I hate to write this review because I've been a loyal Philz customer for years, but my son and I had a really bad experience this morning. If you don't want to wait an extra 30 minutes and get snapped at multiple times by staff, go somewhere else for coffee. I placed a mobile order (nothing big, one coffee & two cookies) for 7:30. It was confirmed. At 7:30 they were slammed - clearly understaffed and way behind. Tons of stressed out people waiting. My young kid was with me and I had to run to take him to school. After 10 minutes, I asked about the status. The person grabbing food was very rude, insisted we had no order (even I showed him on my phone), and then tossed cookies at us. The person making coffee was also very sharp. She asked if we could wait, I said no we had to leave, and she said instead of refunding the order, her coworker would make ours next. We waited another 5 minutes, her coworker didn't make the coffee, and then she said snappily, "So you can wait? If you want a refund, you can just leave." We left without coffee, 15 minutes after our scheduled time, and rushed to school. I have no idea if they actually put through the refund. A ton of unnecessary stress to start the day. Two stars instead of one because management clearly put them in a tough position. But there's no need for the attitude. And management should know they're losing loyal business. read more

My review was removed and I noticed other negative reviews were removed as well which is suspicious. But the service from the female at the front counter was horrible. Had the attitude of an entitled 13 year old. And instead of deleting reviews they should fire that girl or at least move her to the back. If you don't like customer service don't have a job that is customer facing. Asked for a recommendation and she scoffed and rolled her eyes saying "I don't know what you like". read more

Philz coffee does not ever disappoint!!! I've been to multiple different locations and the employees are always so nice and friendly. I was helped so fast and the drinks came out promptly. I usually get the mint mojo to and that's exactly what I got this time around too. It's so unique and refreshing but also gives you the pick me up you need and want from coffee. It makes me sad to feel motivated to write this. I have been a big fan of Philz for a long time. Sadly, I will never go back. This location went through a big change and not for the better. When I walk in the energy is so low and passive aggressive that it is palpable. The service is lethargic. It looks like people hate working here which makes the patrons feel dismissed. It used to be the direct opposite. I used to drive a very long way in order to get to this location. I don't think it is only at this location that the energy and the service standards are incredibly low. I travel from LA to SD and it seems to be a consistent problem through the entire chain. I don't know if the company was sold or management turned over or anything else, but I can tell you that everything is now much worse than it was before. The drink was fabulous but the service was very poor, they were so busy that they didn't push down on the top of the lid and as a result I took one step and it spilled all over me. They weren't paying attention clearly because I had a dog and a baby in a stroller so my hands were full... the least they could've done is to make sure to secure it. they remade the drink which of course but my bra got stained and now I have to buy a new one and they didn't really acknowledge their mistake they kind of just rushed and made me a new one and didn't really give me the feeling that I was cared for. Rushing over customer service never bodes well with me. I'm curious the manager for last Sunday of Labor Day weekend-what do you think??? read more

I've been to this location twice - I like to order the Aromatic Arabic with a scoop of cocoa dissolved in the cup, since my friend who is a Philz barista at another location recommended it. Her store calls it a Häagen-Dazs drink since it tastes like melted chocolate ice cream. Anyways, I think they heard me wrong and they gave me a Mocha Tesora as the base, but it was still very good and smooth coffee! They have lots of seating and chargers here so I was so happy to plug in my computer charger since my computer was dying in the last hour of my final exam that I took here They also have very clean bathrooms available to customers. My second visit I realized they also had free water cups and dog treats, so my friend and I hydrated our dogs after a walk. There was also a good amount of tables outside to sit at with the dogs, so it's a very dog friendly location with a park right around the corner. Parking is hectic though, but you may be lucky to find free parking around where the park is instead of the metered parking i front of and behind Philz. read more

Finally got a Philz Coffee closer to the house than the HB location. Love coming to the soft opening when all the workers are all caffeinated and ready to help! I would've been the first in line but I was taking some pictures so second person it was. This location is on Park and Second across from Saint & Second. Free parking can be had in the residential down Park. I did notice a small (6 cars?) lot directly behind but it was full and it was tiny. There is a Merchant's Bank lot but that apparently cost money. As for the coffee, their Medium blend or house coffee is the Tesora. Personally, I find it very light but has all the characters of a great cup of joe. They make a mocha Tesora for an iced version. So for a darker blend, I chose Julie's Ultimate. It has just enough mmmph for the fuller tasting body. Interior wise, it's not big but nicely decorated. Has art deco feel and glass surrounds. Service here is Terrific and the pastries are just buttery enough that your mouth will thank you. Welcome to the hood. read more

I loved Philz Coffee since my NorCal days, as I mentioned in my other reviews of Philz locations. I was so happy to hear that one would be opening in Long Beach, since it would be close to my home and work! After having lunch on a Thursday afternoon, my coworker and I made our way to Philz. What I appreciated about this Philz was how clean it was and the theme was really colourful and welcoming. We waited in line behind one other person, and there were three baristas. We waited several minutes before the barista started moving the line forward. Yes, the place was near full, but it looked like there were only 3 orders to be fulfilled before we saw the baristas. Checkout was thankfully fast and the wait was not bad. Drink was good, so that is a plus for an almost annoying wait. While reading through the other reviews, it sounds like the wait is a real issue. I have been here once, but the wait would not stop me from coming back. I had not experienced this type at wait from other Philz (e.g., DTLA, SF, Huntington Beach). read more

He got the Tantalizing Turkish and I got the Philharmonic. Both with mint and hints of cardamom. His was "Philz Way," and mine was with cream and slightly less sweetened sugar and they were perfect! It always takes a couple sips for me to get used to the mint, but it really is quite refreshing after I get used to it. Coffees themselves were great, but what I really appreciated is the great service. We wanted to grab a bag of the Philharmonic to go, and they didn't have any out, so in the midst of the morning hustle, they stopped to pack us a fresh bag. They could have easily said, "Sorry we're out!" and tended to the line behind us, so we appreciate that they stopped to get us what we wanted. read more

i had the worst customer service experience at Philz Coffee !! i got there yesterday at around 1:48 pm, there was 2 parties ahead of me. The Lady who ordered ahead of the people in front of me, as she was leaving spilled both of her beverages on the street. I felt so bad and allowed her to go ahead of me to let them so that they would remake her beverages. The couple was taking a while & didn't evn have proper face masks on. Finally the lady was able to let them know what happened to her drinks and they said they would replace them! After, as I was about to place my order the guy (CONNOR) tells me they are closed (at exactly 2PM) & I am no longer able to place my order. That was so rude, as I waited in line for a while & allowed for the lady to be able to get her drinks. This was so rude!! I came a long way & was trying to be a sweet and allow the lady to get her beverages replaced. I asked to get a company card so that I could call and they took over 5 minutes to give that to me, way longer than making 1 small oatmeal cookie coffee black. Philz has best coffee hands down. I got the small iced mint mojito (I also like the iced mocha) and it was $4.60. The serve is always great at Philz and the people working here are so friendly and kind. I accidentally forgot to ask for light ice when I ordered but the guy who took my order was able to walk over and tell the barista which I really appreciated. Now onto the drink itself, it was perfectly smooth and had a really great balance of flavors. It's not too strong but has a subtle sweetness and the mint makes it very refreshing. This Philz is the best I've been to, with welcoming staff, quick service and a clean, inviting atmosphere. I frequent this business often and the employees never fail to answer questions and provide recommendations whenever prompted. I especially enjoy the commitment to customer engagement in the form of "question of the day" whiteboards and fun interactive tip jars. Those small details add a lot to the environment. My one note is that the large table in the front of the store has been closed off for some time, causing some crowding. It would be a relief to many guests to see that area open again soon, I'm sure! The coffee has always tasted smooth and to the intended level of sweetness, and the pastries are put out at an impressively quick pace for a restaurant that undoubtedly must be overrun with mobile orders. I can't believe most of the coffee shops are closed by 6:30 pm on a Tuesday evening. I passed by so many coffee shops down 4th street and they were ALL closed. Fortunately, this place was open and completely satisfied my hankering for an iced coffee. It was perfect! I wish they had a better pastry selection but hey I got what I needed. I understand we were driving around 6:30pm for coffee but the Library coffee shop on Broadway and Portfolio were both closed. Then I went into Vons and even the Starbucks inside was closed. I felt like I was in an episode of Curb your Enthusiasm. I am just wondering how do coffee shops stay open if they are closed half the day and only sell bagels and coffee?! I remember hanging out at coffee shops in my college years, Jolting myself with coffee and cramming for an exam. I guess no one does that in Long Beach anymore. I'm a regular here. We love to come with the dog, sit outside at a table, people watch and relax. The patrons are nice and the staff is wonderful. You're welcome to come as you are as well, whoever that may be. Good vibes. My go to drink is the Philtered Soul. It's smooth creamy, sweet and relaxing. Once you have it, most coffee's you drink will make you home sick for Philz. Philz and another coffee joint in Florida are the best coffee I've ever had... I can drink either of the two and not think about the other. It's just that good. Mint Mojito would be my back up order. I believe they use Tesora beans for that which we like to keep in the house when we can't make it in. The drink Honey haze is also the philtered soul but with oat milk and honey. I'm a repeat customer at many Philz locations. This Philz has always had consistently great service. There's always at least a couple curbside pickup parking spots available and a larger lot adjacent, so it is very accessible. It was my first time coming to Philz, the girl on the register could tell I was confused. She didn't help me with how to order, but she was friendly and patient. The wait time for my coffee was quick, maybe within 2 minutes with a steady flow of foot traffic. As I got up to retrieve my coffee, the barista already had an annoyed look. She threw the lid to me and it /slid/ on the counter. Look, I work in a coffee shop too. I understand the annoyed face. What I don't understand is tossing something with enough force for it to slide and not be apologetic for it. There is nice seating both inside and outside, it's not too loud, I'd say average coffee shop vibes.
