There's a reason for the great reviews at Phi 36.....the service and food are extraordinary! Hong, our host and server, greeted us on entering and immediately took our beverage orders. He was gracious, welcoming and attentive. There's an awesome personal vibe here, down to the wrapped chop sticks. The menu is a blend of Asian dishes, but specializes in Pho. I ordered the "Chicken Noodle Soup Pho" which is delicious, like a warm hug. The broth is light and flavorful, the chicken tender, the noodles, bean sprouts and cilantro so fresh. It was the best Pho I've had in Indiana. The large portion is enormous, I couldn't finish it! My husband had the Grilled Beef Banh Mi sandwich. If you've never had a Banh sandwich, you don't know what you're missing. The beef was tender, the bread toasty and so many great flavors. This locally operated cafe is cozy with ten small tables. They do a robust carry out and in house service. The place fills up at lunch time. There is plenty of parking in the strip mall lot. The single restroom is clean and tidy. I highly recommend! I can only speak for myself but I was a little disappointed with the size of the Banh mi I ordered for takeout. It came deconstructed for some reason and for $8 it seemed quite small. Been in here many, many times and have always left satisfied. The dining area is quaint and there are about 10 tables. It does get a little cold in the winter if people come and go a lot while you are there. The owners are super friendly and will quickly remember you if you become a regular. The service has always been good everytime we have been there. We almost always order the spring rolls with shrimp as an appetizer. It comes with peanut sauce which is one of the best we've ever had. I've had the pho before and it is amazing. I usually take about half of it home because it is a huge bowl. This time however, I went with the grilled beef bánh mi sandwich. Theirs is my favorite sandwich of all time. We also got the crab rangoon this time and it also did not disappoint. It, of course, comes with a (I think) sweet and sour sauce. I looked through all of the reviews I've ever left and this is going to be the first time I give a business below a 3. This was TOUGHHHH. This place has about 9 tables inside, pretty small. Totally fine! The problem was the service. I had to ask for my drink 4 times. Even had to ask after my friends got theirs. Then we finally get our food and finally got our drinks...we didn't have silverware. We politely ask for that and they say they will go get it ASAP. We were sitting for a good 5 minutes before they came back out to the front and realized that once again they forgot our silverware again. I'm totally understanding of small businesses and if waiters are busy, they are busy, no problem. but we would watch our server leave our table, go to the kitchen two steps away (to presumably get our drinks), come back out 5 minutes later, walk right by us and go help other tables. Forgetting once or twice is fine but 4 times is crazy. Food was alright, not bad, but nothing amazing. The two pluses? 1) the portions were huge! Definitely bang for your buck 2) An older lady came in and started working right as we were about to leave (I think she might have been the owner) and she runs a tight ship. I had the rare beef and fat brisket pho and it was . The brisket was the best. We both got the large and it was SO filling. For only $2 more than the small, it was worth it. I've been home sick today and ordered their rare beef pho and springs rolls and they definitely delivered! They packaged everything so nicely with separate packaging for toppings (jalapeños, bean sprouts, mint, sauces) and the broth was super flavorful. The beef cooked once put in the hot broth. This dish is not spicy but you can order it with extra spice if you wish. The plate included some very good white rice and vegetables as side items. There is full translation and explanations of each item on the menu and they've modified things to accommodate an American pallet. We got a large pho tai chin, large pho tai Nam, and a bun bo hue. The large is not very large. The pho broth is not good. The bun bo hue only comes with 3 slices of well done flank and 3 slices of cha. You are supposed to make bun bo hue with a thick round rice noodle but they just used pho noodle here. It is fine but not at all authentic. It was very busy when we went. Pho 36 is a decent restaurant for pho just outside of Indy, on the west side. The Pho broth was different, more on the lighter side, but still decent flavors. They did hook me up with hanh dam (pickled onions), which I like to add sriracha and a dash of hoisin. Pairs well with your meats. Egg rolls were good, but I wish it also came with lettuce leaves to make a wrap. And I normally don't get seafood pho, but I do for my kids. They said they loved it. I love eating at Pho 36. Most of the time I get it to go which is perfect every time. Today I decided to eat in and I got to visit with the owner. She is just so sweet! Broth was flavorful, and the amount of accoutrements for the soup was enough to make the bowl full. This is my go to meal and I could eat at least once a week. If you leave hungry then that's your own fault. The pho comes in a small and large size. Definitely get the large. It's worth it and some will have leftovers. read more

The reason why I gave this place a 3 star is because the grilled pork sandwich tasted very dry and was hard to chew. The daikons for some reason was soaked in a soy sauce color sauce, which I'm kind of confused about, and the bread does not taste fresh at all. The grilled pork with egg roll vermicelli had too much veggies in it; the noodles & meat ratio to lettuce, cucumber and bean spouts were too little.. the egg rolls didn't look fully cooked or fresh either. The grilled pork chop with rice tasted very strange... the pork chop didn't taste like pork; it had a strange texture that was very soft and rubbery taste. I loved this place! Our server was so kind and attentive. We started off with spring rolls and egg rolls. The spring roll sauce was awesome with the chopped peanut in it. I ordered a jasmine tea to drink which was nice and refreshing. If you're looking for a sweet tea then don't order it. It is a nice refreshing unsweetened tea. We then got our pho (quickly I might add, we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time) which I liked. I got a large beef pho with tripe and added meatballs to it. It was enough to have as my lunch and for dinner later that night. My fiancé got the small portion and I would go with the small if you're looking for something that's enough for one sitting. He got the been pho with brisket and said it was delicious. I've also added updated menu photos to my post because everything I found on Yelp was from over 3 years ago. I am a regular at Pho 36, I go at least every month. The food is freshly prepared and always great, but I did want to mention one area of improvement. During the cold winter months it is FREEZING inside the restaurant. I thought it would be a one time experience, but it has been cold repeatedly now. It's a smaller restaurant, so I wouldn't suggest sitting by the door and be prepared to wear your coat during your meal. A breath of fresh air among the chain-heavy strip malls in the area. Came here for lunch. We were immediately seated and taken care of by the very friendly host/cashier/waitress/all-around amazing woman. We ordered the vegetarian spring rolls, without tofu. It came with two rolls. They were very, very large. I was honestly almost full after eating one of them. I also ordered the large portion of the vegetarian pho (noodle soup). It came with a huge bowl of steamy, tasty broth, filled with tofu, broccoli, shaved carrots, onions, sprouts, and of course, noodles. It also came with basil, cilantro, jalepenos, and sprouts on the side. As a to-go treat, I also got the soursop bubble tea. A couple of things to note: - I got mine sweetened less than normal and it can out still very sweet. - it also came out with the ice blended, almost like a smoothie. - the soursop, although artificial tasting, was very tasty and I would order it again. Fruity and florally at the same time. I also tried the taro and it tasted straight up like soft serve ice cream. Lol. Would highly recommend this place. My husband has been looking for Vietnamese sandwiches and little did we know that Pho 36 is very close to Aldi where we usually buy our groceries. We tried them a few weeks ago and guess what, we came back last Saturday! That only means we really love the food! We love their Bahn Mi sandwiches and my favorite is their Pork Chop with egg. They have bobas too! A must-try is their Mango Boba. It is soooooo good. We usually go there as soon as they open and from both times that we went there, it wasn't that busy. The place is small with a few tables but very clean. Kim (owner) is very nice and personable and always finds time to talk to you and not just ask "how was the food?" etc. I would recommend this place not just for great Vietnamese food but also for the cleanliness and their customer service. Listen, I love pho lol so I was so happy to know that there's a Vietnamese restaurant near my house. They have a parking lot area but sometimes it can get filled up when it's busy like in the afternoons and evenings. When I went, it was mid day and I luckily found parking in front of the store. Everyone there was nice and it was a nice atmosphere as well. I could tell they had regular customers because of how they all comfortably chatted with each other and laughed. It was nice to see that and it shows what great customer service they have. Their pho was also tasty! I would recommend going here :) I also had delivery from here before and it's still tasty when you eat the pho at home!
