I want to update my review. The food is delish. The owner and staff are great guys. The place is casual, with the game on and friendly conversation and good Philly style subs. So, regarding my prior words, well,... that most likely was written by my idiot alter ego who was obviously being a dork thinking he was the only one who ordered food that day and... uh, anyway moving on, I still go there and will continue to order their subs while avoiding the rush. When there is a crowd, you know the food is good... so you can pretty much ignore that previous whiney entitled commentary and enjoy a Philly with root beer. Cheers! read more

The roll is so soft you can pull the entire sandwich apart with your bare hands. No knife required. Made me feel like the Hulk, or Thor, whichever Avenger is the strongest. The interior ingredients are diced up and combined perfectly. You easily get a bite of everything and the texture is perfect. I may comment that the meat could be higher quality but all and all they make a wonderful Philly, 8.5/10. read more

Finally tried this place and glad I did. Had the Philly Cheesesteak with the Works and was a bit worried about the addition of avocado, but the flavor blended nicely with everything else and was most tasty. Had the smaller size sandwich combo meal and it was enough for two meals. Parking setup is kind of a pain as there is only one way in and out so you have to flip a u-turn which could be difficult if the lot is fairly full. I am so lucky to have stumbled across this small family owned shop. I had a really bad craving/phase for getting subs and cheesesteaks and this is one of the two places that I visit. On here in east county and another in north county. The food here is really tasty and it seems like a very friendly local place. Lil hard for some people to realize it's here but the location is very easy to get to. Right behind police station. Owner is very friendly as well and I have my go to 10In cheesesteak when I get here. I am definitely a guy who enjoy spicy food, I'd recommend they experiment with cherry peppers but other than that the food is beyond fantastic. If u are craving some nice sandwiches and wanna support local, I'd recommend stopping by. They def deserve it. I am from the city of brotherly love and grew up on great cheesesteaks from Jim's and the Reading Terminal. This place ain't that but it's not too far off...the "secret" to any cheesesteak is The Bread as it holds all the cheese, meat, grilled onions...this bread fell apart/broke down and that was a bummer but maybe it was the "travel time" of 10 minutes. I also got the steak fries and they were tasty... I'll be back to give this another turn but now it's just 4/5 stars... Last piece is the Philly Vibe in there and it was strong!! read more

$15 for a Philly cheese steak, wasn't very crowded but there was only one chef there and it took 20 minutes for it to come out. The flavor is a 6.5/10 at best, it doesn't have much flavor, and very greasy. Wont be back, regret the $15 spent on meal. Didn't offer any condiments either. read more

Was doing business at El Cajon Police and stumbled onto this place. Love to hit these small mom and pop places whenever I'm out and about. They had old school rock n roll music playing and some old stuff on the walls. The old Cheech and Chong album took me back to my teenage days. This looks like you're run of the mill nonstandard nonfranchised mom and pop place. Not going to win any prizes for décor or first date places. BUT, they had one of my favorite foods-Philly cheese steaks! I ordered the cheese steak with mushrooms and no mayo. Yes, surprised that they didn't have cheez wiz although I get provolone whenever I can. The sandwich came well portioned with meat and onions but the onions were way too much and they were a little burnt. I shouldn't have gotten lettuce on it as it tasted a little old or in the fridge too long. Too much bread too. I wish the counter guy would have told me about getting chips and a drink for $1.99. All in all a decent cheese steak but not real authentic and won't make my top 5 here in San Diego. read more

Picked up some subs for me and the coworker. Both got the Philly Cheesesteak with the works. It came with bell peppers, mushroom, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, and avocado. At first, I was a little hesitant with the avocado but I actually really enjoyed it. The subs were HUGE for just a regular size. I could only eat half and ended up sharing the rest with another coworker. But it was so good, my coworker ate the entire thing. I liked the sandwich but it could have been a little more toasted. I didnt enjoy the steak fries as much. They were slightly overcooked and was too hard to bite into. I havent found a good philly cheesesteak place since Pop's in PB closed down, but this is on the top of my list. read more

The pastrami sandwich was delicious, as was the potato salad. The turkey sandwich had some added salt to it, which made it too salty. Still, the food was good. Over all not a bad place. The food is fairly good. While its not terribly expensive it is more than I care to pay for a sandwich. You can save a buck by checking in with yelp That always helps. The place is rather small inside It looks huge from outsize.they aren't overly friendly here. My biggest issue is that they have no public restroom. I almost deleted another star just thinking of this. But I want to be fair and they do have good food so I didn't I wouldn't take friends here but I'd go if it was their choice. If they had a public restroom, were more friendly, and had an outlet for me to charge my phone I'd add a star. read more

Meat is dry, and the bread not toasted to my satisfaction even though I said no cheese they gave me cheese and had to redo the whole thing (20 minutes later) I, specifically indicated a desire for toasted dark brown bread, what I received was anything but. They also need to change the oil, fries tasted like fish. Too many other places in town to dine at for a good Philly. Gaglione Bros & Wich Addiction comes to mind. I cannot say this is the best Philly cheesesteak I've had but I could say it was pretty good. It lacked flavor/seasoning as I added a little salt when at home but it still wasn't seasoned as if it been marinated all together or cooked together. .... I like the fact that I got a lot of onions, bell pepper and a few mushrooms. I like my cheesesteaks as such but I was quite shocked when I saw lettuce, mayo and tomato added to a regular sub. I asked the cashier if I could substitute the lettuce, mayo and tomato for bell peppers and he stated they don't do substitutions. Say what???? So I ended up getting the works with avocado, mushrooms, bell pepper, onions, meat, cheese and the bun ... minus the lettuce, tomato, mayo and asked for the avocado on the side. Damn that was a hassle. What happened to being able to order a Philly cheesesteak the way you like it????? Guess I still got what I wanted for a buck extra in a large sub.... I save the other half for later as it did get a little soggy but that's as expected. The quality of the bun was good but also not the best. Just had the best Philly cheesesteak sandwich ever. Found this place on Yelp. Been here supposedly since 1972 but never knew it existed until today. To me, this place is a great find. Parking is available but tight because of the small parking spots and a narrow lot that goes only one way. You exit where you entered. I actually thought about going in reverse to get out. Chose instead to maneuver my SUV and turn around. Took some work but no problems. Thought the place was dead at first but was mistaken. They receive phone orders for pick-up all day. The steady stream of people picking up food was endless while I was there. On this day, two guys behind the counter were cranking out sandwich after sandwich. It was 25 minutes before I got my sandwich but it was well worth the wait. Note to self. Calling in my order beforehand isn't a bad call. So I ordered the regular Philly cheesesteak, potato salad and a coke. Everything hit the tastebuds just perfect. The cheesesteak first. The bread toasty and soft kept all the ingredients- skirt steak, provolone cheese, little bit of lettuce and tomato with a good amount of grilled white onions cut into small bits. Amazing. The regular was good sized and filling so I am guessing the large is just crazy large. Again amazing. The potato salad is the classic potato salad that mom makes. What potato salad should taste like. No overpowering ingredients in the recipe. All the ingredients in the potato salad compliment each other. Served chilled. Perfect. Washed it all down with a classic Coke. Overall a great early dinner. Definitely a place I can come on the regular. The dining area has a sports bar feel without the bar part. Classic 70's rock and R&B played as I ate. Support local businesses especially the good ones. Philly Steak Subs is my new favorite spot to eat. Eat here but call it in first. read more
