I ordered via Postmates so I'm not able to comment about the ambience or staff or being in the restaurant itself. Overall, this place is a big hit for me! I've been a frequent flyer of Boo's (since I'm over in Ktown) and also quite a few orders over the years from South Philly Experience and twice from Matu (but that's a major treat and honestly way overpriced). All of these have their own great bits about them and I love all these spots. This isn't going to be a "who's better than who" since each is different in their own right and hits the spot different ways. I got the sweet pepper steak on seeded roll with of course, Cooper's! Then I got a classic Italian hoagie (with Cooper's) loaded up double meat/cheese. Biiiiig bonus using Boar's Head meats too, top shelf stuff. The fact that they're using Cooper's is a major plus and can get a seeded roll is such a nice touch. I do love a classic Amoroso, but seeded with the cheesesteak and Cooper's gives Matu a run for its money (and saves my wallet). Of course the meat quality is very different due to Matu using Wagyu but let's be real, that's really what you're paying for there. It's a nice treat but not an every other day get your money's worth. I feel I've found my favourite cheesesteak now though! The roll is super fluffy and crunchy where it needs to be. That thing was swaddled like a cared for newborn when it arrived and still hot from Melrose. Absolute 9/10 for me. The Italian was properly loaded and as I sit here enjoying it, a nice zingy break between cheesesteak bites as I split them half and half for lunch. For speed I love some Boo's, for the grill char taste I love some South Philly Experience but overall for my favourite spot now, it's Philly's Best off Melrose. Matu again is a great quality cut treat but the wait, the cost and the amount you get is not really worth it. Will absolutely be ordering from this place again in the future!! read more

Being an avid Philly Cheesesteak fans, we had to make a detour before the long drive north to try this place out after my wife saw a glowing article. It did not disappoint. The corner location is easy to spot with a small parking lot in back and meterred street parking. The interior was inviting, decorated with Philly memorabilia, art, snacks, and a few tables inside and out. There is a kiosk to order along with the cashier. After we ordered 3x Mushroom steaks and a Philly's Best Cheesesteak, the owner came out with cheese samples comparing standard American (which we ordered by default) vs Cooper's American cheese samples, informing us of the latest popular taste fads in Philly. This was an unexpected delight to find out that Cooper's and the newer Amoroso sesame rolls were nice improvements over the plain roll and standard white American cheese. Cooper's gave a pleasant sharper flavor to the normal white American cheese. The finely chopped steak, mushrooms, onions, cheese, and peppers were very generous and cooked and melted to perfection. Everything was delicious and quite filling. If you are looking for a hearty Philly Cheesesteak fix, look no further. This family run business is friendly, imports their bread, cheese, snacks from Philly, and delivers with a fantastic taste of Philly. Are you team Taylor Ham or Pork Roll? Whichever way you say this meat's name, the sandwich they have here is the best. Oh my goodness, it's so darn good with the thickest layers of porky ham topped with melted cheese. Best to eat this hot off the press (leftovers didn't reheat great) and devour as soon as it's ready if you can. It's so darn delicious. That may be a shocking beginning to this review to not mention the Cheesesteaks but I'm getting there. I was actually shocked to find Philly's Best out here in LA and all over Cali! We had a location of the chain in Chicago and I just loved it. I'm happy to report this Fairfax outpost delivers on their namesake. My friend and I have tried the usual Cheesesteak and one with Mushrooms - both being great. I had no onions on mine though and I recommend keeping those onions on the cheesesteak! It only enhanced the taste of it. Big portion, tasty eats, loved it but I found the hoagies a bit too tough. I didn't eat it in person though and brought it home to feast so it could be the difference in eating there vs to go. The cheese fries were pretty standard but I loved them and couldn't stop popping them. Love their graffiti artwork in the shop and friendly staff. I've only been to the Burbank location before I didn't even know they had one on Melrose, was super hungry so I decided to stop by! It's a little different from the Burbank location here you place your order on a kiosk and wait until your food is served! The location is pretty cool literally in the middle of Melrose so you can stop and grab a quick bite before continuing your adventure down Melrose I got the cheeseburger with lettuce extra ketchup mustard and a small amount of mayo! I've been going to the Burbank location for years, so having a Philly's Best closer to me is a win. I came here when it first opened and noticed they didn't have Old Bay at the tables or pickles yet. The owner happened to be there that day, and when I mentioned it, he made a note--and sure enough, when I came back today, both were there. Nice to see they listen. They've also got Tastykakes and Herr's chips (like the Burbank spot), but unlike Burbank, there's no fountain soda machine here--only cans and bottles. The upside is they stock some rarer options like root beer and black cherry. The menu is smaller than the Burbank location, but honestly, you're here for the cheesesteaks anyway. They've got Wiz, and you should get it--with extra--because sometimes it can be a little dry if you don't ask. Grab a window seat and watch the Melrose crowd go by while you eat--it's free entertainment. To say that I was skeptical that a little stand on Melrose could bring home that Philly Cheesesteak experience would be an understatement, however the big surprise here was not that they do an amazing cheesesteak (the last one I had before eating here was in Philly, so I know of what I speak) but their Classic Italian Hoagie 100% holds its own with the best of LA's Italian Delis. You can look at my reviews of LA delis and see that I am serious when it comes to a good Italian sub... and I was absolutely shocked that Philly's Best holds its own with the best of the best. If I am within 10 miles of this place and craving a sub in the future I will make the drive, it was THAT good. There is metered street parking, and a pay lot on the corner of Poinsettia and Melrose nearby. There is both inside and outside seating, counter seating, and counter service. They have a TV which is usually showing football, and drinks are cans/bottles in a large fridge. As a first timer I asked what they recommend and a gentleman in the back by the name of Bob said he recommends the Cooper Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich with the Sesame seed bread. It was a very tasty sandwich. The bread, which comes from the east coast, was soft, fresh and the perfect vehicle for the flat top grilled goodness. I loved that they put the cheese on the bottom so none of it drips out. The meat, veggies, and cheese were all fresh, perfectly cooked, seasoned well and overflowing out of the top of the bun. The sandwich was quite big and was all I needed to feel full and very satisfied. I haven't visited Philadelphia in person but the decor was focused on helping to create the ambience. I really enjoyed the wall mural inside the store. The cashier was friendly and helpful. He explained what a pork roll was and now I want to return to try it. The kitchen was fast with my order and the sandwich came to me hot off the grill. I parked on the street. I don't think they had a parking lot. It is on Melrose Blvd and it can be tricky to park so be aware of that. After this sandwich, I have already ventured out to another of their locations. The quality and service was excellent at both. The owners and employees are literally the sweetest, and I love how they're so accommodating and have the option of customizing/combining cheesesteak flavors if you ask. I just saw this place pop up on melrose and of course had to try it. Boo's has always been my favorite Philly in this city and tbh the bread still can't be beat. Philly's best was super hot, tasty even without getting the cheese whiz and made to order but still came out within 7-8 minutes. I got spicy peppers on one, one originally with red peppers and some cheese whiz fries and a couple hanks creams sodas (one orange). I can't ever knock a Philly till I try it.
