I got to Half Moon Bay on Sunday with my runaway niece and her boyfriend in tow only to get a flat tire to add to the drama. Could hardly sleep worrying about how awful the rental car companies are when it comes to such things, but after looking on Yelp I decided to try Phil's. Just stopped by here to see if they could put on (1) lug nut. One of mine had fallen out somewhere so I was a little uneasy with 1 missing lug. I got a spare from a buddy, went down to Phil's in the morning and asked if they would slap this lug on real quick. Without hesitation they put it on for me real quick. I thank you for this guys. I have been here before for some other type of maintenance a couple years ago and they gave me a reasonable quote for the work done and performed it in the time they quoted. Auto shops are hard to gauge but my experience here thus far has been good. There was a local guy that slapped on my lug and while he was on that wheel he went over the other 5 lugs on that wheel while he was at it so I appreciate supporting locals especially when they take the extra 3 seconds to check the rest of the lugs. read more

Phil's to the rescue. Again. I had a flat in my drive way last night and by 4pm today I had two new rear tires. I called at 10am and was told they had to order the tires but they would be delivered to their shop around 4pm. I drove over there at 4pm and by 5:15 I was on the road again. I asked for reasonable rates and the price they made me was way below what I expected to pay. Next will be the front tires but that's not an emergency yet. I definitely will have Phil's do the work on the front tires too. Auto repair shops can be a very scary place for a woman alone but these guys took all the scariness out of it and made me feel like a very special person. read more

They say everybody should have a good doctor, lawyer and mechanic. Well, I've got my mechanic! These people are pros, and have been for years. I used to bring my beat up old Nissan here all the time. I once had to bring it in three times over a two-week period. The total charge for all three repairs was less than $100. That's honesty! I just now picked up my Toyota and I'm thrilled. I thought the car might be a goner but now it's running like a top. They even found an oil leak that others told me didn't exist. Fast, Friendly and Fair! read more

I went to Phil's to get a tire patched because I had heard good things from my neighbors. Plus I wanted to support a local business. Boy was I let down. They patched my tire just fine, but Jim put the hard sell on me to buy 4 new tires for $550. First they said my front tires were "shot", which was not true (still had 4/32" left). Then when I asked why I couldn't just change the front two tires, they made up a total BS story about what happens if I mixed and matched different manufacturer tires between the front and back. I called the dealer and another tire shop and got a completely different story. So much for supporting local business. Shame on you for trying to rip off your local customers. read more

Saw this place on yelp and was right around the corner from my job so I decided to Come in here during my lunch to get a nail out of my tire and to patch it up they told it would be a couple hours, came back at 4:15 and my car was still outside with the flat. Never did they call me to tell me it was going to take longer very bad customer service !! read more

I went in to have what I thought would be 4 tires replaced, upon inspection, I discovered that I only actually needed 2 tires and a front end alignment. They could have made more $$ from my visit, but because of personal character & integrity, they gave me what I needed, not what I thought I needed. Over the past 20 years, I've tried every auto repair shop on the Coastside, and Phil's is the most reliable and honest place of them all. They have good prices on tires, and they perform careful, thorough service on my 9-year-old VW. When I had a coolant leak recently, they fixed it, but a few days later it developed another related leak. I took it back, and they fixed it without charge. They also offer a free tire rotation every 5,000 miles on tires you buy from them. Highly recommended. read more

I had a frightening blowout on the freeway quite a distance from HMB, stressfully made my way home on my little tiny spare at 10 p.m., and this morning asked my husband to call Phil's about replacing the tire. I have four brand new Goodyear Eagle GT tires from Phil's less than 24 hours after my blowout! Jason, Jim, everyone there is always kind and helpful. The tires were ordered from their San Jose warehouse in the morning and were installed on my car in a very timely fashion. Great service and prices! I needed new tires so Jason gave me a quote for three different brands and prices to choose from which was very nice. When my suv was there for the tires as soon as they looked they saw it needed new brakes/pads/rotors. I was contacted immediately and given a quote. Safety was their main concern and because the brakes were unsafe I was told that they could have it all done by the end of the day. I highly recommend Phil's! I get my oil changed here on a regular basis. The fixed my flat tire a few weeks ago and did a really good job with not much wait time.

The last time we brought our car in we were pleasantly surprised by the wonderful guys at Phil's. They charged us nothing to repair a flat and check a sensor on our car. They said they were taking care of the bill because they put a whole new set of tires on our other car, and they had recently changed two tires on the car we had them checking (the flat was not in either of the new tires we got from them). I was in Half Moon Bay for 3 days, visiting, in an RV. I came up on my spare tire; the "good" tire had a leak and needed to be fixed before going home. I took the tire in on Monday afternoon. Most places who do tires, can fix a tire ON THE SPOT in 10 minutes. They made a big fuss because it's a larger RV tire but took it anyway...but it couldn't be done until the next day, he said. I told him I suspected the extension (which screws onto the main valve so you can reach for putting air in it at the gas stations). They would call me, they said. By 2PM the next day no call. I called them. They told me they filled it the previous night and it doesn't hold air, it was empty in the morning. WOW - what a newsflash, I ALREADY knew it had a leak. But they told me again it should go into Redwood City to a larger repair place, they really aren't "equipped" to do it. He said they had no way to put it in a tank to see air leaks. I have seen small shops run by wonderful hard working mechanics simply spray water on the tire and watch for bubbling...it's not rocket science. Still he'd work on it he said - whatever that meant - and I should come pick it up at 4. Interesting - when I got there, it turns out he LEAVES at 4. Convenient, eh? The tire was sitting there untouched. The manager looked at it and had no idea what the status was or why it wasn't fixed. He said they'd do it the next morning - the morning I was supposed to leave. We saw that there was a nail head in the tread...I thought "that's one LONG nail to go all the way into the tire." He said he would take care of it. I took the tire with me instead and simply headed down to the corner Union Station. GREAT station, GREAT owner. "SURE we can fix that." I brought the tire. It took them TEN minutes. Like I mentioned, they used a spray bottle. The pulled out the nail, and as I suspected, it was NOT the source of the leak. They sprayed the extension on the valve...as I suspected, that was the leak. They filled the tire, tightend the extension, used the spray bottle on the rest of the tire and found no more leaks. Yup, - TEN MINUTES. Not TWO DAYS to do NOTHING. Perhaps the first fellow didn't care because I seem to only be passing through? Was he lazy? He didn't care? Is he incompetent? Whatever the reason, he didn't know that I was actually here finding a place to live and I WILL be living here - and I know not to use his "services," and I know to recommend to locals NOT to take their cars there....something you cannot afford in a place as small as Half Moon Bay. Phil's Tire and Auto Care needs a wake up call - hopefully this review is it. read more

Phil's not only took care of the blow out but the price of the tire was $40 less than what they are in Sacramento . My car drove better before Phil's did an alignment and put on new tires. When I returned they adjusted and then blamed a small issue- Dude! front end inspection is the first part of an alignment. You don't do the alignment if anything is wrong. When the problem was reconciled, it still pulled right and no one seems to be test driving completed work. They give it back to the customer and see if you will notice. When it went back again they blamed something else and said it needed a front end specialist. So why did it drive right before Phil's? Hmmmm. When checked further all 4 tires had different tire pressure. The attention to detail is poor. This was my last trip to Phil's read more
