PetSmart FAIL! I only gave them one star because Yelp would not allow me to give them less, or they would have a minus five.
We went to the Almaden Plaza PetSmart to purchase Prescription I/D for our ill cat (our vet was temporarily out of the food). We have a legal prescription from a licensed vet for the food. In the store, the prescription food is sitting on a shelf, just like all the other food, so we picked out 5 cans and went to the checkout, where we were told that we wouldn't be able to purchase the food without a registration card from their in-store vet office, which had closed an hour earlier. We presented our valid prescription but were still denied. We left the store sans food, and went home to our ill cat empty handed.
Why, if one needs some kind of registration card from the Banfield Pet Clinic in order to purchase this food, is the food accessible to anyone who enters the store and not in a secure area where it can be controlled by the vet; and why is there no signage by the prescription food explaining this policy? And if this IS their policy, why isn't the vet open the same hours as the store? I am not used to having to force stores to take my money or having them work so hard not to.
Clearly, this is a policy designed to force people to use the in-store vet and a marketing ploy to obtain the information of people needing prescription food. When presented with our valid prescription, the PetSmart employees looked at each other sheepishly and had no clue what to do and said so.
If PetSmart wants to keep such a tight control of their Rx food, then they should put it in a secure location, accessible only to the veterinary staff, or at the very least, have signage explaining the policy prominently displayed near the food.
Apparently, this store has a problem with signage, as there were stacks of cartons of cat litter being advertised as "$2 off", but nowhere was the actual price that one would be saving $2 from in evidence. I was also interested in a scratching post, but once again, there was no price being displayed. The post had a hanging tag but no price sticker. I am not physically able to lift the cat tree to see if there was a price sticker on the bottom, but that would be a stupid place to put the price unless all of your customers are weight-lifters.
I can only surmise from these experiences that PetSmart is not actually a store in the business of selling merchandise, but rather, a museum filled with not-for-sale art instillations.
We will not be returning to ANY PetSmart stores, ever. They obviously don't want our business. Too bad, as my husband and I are part of the foster community and foster kittens in addition to our own numerous pets and spend quite a lot of money on pet supplies. We will make sure that the foster communities across the country know how PetSmart treats its customers. FaceBook is quite the valuable tool.
It is apparent that PetSmart is not concerned with their customers nor those customers' pets, so we will take our business someplace where they are. read more
