I went here on a friday morning and it was packed! The whittier plaza tends to be a bit busier since it is mixed in with alot of other shops and the gym. The line was pretty much out the door! Which you could say is a great thing. This location mainly serves pour overs with unique flavors. I liked the option to customize and make it your own. For a small coffee it was around $4-5 dollars which isnt bad at all! Seemed a bit understaffed so expect to wait awhile if you are coming on a weekend! read more

Immediately greeted with a warm smile and welcome by the cashier. She was super patient, especially having my curious toddler trying to grab the cash in the tipping jar. Appreciated her grace with me & my baby. The Mint Mojito is a staple I always get at any Philz and was solid & consistent with how Philz is known for making it. Love the cute wall murals as it gave off kid/family friendly vibes. Outside patio is a nice spacious area that looks pet-friendly. First time here, as I walked in, I was a little thrown off because the decor and arrangement of ordering and receiving your drink. Being that they built this building from top to bottom, and the presentation of outside of the building looked like when you walk in it would've had more creative intimate setting with dimmer lights. Kinda disappointed that the outside patio is probably a better setting to have your drinks. It seems like they just slapped some modern type, cartoon stuff on the wall and called it a day. It's going to be hard to find close parking so I would suggest parking in the bank area. The place has just opened so the wait was kind of expected(25 min), no drive thru. Upon ordering the cashier girl was trying to help me take my order. I'm new here, a simple question, " what drink has the strongest caffeine?" She didn't know. Basically our 2 min convo she doesn't know coffee, just told me what was popular SMH ( she was nice though) I got the ether & Jacob's wonder,2 mediums came out to $11 and some change(Sounds average). Didn't see not one food item on the menu but there is a little area with croissants etc. they sell merch supporting their company as well there. After 25 mins they called my name for the drinks. I posted a pic of how the drinks did not have a sticker with the name. LIKE WHO DOES THIS AAAAHHH I have 2 drinks, both iced, both look exactly the same, and not in a see thru cup. I have never been to a Philz coffee shop before, My sister it would be fast service, but when I walked in to meet her ; she was standing there and no one had acknowledged that she's was waiting and what I saw was the ladies just zooming back and forth in front of her to the point where my sister had to raise her voice to ask is some going to be able to help her. The young service associate said, "uh yes we'll be right with you" but you know how people say a nice statement it sounds like there's a bit of attitude behind it ... that was kind of the situation. I am assuming perhaps they have been having a pressured day but with four girls in one shift , I would assume the load should no bear that heavy. This occurred around 127-132pm. Honestly some reviews are harsh but this place is great! Huge parking space with lots of places like a busy gym as well but walking is good for you and not everyone will have front row parking. Came after a gym sesh and there was just 2 people in front of me. I didn't mind the wait because my coffee was a 10/10! I got the Oat milk Cookie Cold Brew and im in love! I also got the Turkey Sausage Sandwich and it was also a 10/10. So tasty and it was nice and hot. Ive never been to a Philz and the service here was great. The cashier was great and was so friendly and the baristas are working hard to complete drinks. Love that they told me to try my drink, thats something i've never experienced. The inside and outside seating was clean and welcoming. I would definitely enjoy sitting here with my coffee here one day. Will update again when I visit during a peak hour. So my husband has raved about Philz for years and I'm not an avid coffee drinker by any means so when he told me it was finally open I grudgingly decided to order something. Huge mistake! I'm now addicted lol. Since they've opened they've been super busy which means the wait is long but we order ahead on the app, like responsible humans. The taste of the coffee is sublime, my go to order is the Honey Haze but I'm very excited to expand my palette very soon with all their offerings. It's a bummer to see all the negative reviews for stupid reasons like long wait times, but to be honest this place is worth the wait. read more

Every time I come to this Philz I have a pleasant time. The coffee options are vast and the employees always make my drink right and still always have willingness to change it if need be. The feel of the coffee shop is quaint and comfortable. The music is not too loud and there's plenty of outdoor seating which I look forward to using as the weather cools down. I come to Philz some mornings to grab a coffee then walk the beautiful neighborhood and return to Philz for some ice water which the employees are ready to give me. I decided to stop by on opening week since I had been eagerly anticipating the opening for weeks now. I was not surprised to see a line out the door, but it moved along at a decent pace and everyone in line seemed happy just to be there. If you have been to a Philz, then you know that they specialize in pour over creations. This is not a traditional cafe which can throw you off if you're used to lattes and frappuccinos. I ordered the mint mojito and my wife ordered the hot gingersnap. Both were excellent and just like the other Philz locations. The staff were friendly despite some of them visibly perspiring due to the steady stream of customers. The space itself is inside a repurposed historic building, which gives the space plenty of warmth and originality. I also love that there is plenty of seating outside to enjoy the beautiful weather. Parking can be a challenge since there are other popular businesses at the Groves, including a gym and a grocery store. I suggest using their app to order ahead, at least during the next few weeks, because that will be faster than ordering in the store. read more

The coffee at Philz is absolutely delicious, but the long wait time really hurt the experience. We waited nearly 30 minutes for our drinks, which feels excessive, especially given the premium price. We ordered a New Manhattan, which was light and nutty, which was definitely a great choice. I also tried the crookie (cookie croissant), which was okay but not memorable. I'll return because I love the coffee, but I really hope they can speed up the service. I know they are ironing out the details as they just opened, so take the wait with a grain of salt. If they can cut down the wait time, it would make the experience so much better, and would probably bump them up to four stars. read more

Going to the Berkeley Philz for school made me fall in love with the chain. The vibe is definitely more SoCal, with limited seating and grab-and-go options. The taste is similar, and the drinks are specific to the brand, unlike Starbucks. I hope they're able to stick around! Idk what it is about the baristas here but they all seem to hate their jobs. They never say hello or greet you when walking in, they don't try to help you out if you're looking for your mobile pick up. I had about 5 employees just awkwardly staring at me walk in to look for my mobile pick up. Not one said a word. It seems like if you were to have to ask them a question, you'd be interrupting them standing around doing nothing. At least that's how it felt right now on this particular day. However I will say, since I've come here, the ambience is consistently bad energy and just seems like all the workers hate their lives or jobs. This location is new and the baristas and workers are very sweet. I feel like the community needs to give them more grace as they are located in a high traffic area. Very disappointed, this is a favorite of mine since I'm from the bay. But I ride a motorcycle and normally if I bring my own cup it's not an issue but today some how, to grind a bag, get a mint mojito in my own cup, and to split the order because I'm getting it for co workers who have never experienced Phillz. I tried their new caramel cardamon coffee. I taste spices. Not a drink that I would get again. 2nd time I got their light coffee. That one was good too. Stopped in yesterday just to check things out. I've not been to Philz before. The girl at the register was really helpful and explained the coffee menu...I ordered Ambrosia with medium sweetness/cream. She said the barista would let me taste it to make sure I like it prior to leaving. The barista did leave the lid off and suggested I taste the coffee to make sure it was to my liking. It was! This is the best coffee!! Very smooth, not too sweet - absolutely perfect. I was very impressed with the helpfulness of the staff and the quality of the product. It's small inside and it was raining so no patio seating, but that was fine with me...I didn't plan on staying...I will definitely will be back! read more

First time at this location - been to the Pasadena and Huntington Beach locations. This place is DIRTY and the BARISTA who helped me was LOUD and OBNOXIOUS. I ordered through the app - two drinks, which took 30 mins to prepare. When I got there at the time the app said my order would be ready, it wasn't. And when I asked the barista about my order (name placard said Gino), I was told to stand aside and wait and that they'd call my name. By the way, my app said Christian would be the one preparing my drink. I'm writing this because the obnoxious barista that was making my drink was either Gino or Christian. Either way, after waiting for more than 30 mins for 2 drinks, the loud, obnoxious barista calls out my name, but didn't have me try my drinks - lids on. Benefit of the doubt, he probably thought I was an Uber or DoorDash driver. Again this guy's poor customer service skills didn't even have him bother to ask me! What an ASSumption he made because the drinks were under-sweetened, something I would have pointed out if I was able to try it, just like Philz offers for their customers! Next time, ask! This review won't stop anyone from coming here because Philz product is good. I write this because I'm hoping the franchisee can address the poor reflection of what is otherwise a great product and company! Whittier Philz, you can do better! read more

The service was very good considering it was extremely busy however my go to drink is a decaf mocha and I have to say it was not better than Starbucks. I asked for both drinks to be extra hot and I was told they come out very hot and they were not. When you ask for extra hot at Starbucks, it's hot. The milk they use in a mocha is heavy cream, but the consistency was more like water and not as flavorful as Starbucks. I also got a hot chocolate and that was very good according to my wife. I also purchased a chocolate croissant, which was very good a little pricey at $4.50 but overall not bad but it may be a while before I go back. read more
