I was on my way to visit a friend that lives in El Cajon, so I stopped by here to pick up a couple of sandwiches for dinner to share. We decided to split the sandwiches so we could have the best of both worlds. I ordered their original steak Philly with no mayo for $6.99 and their Hogi for $6.99 as well. The Steak Philly with the works had the thinly grilled steak of course with grilled onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and melted provolone, but no mayo for us. One word: QUALITY. This was a random quick eat my boyfriend. We wanted to eat before hitting up the Viejas outlet.... Right off Mangolia street on the 8 interstate. Can't miss it when you're driving past it - they have a huge sign. The dine in had a lot of clash going on and what I mean is there's a lot to look and read to keep you occupied with their posters and quotes hanging on the walls. The food? The Philly cheesesteak had so much flavor and you honestly can't go wrong with adding mushroom and avocado (The Works). The bread was freshly warmed up and a bit crisp... I hate I gave this place my time, and money! Not to mention this review. But this review needed to be done on so many levels. This was easliy the worse Philly sandwich I've ever eaten. It was terrible at best. The service was extremely slow, the bread was hard, and the meat didn't have a bit of seasoning. I got it with just onion, which is the way I remember it. They will add peppers and mushrooms, which is ok. They also add lettuce tomatoes and mayo, which is a no-no. The bread is excellent, I didn't ask but it tasted like authentic amoroso rolls. They use provolone, no too bad since they don't put a ton on it. Still no match for a ladle of piping hot Cheez-wiz. I used to get their sandwiches delivered but they shortened their delivery radius last year. The wife and I drove to the shop today. It's less than 6 miles away. Anyways, the sandwiches were great. I had a cheesesteak with double meat and no lettuce. When you put shredded iceberg on a hot sandwich it turns to slime. Zero gristle, the right amount of seasoning, and the veggies were caramelized. She had the pastrami. Just like the steak, it was (nearly) free of fat and had no gristle. Delicious really. My main complaint is that the place could be cleaner. The countertops were sticky and had stuck on food remnants. The front facing glass was pretty dirty too. It should be wiped down every day and well it looked like it had been a week or so. The worst sandwiches ever. Basic grilled cheese.The cheese was some kind of white cheese. That may have been my husband's fault. The bread was burned. Not just a little... black on both sides. Tried today about 30 mins ago or so and have to say this place did not disappoint!!!! We got a Philly and some chicken tenders and fries and I swear to you these were the best chicken tenders I've ever had. Perfectly hot, salty and crunchy. Prices were affordable/ reasonable . The Philly was amazing !!! Once we saw the inside we loved the vibe. The stickers add to the atheistic and loved looking at them, gave the place a younger feel. Cute little deli I'm happy to of stumbled on ! We will be back :) we shared both things we got and still had leftovers so the portions are great! Service was quick and friendly. To my utter surprise the taste wasn't bad but their method of making them was so unbelievable I wondered if the cook is from another country or what? They are supposed to be made with thinly sliced steak, onions, peppers and cheese on top not all mixed in with the other ingredients which was literally a mess, all chopped up.
