I've been eating Philly's Best for a few years. This is thee closest sandwich shop to nail East Coast subs. The sub bread is soft and chewable. (Not to be funny, but some sandwiches shops bread be hard as a damn brick.) When I eat here, I bounced back and forth from the classic Philly of Course, and the Chicken buffalo Philly with the fries. The food is made to order so it's always hot and fresh. The meat cut is perfect not to thick and not to thin. They don't over season the meat either, because that's my thing and I can't eat salty food. This particular store ia near my home so I love the convenience of only driving 10 minutes. The staff is super friendly, informative and helpful. The crew that helped me, the day I went was laid back and chill. They were cranking out orders and getting the job done! I decided to have lunch inside which was cool, because all the tables were cleaned and fully stocked with the condiments they offer. It's always nice to be valued as customers and not money bags. This place is awesome. I've come here 3 times in the past 2 months, and they never fail to amaze. The first time, I was given a free drink by the owner because "it's hot outside". What a sweetheart. The second time I accidentally forgot my debit card in the reader because I was busy putting cash in the tip jar. But they called me when I had gotten home (I called in the order, so they had my phone number) and informed me I left it. Just above and beyond the expected level of service. Of course, I'd be remised if I didn't mention the food; the Philly Cheesesteaks are the best I've ever had. My wife (she's from New Hampshire) is a bit of a cheesesteak snob, and even she loves them. We've also had the Italian and Chicken Parm (not on the menu) and they are all perfect sandwiches. The only bad thing? I have been coming here for years and took a hiatus for a while. To me the sandwiches seem to be different as another review stated. Don't get me wrong, they are still good, just not as good as I remember. This is as close to a Philly Cheesesteak as you can get without going to Philly. They get some of their ingredients from Philly and use the same of the other stuff. You order at the counter and they call you when your order is ready. The sandwiches are beefy, cheesy and hot. The Onion rings are good. They have a bar with various pickles, peppers and supplies - along with the beverage dispenser. I always get the original - Lots of cheese, meat, onions and peppers. The bread is perfect. Even when you take it home, it's still hot and fresh. Their onion rings are good too! My wife always gets extra cheese on hers, so if you're a cheese LOVER, ask for that. I ordered a Chicken w/ Mushroom Sandwich. Total was ~ $9.28. Chicken portion in the sandwich was very less. Chicken itself had a stale taste. Packaging left the entire sandwich soggy by the time I returned back to work. Typically the sandwich shops that I have been to are always on top of their game. The last not so good sandwich experience that I can remember having was at Uncle Henry's couple of years ago. I'm a fan of cheesesteaks and lately I've been seeing ads on Instagram about this place and have been wanting to try it out since. Finally I was in the area and decided to stop and give them a try. From everything I've seen on the their page they seem legit. Upon entering the place I noticed the stadium seats and the huge sign which was cool. The older gentleman at the counter was very nice. I wish I would have looked for a name badge so I can give him a shout out. I ordered 5 sandwiches (had to get some for the fam) which didn't take long for them to be ready. Very quick service. Then again it wasn't that busy at the time I visited. I had the Philly's Best which had bell peppers, mushrooms, and I added the grilled onions as well. After the 20 min drive home unwrapped that bad boy and took a bite. First off the sandwich was still very warm and the bread was soft and still very intact . Not all soggy or hard. Came here with my husband. The Philly Steak Sub was VERY bland. No flavor to the steak at all. I asked what seasonings are used. The cook replied, "We dont use any seasons". Hmmm, steak cooked with nothing (That explained it). No refunds allowed. So I was going to give a 1 star rating.... But I then thought to ask if exchanges we allowed. I was kindly given the option to exchange. So we tried the Turkey sub. The Tukey Hoagie was "ok", better. So I added a star. ...but THEN, I told the guy 2 times that the Green Tea dispenser was putting out only water. He then reloaded a new syrup...come to find it was raspberry tea hooked up to the Green Tea. I told them...they didnt fix it. They said that's how it is. Extremely disappointed to see an establishment not following covid guidelines put in place by state and local officials. I came to pickup lunch and walked up to the entry way and saw two staff members behind the counter prepping food without masks. I noticed another employee on the phone to the left leaning against a counter also not wearing a mask and talking on the phone. The restaurant also didn't look the cleanest. If this is what they're doing within a customer's view, what other health and safety guidelines do they ignore outside of the view of customers? That whole 10 seconds of what I saw grossed me out. It's a Philly's Best so I guess if you've been to one you get why every once in a while I get a hankering for it. If not I'm here to tell you that you need to try it but if you do be forewarned there is a good chance you may get hooked just like me. Don't think I have ever been disappointed in anything I ordered. As far as cold subs go don't be frightened away just because they are more known for the cheese stakes. Now don't get me wrong because the majority of the time I get the Philly's best and onions and cook the meat in the Buffalo sauce. OMG..this is actually my 3rd time hitting up this place, but mmmm good. I got myself a cheesteak, with onions, and mushrooms..and it was steaming hot, made fresh. That was one thing i did like. Fries are also made to order, so everything was hot. For the combo, you get your choice of steak or chicken sandwich, foot long, with a side of fries, med drink, and a tasty cake. Not bad at all. Price is decent for the amount of food you get. They have an all you can drink soda fountain, and condiment center, with peppers, pickles, and what not. I've never been to Philly. Never been to the east coast really, so I don't know what an "authentic" Philly cheesesteak sandwich is supposed to be like, but... I have had the hoagie cheesesteak with onions and mushrooms from this Philly's Best a couple of times. It's a savory, fulfilling sandwich. Like Subway and Quiznos, I like this place because I can see my sandwich being made, but the key differences to me are the service and the side orders. The menu is simplified. The service is usually pretty fast as far as hot, fresh made-to-order sandwiches go. The guy who typically takes my order is no non-sense, but efficient at what he does. For as busy as they always seem to be, it amazes me how clean and well-kept they keep the condiments area and the tables and chairs here. The side orders are not limited to just chips, although, they have them. I always opt for onion rings if I have someone to share with because the sandwiches are usually fulfilling enough for me. Philly's Best also has cheese fries, pizza fries, French fries, and cheesesteak fries--all of which I have yet to try. My husband really likes the pepperoni cheesesteak sandwich. Two downsides to Philly's Best and this location in particular: 1) the pricing is a little higher than I think it should be. But if I want something different and filling, I go here. 2) Parking in Downey Landing is lame sometimes. I always get lucky if I'm driving, but not so much when I'm with other people. Overall it was a decent sandwich, the bacon is crispy and a nice thickness to it, ham and turkey was shaved as if I got the bottom of the shavings so it was falling all over the place. When I moved back down from the Bay Area I panicked that I wouldn't find another decent cheesesteak in California. When I tried the Gogi Truck I panicked some more. The entire way I said "This damned place better be good" and "should we just say F it and go to McDonalds?" By that time we figured we'd gone too far. We FINALLY get there and order up a philly cheesesteak and philly cheesesteak fries to share. Food came out, and a HUGE smile crossed my face. Looks promising! I dig into the cheesesteak fries - meh. I dig add some peppers to my half of the cheesesteak and take a bite. Oh yes! It's not the best I've had, but it's the best I've had in So Cal. I decided to save the best for last and eat my share of the fries first. They were cheesy and piled high with meat. When I took that bite of my cheeseteak again it tasted oh so delicious. It's been a while since I've visited this location. And since I was in the area during dinner time & craved a Philly Cheesesteak hoagie. I asked if they had combo specials such as a hoagie, drink & fries. The cashier said, "Yes, we do." I ordered my "combo" and wound up paying a few cents under $16!!! Rather than walk out and eat elsewhere, I decided to pay since I assumed I was going to get my money's worth (like I remember it) & got my order to-go. When I came home, much to my surprise and utter disappointment, I opened the foil; only to find a soggy hoagie with bare minimum meat in it!!! It was a sad looking sandwich, my husband laughed at how lousy it looked. It wasn't very clean inside, either. Sadly, when I used to frequent this spot, it was always squeaky clean & they were very generous with their portions. I recall it busting at the seams with customers back in the day. That should've been a huge red flag for me, but I never knew it changed ownership until I read up tonight.
