Timeliness. Good leadership. That's what you could improve. I'm an early riser and I have a pup with a medical issue. I always set up my pups for a 7 or 8 appointment and I can honestly say I have yet to see timeliness. Today, I had two pups waiting for 10 minutes beyond 7 am and Still had to wait for another 10. While I have loved visiting this PetSmart because it is close and convenient to home I have decided I will no longer be going to the store. I have now purchased three different bags of dog food from the store that have all been unopened, properly checked to make sure that there were no holes in them, and one of them was even opened in front of me in the store so that I could check the bag. Each bag ended up having moths And larvae inside of the dog food in the bag. The bag that was opened in front of me did not however as soon as I got home it did. This seems to have been an ongoing issue with the store because as soon as I called the store to let them know about the situation, they guessed what my situation was before I could even tell them which means that I'm not the only person who is experienced this through the store. Not only is this gross but it's negligent because it shows you how long they actually are keeping these bags of food on the shelf rather than rotating them and getting rid of the old stuff on the shelf. Dropped dog off @9am for scheduled appointment and was told max 3 hours. Didn't receive a call for pickup until 2:30pm. We mainly asked for the ears and feet to be groomed and overall trim. Feet weren't trimmed, ears barely trimmed, layers all over his fur (like the groomer rushed). read more

When I had my two dogs that passed away groomed here a few years ago, I was very happy with the result. I had my 19-month-old rescue dog bathed here today. I asked if they had whitening shampoo and paid an extra $10 for conditioner. It seems like the conditioner worked fine, but they did not seem to use a whitening shampoo and didn't clean my dog's very yellowed hair around her eyes at all. And her head was wet when they gave her back to me. Also, there were two very small pieces of poop stuck to her hair by her bottom (that I had not noticed before) and they didn't even clean that off of her. I feel like my $42 plus $8 tip was a complete waste. I will take my dog to Pet Suites next time, where they did a great job of grooming her before, It's father away, but definitely worth it. I am spittin' mad, and -until now- I have never written an angry review on Yelp. Well, friends, that is about to change. Let's listen to a story about how PetSmart Grooming (PG) went from 4-stars down to 1. I have been a loyal customer at PG since my five-year-old miniature schnauzer was just a baby. Baxter is a sweet dog, and in the past, I was always told he was good at the groomers except for little things here and there that he didn't like. I am a great customer--I am on-time; I am not picky about the cut they give Baxter (meaning I don't complain); and I always tip. A few appointments ago, I brought Baxter home and realized his paw was sore. I figured they cut his nails too short or cut the quick. I never got upset or even said anything to them because I know it can be difficult to groom dogs. However, the next time I went to pick him up from his groomer appointment, I was told he was a bit difficult when it came to using the clippers near his foot. That's when I told them about what happened the last time. Okay--no big deal. When I went to pick up Baxter last night, the groomer (Bri) told me that he didn't like anything. He was frothing at the mouth, he was very stressed, and they may have to "refer" him to a vet to groom him. (The notes also said he nipped. He has never nipped before--never.) She said we could try again one more time if I wanted to, but if it happened again, they would "refer" him. At that point, I was shocked. I was so upset, confused, and surprised; I paid my bill, grabbed Baxter, and left. Last night, I started thinking about what a good customer I've been to them, and then all of a sudden, they want to send him off to somewhere else because of their own doing. I know PetSmart won't read this or even care about one customer. I'm sure they have a policy about dealing with "difficult" dogs. My issue with this whole this is that THEY are the ones who stressed my dog, and their assembly line-style grooming is the problem. The good news is I will never step foot in PetSmart again. I take full responsibility for taking Baxter there in the first place. I never felt right--especially when I knew he hated going there. I will find a groomer who actually cares about animals. read more

Very disappointed! My doggy doesn't like to stay in a kennel. That is why I always book an early appointment in the morning and always on a week day, so it is not busy in the store. I dropped him today at 9.00am and waited to make sure that everything is alright and he is calm. They put him in the kennel then I left. At 9:45am my phone is ringing and the lady told me that my baby doesn't want to leave the cage and he is trying to bite them. Of course I came back for him. When I arrived I asked the lady on the front desok why he was in the kennel for 45 min, when I brought him in time for his appointment at 9 am and the store was super empty. HORRIBLE customer service Went in inquiring cat adoption. The clerk spoke to my husband very dismissively when we were asking what actions needed to be taken to adopt a kitten. Then I went up to her and asked for more information because "the cat people aren't here right now" was not a good enough. Then she completely walks away in the middle of me talking and starts walking to the cat display and as she's walking says "I'll open it but I can't open a cage so". Incredibly rude and the staff never lets you finish talking or asking your question before they try to cram an answer down your throat. It's insane. My roomate and I have just recently gotten back into the aquarium hobby (we also have several other pets). We have mainly dealt recently with the College Drive location because that is closest to where we live. There are no pet shops like Petsmart in the Smithfield area. Our 2nd location most frequented has been on Va Beach Blvd and also we have shopped at the Rosemont location as well as at the Portsmouth Blvd store. I had rescheduled a full bath and grooming appointment for my dog at 8:30 in the morning over the phone. The employee on the phone did NOT properly communicate to me that because my appointment was before opening hours (9 am) that I had to press some door bell for the doors to be opened for me. Fast forward to the day of the appointment, I arrive roughly at 8:20 am at walk up to the door at 8:25. The doors did not open automatically and I was confused. I looked through the windows and noticed employees on the inside so I knocked on the window multiple times, to no avail, the employees did not notice me. So I gave up and wondered if maybe there was a scheduling issue. I decided to leave and come back and did so at 8:48 am. At this point the doors were still locked and I finally noticed the door bell off to the side. I get to the grooming section to check my dog in and the woman at the counter is so snobby and so unsentimental. She said "unfortunately, you're 17 minutes late so we'll have to reschedule." I let her know of the situation and she was so snobby with her remarks, I left FUMING. I honestly don't ever want to take my dog back there again. Beware!!! We purchased fish from this store few days ago. Do not buy from this store or any other pet smart. We have lost a whole tank due to new fish having fin rot. Had healthy fish for over a year in our tank, few new ones and they all are gone. Tried treating the tank they are gone within days. We are so heart broken ove this, loosing our fish and plants. When I called to make the appointment prior, the associate said nothing about a holding fee when I mentioned that I would drop my dog off in the morning and pick him up after work. Mind you the only call that I received was to tell me my dog was ready for pickup. When I got there to get him I was informed that my dog was stressed out and going through anxiety and that he was kennel crazed. I want to know why I wasn't notified sooner so I could have gotten him or figured something out. I noticed that I was charged a holding fee of $28 and when I mentioned it to the associate she was like "aw well, we're not setup to keep dogs long" This is absolutely ridiculous, never going to this location for grooming again. read more

I love this Pet Smart. Parking is amazing and I never see it full because the store is not attached to any other stores which is nice. Grooming is amazing and the staff is so friendly. My boxer Dante loves it and they do such a great job. He smells so good for about a week! I live 5 min away but if you are farther it is worth it. That said, they don't always have the same items that would be available at the Chesapeake Square location. In any case, I prefer this store over the other. It's cleaner, newer and the every single staff member is friendly and always ready to help. I will Never ever bring my dog to pet smart groomers again. I had the worst services. Everyone makes mistakes, but to be a liar is another story. I dropped my dog off at 1130 am. I called around 330 pm to see if my dog was ready. The young lady said thatmy dog was not ready because they were taking her to the vet! My question to her was, when did they plan to call me? Her response it just happened. So of course I'm frantic and ask to speak to the manager and she didn't seem apologetic at all. She asked for my vet info and said they would call. Next my husband and I head up to vet office and my dog had a big cut on her ear. I recently took our dog back to Pet Smart in Suffolk (College Drive) for a full service grooming. I specifically asked that he be given a breed appropriate cut and went over what that would entail just to make sure we were on the same page. I was shocked to get him back with a "one size fits all" shave job AND a LIMP!! What The Heck?!! I don't know what happened but I will NEVER take any of our dogs back there! This is my first time going to a petsmart for a bath for my Australian Shepherd puppy that is almost a year old. There's a woman with the name of Sarah C. in the front that was checking me in and checking my dog's vet records to make sure he is good to go. First off let me tell you I have experience with dogs from my own household and dogs that were strangers, you are supposed to introduce yourself to a dog especially if he's never seen you before. Well the lady just came straight towards him without letting him sniff her and he jumps on her in a very friendly way because he just likes saying hi to everyone. So she didn't like how he jumped on her and mistakenly scratched her on the arm. I apologized because I don't like that he jumps when he sees someone he's never seen before, but that's his way of meeting someone. Any way she proceeds to start just touching his backside to see if it's matted and he starts moving around because he doesn't even know the lady at all and she's just touching him all over the place. I get she's trying to do her job, but like I said if you have been around dogs and have some kind of knowledge about them almost every single dog is different when approached. Next thing, Sara puts this blue choke leash on him and tries to walk him to the back room. At this point I'm not too confident this lady has ever had a damn dog in her life because she's walking him like he's some creature that doesn't know how to walk on a leash and is pulling up on the leash choking his neck. Anyway, I am on my way out to my car and I realized I forgot something so I went back in to see if I can tell her about it. Then I see her coming back out from the back door saying my dog is being difficult and doesn't want to go in the cage so he's going to have to come in a different time to have someone take him in for an express wash or whatever. Now this is the part where I really have problems with her and this grooming department. Sara is walking on the way back towards me from the back room and my dogs eyes are really red, his eyes gets like that when he's stressed. So she stressed him out within 3 mins of him being in her hands. He starts trying to wiggle himself out of the blue choke leash I was talking about and now it's really choking him. Like at this point it's choking him so hard he's starting to move like he's possessed because he can't breathe and he was trying to bite the blue collar, I start calling his name so he realizes I'm there and he stops for a second and coughs desperately for air. The lady claimed he was trying to bite her, but I seen it for myself he was trying to bite the leash, I promise I can let anyone see my dog or my dogs records he has never bitten me or any strangers I have brought around him not even as a puppy. Finally she get to me, she says she's going to have to refer him out and never be able to come back unless he's on a sedative. 3 things I want let everyone know: -Sara never told me she was going put him in the cage before he's actually seen so I would have never taken him there because my dog is not familiar with this place and he's not familiar with this cage she was trying to put him in. I would have came back whenever they were ready for me. -The blue choke collar, she was using this a the main method to walk my dog, even though I gave her the leash and collar he had on when he came in. I believe petsmart should not be using this one dogs I know that there are other methods of taking a dog you don't know to walk with you. - Sara was really rude and acted as if she has never handled a dog in her life. She's supposed to be a groomer. So this woman should no longer need to be working with dogs after this experience unless you've had prior experience handling many DIFFERENT types of dogs. I really wish I recorded it to show how bad this experience was and so you can see exactly what I saw. I hope this makes up your mind to never come to this groomer. read more

This is strictly for the grooming department. They are unprofessional and argumentative. I was having a conversation with one groomer about drop off policies and another groomer rudely butted into the conversion and incorrectly quoted company policy to me. While waiting I also witnessed them being extremely rude to an older gentleman dropping off his dog and telling him at 12:28 that he was too early for his 12:30 appointment. They apparently also failed to tell him he would need an updated proof of rabies vaccine and gave him a hard time about it even though he offered to run home and get the documentation. They said they needed to check his dog in at exactly 12:30 because they were fully booked today. They may be decent groomers- I won't know for sure until I pick my two pups up later - but I cannot stand for rudeness and disrespect. We will not be returning. There are too many other equally qualified and more respectful groomers in the area. read more

Our family has been loyal customers at PetSmart for 5+ years. Recently, we took our dog who had a bout with arthritis and was limping to get groomed. We were told by Grooming management they could not see him because he couldn't put pressure on his leg. Fast forward 3 months, our dog's leg is much better he is not limping and can put pressure on his leg so we called to make an appt. However, when we spoke to PetSmart they said they could no longer see our dog based on the last visit and because a note was put in the computer that he had been limping for life! What?!! So, in other words they refused to groom our dog without seeing him or determining if his leg was better based on a note in the computer! Wow!!! So, years of our dog being healthy and us paying $$$ to this place and we can't get you to check our dog out to see if indeed he is still limping. I will never go to PetSmart again!!! read more
