I have had nothing but good experiences with River Road Pet Clinic. Our previous vet office was okay but had too many patients and thus did not really have a lot of time to spend with me or my dog. Visits at my previous vet were always super rushed. River Road Pet Clinic, on the other hand, has always been attentive to our needs. They listen to what we have going on and provide info on procedures done, issues with our pet, etc. In the past we had to sedate our dog just to get his nails clipped but here, the vet techs were able to do it with him wide awake. I truly believe this is because of their calm and compassionate care. I appreciate the staff's patience with my slightly anxious dog. I trusted River Road Pet Clinic with my Chihuahua, Kimo, for years. For most of that time, I was happy with his care, which makes what happened at the end of his life even more devastating. One morning, Kimo suddenly became very ill. He was nauseated, vomiting and regurgitating, and could not keep even water down. I called River Road Pet Clinic, and they squeezed him in that morning, which I appreciated. They gave him medication, placed him on IV fluids, and took X-rays. I was told they could not find anything seriously wrong, and Kimo was sent home at around 10 a.m. Over the next six or seven hours, he did not improve. He became progressively worse. By then River Road was closed, so I rushed him across town to Veterinary Emergency Group. Within minutes of arriving at VEG, they performed an ultrasound and discovered that Kimo's gallbladder had ruptured. I was told it had likely happened much earlier, possibly the night before or that morning. By that point, there was nothing that could be done to save him, and I had to make the heartbreaking decision to end his suffering. The following day, a veterinarian from River Road called to ask how Kimo was doing. I had to tell her that he had died. She said she was sorry and wished she had been there. I cannot adequately describe how upsetting that response was after what had happened. My dog had presented that morning with severe gastrointestinal symptoms, could not keep water down, received approximately $700 worth of treatment and diagnostics, and was sent home without the condition that ultimately killed him being identified. Hours later, an emergency hospital found the problem almost immediately with an ultrasound. I understand that medicine is not perfect and that not every condition can be diagnosed immediately. But based on my experience, I believe Kimo's symptoms warranted more investigation, additional imaging, or a referral to an emergency or specialty hospital rather than simply sending him home. Knowing that he spent those final hours becoming increasingly sick and uncomfortable is something I will carry with me forever. I was also extremely disappointed that River Road never offered to refund or even discuss the roughly $700 I had paid that morning for care that ultimately failed to identify the emergency Kimo was experiencing. Kimo was my baby, and I trusted this clinic to recognize when something was seriously wrong with him. That trust is gone. Based on what happened to Kimo, I cannot recommend River Road Pet Clinic. If your pet is acutely ill and you feel something is seriously wrong, I would strongly consider going directly to an emergency veterinary hospital where ultrasound and other advanced diagnostics are immediately available. read more

I am absolutely horrified by my experience with River Road Pet Clinic. This was the most disappointing veterinary experience I have had in over 10years of pet ownership. I have brought both of my dogs to this clinic before without issue. This visit was completely different. My senior Boston Terrier has a history of fear during veterinary examinations due to abuse before I adopted her. She is not an aggressive dog--she is friendly & social, but becomes fearful when restrained or examined by strangers. Before she was taken to the back, I informed the technician that she becomes defensive during veterinary handling. Despite this, no one asked about her history, what techniques had worked previously, whether I should remain present, or how best to approach her care. Within minutes, she was returned & I was told she would not be treated. Dr. Crocker entered the room without introducing himself, handed me a packet about muzzling, & informed me that my dog would not be welcome at the clinic unless she arrived muzzled. My dog is a Boston Terrier, a brachycephalic breed with a very short snout. I was told she needed to be muzzled, yet staff were unable to successfully muzzle her themselves due to her anatomy. There was no discussion of alternatives, no attempt to problem-solve, & no effort to understand her history. When I asked what could be done, I was told they could not compromise staff safety, & Dr. Crocker left the room. He spent less than 3minutes with me, including discussing my other dog's visit. What troubled me most was not that staff prioritized their safety--it was that there appeared to be no attempt to gather information, discuss options, or work collaboratively to create a plan for a fearful dog who has successfully received veterinary care for the past 10 years. My dog has never bitten anyone, yet no alternatives were discussed or attempted during this visit. No one asked what had worked at other veterinary clinics or how she had successfully received routine veterinary care throughout her life. I assumed that if I was not being asked to assist, the staff were experienced in handling previously abused dogs & would explore appropriate options before refusing treatment. To make matters worse, her vaccination record was documented as "will bite; needs to come in muzzled." That statement lacks important context & portrays her as aggressive when she is fearful during examinations. My younger dog's visit was also concerning. I paid for a physical examination, yet during the less than 10minutes she was in the back with staff, the veterinarian was in the exam room with me. After reviewing the medical record, I was surprised to find that the physical examination notes consisted only of "nervous demeanor" & "mild gingivitis." In over a decade of pet ownership, I have never seen such a sparse examination record. There was no documentation of findings for the remainder of her physical exam, leaving me questioning how thorough the examination actually was. Within 1hour of receiving 3vaccinations, my 13-pound dog developed a visible injection-site lump larger than a golf ball & began limping. In the 6years I have owned her, she has never experienced a reaction like this following vaccinations. After discussing the reaction with another vet, I was left with concerns about whether the vaccination protocol used was appropriate for a dog of her size. I contacted the clinic & sent a photo of the reaction. While I was offered the option to bring her back, I was also told that no treatment would be provided unless she was experiencing symptoms such as vomiting/hyperventilation & was advised to use cold compresses at home. Given the concerns I already had regarding the handling of both of my dogs during this visit, this response did little to reassure me. I left feeling that both of my dogs were mishandled & that neither received the level of care, communication, compassion, or professionalism I expected. This experience was upsetting, dismissive, & completely unacceptable. I will not be returning. read more

This is a clean, kind and quick appointments vet clinic. The veterinarians seem very competent a d have handled minor medical issues for my dogs. I like the ease of scheduling and the availability of appointments. Pricing is reasonable. So far 2 of my 6 pets have been to River Road and we will continue to have our pets seen there. Dr. Crocker appears to me to be intelligent, caring, calm, and dependable. I enjoy his summaries after my cat has had his exam. The staff is polite and professional, just like Dr. Crocker! We live in an age of declining values. But, Dr. Crocker doesn't seem to subscribe to trends. He and his people represent an alternate to the decline in our society. Staff is inconsiderate and lacks empathy and compassion. My fur baby passed away a day after the doctor gave them a steroid shot that my partner did NOT consent to. We have been trying to get a hold of management and have not received any calls for longer than a two-week period. Our hearts are shattered... Clinic is conveniently located by the Whole Foods and Petco. There's plenty of parking. Office is clean and they only allow one person in the exam room with the doctor due to COVID-19. The doctor was friendly, patient, and he answered all of my questions. However, I would prefer the physical exam be performed in front of me. Instead, an assistant took my cat out of the exam room to the back to get her weight, and the doctor performed his exam there as well, out of sight. Prices are reasonable. Overall a very quick and painless visit, for both my pet cat and my wallet! read more

Dr. Crocker is awesome and compassionate. We have a 2.5-year-old Poodle that we have raised since she was 6 months old. He is her Veterinarian. For several days our Poodle was licking her paw nonstop, and eventually a cyst-like lump appeared there. We were worried what that might be. Dr. Crocker scheduled surgery for her within a few days to identify the cause. After he finished the surgery, he called me & my husband to assure us that it was successful. The cause was a foxtail seed that was embedded in the skin between her toes. We were so relieved! Dr. Crocker is conservative in his approach and he always takes his time to answer our questions. We never felt that we were rushed out the door. His staff is just as nice as he is. Thank you Dr. Crocker. Keep up the good work! read more

Another great year with River Road Pet Clinic! Dr. Crocker is fantastic and we really enjoyed my visit. Prices are competative and affordable. Prescription food is also priced very well. Clinic is always clean and organized. Team members are friendly, helpful and skilled at their craft. My Husky isn't always easy to handle but the techs here are able to soothe him over and make him feel safe. I don't go anywhere else and I drive 40 miles round trip to visit this location. We love Dr. Crocker and he's been a wonderful addition to the River Road family. Clinic is open 6 days a week, closed Sunday. Walk in welcome but appointments preferred. read more

The facility is extremely clean and the staff all very friendly and caring, including the Vet. This will absolutely be Jack's Vet Clinic for everything moving forward. After visiting several Vets in town for information on their services, I walked into River Pet Clinic and was greeted by a smiling Brittany who answered all my questions, was very personable and gave me a folder with info on the facility and what our puppy would need. They were not the cheapest but... First impressions matter and I chose them because of that first connection. I have not been disappointed. I took my cat here and the next day he died. They gave him a shot that I did not consent to and when i called to speak to someone they said the manager would call me back the same day or the next day. It's been 2 and a half weeks and I still haven't received a call regarding the situation and when i called again today the women that answered didn't apologize or anything which if i worked at a pet clinic and had a patient literally die i would be more considerate and try to accommodate as much as possible. I wouldn't recommend coming here to anyone because again they gave my cat a steroid that i did not consent to! The doctor didn't even tell me to look out for any reactions or if it could cause any reaction. I told the doctor his history and he was a bigger cat so he should have made the smartest and safest decision and take all precautions since this was his first visit at that clinic. I wouldn't be as mad if i consented to it but i only consented to the antibiotic that he recommended but again he gave him another shot which was a steroid that he did not mention to me. Stella our old cat hurt herself somehow and couldn't really walk. This was on a Saturday and every place we usually go wouldn't see her and wanted to send us to a 24 clinic where the prices were ridiculous. We called River Road and they answered and got us in within the hour. Dr. Crocker and the cat whisperer assistant were super kind and compassionate. Stella was examined and she was feeling better just with the touch of the doctors. Seriously...they could have asked for an x-ray and didn't...super honest and compassionate. Horrible experience. First time I went it was good and I liked it. Second time, the old lady helping me was very rude and wouldn't help me. The doctor told me on the first visit he would be giving me heart guard for free for the first few months until we knew what size my dog would be. But this old lady said I couldn't get it and when I asked to talk to the doctor, she told me I had to pay $61.(some change). Just to speak to the doctor about what he had told me last month at my visit. Do not recommend at all. I was going in for a $25 shot and she said I had about $200 worth of stuff that I did not need. In order to even say a word to the doctor I would've had to pay for all that extra stuff I did not need. What kind of vet charges for me to talk to a vet while I'm taking my dog in for shots that I'm paying for. That makes me a paying customer does it not? read more

The only complaint I have is their advisement for some kind of additional treatment which is always at enormous costs. We adopted our dog at the humane society. We were told that most vets gave a first-exam discount for dogs adopted by the humane society. We were already clients of this vet's clinic, so we took our new dog there. They told us they do not offer that discount, because their exams were "too comprehensive." I think that it is a shame that these vets, who claim to care for animals, can't offer a one-time discount to help stray dogs get adopted. My dog had to go into the clinic to get an infected tooth removed. I used to see Dr. Panzero with dogs I have had in the past, but this time my dog saw Dr. Yaeger. She went through a thorough consultation with me and my dog before her surgery. She called twice to give me updates on how my dog was doing throughout the day. I love everything about this clinic. They are one of the only places that see rabbits since they are considered exotic. Their staff is friendly but also truest cares about my pet and my concerns. I never feel rushed out or like they are too busy for me. They cuddle and love my rabbit as much as I do. My Newfie had been having problems with his back legs for several months and I had been taking him to a vet in Colorado while spending the summer there. When I got back to AZ he suddenly deteriorated quickly and I was able to get him in with Dr Olsen on the day I called for an appointment. Everyone from the front desk, vet tech, to Dr Olsen was absolutely wonderful to my sweet boy, my family and myself. I took my rabbit here during an emergency and I really appreciated the way we were treated! There are not a lot of vets who know how to work with rabbits but Dr. Yeager did a great job. I've been taking my dogs and cat to River Road Pet Clinic for at least 15 years. Dr. Panzero has successfully extended the life of several of my dogs by his expert removal of their cancerous growths. Dr Panzero is very knowledgeable about the latest treatments for animals and is a good communicator. I walk out of an appointment with all my questions answered and an understanding of what treatments are available for any particular issue.
