I went to Pho 72 for lunch with two of my co workers and I honestly don't understand why this place was given five stars. I've been to many pho places in the past and this one has been the worst. I ordered the beef vermicelli number 27 with a hot Vietnamese coffee and my co workers ordered number 13 which is pho soup with rare steak. The beef in my vermicelli bowl was extremely sweet and salty. Reminded me of Teriyaki beef but overwhelming salty. I did not enjoy one bit of it. I could of probably made it better myself and I've never made Vietnamese food before. I had reminded our server about my coffee but didn't receive it until I was already almost done eating. The vegetarian egg rolls were just okay. My co-workers weren't pleased with their pho tai and they both are pho lovers. They said there was hardly meat in their pho and didn't finish their soup. We asked for chili oil sauce and our server brought us a bit in a mini size plastic condiment container. I was embarrassed with my co-workers because I'm the one who suggested to eat here after I read the wonderful reviews on Yelp. I wouldn't recommend this pho restaurant to anyone. read more

I came here with my friend to try out this new place. It's kind of hidden, but aren't precious gems always hidden? The food and desserts are AMAZING!! The pho broth is absolutely flavorful. They also serve wonderful noodle soup such as Bun Rieu, that is hard to find around here. Usually I have to go to Santa Ana to eat it, but it's merely wonderful that they serve it here, so close to home! And then there's the appetizers, the egg rolls and spring rolls were so fresh and delicious. The service here is magnificent. One aspect that differentiates them from other Asian restaurants is that, not only do they speak perfect English, they are super friendly, sweet and helpful. What!? Another Vietnamese/Pho joint along Waterman Ave? My thoughts exactly when I saw this place. There was a "coming soon" sign for the longest time and now it is finally open. So the sign out front said 'Grand Opening' and inside they said they are giving out free egg rolls with purchase. So we are off to a good start. I came with a friend and the hostess sat us down pretty quickly. The space is smaller than the other places nearby, but it basically looks like your typical pho joint. The prices are a little cheaper than other places, but not too much. I ordered the pho with flank and brisket and my friend ordered the combination fried rice. Not too many people pay attention to this, but the side veggies that accompany the soup is important to check. The basil and bean sprout looked very fresh. Sometimes you get the nasty and wilted stuff, but this place (so far) has the good stuff. The food took a little longer than I wanted, but since they are new I am hoping they will improve on that. There were a few other tables sitted as well. Anyway, back to the soup. It came out nice and hot and the broth was quite delicious. The meat was plentiful, which is awesome, because I like to have a piece in every spoonful with my noodle and soup. I add the basil, bean sprout, jalepenos, and lime juice. I don't like to taint the soup with sauce, so I dip the meat in hoisin and sirracha on the side. I had a bite of my friend's fried rice and it was pretty good. It had beef, chicken, shrimp and had that fresh-off-the-wok taste. All in all, it was a good visit and I would recommend this place to friends and family. I will likely come back and try some of the other dishes. By the way, the service here is better than most other Vietnamese places. They were actually responsive and got the drinks out quickly, which is rare. They also take credit cards. read more

Had to leave a review because I saw some haters on here dissing the name. Pho 72 is the best pho I've had in my life and I lived in Orange County for 5 years. I'm not kidding, every part of the bowl comes together in perfect delectable union while providing a simple background for your own customization and preferences. The beef is the most plentiful, tender AND flavorful I've had. The broth is delicious and is on the sweet side. I often find myself quickly diving into a bowl for several slurps before adding any spice, herb, or acid. The noodles- never overcooked. And the same young dude is there each time and gives good recommendations. What more can you ask for in a bowl of pho? In an establishment? I ate here one day after craving Pho for awhile. I ordered the rare steak pho. It was tasty enough, but there were only 3 slices of steak. I was disappointed by that fact but the flavor of the broth was so good I forgot. As I was paying my bill I saw someone eating Bulgogi and I've got to get back. This is a small Mom & Pop Vietnamese restaurant that has great food and great service. There is plenty to choose from too. I had the chicken pho along with their chicken egg rolls and both were excellent. While I was there, there was a lot of to-go orders and pickups. I dined in and it was clean and sanitized after in-dining guests leave. If I'm in the area again, I will go back and try their vermicelli dishes and more egg rolls. I highly recommend. Solid Pho. The area is blessed with a lot of good pho, and this is one of them. My friend got the beef pho with flank meat, while I got the veggie pho, but with beef broth, and we shared a tofu banhmi. Everything was delicious, and I especially enjoyed the portions. This place is well lit and super clean (although they still need to touch up the paint in areas). Each table is neatly organized with a few different sauces to spice or sweeten up or add some saltiness to your food. I ordered the Chicken Pho (Pho Ga) for lunch. The broth was nice and hot and the chicken in the broth was nice, big chunks of chicken breast. They provide you with basil, lime, bean sprouts and jalapeno to customize your pho. For sauces, I always add the Sriracha and sweet bean sauce (creates a sweet but spicy broth). I really enjoyed the Pho. I also ordered an order of two spring rolls which come with pork and shrimp inside. The peanut sauce they provide was excellent and went well with the herbs inside the rolls. Currently, you are provided with a free cup of hot or iced green tea with your meal. I went with the iced green tea, which I thought was pretty good. It had a slight sweetness and definite earthiness to it; overall, it was refreshing. I'll definitely be back to try more things off the menu. I'm also going to tell my good friend that we she needs to try this Pho place out (instead of our usual spot). If everything else I try is as good as the pho and spring rolls, you can expect a fifth star being added to this review. read more

How does this place have almost 5 stars lol I'm only assuming it's the best you can get in this area but the food is so low quality, I didn't even finish my food and I LOVE pho. For starters, tell me why they gave us ONE plate of veggies to a group of 5. Y'all stingy?? I ordered the #10 (rare steak + tendon) and requested rare steak on side, no onions. Gave me all the meat on the side (not really complaining) and ALL THE ONIONS. Now my actual complaint about the meat was that the tendon was a fucking joke. I got maybe 3-4 super thin slivers of fatty tendon. The fat to tendon ratio was like a 4:1. If I wanted fat, I'd order fat. No thanks. As for the meat, I get it. I'm not expecting fresh off the cow and most likely it's precut and stored for later but my meat was straight up still icy. Ya girl loves the sound of crunchy, icy meat as I pick it up with my chopsticks. Yasss bihhh And even with my copious amounts of hoisin sauce, it was still bland. Amazing. I'm not a picky eater and will eat anything but how you gonna disrespect the food of my people like that!! Best pho place in town and is very reasonable. Daughter will not eat pho from anywhere else. Nice friendly staff and food is consistently 5 stars. I have ordered the pho's and shrimp fried rice which were perfect. I have also had the bbq pork noodles with egg rolls and not bad. I ordered the vegetarian spring rolls... never had a worse spring roll in my entire life! I asked what came in them and I was told vegetables, noodles, and tofu. I asked if the tofu was marinated and was told yes. I asked what types of vegetables and was told lettuce, bean sprouts, cabbage, carrots, the regular vegetables. I asked if I could omit the green onion and was told yes. I get my spring rolls and they were lettuce, mint, green onion, the most tasteless tofu I have ever eaten and noodles. The soy sauce I was given was disgusting! Maybe it was old or something, but it was fishy, not salty. I had to double check that it was even soy sauce. I may go back to try the pho which seems to be getting raves reviews, but they need to trash those spring rolls, or learn how to make proper ones. Pho 72 was an average viet restaurant in my opinion. I wasn't expecting a life changing experience, but I also wasn't expecting a run down soup kiosk. It fell slightly lower than the middle of this. The food was ok, shrimp spring rolls rolls tasted of old shrimp, dancing on the side of going bad. I know what fresh tastes like, and it wasn't this. I had the seafood pho, and the wife got a grilled chicken Banh mi. She said it was good. I wasn't impressed. My pho had 3 shrimp, 4 -2" pieces of imitation crab, and 3 fish balls, 3 pieces of cuttlefish,and vermicelli rice noodles. The veggies weren't very fresh, bean sprouts were sprouting, and the basil was turning. Had some green jalapeño but that stays green for like months after being cropped. A slice of lime was ok, lol. Also, where was the mint??? Negative points** The broth was decent but I kept fighting a bad seafood taste in it so yeah that ruined it for me. ***NOTE TO PHO72*** when you sell/serve a seafood soup and you have VERY little seafood in it, MAKE SURE ITS FRESH!! The restaurant wasnt the cleanest, and had old cafe type vinyl benches with duct taped rips.( different color duct tape too!) I didn't bother even trying to go to the restroom. I'm glad because I can envision a sinister scene of bacteria villains playing out a scene from fear and loathing in there, don't really want to know anyhow. This place gets one less star from the main customer/ only other people in the place besides us, being obnoxious and rude af. I really wanted to knock him out, but I'm trying to live a more civilized life now. He stepped outside and stood in front of the glass windows to blow snot rockets out of his meth snout for around 2-3 minutes while on the phone.. also spitting what I assume to be tuberculosis venom while smiling at his lunch date. He came back in and was louder than magic mountain ride on grad nite x free beer. It was all I could do not to stand up and dump hot soup on his tiny five foot seven and a half inch self.
