Single Irv's Original Roadside Burger with fries
    Alex J.

I honestly don't understand the hype around this place. The service, cleanliness, and (almost) all the food was mediocre, at best. Young kid working the register had an attitude and could barely let me speak before blurting out the next question or statement. I mentioned it was my first time and tried to get an understanding of some of the menu options. I also asked him to hold my milkshake and I would pick it up after I ate my burger and fries, to which he confirmed. Well guess what? When my order was ready - my shake was sitting there waiting and already melting. So clearly he didn't care to follow my request which he acknowledged. I ordered the single original roadside burger on a sesame seed bun with fries and an Oreo shake for about $22. The bun was the only good thing about the burger. It was toasted nicely and soft on the top. The rest was the most basic burger I've eaten in a long while. The patty was dry and bland, the sauce tasted watered down, and nothing else about the burger stood out. The fries on the other hand were perfection. If they made the burgers half as good as the fries, this would be a solid spot I'd return to. The fries were so crispy and hot on the outside with light airy and fluffiness on the inside. The "Oreo" shake? HA. This was a regular shake with maybe 2 oreos. The color alone is embarrassing. As a lifelong Oreo shake lover - this was an embarrassment to Oreo milkshakes. The interior tables were all filthy without any care from workers to come clean them too.

    Where's the beef?? Seriously. Lol

My coworker and I recently visited this place for lunch. We placed our order at the walk up window, and since it was so hot outside, we opted for the small dine in seating area in the air conditioning. I ordered the single roadside burger combo and added chiles for an additional .50. They a la carte charge an additional fee for almost everything. My order came up to about $19, which I guess is standard these days for a cheeseburger combo. I guess. In the indoors seating area, we found the music to overwhelmingly loud. For no reason. We couldn't even converse with one another, because we were both annoyed by the LOUD music and being unable to hear one another. We were able to hear our number being called through an overhead speaker that muted the music as numbers were called. I felt the order came out in a reasonable amount of time considering it was around lunch hour. I thought the fries were good! The burger wasn't anything to write home about, but I did find the bun to be very soft and it elevated the taste of the burger. This place has been checked off my list, and I don't think I'll be craving it and returning any time soon.

Love that you can sub any burger with a beyond patty! Pricing is fair and appreciate how the chili fries are packaged for delivery (with chili on the side so fries don't get soggy or too messy). Looking forward to trying their shakes in the future!

Preface: To 5 smash burger joints I'm comparing to based on Peacock's "Call Bullshit" offer on June 7th for Emmy nominated Poker Face. So this review is solely on a two bite comparison. It's a good burger. But would hardly call it a smash burger. If I weren't comparing this to four other smash burgers, then I'd rate it double the stars. But sorry!

Irv's is a part of LA history and this spot is not to be ignored. It's fresh it's good and when wrapped in lettuce it actually tastes healthy. I love the Irv's sauce and the speedy way each order is delivered. Thank you to the good people in the kitchen for giving us the bathroom code with a smile we appreciate what you do and we will always make it part of our Santa Monica Blvd. experience. Makes it mark on Hollywood and in this case West Hollywood history with celebrities such at the Rock, and Drew Barrymore frequenting this spot no matter what the location.

Shakes were so delicious and the staff was really nice and knowledgeable - Jasmine especially! The burgers have always been super good quality here too.

Just For You, minus the beef patty, 3 fried eggs, Irv's sauce, pickles, grilled and raw onions, bacon and lettuce.

Love the quality at Irv's, it's consistent through and through. Stopped by here on my lunch break and had to double back the next day. My server Serena was extremely patient as I figured out what would cure my craving with tons of questions. She was extremely helpful and full of recommendations, I'm sad they've discontinued the turkey burger but I still found a way to get my protein fix. I ordered a Just For You, which essentially is a build your own burger that starts with a patty cheese and their Irv's sauce, I did that minus the beef patty, 3 fried eggs, Irv's sauce, pickles, grilled and raw onions, bacon and lettuce. The next day I put my own twist on their Nina Western Burger, with subbing for beyond meat, adding bacon, BBQ sauce, Onion Rings, pickles, Lettuce and an egg. It's a lot I know but it got the job done! 10/10 experience. Will be back for muoreee! LOVE!

Tried Irv's Burgers thanks to Peacock promoting their TV show Poker Face, 2nd season! The promotion giveaway included a burger and a side of lies (fries). The burger included pickles, lettuce and tomatoes. It was a solid burger! Reminded me of a classic American burger. But the fries, I could have done without. They were cold, a bit soggy, and probably frozen previously. Super nice staff. Indoor seating with bathroom available.

One of the best burger places in LA. Historic and reborn again! Great burger the classic and the double. Super delish! Hot dogs, burgers, pastrami, chili fries! All great and freshly produced to order! Better than in & out or shake shack! Highly recommend! Jake the owner and his management team are great! Smash burger away!

10/10. Everything was phenomenal. The shake was a little thick, the fries were crispy, and the burger was so good!

Normal burgers. Usually it's ok, but sometimes they overcook the food to the point of burning. Also, soda is never carbonated enough.

The owner and host were genuinely kind, patient, and super helpful. They walked us through the menu, shared the story behind the restaurant, and pointed out new and interesting items. The food: amazing. We ordered the cheeseburger, the wild burger, and truffle fries. The cheeseburger and fries were absolute hits. My friend got the wild burger and he really liked it. Wasn't my favorite, but that's purely on me; I'm just not into sweetness on burgers. Totally a personal taste thing, not a knock on the quality. Overall, top stars and an easy recommendation. We'll definitely be back, and I'll work my way through the entire menu.

The owners are super nice and welcoming, which always leaves a good impression. On my second visit (just a regular day), the experience was a little different. The staff didn't seem very attentive to me or my guest. Nothing rude.. just not very engaged. That said, the restaurant does some really cool things. One feature I liked a lot was the spin board that displays your name when your order is ready.. small touch, but creative and fun. Because of the quality of the food and the overall vibe, I'm leaving four stars instead of something lower. The service didn't quite take it over the top, but there also wasn't anything bad enough to knock it down further. With more consistent attentiveness from staff, this spot could easily be a standout.

I've been a frequent flyer of Boo's (since I'm over in Ktown) and also quite a few orders over the years from South Philly Experience and twice from Matu (but that's a major treat and honestly way overpriced). All of these have their own great bits about them and I love all these spots. This isn't going to be a "who's better than who" since each is different in their own right and hits the spot different ways. I got the sweet pepper steak on seeded roll with of course, Cooper's! Then I got a classic Italian hoagie (with Cooper's) loaded up double meat/cheese. Biiiiig bonus using Boar's Head meats too, top shelf stuff. The fact that they're using Cooper's is a major plus and can get a seeded roll is such a nice touch. I do love a classic Amoroso, but seeded with the cheesesteak and Cooper's gives Matu a run for its money (and saves my wallet). Of course the meat quality is very different due to Matu using Wagyu but let's be real, that's really what you're paying for there. It's a nice treat but not an every other day get your money's worth. I feel I've found my favourite cheesesteak now though! The roll is super fluffy and crunchy where it needs to be. That thing was swaddled like a cared for newborn when it arrived and still hot from Melrose. Absolute 9/10 for me. The Italian was properly loaded and as I sit here enjoying it, a nice zingy break between cheesesteak bites as I split them half and half for lunch. For speed I love some Boo's, for the grill char taste I love some South Philly Experience but overall for my favourite spot now, it's Philly's Best off Melrose. Matu again is a great quality cut treat but the wait, the cost and the amount you get is not really worth it. Will absolutely be ordering from this place again in the future!!

The buns were quite small and a bit smooshed, but they were soft. It came with some fry sauce and pickles as well, overall a good burger. The fries had a good amount of toppings (cheese onions, fry sauce) and were nice and crispy. Kinda wish the onions were slightly more grilled for some extra flavor! The Big Mac stays the same. I went to LA to taste, apparently, the best burger in LA at For the Win. I paid $25 for two smash burgers and had high expectations. They did not take very long to get prepared and brought to our table. These are very good size sandwiches, you can easily eat it as two meals. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and helped us make our decision on what to order. It is a very bright place. Has odd artwork, not really a style or anything. A picture of a cow, a watercolor landscape. A fish chart. Something else that I forget.... Just odd, does not really work together, but oh well. Maybe these are from employees or were donated or something. But on to the sandwiches.... They were really good. I think I liked the Ceaser better than the chicken parm and Bolognese sandwich.
