I went there for corned beef and cabbage on New Year's Day. I had corned beef and cabbage/sauerkraut/coleslaw/coconut cream pie/and red potatoes. The portions were large, the food was prepared properly. The roll I had was excellent also. Very large light and fluffy. Coconut cream pie was as good as any my mother ever made and she was a great cook. It was a little pricey. My bill with tip was about $32. the food was very bland not much taste on any but my husband ordered the Swiss steak and could not eat it because of the texture. So they swapped it out for fried chicken and it was very dry, he didn't eat that either. $60 for 2 people, we definitely could've had some big fat steaks from somewhere else, but we haven't been there in years so we figured we would try it out. Honestly wasn't worth the price I paid for lunch time! The menu had several main entree options, but it wasnt clear what the blue plate featured item was for Friday. [Sidenote: if you don't do the blue plate special everything is higher, a la carte]. My fried catfish did not have a crunchy batter on it, the fried skin actually was lacking. I got two sides, green beans and mash potatoes w/ gravy (which was cold). I tried to press through and it my lunch, since it was basically $16. Never had any lunch meal that high in Avon. Service of the attendants was the only plus. Also apologized for the high pricing of items on the menu. Parking is okay, it surrounds the building. Also lunch time, just like any other establishment had a "rush" crowd. I've ate here before for lunch but it's never been this high. Since my dad was visiting I knew he would like to go to MCL. We have been eating at these since the 70's. This one is newer and extremely nice inside. Its a cafeteria like in school but with a lot better food. They rotate the menu and if you like chicken livers like my dad this is probably one of the last places that has it on the menu periodically. The swiss steak is one of my favorite items. Luckily on Saturday they had it on the menu. They will also have a variety of side items. The rolls are all fresh as well and excellent. I didn't want any dessert but they had quite a few nice pie choices available. As you pick you items and pay you can go sit and enjoy the food. I will add MCL is one of the few places a very large group of people can go and eat easily. It is easy to pay the bills as each person can pay as you go through the cash register. There are plenty of tables and booths as well. The swiss steak was excellent great sauce. I really like good spinanch and this is one of the few places that makes it themselves. It is great if you like spinach. I also got some yams. I don't recall seeing these before but they looked good and tasted good too. We all got what we liked and had a great meal at MCL. But the warning is it can get costly as each item will have its own price so make sure you get what you can eat the portions are a decent size and they also offer a lunch time special with a sandwich, drink, and one side. read more

I'm just not a fan of the price. This was one of my dads go to for food. He is no longer with us. Me and mom seen this new MCL in Avon. So mom hadn't been to MCL in a long time. Our food was great. I have been sick for the last couple days but feeling better. I had a tickled in my throat that made me start coughing and coughing. I felt bad for they rest of the customers so I went to hide out in the bathroom till it was over. The lady working the floor (Asian lady) was very worried and asked my mom if I was okay. She checked on me a couple more times before we left. She was very nice and welcoming! The inside is very clean and warm feeling not just a open eating area. read more

I eat here with my aunt about once a month. She loves it there. I should go more often. All the people love her and know her by name. When she could drive she went I am sure daily. But it can be pretty pricey unless you do one of the daily specials. Adding other salads, soups, bread, desserts, and a drink really pads the bill. You can often find coupons in Reach and I try to keep those on me for a few dollars savings. I am going 4 stars because everyone who works here is great and my aunt loves it. Also at the Avon location, there is the nicest server in the dining room who has been there quite a long time. The Asian girl is a wonderful, friendly lady who welcomes and helps everyone. The menu has a wide variety of options if you are dining with a large group of people and the service always tends to be friendly. We came here for the all you can eat spaghetti on Friday night. My husband and I both opted to get the meat sauce (you can get just plain ol' marinara if that's your thing). The sauce was actually pretty flavorful, and it had a decent amount of meat. Was it the best spaghetti I've ever had in my life? No. Was it good? Yes. What really made this place stand out was our server. He was on it every time we needed another round of spaghetti, more drinks, or whatever our needs were at the time. If you occasionally frequent MCLs, you're probably familiar with the same worn down, old fashioned, outdated motif that most of the chain seems to have. This MCL is like Queen of all MCLs. Where the commoner MCLs have tan booths and tired carpets, and lots of secret rooms to hide the people with children, this MCL is sleek blues and grey, wide open and spacey, sophisticated and clean. Now I won't lie. I grew up in the south, and I love MCL style food. Give me a blue plate fried chicken special on a kids eat free night and I'm a very happy camper. My wife is a bit more discriminating, and is constantly bemoaning the absence of true healthy food alternatives to all of the down home style country dishes they offer. She swears this MCLs healthy food fares are superior to others, so if you're in her camp, maybe you could give it a shot. My stepdad, also not a fan of MCLs, insisted this one had a superior food quality. As someone who always enjoys MCL food, I can't speak to this difference. But I can speak to the far improved ambiance. If you've got kids and live in the Avon area, I would definitely make myself a regular here on the days kids eat free. I eat at the MCL in Avon at least 1-2 a month. Food is always fresh and hot. A little pricey for cafeteria food but portions are generous. Yes, the clientele is older but it's quiet and you never have a long wait in line. Staff friendly enough. I recommend for carry out. read more

My wife and I decided to try your restaurant out for the first time, since you guys had built one in Avon. I had fried chicken, mac & cheese, and corn on the cob, with a piece of coconut creme pie for dessert. My wife ordered the meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and green beans, with pumpkin pie. The food looked pretty good, even for $30 total. Unfortunately, it did not taste as good as it looked. I felt like I could have eaten better chicken at KFC. The pie was runny and disgusting. The fruit punch tasted like someone had dumped a bag of sugar in the glass. My wife's meatloaf was soggy. The mashed potatoes tasted like they were boxed. The rolls were horribly bland. On top of all this, it took 15 minutes for someone to come to the table and ask my wife if she wanted more to drink. Overall this is an extremely inferior version of Grey's Cafeteria in Mooresville, and I would have had a lot more to eat for my $30 there. Hubby & I went to MCL Avon, IN last week - our first visit. Each of us got a Beef Manhattan. The taste and portion size of meat & gravy were great. Got 3 star rating because our meal was tepid in temperature; not hot, not even warm. I only like hot cooked food. What made it worse was the temperature of the restaurant - cold - we kept our winter coats on - guess manager trying to save on heating costs. Because of the room & food temps, by the time we got halfway through our meal, the food was actually cold - yuk! - cold gravy! We haven't decided if we are going back. This well laid out restaurant is newer and has a large and airy dining room. It has a large selection of time-tested recipes for nearly any taste. The quality of the food is high, but the price can seem steep for such simple fare. The one issue with the cuisine was that the Swiss Steak seemed to have an surplus of breading and a lack of meat. Furthermore, the service left something to be desired, with the waitress never introducing herself and only asking us once if water refills were needed. No tip was left. This is a nice MCL. It is relatively new and hidden by the Walmart parking lot. Unlike most MCLs the water is not self-serve which is actually nicer. My 1st trip there the food was good and service was also good. The mgr asked how my lunch was which I found to be very professional. The Castleton MCL is still my favorite but this is a good location as well. read more
