I ordered the combination fried rice. It was very dry and had no flavor. They only gave me two pieces of shrimp and the rest of the meats were dried up steak and chicken. I ended up throwing it away. What a waste of money. I also ordered the lumpia with extra sauce. I did not get the extra dipping sauce but that was okay since the lumpia sizes where very small and very little meat in them. The shrimp fried rice is tasty here. It has a nice flavor with big pieces of scrambled egg. I like that it doesn't have too much soy sauce in it. The Vietnamese egg rolls are particularly tasty but it was only served with Romaine lettuce leaves and fish sauce. I've been really hoping to find a restaurant that also serve it with rice noodles, bean sprouts, and fresh herbs. I'm still on the hunt for that. I'll back back for sure. read more

Great Pho! My supervisor continually raves about this place and what a better time to try it when it's raining! Went during my lunch hour and about 1/2 the restaurant was full. This place is very very clean and they greeted me immediately. The server was extremely kind and informative about the menu. I ordered the chicken Pho with extra veggies. It came out in about 10min and was delicious! The portions size was great, I took about 1/2 of it to go and had it for dinner. They are definitely quick at getting people in and out. Not quite Campbell's, but this soup was sure MM MM GOOD! Pho is one of my favorite things to eat. Ever. Kevin and I had stopped by a spot that we weren't aware was closed on Tuesdays. So, we drove over to Universal City to try Pho 4 Star. As bummed as we were to see that the other place was closed, the reviews of this restaurant made us feel a bit relieved. The inside was really nice. Super clean. Cool paintings filled the walls. Kevin and I started off with some veggie spring rolls. Not sure if the waitress understood us or not, but she didn't bring us veggie spring rolls. They had pork in them, but they were really good. Couldn't complain. Super hot and perfectly crisp. Kevin ordered his pho with only meatballs, and I ordered my pho with eye round steak, brisket and meatballs. The broth was really delicious and flavorful. The meat was cooked perfectly. Meatballs weren't overcooked or chewy. Everything was great. When it comes to pho spots, my number one concern is the broth. If the broth isn't flavorful then I don't care. It's the base of the entire dish. Overall, this place was pretty good. I wouldn't mind coming here again. Especially since it is so close to home. I still want to try that other spot. I would suggest dining in. We like there Pho, but this time we got it to go. There was raw meat mixed in with the vegetables in the tray (that sounds like a food inspector violation). So better to eat in than dine out. There is one really friendly waitress when you dine in...she wears glasses. The rest deal with you, but they look like they don't want to be there. Second time at Pho 4 Star, first time I have had Pho. We ordered the Summer Rolls as an app, they were larger than expected, and absolutely delicious. I ordered the Chicken Pho and my husband had the Steak Pho. Our son, who did not come along this time, loves their Seafood Pho. The Chicken Pho was lovely! My husband commented that he wished he could recreate the broth. He has had their Steak Pho on previous visits, and was not disappointed this time. Our server was friendly and on point! I'm a sucker for pho and I decided to come here on a rainy day after a visit to Ikea. I was pleased with the service and the restaurant cleanliness. The food came out quick since we both ordered bowls of pho and the large vermicelli noddle egg rolls. I ordered the chicken pho with added veggies which was an extra $2.00. The broth was so delicious! Veggies were plentiful and worth the extra cost. My aunt ordered the beef steak pho and that one was delicious as well. Only reason this place did not get five stars was because they were doing some work on the front door and the sound was very loud my aunt and I couldn't have a conversation for a couple of minutes. I came here on a rainy Sunday with pho on my mind. I was delighted to see one of my favorite Thai dishes on the menu, and after ordering what we thought were going to be fresh spring rolls, things quickly went down hill. It wasn't a terrible experience but nonetheless, it was not pleasant and I thought multiple times about leaving. We did not get fresh spring rolls, instead I believe it was got vegetable egg roll? They were busy, many carry out orders and there was definitely more people dining in than should have. I ordered the Drunken Noodles, with chicken. It was subpar to say the least. The beef pho was decent but had very little steak in it... The main thing that killed it for me was the the waitstaff, the guy next to us waited for over 20 minutes to get a receipt. They seemed somewhat disorganized, and short staffed for the amount of business they had. To summarize; they messed up our appetizer order, messed up the table's next to us transaction Long wait times for them to take our order, For our food to come, which was meh at best. And our transaction, sus. Too many people dining in And the people I dined with claimed there was an odor, but I couldn't smell anything. Pho 4 Star is a decent Vietnamese joint if your favorite spots are out of reach. I ordered the chicken pho with no onions while my sister went for the lemon grass chicken and we ordered a shrimp pad woon sen to-go. My chicken pho was loaded with onions and the broth was mediocre and I had to keep adding things to get the taste right. My sister felt that her dish was not worth the $9 she paid and there was nothing special to it. The spring rolls are tasty and the pad woon sen is great. Our waiter only came to the table to take our order and drop of our food, we had to hunt someone down for refills and ticket. We walked to the counter with no ticket, a waitress attended to us and I had to ask where my to-go order was, our waiter hadn't even submitted it. She rings us up and ends up overcharging on the pad woon sen, I correct her then her attitude went from pleasant to rude. The owner comes to the register and tells me that they have a new menu at the register and that they would be going off of that from now on, I told her that was bad advertising and that she would honor the price on the menus we were given, she did. People don't go to restaurants and order ATTITUDE! I'm willing to give it another shot but not anytime soon. read more

They have hot pot here and we loved it. The selection and variety is great and the broth they provide is delicious. You can enjoy with your friends and family over the hot pot with great conversation and great food. Must try you won't be missing out. We had the seafood and meat combo and as you can see in the picture you can also have a vegetarian friend join and help eat the noodles and tofu are awesome too they have both rice noodle and egg noodle. :) Have one side that's spicy broth and the other non spicy both taste great with perfect balance to go with your meat or clam, mussel, fish or calamari you want to cook and enjoy. Oct2016 return with family for two order of pho and one order of B12 grilled pork, shrimp and Spring roll dined in. The pho was very bland didn't have any flavor other then water down broth. Even ample amount of the basil cilantro and siracha and hoisen sauce couldn't save it. It was such a disappointment. Kim wasn't there so we ask the waiter if they changed chef. He said no still the same chef. I don't know what the reason was for the broth to be so bad. The restaurant was nicely decorated and clean. We were greeted at the door and promptly seated. We ordered shrimp summer roll, pho tai, bun with spring roll, grilled pork, grilled shrimp, and taro boba. The food & drink overall was good. But, I have a few bones to pick: 1) The "grilled" pork & shrimp were assuredly NOT grilled. They were pan fried. I get extremely irritated by false advertisement. 2) We asked for NO bean sprouts after every order and reiterated that we DO NOT want bean sprouts in any of our foods several times. I bit into my summer roll and got a mouthful of bean sprouts. Our garnish plate for the pho had bean sprouts. There were a few sprouts in the bun dish. Grrrr! Luckily for the restaurant, we are not allergic to bean sprouts. But this lack of attention to detail could have dire consequences for people with food allergies! 3) Boba was mushy. But the shake flavor was good. We would go back and try other dishes. Just please keep the bean sprouts away!!! read more

The restaurant was small but well organized and clean, the service was prompt and friendly and the wait was very reasonable. I've been to this location several times. Their pho is tasty, but not my favorite. I'm more inclined to order curry when I'm here. This time, however I wanted to be a bit more adventurous and ordered the papaya salad and decided I'd finally try Bahn mi. The papaya salad was a surprise. The menu doesn't indicate that it has seafood. It has shrimp and, according to the waitress, pickled baby crab legs. The salad wasn't bad, but my tastebuds had no idea what was going on. It's very briney and fishy. If you're not adventurous don't order it. If you love punchy flavors and authentic dishes, this dish is for you. The bahn ni was delicious. It's basically a Vietnamese torta. I will definitely order it next time I'm there and will probably order curry with it to dunk it in.
