Really disappointing experience. Clearbrook has always felt reliable, but this visit made it obvious something has changed in the kitchen. The $40 lobster pasta with shrimp was a small serving with three shrimp and no noticeable lobster at all. At that price, that is unacceptable. The whitefish was replaced with trout, came without the expected mashed potatoes, and was served with roasted potatoes instead. It was bland and overcooked. My cedar plank salmon also was not served on the plank as it usually is, but simply plated on a dish, which took away from what has normally been a signature presentation. We also requested the main dining room in our reservation and were told it wasn't possible. Apparently the chef is gone, and unfortunately it shows. This was not the Clearbrook experience we have come to expect. I hope they get things back to the quality, consistency, and care they used to have. read more

I've gone to this place for many years. The salad that you get with a main course is amazing. The service is great. The food is as inconsistent as anywhere I've ever been and I've been to a lot of restaurants all over the country. Last night for instance mid July 2026 we wanted a nice ambience so we sat outside it's gorgeous overlooking the golf course. I ordered the pork porterhouse from a local farm and I got a raw piece of meat. We all know not to eat raw pork and I brought it to the manager inside the restaurant and he had a very cavalier attitude and said there's not been a problem with trichinosis in the last 15 years. I told him he's full of BS and he really didn't care he said we'll bring you something else and I made a decision right there to never go back interestingly enough on the way out there is an older gentleman that was just as mad because he was served the same thing and it was raw. This is by far my favorite place to dine in Southwest Michigan. Between sitting by the beach at the summer or walking along the lakeshore, Clearbrook is the best place to end a day with amazing food and friendly faces. We ventured here on a Saturday night and the patio was bustling and vibrant. The staff took great care of us, and they ensured we were happy and well fed by the end of our stay. I started with a cosmopolitan, and they brought us their amazing bread. Every entree comes with a salad as well. I ordered the Steak Diane, which had an incredible mushroom sauce and sides. This place is truly impressive. Outstanding service, amazing atmosphere, excellent food. Reminds me of a Wisconsin supper club. My first visit here, along with several friends. We all agreed that this is our new favorite place to meet for a special dinner. The view is beautiful. We were seated at a large table that overlooked the golf course, and the fall leaves were in full color. We ordered three different starters to pass around. The house salad and bread were both wonderful. We all ordered different meals so we all sampled everything. We all agreed the whitefish was the best. The grilled salmon was very good but we all agreed the poached salmon lacked flavor, also the rice that came with it was bland.The mashed potatoes were delicious and perfectly seasoned. Recently tried this place out for girls night because a friend recommended it! I honestly have eaten in Saugatuck so many times and had no idea this place existed and I'm super happy to have experienced it. Because it's a golf club it's very nicely decorated and seemed very clean. We made a reservation and we were seated right after getting there. Our server grabbed water and drinks for us while we looked over our menus. On the menu, there seems to something for everyone on there which I love to see and mention in reviews. Lots of chicken and steak, pastas, salads, sandwiches, etc! Even some vegetarian items as well. I happened to see the special on a sign when we walked in that night and ordered Lobster Pasta with some red wine. After we ordered we were given complimentary bread which is always delicious especially with butter on hand. My friends seemed to like their drinks but they were strong ;) I really enjoyed my pasta and had to get some to go as the portion was quite large. Our dessert options were a creme brûlée and lava cake. My friend and I both ordered one of each and we enjoyed them but have to mention they were pretty small. Our server was kind and attentive and everyone else in the restaurant was the same way. I would probably come here again to try more of the seafood they have to offer. read more

I've only eaten at the grill room a few times and it was excellent, last night wasn't good at all. I ordered the grill house salad with 3oz tenderloin. The steak was excellent, the salad was iceberg lettuce doused in dressing, it was soggy. The waiter was an older man with white hair and he could barely hear to take my order. Family owned business looks nice kind of hidden and overlooks the golf course. I loved that the owners took the time to walk around and check in on each table which was nice. Service was extremely slow - we got there at 5:30 didn't get our meals till 7:40. The meal was okay but the ambiance definitely makes up for it. The Grill Room was fantastic! We had a reservation for our wedding anniversary and sat outside on the patio. It was a really hot day, but the patio was shaded and cool. The wait staff was phenomenal. We had a very experienced lady named Julie and she was so helpful, thorough and nice! She helped me decide on a wine that I would like and I got a sample. The salad was yummy and the garlic crusted bread was amazing! There was other flavors in the basket, but I wanted more of the garlic one. That's the best one by far! I had dinner at the Clearbrook Golf Club after a small socially distanced wedding ceremony overlooking the beach in South Haven this past summer. The outdoor patio was quiet and secluded with a view of the course. Our server was very on top of everything even with our group of 10 and we only had one beer order that went missing. The menu is pretty varied with something for most palates. We started with spring rolls, duck confit flatbread, chicken liver pate, smoked salmon cakes, and a big house salad. Everything was great but I particularly loved the pate and the salad, which came with your own personal serving of cheese (feta or bleu cheese) which I really appreciated. Everything was fresh and the proper temperature. For my entree, I ordered the salmon, which was perfectly cooked and seasoned well. I was really happy with the fish as I've had some overcooked golf course salmon before. Not the case here. The drink selections are pretty extensive and they can make most standby drinks. My husband and I went to Clearbrook on a date night. We hadn't been in 23 years since my grandparents took us the night we got engaged. Previous to that night I would go often through the years with them. We went last night purely for nostalgia and I am so glad we did because it was absolutely delicious and service was above and beyond; Helena was an amazing server. My husband said he can't remember the last time we had such wonderful service. I started with a Grey Goose Martini and my husband had a Test Pilot. We each loved our drinks. As an appetizer we got the Tuscan Spring Rolls. The combination of the meat, cheese and asparagus with the sweet dipping sauce was very interesting and tasty. My husband had the Cedar Plank Whitefish and I had the Canadian Walleye. We live in Atlanta so we both decided to go for fish that we can't get at home. Both were prepared perfect and we would both have them again. All entrees come with their salad served family style and fresh baked bread. We got enough salad for us to both have two servings and the bread has salt in the crust which brought out such a wonderful flavor. We ended the meal with Butterscotch Bread Pudding. Oh my, it was decadent and the perfect ending to a wonderful meal out. We made reservations which I highly recommend because they were packed. The menu has a wide range of entrees and sandwiches. I was illegally denied service at this restaurant. I have a service dog but the manager said they only allow "dogs that help people get around, like a blind guide dog." When my parents and I pointed out that there are multiple types of service dogs, he said "well whatever, we don't follow federal law, we follow state law." Guess what buddy, you broke both laws (MI LAW: https://www.michigan.gov/mdcr/divisions/ada-compliance/service-animals). We tried to show him on our phones that Michigan law, like federal law, says he must allow all types of service dogs, not just ones he personally deems worthy, but he refused to look, and said we had to leave. So we did, as it was clear that he wasn't going to budge. That's a civil rights violation, sir. read more

Overall a solid experience. I got the Trotter Sirloin but with Rice rather than the whipped potatoes. I asked for Medium Rare and the steak came in more on the medium side. Still, the steak was flavorful and had an excellent sear. Side vegetables were nicely done, often times the vegetables restaurants add are more Oil with a sprinkle of vegetables. These had a nice balance and tasted fresh. My wife got the grilled Salmon which also had a real nice flavor and the herbed butter gave it a nice richness. The food at Clearbrook has been disappointing. We just do not order the fish or steaks anymore. So much so that we now would order the hamburger. The price went up $10 to now $25, and you see where you have to get bread and a salad with the order. Who wants bread with a hamburger? I think no one. Also the salad is not a usual side to a hamburger either. This is not a customer friendly option at all. I have been a customer and fan of the grill for at least 10 years. However, I was very dissatisfied with my latest dining experience . My meal was awful. My steak was not hot, it was tough , and tasteless . My mash potatoes were not creamy or buttery. They were hard and also tasteless . My friend had the planked white fish. It tasted like it was blended and then plated to look like a fish filet. I commented to the server that I was disappointed with my meal. The dining room was noisy and very difficult to have a conversation . The price of our Two dinners was nearly $100.00 with only one cocktail . Unfortunately , they have lost a patron. We have had several wonderful dinners at the Grill Room at Clearbrook Country Club. On our most recent visit, we arrived a little earlier than our reservation time so we grabbed drinks at the bar. The bartender was personable and knowledgeable. After a short wait, we were seated and had top notch service. We honestly can't complain about anything. We dined there Father's Day weekend, July 22, and July 25. We ate outdoors twice and inside once. Both experiences were very positive but we did enjoy the outdoor dining since the gardens next to us were beautiful. We look forward to coming here every time we are in town visiting. Edited to add: we always enjoy the complimentary salad and bread. Members of our party have ordered and enjoyed the Greek flatbread, grilled North Atlantic salmon, cedar plank whitefish, bouillabaisse, and cioppino. All of our orders have been excellent. read more

We enjoyed the Reuben Flatbread - pastrami, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, 100 Island broiled on ciabatta bread. Delightful, and unique! We also enjoyed the Dry Rub BBQ Pound of Back Ribs (triple braised, dry rub-roasted, BBQ Sauce fired, with potato fries, and Cajun Remoulade. Once again, delicious. For desert we had the house made Chocolate Cake, with chocolate gnash topping. Delicious. Friendly service, nice atmosphere, and reasonable prices. The entire experience was just mediocre. I asked to be seated outside, and was told it was booked. Yet during my dining, it never filled up. We had Calamari as an appetizer which was meh. The dipping sauce was the best part. I ordered Steak Diane and was disappointed. The steak was overcooked, as were the soggy vegetables. My companion order the Bouillabaisse which he enjoyed. Service between courses, seemed to be lengthy, which had the waitress telling us "we were in the loop". On a positive note, the atmosphere is pleasant, and the waitress was nice. Had dinner on a recent Saturday night after someone recommended it. Good, solid food. The salad was delicious, like a fancy version of Olive Garden. I had the walleye because it's a house special. It was lightly breaded & cooked perfectly. But it was huge. It could easily be half the size. The red skinned mashies were yummy. My husband had the filet. He ordered medium rare & it came out medium well. But the server took it back and they order another on the fly which came out perfect. The Parmesan potatoes were great and thanks to the new steak we got another order! The server took 25% off the steak for the delay which we appreciated. Definitely would come back. read more

This is one of our favorite places to dine here in the Saugatuck/Douglas area...quaint, excellent service, great drinks and food, and great precautions taken for Covid. GREAT TAKEOUT MENU currently, due to the pandemic: We had the ribs dinner last night...big fresh salad, house fries and delicious ribs. All well packaged separately in foil containers, so it us easy to heat in the oven if needed. It was a big serving of food and was too delicious to stop eating! Awesome! This place takes reservations which is wonderful. So plan ahead. We were there tonight for 6 pm reservations. Not busy. Which was wonderful! I think the reservations are planned for that. It doesn't overwhelm the staff. You can eat indoors or outdoors, making that decision when making the reservations I had the herb poached salmon, yummy, & my husband had the Wahu (?). The Grill Room is a charming old school room with optional outdoor dining and a extensive wine list. I've dined here many times in the past and it's been a minute since my last visit. Unfortunately We were disappointed. Our server admitted to being distracted by "a VIP table" so we waited for drinks, had to hear about specials from the adjoining table and were served cold food, even waiting for the bill to be picked up as a final insult. The GR has the potential to be a really nice dining location but service can be hit or miss. This particular evening was clearly a miss. Value versus cost fell short. read more

It spent waaay too long in the freezer or Siberia and had absolutely no flaky texture. Literally squared off like broken drywall edge. It was warm and the potatoes were cool. She didn't make me aware of this until next morning as she didn't want me to be upset as it was her birthday. In the big picture that was wise. But lesson learned. I have worked in the service industry as a front line employee and a Senior Manager handling many situations over the years to ensure happy customers. I am very disappointed with the lack of response from the owner. This to me speaks volume. Dear Mr. Jeltema, My name is ***** and I wanted to share with you our first experience at your restaurant. A local resident and Realtor we know highly recommended "The Grill Room" as a good place to take my husband out for his birthday. We made a 3 hour drive to celebrate his special day. I made a reservation to dine outdoors and noted in our reservation that we have a certified service animal that would be accompanying us. As my husband and I entered the restaurant to check-in for our reservation, we were accosted by a very rude hostess who loudly yelled at us in front of guests she was escorting to their table. "What is THAT?" pointing down at our small (8 lb.) service dog (trained, certified, fully ADA compliant) in a discreet carrier that was totally unobtrusive. I continued walking in disbelief that someone would speak to a guest in such an unprofessional and demeaning tone. The hostess again yells out the same question. My husband who was behind me responded to her question, "that is our certified service animal". In her condescending tone, she responded, "PETS aren't allowed." My husband politely responded to the hostess that we have a SERVICE ANIMAL as noted in our reservation and we have an ADA card we can show as proof. Again, in her demeaning tone, she says "Yes, I want to see the card, Go take it to the manager at the host desk." I couldn't believe a seasoned employee in the service industry would speak to someone as she did to us in front of other guests. As we approached the host desk, I asked the man standing behind it if he was the Manager, but I couldn't quite understand his response as I was still very upset. I shared with him that we have a reservation and that a very rude woman told me to come and speak with the manager and show proof of our ADA Service Animal card. At this point, the rude hostess came up and stood right next to him. They were remarkably ignorant of the law, and she was quite insulting. As they fumbled through what appeared to be a policy manual, his response to us was that he knows that a "seeing eye dog with a vest" is allowed but nothing else. He also told us that "emotional support animals" were not allowed. We reminded him that the animal is a service dog, not an ESA. We had to explain to them the applicable provisions of the ADA and were finally seated. Once at our table, our waiter, Steve, was attentive, professional, and pleasant. The food was excellent. Steve and another staff member who we believe is named Maddy turned around our initial bad experience with the hosts. It is clear that your management/host staff needs training on the requirements of the ADA so that other guests will not be subjected to the terrible treatment we experienced. read more

Beautiful setting for a supper club on a golf course in Saugatuck, Michigan. Hostess was very helpful with our reservations for our family of twelve. Food was delicious, service excellent, our waitress even took time out of her busy service to take our group outside to a lovely setting for our family picture.
