This was a major misfire on many levels. Here we go: 1: Wine. The wine is terrible, especially the Shiraz which is that awful gas-station wine with the peace symbol on it. The Cabernet was a smidge better but still basically undrinkable. There are many better (even cheaper) wines out there. So BLEH on the wine. Arrive already drunk, if you must. 2: Service. The staff was poorly trained and confused. Some of them were very thuggy and one of them reminded me of Pvt. Pyle from "Full Metal Jacket." Some were friendly. None of them seemed to know what the procedure was for anything. 3: The food. Holy crap. How hard is it to make a burger? My barbecue burger was a sick, sweet, gloppy mess. My wife had some abortion with squishy mushrooms squitching out the sides. The meat tasted cheap. The fries were passable. 4: Atmosphere. It's like they designed the place so they could simply hose it out at the end of the day. Hard surfaces everywhere so the sound was harsh and intimidating. The lights were hella-bright and made me think of a welcome-station at the state border. It's like eating in a giant restroom. Hard wire chairs that seemed to say, "Please get the hell out." We did. Parking was okay but like just about every business in Austin, parking is an afterthought. At least it isn't Kirby Lane. _ read more

This place is great for a burger, beer, and letting the kids burn off some energy. I had the 78704 it was delicious. My husband had the Violet crown it was a bit dry but tasty. We tried the Mexican vanilla cookie dough milk shake. Yum!!! There's a large fenced in playground. It's not for little little kids probably three plus (the sign says 5+). Our two year old had trouble on the steep bridge. But she still had a lot of fun. read more

I always think it's going to be better than it turns out. The menu is impressive, with lots of delicious sounding options. Here's my beef - the bun (see what I did there?) is terrible. It's a dinner roll, or at least has the flavor and texture of one. Actually, it's exactly like the rolls the cafeteria in my high school served. So maybe it's just my own psychological issue? Whatever. It just ruins it all for me. I always take one bite, then remember why I don't like Phil's. Onion rings aren't bad, though. Saving grace is Amy's Ice Cream in the same building. Mexican vanilla with Kit Kat always kills the sad. Playground, but really only suitable for 5 and up, mostly due to the kamikaze behavior of the kids flying from the top of the plastic fort. read more

Amazing! The sweet potato fries are incredible. I got the Allendale burger and I can't even describe how good it was. The bun is incredible. Also they have an Amy's ice cream attached which YES and they also do happy hour from 3-7 during the week which I love. Good prices too. read more

The burgers and fries at this place are GREAT! The play area for kids is a very welcome addition. I'm giving 2 stars because this place is the home to the most aggressive pack of pigeons in Austin. They will literally take food right out of a kid's hands on the back patio. There seems to be no attempt from management to mitigate the problem. There's a pathetic looking plastic owl that is tipped over and completely ignored by the pack of winged rats. Hang some water bags or put something a little more threatening out there. Act like you care. Great sandwiches though. *UPDATE* I heard from the manager and it seems like they DO care and are trying a few things. My kids love it here, so I'll be back on a regular basis, and will update this review (and rating) if I see an improvement in the bird situation. read more

The food at Phil's was okay, it is a burger joint so menu is limited to burgers and chicken sandwiches and such. They have some interesting specialty burgers. The burger I had was not bad, I have had better but also had worse. The interior dining area was so loud and noisy that you couldn't hold a conversation with someone at your table and flies were everywhere. There is a decent playground outside the restaurant that is great for kids 3-6. read more

Pretty decent burgers; not a whole lot of meat(like a better P.Terrys sans fast food). They can be heavy handed with condiments*mustard* so I ask for them on the side. Sweet kolache buns; the 78704 is my favorite. There are definitely better burgers in Austin, but this place is usually pretty chill, so it's great if you wanna eat and relax. I'm giving this place 4 stars cos it's a great place for an impromptu gathering of many folks with kids. We had a relatively unplanned bday party here. Just showed up with balloons and opened up a tab to get food and drinks for the guests as they pleases. We had ordered bday cake from Amy's next door. Both Amy's and Phil's staff were extremely helpful with cups, spoons and even. Borrowed knife to cut the cake. The adults had fun as did the kids at the playscape. We would totally recommend this for low key birthdays. Everyone's happy with fast food, beer and icecream in one spot! read more

I just want to say I'm not a fan of hamburgers but I liked their 78704 Burger with sweet potatoes fries(hot and crispy)! I'm guessing their burgers are not cheap but I'm not sure because my friend picked up the tab (Thanks, John!) I really enjoyed the bun and I'm glad they were not shy with the avocados. Both John and I also added some Tabasco sauce to it and it only made it better. It was a very eccentric decor but it's Austin so that shouldn't surprise anyone. The play ground for the kids was fun with all it's different colors too. So this is a place I would love to go back to when I get a chance. The only thing I didn't like about the joint was the amount of flies flying, but I know it's inevitable to have a few but seriously, it was crazy many! read more

Went there for lunch with some friends from work. I had the Brentwood, which is basically a bacon cheeseburger on sourdough buns. The lettuce is pretty huge, but fresh. The burger is juicy. But the best part is the bacon. IT. IS. EPIC. The thing is so thick, it's almost like eating a thin pork chop. Think Chilli's big mouth burger bacon, but thicker. That easily catapulted the burger from good to awesome. I also had the sweet potato fries, which are pretty good but nothing to call mom about. All in all, decent place to go for lunch. read more

I was in the mood for a good burger for lunch. Phil's seemed worth a shot. Sadly, the burger was a big let down. Low quality, near flavorless meat over-cooked to the consistency of shoe leather. On the positive side, if you're a parent with little ones, this is a good place to bring them. The little tykes were having a blast on the playground. Great burgers for a great price! Easily one of my top burger places to go to. I usually order the 78704. The meat is cooked just right, toppings are fresh, and the bread is the best part!
