I commented a few years ago but thought I would be current. My dachshund, Olive, is now 5-1/2 yrs old and has been going here since she got her first shots. She jumps out of the car and heads to the door then to the scale. Tho she is like me, reluctant to get on the scale. She trusts the staff. Yesterday was her annual checkup with Dr Schubach, and for a couple of vaccines and tests. I happened to find the receipts from her last 3 yrs of receipts and noticed they have not increased their prices at all. In this day and age that is remarkable and totally appreciated. Especially since they have added facilities recently. Olive is my first dog and my first time using a vet. I did a lot of research and asking around before choosing Paws and have not been disappointed. read more

PAWS has always provided the best care for my pets with compassion and gentleness. Their staff has always been exceptional. I only wish I had found them years ago. I love that they have a dedicated area just for cats. The facilities are clean and well maintained. They provide little things to make your cats visit more comfortable like scratch posts in the room, a sheer curtain for them to hide behind, and my cats have always enjoyed the BirdTV just outside the window. We love feline focus and Dr Aronson for holistic and western medicine! For years PAWS has been great to our pets. I wanted to encourage any cat owner to try their Feline Focus building. I had avoided vet care for my kitty after she'd been "fractious" elsewhere. She legitimately had a great time at Feline Focus! I was nearly in tears with how kind and helpful staff was. BE CAREFUL. This Veterinary Clinic practices "fear free" exams. In a nutshell, that means they can turn your pet away without doing the exam and still charge full price for the exam. This is what they did to me. - They never mentioned anything about being fear free when I made my appointment. - my puppy is friendly to everybody but a little bit shy at the vet. Never aggressive. - 3 other vets were able to examine my puppy with no problem whatsoever. The Groomer was able to do a full groom with no problem whatsoever. - Dr. Benitez at PAWS was afraid to examine my puppy and said he needed to be sedated. He's an eight month old mini poodle puppy. He jumps into the laps of complete strangers and gives kisses. But was a little bit afraid of Dr. Benitez, who is extremely nervous around animals. - Dr. Benitez suggested I return with my 8 month old mini-poodle under sedation for a normal exam. It was beyond ridiculous. Nobody on earth would look at my puppy and think he needed to be sedated for an exam. Nobody. - when I met with the vet tech for the pre-exam consultation, I mentioned four areas that I would like Covered during this exam.1) look at his eyes because they are a little crusty 2) look at ears with otoscope 3) look at teeth to see if baby teeth have all come out 4) trim nails.. She agreed to all of this which is perfectly normal because this is the normal list that is covered in an exam among other things. But I didn't ask for anything else. Just those four areas. When the doctor walked in, I reiterated the same exact list and said that in order to budget your time, I would like these four areas covered. And he agreed. THE DOCTOR DID NONE OF THE THINGS ON THE LIST. He spent 30 minutes, trying to make friends with my puppy by feeding him about 100 treats. My puppy didn't ever reach the point where he would crawl into his lap and give him kisses, and therefore the vet refused to do the exam, but KEPT MY MONEY. Dr. Benitez did NOT do the exam. He kept my money because he said he spent time with my Pet. He did not do any of the four items on the list. I've never seen anything like that. Afraid to do the exam with a puppy because he wouldn't be his best friend. He was not growling or showing any aggression. But the doctor was not comfortable doing the exam and kept my money. I was not warned that this would be a possibility. In fact, I brought it up twice that I had a list of four items I would like Covered and both the vet tech and the vet agreed to those items. They did not do the exam and they kept my money. What kind of business does that? read more

What a great place! I brought my fearful dog in for allergies. Previous vets had wanted her tranquilized before I brought her, had put muzzles on here, then rush rush rush. This vet took her time, made friends with my dog, then did the exam. No tranqs no muzzle all good on all ends. I highly recommend! read more

I've been going to PAWS for several years. I do think that their veterinarians are experienced some more than . I started out taking my Yorkie there and then added my other two dogs and now my two cats. Although I have veterinarians that I prefer my pets see if they are sick, overall I would say that PAWS does care, and 9 times out of 10 they will figure out what's wrong with my pets & get my pet better. The only thing that bothers me is that the 10 out of 20 when they get it wrong, they continue to charge you regular price for each visit until they find out what is wrong. We get charged every time that we go to see the vet even if they got it wrong. I just think there should be a discount in fees and services given, when that happens. read more

We needed to find a vet for our pups. They are very healthy pups with no major issues and have always received their yearly shots from clinics in the local area. However, because they are getting into their senior years, we felt it was time to set up services with a vet. We called Paws and were treated very nicely at the initial set up of the appointment. However, a day before we were supposed to see the vet, the office called demanding medical records from previous vets. I had explained at the time of setting up the appointment that I can bring in the vaccination records at the time of the appointment, but they don't have any other records but vaccination recorded because our dogs are healthy and received yearly shots from local clinics. They proceeded to tell me that because I was refusing to provide medical records, which is untrue, we were not the right fit for them and they would be cancelling the appointment. I asked them to still let us see the vet and let the vet make that determination. They refused. Apparently, they do not care about the dogs and more about unnecessary politics. I wonder if the vets are accepting of this practice or are unaware of how the front office staff treats potential patients. They ought to be ashamed of themselves for this. Do they treat their existing clients like this? What do they do for people who need to find a vet who just adopted a dog and their isn't a vet or previous medical records? The entire staff is exceptional. I had been taking Rusty to another vet and was not happy with the way they examined him. They would whisk him off to the back and do "stuff" then come talk to me. I didn't know what to expect when I took Rusty to PAWS for the first time. I was blown over by how nice the facility is. They have a separate section for cats and dogs so no cat feels threatened. The ladies at the front desk were so helpful and accommodating. The first exam was done in the same room with me! Man, I was shocked. The Tech gave him some peanut butter to help distract him so he was not focused on the exam. Instead of pumping him full of pain relievers like the other vet, they suggested that we not do that. Rusty had warts and there was an annoying one on his foot. It was getting infected and instead of having me keep wrapping it, the vet suggested that we got booties to put on his feet. Well that did the trick. Instead of using just the one, we decided to put them on all 4 so he could get around better. About 2 months after this visit, Rusty took his final visit to them. I called in the morning and was given a same day appointment. When we arrived, we were immediately taken to a room that was set up for him to be comfortable and for us to have privacy. The Tech and the Vet both spent time with us to make sure we were ready to let go. Afterward we were allowed to stay as long as we wanted with him. I've had to let go of many dogs & cats and this was by far the best experience I've had. I would highly recommend PAWS. Everyone there is focused on giving your fur-baby the best care possible. read more

Recently moved back to Tucson (yea!) and needed to find a new veterinarian for Murphy-Lou, the sweetest Coonhound in the world but she has a few medical issues that require vigilant monitoring. Check-in was a breeze and we were greeted as if we were old friend... very kind folks at the reception area. Our vet tech was super sweet, a good listener, thorough with Murphy's history info, and clearly a dog lover... (all the techs we've met have been much the same!). Dr. Fallini came in, introduced herself, and spent a LOT of time getting to know Murphy and her issues. She was extremely professional, warm, and seemed genuinely interested and focused when discussing her history. She took the time to answer all of our questions and we felt very confident in the care that PVC would provide. A few more visits since our first visit and we still feel great about the care she's getting at PVC, and we really enjoy stopping in and receiving friendly smiles from everyone. We spent three months in Tucson over the 2024/2025 winter season with both of our dogs (an aging 14 YO Shitzu and a 9 YO Jack Russell Terrier.) During this time we used the services of the PAWS Veterinary clinic as well as well as their canine rehab facility next door. We could not be more pleased with the level of care and dedication that everyone on the staff at both facilities provided to us and our pets. They also seamlessly interfaced and coordinated care with our Veterinarian back home in Michigan. I want to give a special "shout out" to the rehab team who were able to get our Shitzu mobile again. Due to laziness on his (and our) part, he tends to sleep all day and temporarily lost the ability to walk around. Over a ten week period the PAWS rehab team worked with us and him to get some basic mobility back. We have a plan to keep going with his rehab once we get home which we hope will let him live a good life for as long as he can. PAWS has been so helpful with my dog, Piper, since I brought her home at 8 weeks old. She started struggling with anxiety going to vet when she was about 6 months old, but all of the staff has been amazing at helping both me and her find ways to make the experience better for her. Dr. Thurston (who we have had the most experience with), the vet techs, and other vets who we have seen less frequently always take extra time to make sure that she's comfortable. My senior dog has been a patient of PAWS for over 3 years, and I worked there briefly and the standard of care they give their patients is amazing. I love Dr. Thurston- every appt she spends a good amount of time with us discussing Lola's issues, and Lola gets good vibes from her as well. The old lady has always gone and sat right in front of the doctor with no anxiety. I've worked with a lot of vets in the past, and I was so impressed and happy with our interaction with her when I was considering euthanasia. I didn't feel shamed whatsoever, but we worked through it and Lola's still thriving. Techs and front desk staff are amazing. Of course it can be difficult getting in for a non-routine appointment, but I've had absolutely no issues with PAWS! So I took my cat in for an annual work up. I was told NOT to let her urinate prior so they could get a urine sample. While the vet was palpating her she commented, "wow she has a full bladder!" They took her back to the area they do the urine sample and returned her to me. One the way home my cat'a bladder let loose. It was so much that it got all over my leather seats. Now I have family members that take their cat places and those places drain the bladder. They don't just take a few cc's and put them back in the cage! I expressed my frustration and requested some kind of refund as I am likely going to have to hire a detailer at the very least! I was told, sorry, most cat's bladder can handle it. They didn't even offer to buy me some enzyme cleaner. I'm beyond disappointed given what this place charges. read more

We are thrilled to be part of the PAWS family. We've had care there for our miniature dachshunds, Gator and Peach, since they were tiny babies. All the front staff and vet techs are all very professional and all smiles when we visit the clinic. Dr. Schubach is very down to earth and easy to talk with. She has provided excellent care to our pups, along with great advice. The clinic itself is very clean, warm and inviting with obvious care taken to make sure pet parents and their fur babies are as comfortable as possible. There is a new large building adjacent to the main clinic, which addresses rehabilitation needs with a specialist certified in pet rehabilitation, as well as a new building specifically for cat care. I just put my dog down. The crew at Paws is more interested in "selling services" than serving the dog's best interest. 2 months ago, my dog lost his appetite.......after $2000 in tests no hint of a diagnosis.......they just wanted to run more tests. incidently they also quoted us one price for radiology (written quote $564. , actual charge $785......it goes on and on. Dr Keener is our vet and THE ONLY reason we stayed w/ Paws was because of him..........don't get me wrong the staff is caring and professional but the vet we saw was woefully inadequate. I am sure the staff is merely following management's desire forMAX revenue, I get it, they are in business to make money but their first responsibility is to provide accurate professional service.......I'm happy to pay for that. After being faced with significant costs for more tests, I left angry and went to NWAnimal Hospital where Dr. Darwin requested all test results and imaging; along w/ this and a 3 minute exam of his lymp nodes and concluding my dog had METASTATIC GASTROLYMPHOMA. That was yesterday.....This Morning he collapsed and we put him down. I'm not holding Paws responsible but if they are going to charge Cadillac rates then you best get a Doctor that is experienced.........I may return, but only after Dr Keener returns.......I wish him the all the best. read more

We recently moved back to Tucson after living in Hawaii for the last 5 years. Prior to moving, we'd used PAWS for all of our dogs and cats. We were never less than 100% satisfied, so it made sense that upon returning, we'd go right back to them. Less than a week after returning, our 8 year old mini schnauzer, who'd recently had extensive dental work on the Big Island started acting listless and not eating. We didn't know what it was, but when I mixed his dry food with warm water to soften it, he ate it right up. We figured he must have another problem with his teeth, so we made an appointment with PAWS ASAP, which turned out to be Thursday (it was Monday at the time). On Tuesday we realized he was in great discomfort and was possibly running a fever, and asked if we could get an appointment sooner. They told us for an additional $95 we could bring him in that day. So my husband brought him in. Well, rather than doing *anything* for his teeth, they ran a valley fever test and gave us a scrip for meloxicam and told my husband to pick up Ubiquinol "at any pharmacy". When my husband told them, hey, it's pretty unlikely that he's contracted VF in the 6 days he's been back, they said they had to rule that out first. They told him it wasn't his teeth, but maybe something with his jaw. When he asked what it could be, the tech told him it might be cancer! Hey, thanks for that. Well, then we get a message from Dr. Aronson saying, surprise, surprise, he doesn't have VF. Yeah, we know. But how about telling us what our next steps are? How about setting up a follow-up appointment so we can get to the bottom of this? It's Friday now, and he's been in pain for 5 days now that we know of (and you -know- dogs hide their pain for a while before you even notice.) But he didn't suggest next steps, he didn't apologize for leaving our little guy in pain, and other than pointing to the possibility of him having a thyroid issue (but not suggesting follow-up or any treatment) he gave us nothing to reassure or help us help our beloved pet except for more pain meds. And whatever happened to that possible cancer? Is that not something that you feel is worth following up on? My husband kept calling and trying to get help, but to no avail. During these difficult covid-19 times, I don't like to give businesses bad reviews, but I have to figure, with the rates they charge, and the cavalier attitude they seem to have, they're not going broke at PAWS. And if they are, it's due to their own negligence. Our pets will be going elsewhere for care (Dr. Tom Miller has been great so far. He just did dental surgery on our boy and he's no longer suffering. So it was his teeth all along). I'm not sure what happened to PAWS since we left 5 years ago, but it's not the same place it once was. read more

We recently adopted our cat from PACC. As first time pet owners, we were so excited and also nervous for this new chapter. Our kitty wasn't eating for a few days, which became a full week, vomiting, and gagging at his food. Christmas was coming up, and I had already made a preliminary appointment at another vet in town, but due to the holiday approaching, I was so desperate to be seen by a vet. I called over 5 offices in town (all recommend here on Yelp) and I couldn't find any availability! I called PAWS and they got me in that day! I was so please surprised with many aspects of the experience: - easy to get on the phone and super responsive - BEAUTIFUL office with separate wings for cats and dogs along with spacious waiting rooms and coffee machine - we got so much personalized attention- the assistant and Dr. Klimentidis on both occasions have been so loving towards our cat and to us. I didn't feel rushed out of there, rather, listened to and given advice. - for our two separate visits, I have received follow up calls from the office asking about my cats wellbeing and if I had any questions. Overall- I would highly recommend this practice! I actually ended up cancelling the appointment I had with the other office I had made because of how much I enjoyed the experience at PAWS. I even noticed last time I was there they had a "Welcome to PAWS" list, and our cats name was on there! Made us feel really welcome to the family :) read more

I'm giving them 2 stars because all I see and get on my clothes are canine hair in the feline section because the canine section is on the other side but apparently paws has more Canine's than felines. My last visit I had dog hair on my shorts because I'm very allergic to Canine's except the ones that have to get their haircuts. I love all animals but let's face it even Veternairin's and Veterinarian Tech. Have favorites meaning they are more prone to a feline or a canine and that's a fact because all the veterinarian's back east even told me that is a fact if you find a honest veterinarian they would really tell you the truth but I only received the truth back east and in Carlsbad, California but not here I have only one veterinarian here that I know that love's felines because my Russian Blue knows right off by his body language and doesn't mind being touched by the Veterinarian but if he wants to hug me to get away then I know that veterinarian is more prone to canine's Feline's are very intelligent when who they can trust especially a purebred. I recently moved to Tucson and was looking for a vet for my 16-year-old dog Bella. A friend recommended PAWS and I am very happy she did! I called in early May and was able to secure an appointment in early June. Other veterinarian practices I called either were not taking new patients or had no openings until late in the summer. Everyone from the ladies at the front desk to the Vet Tech (Kasey) to the Vet himself (Dr. Keaner) was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We were made to feel at home as soon as we walked through the door. Bella is quite elderly and the move from the east coast was a bit traumatic for her. She had not been eating regularly and seemed lethargic. She's also a very allergic dog and her hind legs were beginning to give her problems. We were taken into the exam room right at our appointment time where Kasey spent a few minutes getting to know Bella and asking me questions about her health. After a few more minutes, Dr. Keaner came in. He spent at least 45 minutes with Bella examining her all over. We went over her many issues and his recommendations for her care have been spot on. It's been almost a week since our visit and Bella is not only eating much more than before, her energy level has increased. I received a call from PAWS the day after our visit to inquire how she was doing. She is a much happier dog now than she was just a week ago, and I have the staff at PAWS to thank for that. I'm very happy with the care Bella received at PAWS and know that I now have a reliable veterinarian here in Tucson. read more

We have been taking out precious pup to PAWS since 2011. In that time we have seen nothing but amazing veterinarian after amazing veterinarian and caring staff. They are taking not only your health seriously but your pets as well during this difficult pandemic. Preventive care and vaccinations still need to happen even during this difficult time but the staff make it easy to drop off your dog, wait in the car, and your pet's vet will call you let you know how everything went and make any recommendations. They take your payment over the phone and then bring your pet right to your car. Keeping you and their staff safer and healthier. Also of note, this veterinary center has anesthesiologists present during procedures such as teeth cleaning which is so important to the safety of our furry family members. Being new to Tucson finding all new everything is difficult at best but in an emergency situation and it's a loving pet then it's especially emotional. Luckily I had been referred to PAWS several weeks ago for a non emergency situation. But today I had emergency. I called as soon as the office opened, explained my pets problem. Even tho they were booked they were kind enough to work us in their schedule. Thank you so much. Of course with COVID-19 their visit protocol has changed so Troy was seen as I waited in the car anxiously for the diagnosis. It wasn't long and Dr. Klimentidis called me with a complete diagnosis , explanation and treatment plan. I w extremely pleased from beginning to end with my experience with PAWS. This is exactly what I expect when I need and want to visit a Vet for Troy, be it an emergency or not. I highly recommend PAWS for you as well. read more

we left this practice due to other reasons in a previous post. I asked for my dogs records to give to another vet. this is the only vet that didn't allow me to be in the room when they gave her shots, took blood. my dog is very attached to me and I can calm her I was appalled to read that when they took her in the back she struggled so hard she defecated. their solution " won't see this dog unless she's sedated". makes me wonder what else happened behind those closed doors. read more

A 10 star review with our wonderful experience with Paws Veterinary Center: My sweet lab Porky had to have emergency surgery after discovering a possibility of Pyrometra. Dr Blumenfeld not only saved my dogs life but after her recovery from a 2-hour surgery Dr Blumenfeld went the extra mile to follow my husband home and then carried my 75 pound dog into our house! We also want to sing the praises of the wonderful team of nurses (who took and sent me pictures of my dog before and after surgery) and a shout out to Dr Geren Thurston and her diagnostic abilities. Update: so PAWS has weighed in but sympathy does not change the situation. From PAWS reply: "When Dr. Keaner examined Archie at his visit, he did not detect swelling, distention, or abnormalities in his abdomen and his abdomen itself was non-painful on palpation. Certainly, in cats especially, swellings and masses can change shape, size, and position over time. " Archie was about 9 pounds and that was fur and bones. Certainly tumors/masses can change over time but less than 24 hours later a different vet finds a palm-sized mass? No, Dr. Keaner missed the mass. As I said previously I would have done things differently if I had known at PAWS that Archie had a large mass. Dr. Keaner may have written "ultrasound" on his notes but that was never mentioned to me either by him or the cost of from the tech. "Many families have expressed your frustration of receiving this information over the phone, but an equal number have expressed concern about the contact it would require to review this plan in person at the carside. I will certainly talk with the team about our process and we are always glad to provide a printed copy or email copy so pet parents can have the information in front of them and read along while they speak with the technician to get the details. " So what I hear from this is YOU,the client, must ask PAWS for a printout because they will not (and did not in my case) offer it on their own. Keep that in mind.
