a month or two I decided to get a catfish and mollies. After two day the catfish died and as I was taking him out of the tank I noticed he has a parasite. I knew my tank didn't have parasites because I checked daily to make sure I could catch it before it got out of hand. A few days later, a guppy died and a week later I had lost most of my fish to the parasites. They seem to only care about selling fish rather than your tank by warning about new shipments that may be sick and have ammonia burn. Overall I would skip PetSmart for fish and stick to their decorations. Petco and local aquarium shops will be more helpful and look out for the well being of your tank. read more

I only been here for my puppy's vet appointment, never tried their grooming salon before cuz Curtner is closer my house. Luna's regular groomer Andrea has been on maternity leave since September and Luna's October and November appointments with Caidee had been fantastic. My pooch always come home looking and smelling good for a week until her next bath. Unfortunately Caidee seems to no longer be with Petsmart so I decided to just try out a newer name, Erika. That was one of the worse experience I have with the Curtner location. Luna came home looking like they barely did anything on her, there were way too much fur falling out, Ive never gotten so much of her fur on me picking her up. To top it off, she did not smell great, no bow or bandana (I got top pup plus) and they didnt send me a mail notifications until I remembered and gave them a call regarding my pooch's status; turns out she's been ready for 2 hours (I got the mail about a minute after I hung up w them) There were so many things indicate that the salon was not busy that day, the fact that I was able to book an appointment the night before speaks volume and I will patiently wait till Andrea returns to come back to Curtner salon. Thankfully I called Almaden up and they were able to squeeze Luna in for a touch up appointment. I need my girl to look pretty and cleaned up for Christmas and rn her whiskers and the fur around her ears look like the last time she been groomed was a month ago. 5 stars for the fantastic staffs at Banfield and the friendly groomers. read more

Was very disappointed with there doggie day care. First when I walked into the store it smelled awful like pee. Then when I went to pick up my dog. She was sitting in the corner not happy. And she has always enjoyed day care.First they had her in with big dogs that were really rambunctious and way too many in a small room. The person supervising the dogs did not look like she knew what she was doing. And spraying any dog trying to play. Which most of them were ignoring here because she was spraying them every 2 seconds. Bad practice. The individuals that were running the place and monitoring the dogs look like they were just out of high school. With no dog experience. And they will not allow you to tour the facility. They say liability. But I have never had a place that would not allow you to see their facility. What are they hiding? I do not recommend them. There are better places near by with better deals. read more

Getting one star, only because I can't give less. I made reservations over the phone and was told I could fill out the paperwork and show proof of vaccinations in store. It would be helpful to do it before bringing my dog in. I get there and the manager, Josh, is a little busy and a little irritable. I wait for him to finish a customer. He tells me to print the forms online. I told him the lady I spoke to last night said I could get the forms when I come in. He informs me I spoke to a call center, but he'll get me the forms. I then show him the summary page of vaccinations from the adoptions center. Josh responds saying he needs typed proof, not handwritten notes. Ok. So I contact the adoption center and they remind me about the typed report that is also in my file from the vet. It shows the dates of vaccinations. I go back to Josh who informs me it does not contain expiration dates for some of the vaccinations, even claiming that one of the stickers from the serums is expired. Admittedly, "17Jun14" could be interpreted as the 17th of June, 2014. It can also be interpreted at 2017, June 14. Josh did try to call the adoption center to explain what he needed and was unable to speak to anyone. He reconfirmed that he needed the expiration dates, or type of shot to show the vaccinations were indeed annual vaccinations, not 2 or 4 week boosters, even though my dog is not a puppy. They made it so difficult, I decided to look elsewhere and found Rover.com. I am much happier, especially since my dog will not be in a kennel most of the day, and after reading the other review of Josh and another manager covering up an employee being bitten after kicking a kennel, I am glad things didnt work out with PetHotels/Petsmart. read more

My pet hamster was ill and finding a vet for a hamster was a challenge. Right off the bat I was enamored by the service! From the time I made the appointment, arrived at the appointment, and the during the appointment I was truly satisfied. I know my pet hamster, whose name is Buster, is in good care because I can see the affinity that these veterinarians and their staff have for these animals. They answer all questions and concerns, and they let you pay half cash and half card which came in handy; my hamster got sick spur of the moment and I had to go to my piggy bank; so the patience and the humor that the staff had with that made me feel comfortable with them. I took my dog for grooming on a Sunday morning. I asked for the "same trim/shave as last time" for a Yorkie cut. These girls in the grooming salon were not at all warm and fuzzy. I am used to people going nuts about my dog because he is so cute but there was not a single grin, nothing. The PetSmart on Curtner is much friendlier and I will wait for an appointment there before I bring my prince to this PetSmart. I wasn't even happy with the grooming. read more

I was so excited to have a pets hotel where my dog could go play like he did when we lived in SoCal. I went in this weekend to drop him off for the day only to have the hotel manager, Josh, inform me that he could tell just by LOOKING at my 35lb. pointed eared waggly tail dog that he either had pit bull or bull terroir in him and so he couldn't participate in doggie day camp even though he has been going to doggie daycamp at a petsmart in SoCal since he was a puppy. He wouldn't even call the petsmart where he had been several times for a reference. How cool is it that the hotel manager at petsmart can tell the breed of a dog better than a vet with years of experience. So sad for petsmart they would have had a very loyal customer who spends more money on her animals than anyone ever should but I will be taking my super sweet dog, kitty and my money elsewhere. I would love to be able to give the Doggy Day Camp a 5 star review, but I can't because of the company's bad store policy which has been made an issue by the GM Josh. According to the GM of this location, a dog is NOT allowed to attend if they even "LOOK like they MIGHT have bully breed in them until it is DNA proven that they don't." I have a Doberman-Aussie-mix that weighs 50 lbs. that IS allowed to attend the day camp, but my Westie-Weenie-Wawa (West Highland White Terrier-Dachshund-Chihuahua) that weighs 22 lbs. is NOT allowed in the day camp because he has 02.0%(!!) American Staffordshire Terrier in him. He actually attended the day camp for a full day & had a great experience with the other dogs there. When I tried to take him back for another day of fun the General Manager Josh said that he looked like he had bully breed in him & could not play in the day camp until DNA tests proved he was otherwise. He also suggested my Doberman-Aussie-Spaniel had bully breed in her AFTER she had spent many a happy day in the camp, admitted by sweet girls behind the counter. I had a DNA test done that proves he is mostly Weenie-Westie with 25% Chihuahua, 2% Amstaff., 0.56% Husky, & 0.54% Sealyham terrier. So let me get this straight Petsmart... My Doberman mix CAN attend, & my Westie-Weenie mix CAN'T attend because he has 2% pit in him?! Really?! Even after he has proven that he can get along with the other dogs there? That makes no sense. These are like modern day Jim Crow laws for dogs. The thing is, we spend a lot of money on doggy day camp because we value it for socialization & rainy day stimulation. Now I am going to be forced to spend my money elsewhere because of some lame policy that probably has to do with insurance more than anything else. The DNA test even stated that anything under 12% wouldn't show up in any characteristics in the dog. Petsmart claims to be proud supporters of adoption. I've donated to shelters through their ATM machines & I've gone to their animal adoption fairs. I adopted both of my dogs being told they were breeds that they were not. My doberman-aussie-spaniel was said to be a "catahoula-lab" while my westie-weenie-wawa was said to be a "border-collie-lab". My "catahoula-lab" only had 4.66% lab in her & my "border-collie-lab" didn't have any lab. Adopting an animal is proving to be too risky with these kinds of policies in place. How are people supposed to go on vacation, socialize their pups, or give them rainy day fun? The hotel will board any breed, but they are in a room by themselves & only get 2 short walks in a day. Ick. If I didn't know better, I'd think the only reason Petsmart hosts these adoption days is to get your animal set up $$ & get some kind of tax right off. They can't actually care about these adopted animals if they refuse to literally care for them. I've spent thousands of dollars at Petsmart over the years & am going to be forced to spend my money elsewhere, because it will be to inconvenient to drive my two different breeds to two different places. I took care of my cat's needs, my tropical fish's needs, & my dogs needs while I dropped my dogs off at Petsmart... simply because I was already in the store. Petco was closer, but I drove the extra distance for the dog hotel. Now I will not have any reason to be in a Petsmart. As far as customer service goes: I've had excellent customer service by every employee. They are the enforcers of store policy, not the creators... so I can't get too angry with them. As far as the treatment of my dog that IS allowed in day camp... awesome. She loves going there & that's why I'm upset that my other dog can't go. If you have a breed of dog that does not LOOK like it has any bully in it, I highly recommend this location & would give it 4 stars. 4 stars instead of 5 because Josh upset myself & my husband by stirring up issues with our dogs that never existed prior to meeting him. read more

TAKE YOUR PET ELSEWHERE!!!! I recently boarded my 2 4yr old Labs at the Pets Hotel while on vacation out of the country. During their stay, Petsmart called to inform me that my male Lab bit an employee, "Non-Agressively ," in the hand and broke skin. When I returned to pick them up, the Hotel manager Josh told me that an employee was reaching for the clip board on my dog's kennel. He said as he reached for it, my dog clamped down on his hand. Josh said the employee pulled his hand back scrapping it against my dogs teeth breaking the skin. He described the injury as minor and medical attention was not needed. Josh said he had to report it to Animal Control. The same day an Animal Control officer came to my house to inform me that my dog had to be quarantined for 10 days. I reviewed the report that Petsmart submitted to Animal Control and it read, "the employee was walking by my dog's kennel and was pushed into it. When he was pushed my dog non-aggresively bit the employee breaking skin." I contacted the store manager, "Vick," who gave me a different version of what happened. He told me that the employee was just walking by and my dog reached out and bit the employee. Vick said the employee had puncture woulds and broken skin but refused to go to the hospital because he was going on vacation the next day. I asked Vick if there was Video of the incident due to the inconstant stories. Vick told me there wasn't and that they do not record the kennel area. The following day, the District Manager called me to inform me they are investigating the bite. He said during their investigation they reviewed store surveillance video and caught part of the incident. THE VIDEO SURVEILLANCE SHOWED THE EMPLOYEE THAT GOT BIT, KICKING MY DOG'S KENNEL BUT DOES NOT SHOW THE BITE. The District manager was extremely helpful. I got a full refund. But still upset...HOW MANY OTHER PETS HAVE RECEIVED THE SAME TREATMENT? Both Managers, Vick and Josh, tried covering up the incident. Needless to say, I won't be going back to Petsmart. read more

I have taken my dog here several times for daycamp but today was a huge disappointment with the intake staff. I had brought a copy of my dog's vaccination records just in case I needed to update them and then since they were from VETCO I was accused of forging them. They made me and my dog wait 20 minutes while they called VETCO to verify the papers and then said they couldn't reach them but it would be ok to leave him just this time. Then they kept inspecting his back several times with a flea comb trying to prove that the hair they removed had fleas which of course it did not. Then they asked me if he was a humper and of course I said no. Then they told me that he was and then proceeded to talk about it together to warn the sitter! I am supposed to get a pawgress report each visit but I seldom do. Each report that I do have has wonderful things said about my dog so the whole process today made me feel singled out and rudely treated. read more

I came today for a daycare for my dog for a few hours, there was this "girl" alone so I was there for 10 minutes expecting someone to take my dog inside, I asked 3 different persons to call someone, the did but not response, and when finally the girl arrived she had this attitude, the rude one you know! oh my gosh! I asked if this happens a lot because I booked a reservation for a week in a suit for my dog and worry that this can happen, she told me in a sarcastic voice yes, what do you want me to do?I did everything! I expected better answer in a nicer and polite tone, Thant didn't be rude and told her don't speak to me like this, I am the customer told her! She decided to turn around and go inside and yell at me to wait until 11 am to someone else pick my dog, and leave me there! Then I asked for the manager, wait for her and she told me that this person is allowed to do that because a lot of persons yell at her, my response was: I can imagine why! So very disappointed with the service, the attitude and the responses, so I decided to cancel my daycare and my reservation for one week there, until this girl be only with dogs (they told me she is good with animals) not wit people I assumed, so they lost a happy frequent costumer, shame on you little girl, learn how to approach a costumer that was waiting you, be nicer or be only with animals, they won't complain because they can't! They just lost another customer, sorry before I was happy but if someone don't treat you well how do I expect that treat my dog! Very, very disappointed!!! read more

I have cared for fish and lots of other pets for nearly 15 years so I have been to many stores and dealt with many associates as well as customers but this Petsmart has one employee that is easily the most disrespectful and unprofessional employee I have ever encountered. I made a Yelp account JUST to warn future customers of this one employee. I had an elderly lady help me with my fish and unfortunately, she dropped the fish I chose on the ground. Upon putting it back in the tank she assured me it was fine even though it clearly lost some scales and was swimming abnormally. Knowing no harm would have come to the fish if I had not chosen it, I decided to purchase the comet goldfish hoping it would recover and receive a better life in my pond but unfortunately, the comet goldfish died on the ride home. When I brought it back, the same lady who dropped the fish started asking me questions such as "what did I do" and "you have left it in the bag for all this time?" I was confused about her questions because I explained while returning it to her that it died before I was even able to get home. Probably because I commented that I did not even open the bag that she had sealed the goldfish in after she asked what I did, she might have felt dumb or thought I was smart-mouthing her so she rolled her eyes and annoyingly agreed to exchange my fish and after a few minutes, she randomly came up to me in line and said this would be my only return on a dead fish THAT was clearly not my fault. What makes matters worse was that she provided her best service ever towards me when she delivered that I could not exchange again if this fish died which I just awkwardly said okay to. If she had any professionalism, she would realize the fish died from her careless actions of dropping it earlier and apologize instead of being annoyed I brought back a dead fish for exchange. If she cared so much about dead fish like she comes off as, maybe there would not be countless dead fish in the same tank I received mine from as well as in the other tanks. Who knows, maybe those fish were dropped on the ground too and just abandoned by future owners... I apologize for speaking poorly about this employee but after her clear annoyance and accusation of me being the irresponsible pet owner and the poor grooming that also charged extra because my dog was too energetic resulted in my 100% disapproval of this Petsmart. I know my dog works fine with groomers because I initially would take her to McCarthy Ranch Petsmart for all her grooms with no issues or extra charges. I would highly recommend driving the extra distance for any other Petsmart or pet competitor because your pet as well as you, a pet owner or future pet owner, deserves better. read more
