This is the only place I know around here where I can grab a bowl of pho, and I know it will taste delicious, so that's a plus. My only gripe about the pho experience is that the toppings seem rather anemic compared to other places I've been to for noodles; for example, I only had one sprig of basil leaves last time I ordered my usual pho tai (beef), some bean sprouts, and no jalapeños. I have yet to try the Chinese part of the menu or even the other Vietnamese offerings, though the hubs has, and he loved his bun (vermicelli noodles) dishes, so that might be worth trying. I do want to try their banh mis, and they look good, so that's another plus for this place. Service is always decent, the space is pretty big, and there are almost always people eating here, which is nice to see. I am not lying when I say this is the best pho. I've traveled all over America. I lived in Hawaii for 30 years (aka Asian food aplenty), and this is the best pho I've had anywhere. It was so good that I came here at least once a week when I lived in Groton! I always got pho with tripe, tendon, flank steak, and added meatballs to it. Everything is on point! It comes with a plate of fresh veggies. I always add everything plus the sauces on the table (brown sauce and sriracha). When I feel frisky I get a coconut juice (this stuff is legit!) or a bubble drink. This place also has Chinese food. So its super bonus points because the hubster doesn't do pho. So they would've gotten a five stars except they fell short in two very important areas. 1. They misplaced our order in the back and we ended waiting about 40 minutes ish for our food- to the point where three tables that came after us ate and left. 2. Their bun bo hue- was way too sweet for my preference. The meats in it were very tender and juicy but they didn't have the pork blood in it and the broth was way too sweet. It wasn't even that spicy- if anything it was just a tiny little kick. The places that they did great at were here. 1. The Chinese style roast duck (half order) was super delicious. Meaty, fork tender, juicy, not overly salted, and just a bit fatty. Ah- it reminds me of San Francisco's Chinese BBQ. That's always a plus. 2. A gentleman did come over and apologize to us about the mishap of our order. Apologizing is so big because so many places don't do it anymore. 3. Nothing special but they have all the usual Vietnamese dishes and they were good enough to satisfy my cravings. Small restaurant with takeout in a strip mall setting. I only go here to get the pho! There are no Vietnamese places anywhere else! The pho is not the best I've had but it's decent enough. There is a delicious brown sauce that they give in a small container for the soup. Sometimes I get about a teaspoon. Other times, the whole container is filled. Today I got nothing, which is upsetting because it adds so much flavor. My husband will get the Chinese food. Typically sesame chicken and fried rice. He has had a few different things and always says that it is "ok" and doesn't have much flavor compared to the other typical Chinese take out restaurants. First time trying this place for a Bun Bo salad. It was extremely good. The veggies were very fresh and well picketed. The beef slices were on the small side but there was a fair amount. We'll come back once the world is better to dine in and try their pho. read more

I finally stop in here after 5 years in Groton looking for really good Chinese food. The crab ragoons are amazing and the wonton soup is full of veggies and mushrooms, sooo good! The egg rolls had a bit of a spicy heat to them that I really liked. The best was the beef and mushrooms, amazingly tender. The only thing I found odd was when I called to order they said the owner wouldn't take orders for the combo dishes. I will absolutely go back. Next time I want to try the Vietnamese food. read more

When I moved to Groton from Boston, Phantasia was the first place I went to after unpacking. This Vietnamese/Chinese spot has surprisingly good pho. The broth is flavorful enough and I'm glad that they included tripe as a cut of beef (often excluded at more westernized spots). I have also had the banh xeo (vietnamese crepe) and spring rolls - none of which were disappointing. I would, however, pass on the bubble tea - while the flavors are good enough, the tapioca pearls themselves are way too soggy and overdone to the point where they no longer maintained their shape. If you enjoy eating your food and being thirsty and waiting and waiting to get more water while watching the staff talk and eat while you swallow your own spit to quench your thirst, then this is the place to go. The pho is OK. The broth has ZERO flavor but the portions are fine and it will fill you up. Without the god awful service repeatedly..... I would give this place a 3 star. I decided to fill my craving for Vietnamese food and try this local restaurant. Boasting both Chinese AND Vietnamese food, I was a bit concerned about the authenticity and quality of the food I'd receive. These worries were completely unfounded. Although both the Chinese and Vietnamese menus were extensive (with the Vietnamese menu being more than some dedicated Viet restaurants), they both had clear varieties and were not just slight variations on the same dish. This combination of variety and sheer quantity did lead to an average meal in terms of taste but, the fact that there are certain dishes here that I just haven't been able to get outside of my mother's house make this a worthwhile stop. I ordered the Goi Thit Tom (Asian salad with pork and shrimp) and Pho Dac Biet. Although the Goi appetizer was a bit pricey, it was plentiful on the meat and quantity of salad and felt quite authentic. The pho was a little bland but nothing that Hoisin and Siracha can't fix. Overall, I would say slightly above average food with a multitude of variety aids in making this place an option if you're feeling a little homesick--or just craving some Asian food! read more

I saw viet and asked, do you want pho? Well in point zero zero zero one seconds the yes is out of her mouth as she is jumping up and down in sheer excitement. Pro Tip #1: This is on the main drag regardless of its street address. It is also near the supermarket! So this is the only place that I have come across Bubble Tea on this east coast swing... While it is pricy at $4.50 a cup, it was tasty. I was disappointed that they only had the milk teas. I would have so loved a flavored tea with boba or a slushie! MMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmm... the boba itself in the bubble tea was quite tasty as well! For our main course we had Pho Tai. While it wasnt explicitly on the menu, it was on the menu. The broth was better than many that I have had in So Cal... its honestly in the middle of the pack as far as So Cal is concerned. So considering location, it was dayem good, especially as So Cal has such a massive Viet population Pro Tip #2: They dont take American Express =( On a whim I did something that I almost never do anymore, I got an appetizer as well. I ordered the eggrolls. I really enjoyed them. I dont want to know what is in them, but i sure did like to eat them. I also dipped them in the fish oil that was brought out. Craving something different to eat I decided to try Phantasia Restaurant. I thought this was like the west coast where Vietnamese often cook Chinese food with Viet food on the side. This place is the exact opposite as they are Chinese cooking Vietnamese! I tried engaging the owner in conversational Vietnamese and he laughed and quickly corrected me that he was Chinese! The Pho was acceptable and there is a very short woman that obviously was the chef doing the bulk of the cooking behind the service window. She is so tiny all I could see was the top of her head bobbing about and two hands pushing my large bowl of Pho to be served at the service counter. I got some funny looks from the wait staff as it appears they do most of their business as take out. While dining I noticed only one other Caucasian couple eating there. read more

This review is only for the two things I try here; their summer rolls and pho. It's the best pho in town! The broth taste pretty clean. The only thing is how inconsistent this place is. Sometimes I get a great bowl, but more often then not its not that great, the meat doesn't taste fresh, and the texture is often rubbery, and often times it's too much broth and not enough stuff inside. But there are times where the pho is great! The same thing goes for the summer rolls. Sometimes the ingredients are fresh and it tastes great! Other times it looks (and tastes) loose and wilted. I'm Vietnamese so I know what the food is supposed to taste like compared to other restaurants. Food: Not bad. I had the Pho Tai + some Bo Vien. The broth didn't seem like the powdery broth you just add water to. it looked and tasted like actual beef broth. I didn't stay around too long to see if it was powder or not (you'll be able to see if its powdered broth or not after you finished eating). Quality and size of the food was pretty good too. I'll return one day and try some of the other dishes. Service: Needs some improvement. I was in a party of five. Four of us had noodle dishes which came out first - One person had a rice dish which came out when the four of us were almost done eating. The owner/co-owner told us they make each dish fresh so its better quality (which is great!) but why not make that order first since it takes longer? Having everyone wait a little longer but get served at the same time is better than serving only 80% of the table and making the last person wait. Time management is key here. Also the staff/cooks should be trained on how to make all the smoothies. I ordered a smoothie off the menu only to find out no one knew how to make it. I was told I had to wait 10 minutes for the owner to come in and make it so I just canceled the drink. By the time I finished eating the owner never showed up anyways. Btw some of the drinks here are made with powder. Smoothies should be made with real fruit and not that powdery junk they keep in plastic containers where everyone can see it. read more

It was home away from home! A small quaint place that served Chinese and Vietnamese dishes! We had a big bowl of pho served family style, Chinese sausage fried rice and beef broccoli. Was excited bc yelp showed 4 stars. Ordered the spring rolls, pho dac biet, and #31. The presentation looked like a child rolled the springrolls, and the size was all disproportionate. Not that appetizing. Yelpers have said the pho is very tasty however all i tasted really was the strong cinnamon like herb. #31, lacked food, 3 shrimps, 2 slice of small thin meat, 1 quail egg, 1 fishball and a few small pieces of immitation crab meat. Though a long list, right when i saw it, i was immediately thinking they dont give enough, i didnt feel any excitement when the food hit the table. For $10 a bowl, they should add more for their customers especially when the food isnt a wow factor. I have been to a lot of vietnamese restraunts so i may be a bit harsher in my review. I think this restraunt has 4 stars bc Groton does not have another vietnamese restraunt in the area for residence to really compare and maybe know how good vietnamese food can taste. I had such high hopes for this place. I'm in love with Little Saigon in Norwich and hoped their sister restaurant would do well. For the first few visits, things were ok...but now, food and service are suffering. First off - do not order Chinese food here. It is just AWFUL. It's not cooked correctly and it's either greasy or salty. You are better off going to Chinese Kitchen in Groton. Today I had a noodle dish and the noodles bordered on crunchy. I grew up eating Vietnamese food and this was such a mockery of this noodle dish. Then the waitress had the nerve to say to me, "well....the vegetables are crunchy....maybe that's what you're tasting...." NO....the NOODLES were CRUNCHY. Sorry lady....you might be able to fool most people, but I know better. Service has also gone downhill. The waitress took forever to get our food. People came in after my friend and I and they got their food before we did. There is no sense of urgency. I won't be going back. I'll stick to Little Saigon, thanks. read more

What a great find! Thanks Yelpers. They have only been open a month or so and I was primarily interested in trying their Vietnamese dishes. The place looked very clean and chic. You could see the cooks in the opening to the kitchen which I liked and I was also informed that the chef was from Vietnam. I had the beef and shrimp Pho and my wife had the beef Pho. Our dishes were delicious. A small side plate came with fresh basil, lime and bean sprouts to add to the soup. A very nice touch. We got our 2 year old daughter the chow mein, rice and boneless ribs combination. It made sense at $7. It was huge, fresh, not greasy at all. Lasted as a left over for her and me. They provided free tea when we arrived and I ordered the avocado shake. I was skeptical at first but it was very good. Like a vanilla milkshake. I wasn't sure if it would be good for children but it was and they had a few high chairs. The wait staff was also excellent and explained to us the dishes and what was in it. I have only tried a few dishes so my view is limited. I plan on going back really soon to try other dishes on the menu, even the Chinese ones. I asked about desert and the waitress explained they had not developed their desert list but I could try one of their sample creations. They served a tapioca milk pudding with a potato like plantain in it. I thought it was OK. I am sure it was very authentic although I wasn't digging the flavors. My wife didn't like it.
