We had a graduation party last month. My sister ordered pancit, lumpia and afritada. The pancit doesn't have taste, lots of veggies, no meat & pale. The lumpia are size of a finger. They bought lumpia in bags that need to be fried. Guests likes it better than the ordered one. There was left over from the afritada. It didn't look appetizing. Wow! Just had the place we frequent diss us so hard. Their time says they close 8:30. We came at 8:04pm and they said they were already closing. My wife practically begged since there were still food in their trays, but yet they persisted to not serve us. We ended up just getting fish fried. As we were waiting, 15 mins later, a guy comes and also begged and they somehow bent and let the guy buy food. We saw what happened and made sure they saw how displeased we were. The guy that bought food saw us and said "I had to beg, man" I replied that "we did the same!". The lady that served him saw us and turned quickly to ignore my wife as she tried to approach to see if she could at least get rice for our fish. But rudely ignored us. We're not the type to make a scene so we just let it go. But that was the rudest customer service we've experienced. Was there yesterday for takeout lunch and saw this breakfast special sign and thought "It's been awhile since I had corned beef; I'll get that for breakfast tomorrow". Got there this morning, placed my order for the breakfast special with the female worker, and was told that offer is no longer available. I looked at her and said "You have a sign there. Shouldn't it be taken off if you're not offering it". She then turned to coworker and spoke to her in Tagalog (which I'm Ilocano so didn't understand what she is saying). Then turned to me to tell me they have corned beef but can not do the special. To the owner; please respect your customers by honoring what you advertise. Have come to this place twice in last few weeks and pretty happy with selection and quality of their food. Only two good options in my opinion in the area for good pinoy food. this place and Trinings in the Ranch 88 store off Ynez. This place has more selection and variety of entrees along with all the fried favorites including Fried Dilis, Crispy Pata and Lechon Kawali. They are located inside the Island Pacific Grocery store that carries most of your Pinoy grocery needs even though on a smaller scale than a seafood city. I'm giving them 4 stars just based on price. they are on the high side with a 3 item combo going for over $16 vs about $10 in San Diego. Overall a good option for the area and I'm sure i'll be back. read more

A buddy of mine told us they had opened up a Philhouse in Lake Forest & was really excited to check it out. We frequent Pam's & recently tried Manilla FoodMart both have their Pro's & Con's like any restaurant & Philhouse is really no different. Initially I was very impressed by the choices of food & how many people they had behind the counters to put your order together. The line was long but it moved in a good pace! PLUS!!! The food looked fresh & I had the standard to "taste test" choices. Chicken Adobo, Bistek or "beef steak" with a side of Lumpia Shanghai (of course)!! (BIG SIGHHHHH!!!) rather disappointed, I thought, "Do I have a cold" because I can't really taste anything? Nope, no cold or flu or COVID but the food was just bland. Not bad but just bland. Bistek is one of those dishes that varies widely from city to city & restaurant to restaurant & I prefer the style that "Crispy House" makes then maybe the old "Leiland" place. Pam's isn't great, it's a little on the oily side but it's definitely better than here in flavor & texture. The bistek here had no flavor & was just boiled meat & tough the adobo was once again bland & too many sharp bones within the mix. The Lumpia I think was just the store bought which they deep fried. Don't get me wrong I know places like this are built for mass & speed but the flavor was just not there at least for my 3 choices. In the end I'd actually give them another shot & will be back when it's not as busy. Maybe I'll try other choices like their BBQ & Afritada or Pork Adobo this time. read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! My husband just informed me that Philhouse closed on him when he arrived at 8:12pm saying that they were closed when in fact they are supposed to close at 8:30pm per their website hours and per yelp hours. My husband said there was 2 ppl in front of him who received service and then they closed on him when there was no one else in line after him. My husband was there to just get pancit and chicken BBQ. According to my husband they still had plenty leftovers. My husband had to beg but the person was INCONSIDERATE! I see that this is not the only time Philhouse did this according to the other review I have seen. This is misinformation on their part if they are telling their customers in person that they are closed at 8pm, but their website and yelp states otherwise. People take time out to drive wherever they're from, with very high gas prices, to order their food before the closing time (8:30pm) that is given on their website and yelp, to only be shunned away. MISINFORMATION, NO CONSIDERATION ,and POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE ON PHILHOUSE! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! EITHER UPDATE YOUR WEBSITE AND YELP HOURS INFORMATION OR PROVIDE CUSTOMER SERVICE EDUCATION & SKILLS TO YOUR STAFF !!!! This has already happened more than once, so you need to fire the employee(s) who's telling customers they're closed or change Management with people who care about their customers. I wonder... if there is so much food left when they "close" , do staff take them home ? Is that way they don't want to serve their customers because they take food home ???? According to Government's food & safety guidelines, restaurants are not supposed to take food home so why would you want to deny Customers of business if they are willing to pay, are there before closing time (8:30pm per website and Yelp), & there are still plenty of food leftover ???? Wouldn't a restaurant try to give out as much food as they can to paying customers so that much of it don't go to waste ???? Apparently that is not what is happening at Philhouse and they should be ashamed of themselves! If you want great Customer Service and way better food, I recommend Trining's next to 88 Ranch. It might be a little longer drive for those who lives by Pechanga side, but it's definitely worth the drive, worth the food, & worth the Customer Service! We catered for a party. We didnt expect the lumpia to be bite size instead of regular size. Bbq pork and chicken arent too special either. My Filipino in laws' food are way better. Adobong pusit (squids) are good to me but my Filipino husband said it's too inky for his taste so I'm not sure about that. The price isnt cheap either.
