Which was perfect because I was getting a coffee for my aunt who is the grandmother of a four year-old and a one year-old!! She definitely needed an iced mocha to help her out and give her the extra push through the afternoon of watching/raising her own grandchildren!! As I ordered from the barista, I wanted to initially get the tiramisu latte, but I was worried it was going to be too sweet for my aunt. Since there's so many different combos of drinks and coffee roast at Phill's that you can make up your own drink within their guidelines, I didn't know I could order a simple iced mocha! Lol. Philz is always a treat, but I love this location in particular! It's not too busy when we go and the outdoor seating is perfect on a nice day. Drinks are usually pretty good, but I think the highlight of this location, like many others are mentioning, are the people who work here! We came by over the weekend, saw that they were featuring a new blueberry coffee for the summer and had to come try it. Before I ordered, I asked the barista what she thought of it and I appreciated her honest opinion. I ordered it anyways, but she said she would make something else if I ended up not liking it. I'm not one to try new items, but she made me feel at ease about trying something new. Spoiler alert: I wasn't a big fan, but typically people offer that and don't actually mean it. She meant it and even checked up on me a few times to see how I liked it. After giving it a chance, I shared my thoughts and she made me a Sweet Harmony (this was goooood). I used to be a barista and know it can be a bit cumbersome to remake a drink, but she was so attentive and kind about it! This is a serious health and legal issue that I feel compelled to share. I've always enjoyed Philz in the past, but I had a truly upsetting experience at this location that goes far beyond bad customer service. As a pregnant individual, I urgently needed to use the restroom and could not wait behind five customers. When I politely asked an employee, I was flat-out denied access unless I purchased something first. Despite explaining my circumstances, the denial remained firm -- the employee even added that the same policy applied to "homeless individuals." I was left feeling humiliated, distressed, and in real physical discomfort, all over a basic human need. Here's what makes this especially serious: under the California Restroom Access Act (AB 1632), food and beverage establishments are required to allow people with medical needs (including pregnancy-related conditions) to use restrooms when one is available. Refusing me access wasn't just inconsiderate -- it was out of compliance with California law. This law is not optional. Businesses that violate AB 1632 can face civil penalties of up to $100 per violation, and individuals denied access may file a complaint through their local health department or pursue a civil claim. The law exists specifically to prevent situations like this, where someone with a medical condition is put at risk or humiliated for something beyond their control. I understand businesses want to limit restroom use, but when state law and basic compassion say access must come first, refusing a pregnant person is unacceptable. This wasn't just poor customer service -- it was harmful and unlawful. I strongly urge Philz management to train staff on AB 1632 and ensure compliance moving forward. No customer -- pregnant or otherwise -- should have to cite the law in order to be treated with dignity. Until then, I'll be taking my business elsewhere and encouraging others with medical needs to be aware of their rights. read more

This Philz location is a consistent favorite. I've stopped in multiple times for a quick coffee, and the staff is always wonderful--friendly, fast, and helpful. I've been working my way through the menu and can honestly say I've loved every coffee I've tried, from the light roasts to the dark blends. The space itself is clean, spacious, and offers plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, making it a great spot to relax or work. It's pretty chill inside on this weekday late afternoon, but imagine this place is busy on weekday mornings during rush hour for folks trying to catch Caltrain and other folks who work in the area. I've been to many Philz Coffee locations and they all have a different vibe. This one has really tall ceilings, has a modern feel and great lighting. This review is based on my experience on September 28th, along with my two coworkers - Racism experience with another customer. We all went to Philz Coffee during our break, a place I had always associated with inclusivity and a strong anti-racism stance. Sadly, my recent experience left me feeling disappointed and disheartened. We all ordered and sat on the bench in front of the barista, while we wait for our drinks. As we were waiting for our drinks, we noticed this older woman who purposely dropped a large cup of ice on the floor and then she stepped on the pile of ice, trying to fall. My coworker called her out on that and made a comment saying that the woman purposely dropped the ice and is pretending to slip. None of the workers stepped in or seemed to acknowledge what my coworker said, when she was trying to stand up for the workers because of her behavior. The older woman was upset that my coworker called her out. She then walked away to a table, but kept staring at us. We then became her target. My coworker asked the woman why she kept staring at us. My coworker asked, "Why do you keep staring at us?!" The older woman then made a comment ending in, "Mexican ass." The older woman came back to the area where we were sitting, looked at us and stepped on the pile of ice again and said, "This is a message to you Mexicans. Like the ice, you Mexicans belong on the floor." Mind you, my coworker already called her out for being racist and even told the workers that the shop should not be serving anyone who is purposefully throwing ice on the floor and being racist, but nothing happened. Someone came over to clean up the ice, apologized and asked if we were ok. We later found out he was the manager, Nico. We got our drinks and my coworker noticed that the older woman was taking photos. My coworker asked her why she was taking photos, but the older woman mumbled something and we left the shop. After we left, we were so disappointed that nothing happened to the woman. We called the shop and asked to speak to the manager. The manager was speaking and told us that after we left, they spoke to the older woman, told us that she was not allowed in the shop anymore and they wrote an incident report. If the workers spoke to the older woman and wrote an incident report, what really happened? When we called, no questions were asked for our side of the story. He then offered our next drinks on the house. I understand that it was a lot to take in at the moment, but for a coffee shop that does not tolerate racism, we were just disappointed with the outcome and no immediate action was taken when we told the shop she was being racist. read more

Please save yourself a lot of time and frustration by ordering ahead on their app!!! Every time I've ordered in store it's been such a long wait, even when it looks empty. This is pretty consistent with every Philz location I've been to recently. That said, it's a great space with a few indoor and outdoor tables, drinks are good and customized to your preferences (sweetness and amount of cream), and staff are polite. Parking can be a bit difficult unless you snag one of the street spots (alternatively you risk CalTrain parking police), so I generally tag team with my husband and pick up while he parks illegally. This is the coffee shop to go to when you're waiting in line to get into Farmhouse Thai or Son and Garden next door. It seems pretty chill here and I think it would be a great hangout spot especially for students. I got an iced decaf coffee with light cream and sugar and though it was delicious. It was very creamy as usual and had a nice almost mocha flavor to it. My go-to drink is usually an iced mocha Tesora so I was surprised that this drink tasted somewhat similar and very tasty. I don't remember what the actual coffee bean they used was - the person at the counter explained that the decaf menu was slightly out of date so he told me the name of the blend.. which I didn't actually catch. Short Review: * Love the indoor seating with big open windows and natural light * Iced Coffee Rosé + Iced Mint Mojito are my go-to's for drinks, their burritos are very filling too! * Free wifi, one bathroom (clean), and easy parking (garage) Long Review: I'm a huge Philz fan - but specifically Menlo's Philz. Even on the busiest days there are seats available, the lighting is perfect no matter what time you go, and I can't get enough of their iced coffee rosé. The baristas know exactly what they're doing, and are very quick to make the drinks too. It helps if you order ahead (easier to customize drinks that way for me anyway), and I've never had an issue with any drink I've ordered so far. I also think their pastries + breakfast foods are pretty affordable for what you get. I'd say the same for the drinks; especially since they handcraft each individual's drinks. Since I tend to stop by in the mornings, I get the bacon burrito which is super filling. Together with the iced coffee, it's an amazing combo! As far as ambiance, it's always very clean and I come here for both leisure and business. Nice place I've visited occasionally; there are dog water dishes on the floor inside so I assumed it was dog-friendly. I've gone in before with my dog to join friends; sun shining in the windows during the early morning hours make it bright; service, hot chocolate and pastries are good. The last time I went there I noticed the "no dogs except service animals" on the door and didn't even go in. I wonder this about several places where customers have to order inside, but say they are "dog-friendly" because they allow dogs at outside tables. How are we supposed to patronize them if we can't order anything? After reading about stolen dogs who were tied up briefly outside a business, I'm reluctant to leave my dog alone, so I probably won't patronize Philz. read more
