Went here for lunch with a few colleagues and had a good meal. The restaurant was rather busy in the middle of the day, but that didn't stop the service from being very attentive and the food coming out quickly. The pho was pretty standard. Truth be told, I really can't tell the difference in taste from one pho place to the next, but regardless it hit the spot on a cold day. This review is a little overdue, but it's definitely well deserved. We went here last Saturday while visiting San Diego, it was a hole-in-the-wall place that we didn't know what to expect. We were greeted immediately upon entering, there were several older Asian guys eating alone in there- that's when you know the food is good. We were then given this menu that looks at least 10 years old- also another sign that a Asian restaurant is delicious. Been making the same exact food for years and still works! A large bowl of pho with everything in it was $13- you really can't beat the price. I have never been to a pho place where that they gave you THAT much meat before. They sure made it worth the price The flavor is absolutely fresh, light and delicious, like how pho is supposed to be. First, I get my bowl of pho and i find a bug in it. I tell the server and he is confused what to do. He brings me a new bowl but refused to give me a discount and was very rude about it. It should not be okay to have a bug in your food and not get some sort of customer service for it! read more

This place is definitely a fave of mine for Vietnamese food in the North County (dare I say it...maybe even in all of SD?). All of the food here is really delicious and I think it is even comparable to the places I've eaten in the Westminster/Garden Grove area. From the pho, vermicelli, to the fried egg and spring rolls, everything on the menu is outright delectable. An item also very comparable and my favorite on the menu is the Banh Xeo. I've tried this at other Vietnamese restaurants around SD but Pho 4 Queen has the trophy for this one. This Vietnamese crepe is just outright magnificent. It's a savory dish that contains pork, shrimp, and bean sprouts wrapped in a crispy batter that you additionally wrap in lettuce and dip into fish sauce. The entire ensemble of goodness is a divine experience that you must try for yourself (if you haven't already). Vietnamese food is up there as one of my favorite asian cuisine and this establishment lives up to all of my expectations. Pretty decent food here, great service and clean environment! Their egg rolls were crispy, flavorful and delicious with all the cucumbers, pickled veggies, mint leaves and lettuce they gave us, with a generous amount too! Many pho places are stingy with the veggies on the egg roll plate. It is not uncommon to have one lettuce leaf for two egg rolls... Not this place!! Instead of pho, I got their egg noodle soup with char siu and wonton. It's a good bowl with the flavorful clear broth, meaty wonton, tender char siu (pork slices) and chewy noodles. I also got to try their bun bo hue a little bit. The broth was good although not the best I've had in the North County area. Also they don't put pork's blood in it, which is something that I actually like... We also got their chicken wings. On the menu they didn't mention the style. It's basically fried and tossed with a kind of oily sauce with some onions and lettuce. The plate was so oily that the lettuce pretty much absorbed the oil so we didn't eat any of that. If you don't soak the wings in oil, they tasted pretty good, not bad, but definitely not the best way to cook wings in my opinion. Service was really good. They came to take our order quickly, kept refilling our glasses and cleared our table quickly too. This review is about the Pho only. I dont understand how a business that has Pho in their name and is highly rated has such horrible tasting Pho. When I go out to eat I dont really worry about the ambiance or to an extent the cleanliness, as long as the food is good I dont care about the rest. I just cant get over how bad my wife and I's Phos were. The broth tasted like tap water, meat was old and tough, and the tripe was just as bad. There was a funny part to this experience, the young kid behind the counter who was suppose to be attending everyone was too busy painting little figurines and watching a movie on his laptop. She shows no mercy. Anyway, I've tried quite a few spots locally and this is the best. My portion was freaking huge. All business have raised their prices to deal with the times but Pho 4 Queen maintained their portions. The flavor was there. I got the Bun noodle with bbq pork and egg roll. Like I do at any Vietnamese restaurant. If not, I get the house special beef noodle soup which has everything. I downed the entire bowl, I probably shouldn't have because of how big it was but grandma didn't teach a quitter. I got a side of beef broth to taste. A good beef broth is my way of gauging a restaurant's authenticity. Beef noodle soup broth was flavorful and delicious. I'd bring my grandma here. All Hail the Queen! Pho 4 Queen, that is! Seriously, this place is royally GOOD! I like me my Asian yummy, especially when it's affordable, fast, and served with a smile. When it comes to delicious soups, what more can I say except that I'm a total "Pho HO" and I like to try different places. Pho-Ever is very good, but I've been going there for so darn long that, after eating every thing on their menu 5-6 times over, well, I began seeking greater variety. Pho Oceanside is good too but the traffic to get there for me off the I-5 and, or, the Coast Highway can get really hellacious. Kim's is one of the best but also the most expensive. So I began courting some royalty. Took out my smart phone, logged on to my favorite food hooker site, yelp.com, and typed in "Pho". Suddenly the skies cleared, a rainbow appeared, and a golden pathway (aka google maps) pointed me in the direction of Pho 4 Queen! I mean, you just gotta love that name alone!!! It turns out that it's closer to my house than Pho-Ever, just as good, and about 20% cheaper too! I called in my take-out order and the lady who answered the phone was super nice. She quickly took my order and even offered to give me driving directions to the restaurant. How cool is that? Pho 4 Queen is located in a strip mall and is situated between a .99 Cent Only Store and a Western Dental and Orthodontics. There's plenty of parking and the sign on above the business is very easy to see when you look east from Rancho Santa Fe road in San Marcos. Walked in and BAM, my order was ready not more than 10 minutes after I phoned it in! The Spring Rolls were perfection! I ordered​ both the Shrimp and Pork and also the Vegetarian ones. The rice paper wrapper was moist, brilliantly fresh, and literally melted in my mouth after biting into it! Asian Foodie Tip #1- Rice paper wrappers that are overly chewy are O L D! The Grilled Beef Skewer was awesomely divine and fit for a king! It was tender, charred perfectly, and delicately seasoned. Super, duper YUM! The #11 House Special Pho was outstanding! The broth was not overly salty and the meats were meticulously sliced into tender bite size pieces. The rice noodles were soft, perfectly al dente, and served with farm fresh bean sprouts, basil, and onions. Asian Foodie Tip #2- Rice noodles that are brittle or break apart into small pieces/dissolve in your broth are S T A L E! So I totally look forward to coming back to Pho 4 Queen! This place is fantastic and inspires the Foodie Perfectionist in me because, in the words of Oprah Winfrey, "Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. This place is under new management since my last visit. I wanted to give it another go, so I ordered some food togo. Chicken pho with veggies and grilled chicken rice plate They packed the noodles, onion, herbs and veggies in one togo container. I hope I wasn't short on noodles because I ordered veggies with the pho. Anyway, it seemed like it would've travelled better if the veggies were packed separately. The pho broth was extremely salty and lacked flavor. How do I know this? I'm Vietnamese and I grew up on this stuff. The grilled chicken was a bit dry and also pretty bland. We saw this place the other day when we hit up the 99 cent store, and we laughed saying "wow pho 4 queen?" and thought it looked closed. Boyfriend wanted pho (as always), and we decided to look up nearby places close to the movie theater. Ended up choosing this place over others and am so glad that we did! The lady working in the back is so sweet, especially when she delivered our food. The portions were way bigger than I am normally used to in OC, so that was a very nice surprise.
