This was my first…read morevisit to this clinic, and honestly, there were many dogs in the waiting room some active and others more relaxed. The place is quite small, so the dogs couldn't be too close to each other or else you wait outside. My visit went well overall. The vet checked both of his ears and ruled out an ear infection, which I was even aware he had. They suggested giving him an injection and doing an ear flush at the clinic, while I would take oral medication home. I had to stop the vet there and asked, "How much is the injection?" I felt the vet was going too fast, and I wasn't aware of the cost. He went back to the office and returned without any paper in hand, just telling me the total would be $207. I then asked how much just the injection was, and he said $27. I gladly agreed, not realizing what else was included in the invoice. When they called me to pay, no invoice was provided. I was asked to pay on the spot. After that then I received the invoice and saw two medications that could have been bought at the pharmacy with coupons. I checked GoodRx and found I could have paid only $13 for both medications, instead of $62.10 at the clinic. I called the clinic to ask if they could provide a paper prescription, and the clerk confirmed they could. However, she mentioned I was supposed to ask for it beforehand. I explained that I told the vet I wanted the injection and only received the cost estimate. The clerk also said they cannot refund or reimburse any costs and advised me to ask for the prescription next time and hoping that I understood. I want to share this experience to advise others: avoid buying medications directly from the clinic, as they are often triple the price. Instead, create an account with GoodRx or a similar service to save a lot of money. I've learned my lesson be cautious and don't agree too quickly. I wish clinics were more transparent about costs and ensured that prescriptions are provided in writing to help you save money. I have to remind him to check other things. This time, I was charged for a feline leukemia vaccination that I didn't even request. I only knew it was given when my invoice was much higher than usual. $42.00 each for two cats. When I said I didn't think we got them, I was told it was combined with the RCPC. (I thought they stopped doing that years ago.?!) I said I hadn't requested it and I never get it for my cats, I was told by Shelby, "oh, that's my fault." Thank you for accepting responsibility, but that doesn't help that my cats got something I didn't want them to have and I'm out $84. I'll be looking for someone who specializes in cats. For some reason, the vet spends more time with dogs. Does he just not care for cats?

During my first visit, there was very little effort to establish a relationship or discuss my concerns. The appointment immediately became focused on scheduling my dog's neuter. (I should've taken this as a sign) My dog's first surgery appointment was canceled after we had already arrived because of staffing issues. No one called ahead, despite us taking time off work and preparing my dog by fasting him overnight. We rescheduled a month later (With a different surgeon, not by preference) Again, my dog fasted overnight and was dropped off early in the morning. We received no updates throughout the day despite asking to be notified if anything changed. Around pickup time, I CALLED THEM and was told they never performed the surgery because they "couldn't get to him." However, they still performed bloodwork and an exam and charged me approximately $185 even though the procedure we had planned never happened. What frustrated me most was the lack of communication. Had someone called earlier in the day, I could have picked up my dog sooner instead of having him sit at the clinic fasting all day. Between two canceled surgery days, missed work, and poor communication, I lost confidence in the practice and sought care elsewhere. I hope the clinic improves its scheduling, communication, and respect for clients' (INCLUDING MY DOG) time.

River Road Pet Clinic, on the other hand, has always been attentive to our needs. They listen to what we have going on and provide info on procedures done, issues with our pet, etc. In the past we had to sedate our dog just to get his nails clipped but here, the vet techs were able to do it with him wide awake. I truly believe this is because of their calm and compassionate care. I appreciate the staff's patience with my slightly anxious dog. I trusted River Road Pet Clinic with my Chihuahua, Kimo, for years. For most of that time, I was…read morehappy with his care, which makes what happened at the end of his life even more devastating. One morning, Kimo suddenly became very ill. He was nauseated, vomiting and regurgitating, and could not keep even water down. I called River Road Pet Clinic, and they squeezed him in that morning, which I appreciated. They gave him medication, placed him on IV fluids, and took X-rays. I was told they could not find anything seriously wrong, and Kimo was sent home at around 10 a.m. Over the next six or seven hours, he did not improve. He became progressively worse. By then River Road was closed, so I rushed him across town to Veterinary Emergency Group. Within minutes of arriving at VEG, they performed an ultrasound and discovered that Kimo's gallbladder had ruptured. I was told it had likely happened much earlier, possibly the night before or that morning. By that point, there was nothing that could be done to save him, and I had to make the heartbreaking decision to end his suffering. The following day, a veterinarian from River Road called to ask how Kimo was doing. I had to tell her that he had died. She said she was sorry and wished she had been there. I cannot adequately describe how upsetting that response was after what had happened. My dog had presented that morning with severe gastrointestinal symptoms, could not keep water down, received approximately $700 worth of treatment and diagnostics, and was sent home without the condition that ultimately killed him being identified. Hours later, an emergency hospital found the problem almost immediately with an ultrasound. I understand that medicine is not perfect and that not every condition can be diagnosed immediately. But based on my experience, I believe Kimo's symptoms warranted more investigation, additional imaging, or a referral to an emergency or specialty hospital rather than simply sending him home. Knowing that he spent those final hours becoming increasingly sick and uncomfortable is something I will carry with me forever. I was also extremely disappointed that River Road never offered to refund or even discuss the roughly $700 I had paid that morning for care that ultimately failed to identify the emergency Kimo was experiencing. Kimo was my baby, and I trusted this clinic to recognize when something was seriously wrong with him. That trust is gone. Based on what happened to Kimo, I cannot recommend River Road Pet Clinic. If your pet is acutely ill and you feel something is seriously wrong, I would strongly consider going directly to an emergency veterinary hospital where ultrasound and other advanced diagnostics are immediately available.

Everyone was kind, calm, and actually took the time to listen. The doctor listened to everything I had observed and immediately took my concerns seriously, especially when I mentioned finding a sting. Instead of brushing it off, he agreed it could be related and focused on what made the most sense based on Albert's symptoms. They performed a urinalysis, found that he had a UTI, and got him started on antibiotics right away. Within hours of his first dose, he was already improving and peeing normally again. What really stood out to me was how thoughtful and thorough they were without jumping straight to expensive, unnecessary testing. They explained things clearly, respected my input as his owner, and treated Albert with genuine care. On top of that, the cost was incredibly reasonable, which made a huge difference during an already stressful situation. Pet emergencies are scary enough, and it meant a lot to feel like I was getting honest care without being overwhelmed financially. I'm so grateful for this team.
