    Nutty Salad - $15
    Brent L.

Don't let the name fool you. This is NOT your father's bar and grill! The place is dark, but not too dark. It's a very cozy place with red vinyl booths. The staff are outstanding. Very knowledgeable about the menu, and very friendly. The food is creative and quite tasty. We shared the Portobello mushroom fries - they were perfectly cooked and JUICY! I suggest not using the mustard sauce on them. It overwhelms the natural seasoning. We also shared the Nutty Salad - do yourself a favor and go with the recommended apple walnut dressing that was made specifically for this salad. You can't go wrong! They have a handful of beers on tap and a full bar. Check this place out if you are in the area.

Food was so tasty, we were very full. The service was good. Interior is bar like, good amount of space. We had Chicken and Shrimp Gumbo and it was excellent. Not too spicy. We had Goat Cheese Croquettes. They were amazing! Super filling for an appetizer really, really enjoyed. We also had the Crispy Chicken Sandwich. The potato wedges were crispy and the sandwich was very stacked. We really enjoyed this restaurant.

Another great option in the area!! Mix of locals and visitors. Old style pub with bar tables and lower tables near the back. There is outdoor seating. Has nice vibes and good music playing. We had a ham and cheese sandwich with a very yummy bun, chicken sandwich had great flavors, salad with avocado and garlic vinaigrette topped with steak that was nicely seasoned, and fish tacos with flakey fish and slaw. We had an order of homemade salsa and tortillas- those were a nice treat and great texture. Service was fine. It was busy but they managed and we felt like the food came out in a timely fashion. All of it was very affordable for four meals and where can you get $3 PBR on tap! Recommended!

So salty it hurt going down. I told the waitress it was salty and her reaction was "yes" .

We sat at the bar - good tip if it is packed since the bar is first come first served! The bartender was very friendly and the food came out quickly. The perch sandwich was very tasty and the animal crackers were a fun treat! Extensive drink menu too. We recommend it!

This is a place for casual gatherings, couples, and families. The food is well prepared and delicious. Service is quick but there are no reservations taken so you may have a long wait for a table during busy meal times. We loved our meals! A fun surprise at the end was the waitress bringing to each of us a small cup of animal crackers as an after dinner treat.

Previously we had great experiences here so I'm disappointed in our last visit. It was a very odd experience and it totally changed our opinion of Phil's. A group of friends, twelve of us in total, had spent the day together in Saugatuck. We had planned to eat at Phil's, and we finished our shopping and ended up in front of Phil's about 20 minutes before they opened. So we waited in front of the restaurant, just talking and waiting for them to open. At 4:00 pm the hostess opened the door, and our group was the first to enter the restaurant. The hostess met us and asked me how many were in our group, and I said, "Twelve, but we are happy to split up at separate tables, how ever it works for you." The hostess immediately said, "Oh, I can't possibly seat a group that large." I stated again that we are happy to split up, we didn't need to sit at one big table. The restaurant had just opened, every table and booth was empty, and we were the only customers inside the restaurant. The hostess told us we would have to go back outside and wait as there was not room for us to wait inside. I pointed to several four tops and asked if we could sit at those tables but she insisted that we go back outside and wait. We started to head back outside but had to wait because a large group, larger than our group of twelve, was walking in the door. The hostess greeted them in a very friendly manner and tables were being pushed together so they could all sit together. The hostess told us that their large group was being seated immediately because they were expecting them. We knew that Phil's didn't accept reservations or call ahead seating in the past, so we asked if they had started accepting reservations. She said, "Oh, they didn't have a reservation, but they "prearranged" for their large group. In hindsight, we should have just left but we were looking forward to dining at Phil's so we waited outside until the hostess said we could be seated. The food was good as always but the service wasn't the same as usual. The episode with the hostess was very strange. Probably won't be returning anytime soon.

Indoor dining in a mostly empty restaurant (outside was a little livelier, but we had reasons to seat out party inside). First order or drinks went well, it took a really long time to place a food order (thankful for the appetizer we put in!). After that, it was practically like the servers didn't exist any longer. When the food arrived, SOME of us were asked if we wanted refills, but not all? Some people got water refills but not all? Very strange. Meals were a mixed bag, with some additions or subtractions missed, many things not at a temp that inspired confidence in their freshness, and soggy center to pizzas. We didn't ask for alterations for most errors because things already took so long so we just tucked into the eats. We did, however, ask for the add-ons that were NOT present to be removed from the final bill (them being present suggests an actual error in preparation/service, not the order being taken....) Even with a great location/view, The Butler will go under with this type of dining experience. Ultimate bottom line: Like other reviews, consistency in all phases of this business needs work.

Pumpernickels is a vibe and a great place to sit a spell in the summer here in Saugatuck, but when it comes to the food, while it matches the vibe and is presented beautifully, tastes very average and is not value oriented aka on the spendy side. We came in as a party of 6 around 2pm and quickly got a table outside. Our server was sweet and kind, and quick to take our orders, but once that happened we really didn't see her all that much, which was frustrating. On top of that, the main dish on the menu that brought us here (goat cheese dip) was sold out after lunch, which was a major disappointment. We ordered the fried green tomatoes, deviled eggs, chicken sandwich (grilled), rueben, green bean salad, and a kids mac n cheese and chicken tenders. The best bites were the eggs and the green bean salad, but the portion on the salad was so petite that it was barely a meal for the person who ordered it. The chicken was dry and the sandwich incredibly generic. The reuben didn't have enough of the house corned beef and was also dry. Now I could be wrong here, but the fried green tomatoes seemed like a frozen product. with a uniform breading and cook, but the chicken fingers definitely were and the mac n cheese was quite literally Kraft. I'm going to hope that this is a hot dinner or brunch spot, because what we had was pretty disappointing. I was torn between here and the spot around the corner that featured a lot of local ingredients in a more casual setting, but chose this because it seemed to be more culinarily focused, and I was let down.
