Dr. Cherie Cortez really paid extra special attention to our orange tabby, Julius throughout his care needs. Julius is so comfortable with her and he is rather picky with whom he trusts. Julius needed a procedure and follow up to ensure he is on the track to healing and Dr. Cortez continues to be consistent, with her compassion and knowledge to help us stay on top of his healing. May 28, 2025 Took my dog Toby in for his sudden inability to jump up on the couch and bed. He was also whining, whimpering, and crying a lot. He was assigned to seen by Dr. Tom Johnston and it was recommended that he have X-rays of his hips and legs. I could hear Toby's torturous cries during the X-rays so I don't believe they administered any sedative. The Vet returned and told me that Toby's hips were absolutely normal but that during the X-ray he began peeing out some brownish small stones on the floor. The Vet proceeded to tell me that the X-ray taken was good news and that he was sending the stones to a lab for examination and would have results in 8-10 days and would call me with the results (of which I was charged $277.50 for which I never received the call or a report of the results) He sent us home with Trazodone 100mg, Gabapentin 300mg, Carprofen 75mg, and Rimadyl caplets as an antibiotic. He also put Toby on a special prescription urinary diet. I called several times for the results of the stone analysis and was repeatedly told that they hadn't come in yet. A month went by and then two months and Toby's condition was worsening. On July 30th, I rushed Toby to a Vet Urgent Care center and he was examined and x-rayed again, which the radiologist read that he indeed had degenerative arthritis in his hips as well as a large retroperitoneal soft tissue opaque mass which most likely arose from sublumbar lymph node group which may represent neoplastic or reactive change. From this information, we took Toby to an Internal Medicine specialist at VCA Internal Medicine where an ultrasound revealed multiple masses throughout his abdomen and two located in his spleen. The reports from biopsies taken that day were relayed to me on August 25th by Dr, Bondi at VCA. Metastatic cancers were growing throughout his body and there was little to do other than trying chemotherapy and radiation. This information and all records were sent to Sabino Veterinary Clinic with a request from us to provide Toby with hospice and palliative care resources along with pain and comfort medicine To allow us as much time with him as possible before the need for in-home euthanasia. Sabino Veterinary Care said that they needed to examine Toby before they could or would provide any treatment medication. Now, mind you, we had just been through a horrific ordeal in which the Sabino Vet told us two months prior that Toby was essentially fine except for passing some elusive stones, and we had since just spent over $3000.00 in Vet bills discovering he was full of Cancer and would die relatively soon! Sabino Veterinary Care, and Dr, Thompson should immediately be on notice for such an incompetent and botched diagnosis on Toby and they should refund every cent we paid for that visit, especially since we never got a call or received a report on those so-called stones of which we paid $277.50 for an analysis!! The bill for that visit alone was over $800.00! If you want good Veterinary care for your pet(s) and don't want your pocket picked for that care, please go elsewhere!! read more

They used to be excellent. But all the vets we liked left since they had been sold to another company & everything went to downhill ever since. Whenever I call, I am told to 'hold' until I can't stand any longer. In my latest emergency visit for my kitty, they did the bloodwork but I had never received the result back. When I called them , they apologized and told me they would send it immediately. Well, never happened. I called them back again & was put on hold again, they apologized again. Enough of all this nonsense. What should I do if my beloved kitty gets worse & fatal due to their lack of attention, response , or whatever it might be? I AM DEFINITELY CHANGING TO A DIFFERENT VET . Wow...over $80 each for 2 nail trims on 10 pound dogs. No other services provided...was just there for nail trims. $160 later, was told it was because of a $48 "vet tech fee" for each dog for $96 (under 5 minutes each), PLUS the cost of the nail trims. Having had many dogs with many nail trims, they run around $25-$30 everywhere else I've ever been. So, enjoy my $160 Sabino Vet Care, I'll never return. read more

Going here with my dogs for years. Went today for an issue with my doggie first thing they did was try to force vaccines on me. I don't do unnecessary vaccines. Killed my one baby after a heated debate, they kicked me out!!! They have to make money on vaccines and unnecessary procedures, because they have very few clients. Beware of this place. read more

This Vet took care of our beloved "Tiggy" rescue cat for many years. The Dr's took great care of her since she had kidney disease and helped prolong her life. When her kidneys gave out, they put her to sleep for us. It was one of the most traumatic experiences for my wife and I because we had "Tiggy" for over 18 years. While they helped us immensely over the years, we were utterly dismayed with the total lack of compassion and sympathy. Not a word of "Sorry" from the Dr or the staff. They only wanted their money quickly, which I paid immediately. We ordered her remains to be returned. When I went to pick it up they picked up the bag with the urn and gave it to me without a comment. My last review seems to have been deleted which is very unprofessional. My cat was a patient here for almost a year, and for the last two months of her lil life she was miserable. She sneezed at first, then started coughing. So I took her in, and they said it was dust, or soot- or I did, and they agreed with me, even though IM not a DOCTOR. Fast forward to her death bed and the ER doctor at vScot told me it was bronchitis with a thyroid tumor, filling with blood and suffocating her. She was in agony for a week before she couldn't keep going. I came in to tell her to fight and that everyone was praying. the last thing I got to say to her was "I love you." But the thing is, the tumor wasn't caught by Dr.Radke. I feel that maxi's symptoms slipped through her veterinary knowledge and couldn't be saved in time due to negligence. It's taken me some time to get to a place where I can write this. After moving to Tucson 5 years ago, I looked up the best vet for my baby in all of Tucson. Happily, I thought I had found it very close to home. I maintained a close relationship with this vet till our baby passed away this May. To say that losing her broke my heart is an understatement. However, what made the experience even more disheartening and hurtful was the treatment I received from this vet the last week of her being with us and the follow up of her passing. In every way, on multiple occasions, sabino Vet let our family down and showed me their lack of true concern or care and empathy for our loss. Their actions were in the non actions. I've actually considered paying for a vet visit, just to have time reserved, to discuss our experience with them so no other family would have to experience what we did at the hands of this office. To get to a point where the sadness and anger has subsided enough for me to have a logical conversation has been a difficult and long journey. My heart is still broken and trying to heal. So disappointed in them. It's only now that I could even consider this post. without going into all the details, I can assure you that when I've discussed the situation as it played out with this vet to family and friends, I'm constantly reminded that my expectations we reasonable and sabino vet missed the mark in so many ways. The loss of a beloved pet is heart wrenching and comes with so many cycles in grief. But to have the vet you trusted and rely on for years let you down at critical times of need and show zero understanding for the acuteness of the situation, amplified the distress of the situation, was cruel and undoubtedly harmed not only their patient but the family who loved her. there are plenty of other well reviewed vets that handle the emergencies of their patients, and end of life situations with much more compassion, thoughtfulness and love. I honestly could never with a good conscience ever recommend anyone to this vet at this point. Very disappointed today to learn that Dr. Jim and Dr. Susan have not owned or worked here for almost a year. Even Dr. Monterosa (spelling) has left the business. She has been seeing our dog Sammy for sometime now for diabetes. Now we have to go in and establish an all new relationship with another Vet who only know Sammy from what she reads on the charts. If I could give Sabino Veterinary Care ten stars I would. In addition to being, brilliant, Dr. Susan has been willing to research and "go deep" in helping me manage our 12 year old rescue chihuahua's chronic IBS....The concern, care and willingness to spend time both during office visits, telemed appointments and answering my never-ending emails on Remy's condition have earned my loyalty and gratitude. We are snowbirds from upstate NY....where Remy's last IBS flare cost us over $1500 for one emergency non-overnight visit. Sabino has always made sure Remy is seen when he is sick - something I know from experience other clinics cannot or do not always do. Their fee structure is very much in line with other practices and, in my opinion, the fact that there is a small charge to existing clients to schedule an emergency visit is nothing compared to what I have paid in NY - for poorer care. I have transferred all records and annual care to this facility. Drs. Susan and Jim Stofft spend time getting to know the animals, and their gentle touch and compassion with our elderly cat and dog (who have since passed) is something we are very grateful for. I should also mention that the clinic has comfortable exam rooms and a large spacius reception area that makes visits there less stressful. It is very well thought out and safe. I would not hesitate to recommend Sabino Veterinary Care....and the vet techs and staff are wonderful too! read more

I took my dog in since he had a a growth on his neck. The doctor said she would have to aspirate it and see what is going on inside. I didn't want to do that since he is old. I decided to get a second opinion. The second vet said it was an enlarged sebaceous gland which cleaned up, gave me antibiotic cream and oral antibiotics. It's very disappointing. that the first vet wouldn't go to the first line of care and not to the last. read more

WARNING TO PET OWNERS. After using Sabino Veterinary on a few occasions for a couple of our dogs in the past, I was shock to find out today I was BANNED from all future services. After adopting a new shelter dog I called to set up an appointment. Only to be told they had our name on a BLACK LIST! Yes you read that right, they maintain a black list... I'm not sure how we got on the BLACK LIST? My guess is we called and asked if they might offer a discount on a stray pet we found that was in dire straights. This was something that occurred many many months ago. The receptionist, I think her name was Kim (and there was another rude person, Luna) was a bit snippy over the request, as if it was somewhat inappropriate for me to ask. But my word.... We were customers and this dog was a stray that needed help. What's the crime in asking? And in fact I was calling today for a different dog and only requested an appointment. BLACK LISTING a customer is not something that any local business should do. In the end, a better Veterinary- Ventana Animal Hospital came to the rescue. They performed surgery and we paid $1500. Yes it was that serious. Sabino Veterinary Care should be ashamed of themselves. We are huge animal supporters and have helped save over a dozen dogs lost and in trouble in the Foothills here. We have fostered many others and actively support many animal causes for decades. ANY BUSINESS that starts black listing members of our community is on a slippery slope. People need to know. I reject this type of practice and I'm bracing for their response if they read this.... which I hope they do. Our pets deserve better! read more

I went to numerous places with him before I went there, no one could help him or figure it out. It was test after test. No solution. I came over here to look at reviews as I'm recommending Sabino out to my boss and I wanted to see what the reviews looked like. For some background: we've been seeing Jim since he was at Valley, and we've followed him from there to his current location. In the last 12+ years we've become close with Jim, Susan, and everyone else at SVC. We have cats: old, special needs, can't place 'em cats -- usually with a variety of health issues. On a couple of occasions these conditions have been terminal. Regardless of the cat and how long we've had them in our care (shortest was 30 days, longest was 15 years), and regardless of the issue at hand, we've had nothing but exceptional and compassionate care from Jim and Susan. That being said, I'd like to respond to a couple of the more recent, more critical reviews. The idea that SVC is about upselling unnecessary treatment is personally repellant to me, as that has never been our family's experience with them. Animals are difficult patients. Sometimes people bring their animals in too late to be effectively treated. The person who is answering the phone may have just finished participating in euthanizing a sick animal that was dropped off like a piece of luggage. These people are really good at what they do. Just because you're paying them to perform a service, one that is frequently stressful, and occasionally heartbreaking, does not entitle you to be a terrible human being. We went to Sabino Vet because on website about page it said doctors have 25 years experience. The vet that saw us was young had nothing near 25 years experience. At first we were told our cat was fine, several blood tests, medications, visits and calls, fast forward several weeks later our cat is dead from cancer. The vet from another clinic knew right away Tiger was sick from cancer. It is clear that this is just a business by the lack of return of emails and calls at critical times. We needed to discuss putting Tiger down as we can see he was suffering more and more, after being put on hold and disconnected. We called back and were told the vet was in surgery. We asked for the owners names the all the sudden our vet answered the phone. So she was not in surgery. It took one visit with a new experienced Vet that said Tiger has cancer and he she of been euthanize weeks ago. I feel Sabino Vet Is just a business trying to make money nothing about actual love for pets. Now we sit here wishing Tiger got an early diagnosis and he didn't have to suffer so much. Thankfull we didn't spend another $1,200 that the vet said he needed on dental care. We would of put Tiger through unnecessary surgery during his final weeks of dying. To top everything off they knew Tiger was being put down and never a call or email to say so sorry. This is just another sign it's all about money! read more

Dr. Radtke and Teagan are fantastic with my pup, Nala. She has anxiety from her previous living situation and she has really bonded with both Dr. Radtke and Teagan. Dr. Radtke has taken the time on multiple occasions to call me both during business hours and after hours to discuss heartworm treatment for Nala and didn't berate me or make me feel bad when I was unable to continue due to personal issues. As long as I'm in Tucson, Dr. Radtke will be my vet! read more

This vet's office ought to be ashamed of themselves. Not only for the poor care they provide animals but also for their lack of empathy. You take your animals to a vet for wellness checks, vaccinations, emergency situations, and any other animal care needs with the trust they will provide exceptional care. Unfortunately, this vet's office cares more about the bottom dollar than they do the pet parents and the animals they are supposed to care for. Here are two examples of their poor practices. Example one: My dog was taken to them because it was thought to have pyometra. At that time, I was unable to go into the vet's office with my dog due to COVID. The vet indicated she had examined her in every way she needed to and that it indeed had pyometra. Pyometra is a very serious and life-threatening situation for a dog. The vet said she needed emergency surgery but she was unable to perform it because she was the only vet there that day. I was unaccepting of this and took my dog straight to the emergency vet. The emergency vet did an exam and stated my dog did not have pyometra but was pregnant. I called the other vet's office back and asked if they even bothered doing a true exam to include an ultrasound and or an x-ray. The vet indicated no. All they did was palpate my dog and came to the conclusion that she had pyometra. She said if she wasn't the only vet there that day she would have definitely done surgery on her to save her life. No! She would have killed all ten of my dogs puppies. How irresponsible, ignorant, and lazy can a person be. When the vets office was notified of their error there was no concern for the damage they could have caused. Instead it became a running joke around their office. Second example: I took my animal in because it wasn't feeling well. It's eating patterns,  behavior, and overall well being had changed. Based on the vets exam of the animal, it was necessary to take blood. The vet indicated that if anything came back on the preliminary blood work to indicate there was an issue they would let me know immediately. Two days later, I had to rush the animal to the emergency room. The emergency doctor performed an ultrasound and found that the animals abdomen was filled with blood due to a spleen rupturing and a tumor. Unfortunately, my pet had to be put to sleep and go to heaven. The emergency vet asked if the regular vet had done an ultrasound or an x-ray at the time they were taken. I said no and wondered why they had not performed such a simple routine test. The emergency vet told the me they would have known what was going on had they just done performed this simple test. Unfortunately, it would not have changed the outcome but at least I would have known sooner and my dog would not have had to suffer for those additional two days. Five days later when the vets office contacted me to provide results of the test, there were some abnormalities on the blood work. I could not understand why it took the vets office so long to contact me regarding the lab results. The vet's office said that they send blood work out because it is less expensive. I said I was under the impression that they do preliminary lab work in house and that they would have received notifications sooner of any abnormalities. At this point all the vet's office wanted to do was argue and not provide any resolution and or condolences for the passing of my animal. read more

I had a great experience here when I ran into a little emergency with my little dog. He had an eye infection and I was so worried. This place was very clean and the service was great. The whole process was fast and convenient. I was a little worried because it was an emergency and his eye was looking bad it would cost a lot. The visit and everything came under $200 and his eye was healed in no time. What I really loved about this place was that they did not try to push for services or products. We have nothing but good things to say about Drs.Stoft and Dr.Radke, as well as the front desk and tech crew. As owners of aging cats, we accept that things will happen. Each time a cat has gotten sick, the doctors have been very clear on our options and what results we could expect. We were not pushed into "doing everything " when doing so would not change outcomes. When our fur babies died, we were given paw print molds and received handwritten condolence cards from the office. Dr. Radke even made a donation to the Humane Society in Clementine's name. When one of our cats benefited from subcutaneous fluids, they took the time at 4pm the day before Thanksgiving to teach me how to do it at home so our girl would be comfortable over the long weekend. Can't imagine taking our fur babies anywhere else. read more

I contacted them to make an appointment on a Saturday... any Saturday in the next 2 months. They told me that Saturday's are reserved for their "established" clients. If they treat clients differently for appointments, I wonder how differently they treat them with regard to level of service and pricing... Best vet clinic in all of Tucson! Dr. Radkte is kind, caring, and very trustworthy. Piper the Dog thinks that she is wonderful, and he doesn't like a lot of people (grumpy doxie). I have recently started taking my cats to Sabino Veterinary Care and have been extremely satisfied with their care. We have seen both Dr. Jim and Dr. Susan and they have been so great! One of my cats is diabetic and requires some special attention and the other just had a dental cleaning with extractions. I have found their prices competitive and have not felt pressured to "do more" than what was necessary for their care. I have been so impressed by the way the staff is handling the curbside service that is necessary because of Covid-19. It is so nice to have the doctors come out to the car to listen to my concerns and then come back out and explain what's going on with my pets, which did not happen at our previous vet office. It takes time for them to do that but makes the care that they have for their customers (human and animal) quite obvious. read more

My pets are my family. I met Jim Stofft while he was a veterinary tech at another clinic about 30 years ago. He worked at that clinic after earning his DVM degree. He became my family's primary veterinarian. When he changed clinics, I followed him to the new clinic (my mother and I had been clients of the other clinic for 25 years). Late with my review but better late than never! Moved to Tucson in June and a month later my dog got pretty sick. I took him to Sabino Canyon Vet and could not have had a better experience. From the moment we walked in to the moment we kept it was a 5-star experience. I really appreciated having treatment options and such caring people. It was followed up with phone calls to check in my sweet boy and even a Get Well card in the mail. I highly recommend bringing your pets here, they couldn't be in better or more caring hands. I took my dogs to Sabino Vet for several years. I have had many issues from being told my dog might have a brain tumor to having my dog undergo a dental procedure that they could not finish and referred me out and it cost over $5,500. Other things were misdiagnosed and created a lot of unnecessary anxiety as they turned out not to be as serious as they opined. The costs are very high and when I had my dogs teeth cleaned recently he needed no extractions and had already lost 15 teeth yet they charged me almost $800.00 for a routine cleaning. It is hard to get a regular appointment when you have a concern so they try to sell you and slot you in as an emergency (when it's not) and charge higher exam fees. They do not respond to messages in a timely manner. I finally gave up and called to say I was having my dogs records moved to another practice the woman named "Luna" who answers the phones said "ok fine" I told her that I had referred 4 families to them and I felt like they had begun price gouging and lost the desire to provide personalized compassionate animal care and she hung up on me!!!! The facility is nice on its face but inside the practice - it's gotten ugly. read more

So I have had luck to I've adopted my dog 7 years ago now and have had not taken him into a vet for anything and then one morning he woke up with half his face completely swollen! Super scary. Dr Stoft is awesome and so are all of the staff at Sabino Veterinary Care clinic. I love it!
