    Grilled salmon

This place is truly impressive. Outstanding service, amazing atmosphere, excellent food. Reminds me of a Wisconsin supper club. My first visit here, along with several friends. We all agreed that this is our new favorite place to meet for a special dinner. The view is beautiful. We were seated at a large table that overlooked the golf course, and the fall leaves were in full color. We ordered three different starters to pass around. The house salad and bread were both wonderful. We all ordered different meals so we all sampled everything. We all agreed the whitefish was the best. The grilled salmon was very good but we all agreed the poached salmon lacked flavor, also the rice that came with it was bland. The mashed potatoes were delicious and perfectly seasoned. Lobster pasta was excellent. Cheesecake was so delicious. It was thick, rich, and creamy. The outstanding service really made this experience special.

Recently tried this place out for girls night because a friend recommended it! I honestly have eaten in Saugatuck so many times and had no idea this place existed and I'm super happy to have experienced it. Because it's a golf club it's very nicely decorated and seemed very clean. We made a reservation and we were seated right after getting there. Our server grabbed water and drinks for us while we looked over our menus. On the menu, there seems to something for everyone on there which I love to see and mention in reviews. Lots of chicken and steak, pastas, salads, sandwiches, etc! Even some vegetarian items as well. I happened to see the special on a sign when we walked in that night and ordered Lobster Pasta with some red wine. After we ordered we were given complimentary bread which is always delicious especially with butter on hand. My friends seemed to like their drinks but they were strong ;) I really enjoyed my pasta and had to get some to go as the portion was quite large. Our dessert options were a creme brûlée and lava cake. My friend and I both ordered one of each and we enjoyed them but have to mention they were pretty small. Our server was kind and attentive and everyone else in the restaurant was the same way. I would probably come here again to try more of the seafood they have to offer.

Family owned business looks nice kind of hidden and overlooks the golf course. I loved that the owners took the time to walk around and check in on each table which was nice. Service was extremely slow - we got there at 5:30 didn't get our meals till 7:40. The meal was okay but the ambiance definitely makes up for it. They do have gluten free options which is always a plus for me. The ribs was definitely the star of the show.

My husband and I went to Clearbrook on a date night. We hadn't been in 23 years since my grandparents took us the night we got engaged. Previous to that night I would go often through the years with them. We went last night purely for nostalgia and I am so glad we did because it was absolutely delicious and service was above and beyond; Helena was an amazing server. My husband said he can't remember the last time we had such wonderful service. I started with a Grey Goose Martini and my husband had a Test Pilot. We each loved our drinks. As an appetizer we got the Tuscan Spring Rolls. The combination of the meat, cheese and asparagus with the sweet dipping sauce was very interesting and tasty. My husband had the Cedar Plank Whitefish and I had the Canadian Walleye. We live in Atlanta so we both decided to go for fish that we can't get at home. Both were prepared perfect and we would both have them again. All entrees come with their salad served family style and fresh baked bread. We got enough salad for us to both have two servings and the bread has salt in the crust which brought out such a wonderful flavor. We ended the meal with Butterscotch Bread Pudding. Oh my, it was decadent and the perfect ending to a wonderful meal out. We made reservations which I highly recommend because they were packed. The menu has a wide range of entrees and sandwiches. I'm looking forward to going back for a more casual meal. Also, the prices were very reasonable!

All reservations were booked out for weeks when we had checked, but we showed up at opening and it sort of worked out. Let me explain.. A lot of other families had the same idea. Show up early, get in, get the kids fed early. It made for a line to check in at the host stand that looked concerning but it wasn't a crazy wait, ultimately. About 30 minutes. We still got what we wanted, a nice seat overlooking the water. One thing I'll say in that regard was there was a HUGE upfront rush, but then around 6:30 or so, the place had emptied out quite a bit. Might be useful knowledge if trying to time an entry here. ANYWAYS. The food. Phenomenal. So good. I stuck with standard fried chicken (ie not Nashville, not spicy) and it was amazing. Salty, well brined, flavorful. It even held up amazingly well cold out of the fridge the next day. Some of the best fried chicken I've had in years. The fries were insanely good as well. The greens (one of the side choices) were not my thing as they didn't have a lot of flavor. The only miss of the evening. My oldest enjoyed her burger, and my youngest thought the chicken was too spicy (read: peppery) but they've been uber picky lately so take that with a grain of salt (or pepper). Had a lovely cocktail here as well, called the Sunday Christian: Gin, Cocchi Americano, Bianco Vermouth, and orange bitters. I'm realizing I have failed you all but forgetting to mention the most glorious, buttery, flaky biscuit that comes with the fried chicken meal. It was a star of the show, and the only reason I'm just now mentioning it is that I ate it so quickly it disappeared into my memories. Wonderful place, and I'm sure we will go back next time in Saugatuck.

Don't fret, they have umbrellas on every outdoor table in case you're worried about being exposed to too much elements! Our waitress came over quickly and took our drink orders. I had the strawberry summer spritz which was a little more tart than I expected but it was a good summer cocktail. My husband had some sort of pear smash which he said tasted like pears and was good. I had the new item on their menu which was the lobster and shrimp roll and instead of the chips, I ordered some truffle fries ($3) with my meal. My husband had the chicken sandwich and subbed the chips with fries ($2). Outside of all the extra charges, I think this place was pretty great. Our food were both excellent and our drinks were tasty. We ordered another round after. I am just having a hard time understanding why the fries carried an extra charge. I get the truffle fries being extra but regular fries substitution seemed a bit much but okay. This is our second time being here. I was obviously not phased regarding the extra charges from a few years back but I honestly cannot remember if this was the case or not. Anyway, great food, good drinks, and a waterfront scene. You cannot beat that!

Pumpernickels is a vibe and a great place to sit a spell in the summer here in Saugatuck, but when it comes to the food, while it matches the vibe and is presented beautifully, tastes very average and is not value oriented aka on the spendy side. We came in as a party of 6 around 2pm and quickly got a table outside. Our server was sweet and kind, and quick to take our orders, but once that happened we really didn't see her all that much, which was frustrating. On top of that, the main dish on the menu that brought us here (goat cheese dip) was sold out after lunch, which was a major disappointment. We ordered the fried green tomatoes, deviled eggs, chicken sandwich (grilled), rueben, green bean salad, and a kids mac n cheese and chicken tenders. The best bites were the eggs and the green bean salad, but the portion on the salad was so petite that it was barely a meal for the person who ordered it. The chicken was dry and the sandwich incredibly generic. The reuben didn't have enough of the house corned beef and was also dry. Now I could be wrong here, but the fried green tomatoes seemed like a frozen product. with a uniform breading and cook, but the chicken fingers definitely were and the mac n cheese was quite literally Kraft. I'm going to hope that this is a hot dinner or brunch spot, because what we had was pretty disappointing. I was torn between here and the spot around the corner that featured a lot of local ingredients in a more casual setting, but chose this because it seemed to be more culinarily focused, and I was let down.

We got the crab and lobster dip plus the duck liver mousse for appetizers. Both were bland and the flavor non-comprehensive. The dip had little flavor and the texture was weird and chewy, did not taste like the crab and lobster was cooked that day (from experience). The duck liver mousse was decent, but fell flat on a full flavor alone, it was kindly complemented with the pickled cucumber and carrots but overall it wasnt the most impressive. We had the lake trout and the hanger steak. The lake trout was gamey, oddly flavorless but also had a strong musky flavor, severely under seasoned during cooking. The spinach and embellishments saved the dish from being totally inedible. Presentation was sad and sloppy. The steak with tallow fries was a joke. The meat was chewy/tough, the sauce tasted like nothing, and the fries tasted like they came straight out of the freezer section of Walmart (freezer taste included). Wedges or fingerlings would have been a far better pairing in our opinion. Both of our plates were left barely half finished and it turned into a date of being food critics lol. A positive was they did make a decent old fashioned (was more of a double), and their French 75 was fabulous. Overall, it was a joke. We love interesting new places with unique menu options. We chose this place for that reason. Unfortunately we felt it was a case of "quantity over quality". These dishes had so much potential, but it was by far our worst food experience of our trip.
