Had a really enjoyable time last night for dinner. A band played, the place was hopping, and Will, our server was zipping around, tending to his customers with quickness and a joyful spirit. You can tell this is a favorite spot for locals, listening to the cheers for the local music duo while enjoying the ambience and good food. There were three dinner specials: Ribs, Filet, and Halibut ~ our party enjoyed all three. I had the Halibut along with fries and homemade coleslaw, that was really creamy & delicious. I have a service dog . The manager of the What-Not-Inn restaurant prohibited me to from giving my dog water in a bowl that I brought with me . I realize according to the ADA rules for service animals the restaurants are not required to serve water to dogs however many restaurants do provide water as a kind gesture. This manager was very inflexible . She made us feel very uncomfortable. I would not recommend this establishment for anyone with a service dog. read more

This is one of my go-to restaurants for breakfast when we stay in the Saugatuck area. They have Bloody Mary and mimosa specials on the weekends, I always get both because Morgan, the bartender, makes an amazing spicy bloody! My partner and I both got the What-Not scramble (a special) which was one of the best meals we've had in a while, we both could not stop talking about that plate. The building has an old school charm that makes you feel like things haven't changed since they opened, and the owner Jan will welcome you with open arms. I've been eating here pretty much my whole life and when I was little it was my favorite restaurant to go with my grandparents for a Burger Basket special and an RC Cola! Nothing has changed and it's like walking back into my childhood and the burgers are just as good as I remember them and they have a good selection of toppings. My dad had the club sandwich, my husband had the bacon cheeseburger, my son The What Notter ( which is topped with American cheese and ham), my mom ordered a custom burger with pepper jack cheese and green olives and finally, I went with the Olive Burger (cheddar cheese and green olive Mayo)! All sandwiches come with chips but, you can upgrade to fries or sweet potato fries. We had the Chocolate Lava Cake for dessert and it didn't disappoint. Went to meet friends over coffee and pastries. We came all the way from Oregon and had researched before leaving so we were super excited to find this place. We got the cinnamon honey latte, a raspberry scone, a cinnamon roll and a lemon lavender donut. The latte was gross. It should have been made with real cinnamon, not some artificial syrup. My wife thought it was ok. I liked the scone, which was filled with berries. My wife took one bite of the other two pastries and threw them out. I could not have had a better first time visit to a new restaurant I wanted to try. I was told by a good friend that if I wanted a good fish dinner after Captain Lou's was closed that I needed to go here. Lucky me showed up for lunch on a Friday where the nicest waitress told me about a 7.95 Friday fish basket. I was surprised by how quickly I was served one of the best fish dinners I have had in awhile. It was so good and so much for 7.95. Make sure you ask for the hot sauce they make and sell. For many many years I've driven by the What-Not-Inn heading to Saugatuck and often wondered about the place. We stopped here a few weeks ago and I knew the moment I walked in I was going to like the place. Sunday evenings they have live music with Dean Allrick playing piano from the great American song book. We had such a good time sipping a cold margarita, eating delicious Cherry Walnut salad, and humming along with Dean. The menu has a great variety of food, which I'm anxious to try their burgers when we stop back in again on a Sunday evening to hear Dean. Super nice waitstaff. Her husband was dripped on from ceiling the entire time it rained while we were there, and multiple dishes came out incorrect. My mother also asked to speak to manager and was essentially called a liar because the ticket time (we waited for roughly 20 mins to get even drink order in.....that no one got refills) we had literally had a teen send a text as we walked in from the car, so had a time stamp proof! We were recently at this restaurant. They are open until 9 but the day we were there they were closing at 4 due to staff shortage. The food was ok. The issue was the owner/manager. She was sitting at the end of the bar and telling the staff how to do their job in front of customers. She was not polite about it either. You should never be correcting staff in front of customers. You are embarrassing the staff, perhaps why they are short staffed. Be professional and talk to your staff behind a closed door, not from a bar stool. read more

While staying a few miles away, someone told me that this place had really good salads and damn good martinis. Decided that was enough for me to give it a try, so off we went on a Sunday evening to give it a try. They seemed to be really busy for a Sunday evening, but then I saw a live band set up in the middle of the dining room and figured that was why. They had specials written on the dry erase board close to the entrance, and we both went with the 12oz Sirloin with 2 sides for $12. The place was busy and our server seemed to be slightly overworked, but she did a good job of keeping our drinks filled and running our food out as soon as it was ready.
