I love Philz and I've been to a few locations. This one is located in Downtown Redwood City. I like the convenience of being able to order on the app ahead of time. I ordered the salted butterscotch ($6.80) and my friend got the mocha tesora ($6.80). My drink was good--a nice balance between salty and sweet. I learned from the last time I ordered this drink to get medium sugar instead of sweet sugar or it's way too sweet. The first time I ever ordered this drink, the barista topped it with salt. I could actually taste a little salt on top, which I liked. I've since ordered it many times, but I've never gotten the salt on top again. Still pretty tasty! read more

I don't like how their drinks are pre-set to be super sweet. And if you customize it differently, it doesn't taste good! I do like their cold drinks like the mint mojito and iced rose. We walked in to order our drink, and it took long to wait! There was only 1 person in front of us and no one ordered after us. We told the worker we were also picking up an order for my auntie "_" and she nodded and said okay! But we still had to ask her for that mobile order for my aunt and she said she didn't see it. Then said it just went through?! I don't understand how that could've happened. There were 3 workers and they were all just standing there. I haven't been to a Philz in a bit, so when we popped in here for some AC and a cold brew on a hot summer day, I was surprised by how the menu has expanded. Honey Haze (low sweet, medium creamy) is transcendent! I did a double take when I took my first sip -- it came with oat milk as a default but you could have fooled this dairy lover that it was cream. I wasn't sure if I'd like honey as a sweetener since I rarely sweeten my coffee at all, but the light honey added a layer of flavor without the cloying I anticipate with sweetened drinks. Rich, flavorful, smooth -- yes, this will be a new favorite. Weekday afternoon, the vibe here is calm and friendly, lots of varied seating, and nice breezy cool air to counterbalance the near inferno outside. The baristas are helpful and personable. A great place for a cup and some productivity. Plenty of snacks and great coffee, and the drinks come out quickly. Great customization on the bevs and all caffeine levels welcome. Everyone here is nice and I've never had a bad experience. It is a bit louder (for me) compared to other coffee shops I might frequent, but some noise cancelling headphones get me back to work just fine. There's some nice local art on the walls, and it changes often - most all is for sale if that's your thing. I have left my computer/etc out while using the restroom several times and I've never had anything messed with or taken. Some folks will watch your stuff, other times I've just gone and been fine ( YMMV and Obviously use your own judgment here). Whenever I'm in need of a space to work in downtown Redwood City, this Philz is always a good go-to. I'm not much of a coffee drinker but I can't get enough of their iced coffee rose, sweet and creamy. For $7 it's about average for a cup of coffee nowadays but I'll gladly get it every now n then. During the day, this area of downtown Redwood City isn't super busy, so finding parking is never hard, and this location has a decent enough amount of tables to work from inside and a couple outside. I love Philz. This was my first time at this location and was disappointed. My go-to is the iced mint mojito. I usually get the small or medium size but on this particular day, I wanted to get the large, b/c it had been one of those days. Hubby also got the same and we agreed it was not the best iced mint mojito we've had. and I had a LARGE of this sadness :( They also did not call out our names when it was ready which explains why it took so long to get our drink and barista was a bit rude when I asked if those were our drinks on the counter. I specifically said, "May I have a lid, please?" She gave me one but she put it lip side down on the counter in someone's old spilled coffee. *That *is *disgusting!* I asked for another lid. I love Philz Coffee. My family and I have been going to this location for years. However, on my last trip I noticed that something was off. First, the coffee took a really long time to make. There weren't many people in the store nor were there many orders ahead of me so I wasn't sure about the delay. Nevertheless our coffee took about 15-20 minutes. Second, this was the worst part. Our coffee tasted a little viscous. I didn't think too much of this until later that day after we had already gotten home. I had not finished my coffee and when I got home I decided to open the lid to take a look. What I saw was thick mucus that had risen to the top of my drink. I was so disgusted by this. I will never go back to this store again and I hope you guys don't either! I don't know how you mess with someone's food like this. It's probably because we didn't add a tip, for crying out loud, the coffee was already $6.50! Does this really warrant someone spitting in our coffee? You need to wait a while for your coffee as it is made to order, so I always place my order in advance in the app. They don't have a loyalty system, which would have been a good perk to loyal customers. I checked out Philz Redwood City because I wanted to get these sweat pants from Target that were only in stock at San Mateo. It's such a random reason to venture out of my usual spot at Sunnyvale, but it was a nice find :) Overall, this Philz location has modern vibes (spacious feel with tall ceilings, exposed HVAC, and trendy lamps) remixed with the more traditional coffee shop elements (wood and painted metal furniture, local artwork on display :) There are a few larger tables and a living-room-esque section with couches. I do love the socially distanced small individual tables (with plenty of outlets!!) It's always been my pet peeves when I'm being super productive at a coffee shop and then someone sits down next to me and talks very loudly. I know it's a cafe and not a library, but it's nice to have a bit of personal space :) Other notes: - Lighting is good. There are large windows, but since the store floorplan is rectangular and deep, the inside is mostly lit from lamps - The bathroom is alright. This is a decent Philz. Obviously, the staff, coffee, and food items are all excellent. This is pretty standard across all Philz locations. The reason why this Philz gets three stars is that there really isn't very good parking around here. Additionally, there is limited seating (whether indoors or outdoors). About a mile from home, Philz on Broadway downtown RWC, is not only convenient for me but a chance to switch up my usual coffee of choice. Philz has Light to Dark blends, Iced or Decaf. Teas and Hot Chocolate as well. Recommend the Iced Mint Mojito for warmer days and the ' Ether' for colder days which has notes of cinnamon, cherry and toffee.
