Im trying to support local businesses more. I seen this place on triple D and decided to give it a try. This was during the Covid (phase 1 carry out only). The salad is fresh. I did have to add some salt and pepper. You can get this as a main dish or side. This is a side portion. It was definitely worth trying. I heard their wraps are good too. I would suggest to call or go up to the restaurant before placing a order online. They don't keep their online information up to date and for that I had to give them a four star. Food is pretty good and the outside patio is nice, but I usually only go if it's a last resort situation. Although I've never had a bad experience with the food itself, it always ends up questionable, missing something, or just straight up looking messy enough that it looks unappetizing. This place used to be my go to for anything- food, bar hangs, or drinks on the patio. Especially after gold rush closed (rip). It was always solid and the atmosphere was chill. At some point this place seemed to attract more rowdiness and less chill people. I haven't ever been at night but I can't imagine it gets any better. I used to be able to go sit at the bar on any given afternoon and be totally fine and no one would bother me, but as a woman in her 20's I can't say I'd ever willingly be alone in there now. Stopped in for lunch recently with my fiancé. Stood at the counter for about 4 minutes while 2 employees looked at us multiple times from the open kitchen area. Finally upon deciding to take our order, 1 of said employees appeared to be intoxicated in some fashion. We ordered 2 sandwiches and 2 drinks-- it took us multiple times repeating this simple order for the employee to finally get it rung in. The whole interaction was very odd and uncomfortable. Atmosphere was dark and damp, furniture was dirty. Old menus covered up with tapestries, and a generally unwelcoming vibe. Food was mediocre at best, and took a while to come out even though we were 2 of 6 patrons in the restaurant. I had driven by this place multiple times and I had been wanting to try it-- what a let down. We will 100% not be back. read more

I am never in the area, but work brought me out here, and we decided to have a team lunch here. It's attached to an Ace Hardware, and if you didn't know it was there, you'd miss it. The vibe is caribbean/rustic warehouse. There's plenty of seats and even some outdoor patio seating. The menu offers a variety of salads, wraps, and sandwiches. And a good assortment of different flavor hummus. I ordered the Big Jerk, which is the pork sandwich, and a side of chipotle hummus and pita. The sandwich was good, the pork had good flavor and carmelized onions brought a touch of sweetness, the best part was the rolls - soft and delicious. I just wish there was a spicier sauce, the remoulade nor the bottle hot sauce did it for me. The chipotle hummus was delicious and a good portion, but needed more pita. Overall a good experience, the service was fine - food did not take long at all to come out and everyone was nice. Will definitely be back if work takes me back in the area. read more

This is a place with great vibes, great service, and great food. I live in East Nashville where there are many great eateries, but I gladly drive to Donelson to patronize Phat Bites. As a vegetarian, I appreciate that PB offers good, solid meatless meals that are not just afterthoughts. The veggie sandwich and the black bean burger are fantastic, dressed and prepared really well. PB's sides are delicious. Don't overlook the marinated vegetables. They were a meal highlight! I can't get enough of them. PB's mac-n-cheese is wonderful. It's probably the best I've ever had. My boyfriend, from whom it's difficult to extract a compliment, had the 4/20 burger last night and commented, "Wow. This is a good burger." (Trust me: that's significant coming from such a laconic man. He actually said it a couple more times while we were there - like he was pretty impressed.) I've never had breakfast at PB, but it's on my bucket list. I looked over the breakfast menu when I was there last night and my mouth was watering. It's a great breakfast menu, not skimpy, full of variety. PB has had live music each time I've been there. Yall come over to my house and let me teach you how to make a hamburger! That was the worst 420 hamburger ever had in my life. The bread was soggy, chewy, meat dry, bland taste. Grilled onions were greasy, scalloped potatoes were dry and close to mashed potatoes. The mac n cheese was cold didn't taste freshly made and served in a small clump of tinfoil Inside a Styrofoam box. Ambience is OK. They had live music. The building is the old two rivers Ford. So you're literally eating where they used to work on cars and change oil. The mechanics hoses still hang from the ceiling. I support local if you can cook like my Grandma and grill like my Dad. When I got there, I stood for a while before anyone said anything to me. "Pick up?" "Yeah." "Name?" "Alexis." "Here you go. [Hands me bag.] Wait. [Takes bag back.] Did someone make a tuna melt?" There was no sandwich in the bag she was about to give me. They find a sandwich sitting on the table, open it, make sure it's a tuna melt, and put it in my bag. "Here." They were busy. And it seems hectic in there. But just being there was stressing me out, so I'll probably stick to takeout if I go back! That being said, my tuna melt was pretty great. WOW... what a bad 1st experience. The worker at cash register takes orders and serves food all at the same time without any GLOVES . Food is mediocre... ordered "hot affair" sandwich. We're sitting at the table eating our food and here comes a BIG DOG walking around through the tables like it's the owner... needless to say dog hair floating around see pic attached. Realistically, 3/5 because of service and health code concerns, but the food and drinks were so good, that I'm bumping it to 4. My friends and I came here for brunch for the first time and loved it so much that we will be back. Phat bites is tucked away next to an ace hardware, that you'd probably miss it if you didn't know that. It's in an older building and has a funky interior. Inside is a bit warm and grungy feeling, but it's the character that I think they are going for! Upon entering, you order at the counter and then can go choose your own table. They have both a menu on the boards or you can get a paper menu near the register. Since it was brunch, we all opted for the omelet and waffle bar. It's 11.99 and you can choose from one or the other or get a combo of both (small portion of each). It comes with potatoes and then one side item. All of the sides looked good, but we opted for fruit since it was breakfast food. The line itself took awhile because someone else was making it for you, and even though she had 3 skillets, that's a lot to manage. The omelet was a huge portion and the fruit was very refreshing. We also decided to get mimosas and they do one for $5 or bottomless for $12. Had I known their pour, I would've done one. Phat bites does not skimp on the champagne. The entire glass was champagne and a drop of OJ to make the Orange appearance. You have to order drinks separately at the bar. Not an issue at all! My biggest concerns are potential health code violations as some of the kitchen seemed a little unsanitary for serving the general public. But not enough for me to not want to go back..it sort of was like if we had an omelette bar and kitchen at home. The ingredients for the omelets were sitting out the entire time we were there and there was no glass or screen between them and the patrons..kind of gross. However, we spent 4hrs there just enjoying ourselves and will be back.The food tasted good, mimosas were heavenly, and they even had a band start playing in the afternoon. I would recommend them to fix some of their habits and for patrons to recognize that when going in. In addition to that, I could see service being slow and a hit or miss. The burgers oh MAN THE BURGERS. They were so delicious. I had the Wisconsin burger and my partner ordered the black bean burger. They were both incredible. I also go the Brussels sprouts special which was the icing on the cake. The only reason I am not giving it the full 5 stars is because when I went I had to order at the bar, the bartender there was not very friendly. She was stand-offish and her attitude was just lame. Not sure if she was having a bad day but I hope it was just a one time thing. read more

Stopped in late by chance after visiting "NashVegas". We decided the strip was a bit too busy for us after a 12 hour car ride. Had a drink off the strip and ended up here since it was closer to our hotel. What an effing gem! Stevie the bartender is an awesome human. The locals there, fun and easy to vibe with. We had chicken and steak taco's, they were soooo yummy... fajita style and some bomb dipping sauce. Good conversation, good company and good times! Wow! I've been on a mission to try a black bean burger for months. But as a (beef) burger fanatic, it's hard for me to forgo one of those to try a burger made of black beans. But I can say that Phat Bites' black bean burger blew me away and has set the bar very high for the next one I try. The patty itself is amazing. I was worried that it would taste like a flat, dried out slab of black-bean paste. But it was so flavorful and the texture was surprisingly close to beef -- it was very savory. I wouldn't necessarily describe it as "meaty," but it was far from a slab of black beans. The ciabatta bun was airy and somewhat crisp, which added a nice balance to the slightly mushy patty. I opted for the chipotle hummus on the side. I didn't want to overpower my first black bean burger, but after I tried a bite I knew it would be a fitting addition to the burger. It was spicy, but not overwhelmingly slow. The atmosphere inside Phat Bites is worth a review on its own. It's by far one of the most eclectic restaurants I've visited. And every member of the staff that I conversed with was incredibly friendly and helpful. I wish they served Diet Coke, but everything else was so good that I didn't miss it. read more

Love this place! I knew I would instantly when i drove up and it's located next to an Ace Hardware and not downtown. Lots of great parking and outdoor dining too. It is a dive bar but a deli too. The inside is friendly, welcoming, unpretentiousness and eclectic just like the people. They even have a stage to highlight local entertainment. You order at the counter (or bar), take a number and they deliver to your table. Good space to celebration. We had a brunch breakfast. Everyone enjoyed their food choice. I had a veggie omelette, fruit, and potatoes come with it. We had some order the avocado toast or waffles. Many got the $20 bottomless mimosas which is a good bargain if you plan to have more than 2. I decided on a Bloody Mary. It was perfect. The staff is friendly. They didn't mind that we lingered around a minute chatting after eating. I took a star off for the entertainment. They can be a little inconsistent with the amount of toppings, but they are always delicious. But let's get to the important part...the food. The Turkey Wrap. I keep coming back for it. Roast Turkey. Green Apple. Cranberries. Goat Cheese. Cheddar. Dijon. Tomato. Lettuce. Mayonnaise. I'm not sure I ever had such an adventuerous combination of food before in a sandwich. But, it works! And has become one of my all-time favorite sandwiches/wraps. Hummus Envy. First off...the hummus at Phat Bites is the bomb. So many different flavor options, and all so good. This is a platter of pita chips, and your choice of at least two hummus flavors. They top it with pesto, balsamic reduction, goatcheese, red peppers, and MAGIC. Holy Crap its so good. Kickin' Chickn Salad. Your breath will be kickin' after you eat this, but its so worth it! I could just drink that homemade ranch dressing from the cup its so good. I've tried many of their other sandwiches/salads, but these were my top 3. I have been coming here for years. I have always loved the food and the art. Went in today - this is the first time I went in at the new location as I don't come to Donelson often. Still the same great sandwiches! I got the mufaletta today. The olive tapenade was wonderful. I really savoured each fattening bite. I never have enough room to eat anything else. They have great looking salads too! Lots of awesome art. Heard a rumour that they were scouting east Nashville locations! EDIT: Lots of bad reviews here. For me, my sandwich only took about 7 minutes to make. And there were two people in front of me. The menu behind confused me at first, but it didn't take long to figure it out. Street signs I understand, would have been useful, but I found out about the new location via word of mouth. And I am ok with that.
