Tucked away in a strip mall....pho 78 is pretty authentic, being that I am Vietnamese myself....they have mom cooking in the kitchen and it's family owned. The restaurant itself is very clean as well....Even though I can cook it myself, I'm just too darn lazy! Sunday lunch we arrived at about 12:30. The restaurant was completely empty. Not one customer. This should have let me know it all, but I decide to give it a chance. We ordered : egg rolls (fair), spring rolls (loosely wrapped, with a strange slice of beige deli meat inside, and no herbs), a small pho (it was still rather large, but the broth was tasteless), and two types of Banh mi - neither very good. Word to B I G bird on Pho 78! Yes Yes Ya'll and they don't stop! I've found a good Viet place in close distance and my hat goes off to the owners for getting it right, mostly~ I'll start with the good and end with the mostly... Overall, the items that I pretty much order every time I go for Viet give or take a few times I stray for Pho or something else were good at Pho 78. The summer rolls tasted fresh...not awesome, not the best but work and the sauce fit perfectly. The bun with grilled pork and spring rolls was a true delight...everything about it was delicious. The new part I tried at Pho 78 was the short rib appetizer..woooooooo weeeeee that was good! Yum ME! I could go back and just eat orders upon orders of that, alone. The service was excellent..very attentive yet not in your face. I can really wrap my arms around that kind of service..grateful and accommodating at the same time very real and unobtrusive. The mostly was that they don't serve beer and wine and a beer would have gone nicely with everything that Saturday afternoon. I'm excited for my next visit and would recommend to anyone looking for a new adventure or looking for a taste of the tried in true and feel at 'home.' read more

Yummy yummy pho! We came in here on a whim and boy are we pleased. They have three sizes of pho and the medium is larger the size of a large in most places. The broth is hearty and the meat and noodles are super plentiful. We went back a few days later and got a large. SO much food. Won't be getting a large again, I don't think. I'll stick to a medium or small so I don't feel like exploding in soup heaven :) I also tried their boba drink. I got the passion fruit 'milk tea' which is more of a drink than milk tea. Not a lot of dairy in it, if at all. The bobas came out warm, which I actually like because then they don't get hard and they stay chewy for longer. The drink itself was very sweet but still kept a fruity taste so maybe they use real fruit and it's not all juice. Who knows? I would order it again. read more

Hands down. This is still my favorite pho place in Davie area. I like their soup base way better than other places I've tried around here. But I am ONLY reviewing for a bowl of pho. I usually get the small bowl of pho. I think they've raised their prices a little bit from 5.95 to 6.95? But still cheaper than other places from what I remember. I usually get the soup with rare steak and brisket. Mix the sriracha and hoison sauce together in a small dish to dip the meats later. You can also put some sriracha in your soup to give it a little kick. I personally prefer putting couple of the jalapenos into the soup and that usually does the trick without messing with the flavor of the soup base. I know some people also love putting the brown hoison sauce into their soup. The sprouts and the mint leaves you pile it on top of your soup bowl. Then flip the contents so that the rare meats and the veggies are at the bottom and the rice noodles at the top. I will usually eat the noodle first while sippin on the soup with the spoon. Then along the way, I will pick up the meat that's cooked and dip it into the sause I made earlier (see above) before devouring the delicious morsel. I finish the meal with eating the cooked veggies and slurpin the soup to cleanse my palate. with a full and happy stomach, i look forward to the next time i'll b back to quench my pho craving! They have a very respectable sized menu of pho, bahn mi, rice dishes, and boba/bubble tea. I got a large pho tai chin, pork summer rolls, and a bubble tea. I really enjoyed the pho and the bubble tea (though the tapioca was a bit firmer than I'm used to), but the pork roll was pretty flavorless. My friend is a huge pho fan so she took me to Pho 78. It's a small, open restaurant with wood floors. There are no booths, all tables. The waitress got us water right away and was patient with our menu questions. Most of the pho soups were with beef broth base, and you choose different types of beef to put in it like brisket, steak, tripe, etc. They serve a plate of bean sprouts and thai basil to add to the soup. I got the seafood pho. It was a big mess to eat! The noodles in them were like one mega clump so everyone at the table looked like they were chewing on a noodle beard hanging out of their mouth. I finally requested a knife to cut it up but it's hard to cut up something floating around in liquid. Also the pieces of shrimp in my pho had the tail on so I had to elegantly pick them out of my soup to rip off the tails (better than chewing them and picking them out of my mouth). I really wanted to like pho, but this is my second try (first at a diff restaurant), and I think I'm not really a fan. Also, for this particular place, I think it is too overpriced ($10-$13) for what is basically a bowl of soup mostly made of noodles and broth. When you add in a drink and tip, it's almost $20 for bowl of soup dinner. Also their menu is not vegetarian friendly--the only two veggie options I found were spring rolls and a rice plate. I liked the Presentation, Serving Size, Service, and Restaurant Timings. The taste of the pho itself is good. However, I guess I'm just not a pho person. This restaurant was kind of like a guy who is good on paper and there is nothing wrong with him per se, but for some reason, you still don't really like him. read more

Not much in the way of decor, but clean and airy - perfect for having soup and noodles! The menu is a bit hard to understand, however, as it's really all in Vietnamese. However, if you tell them what you like/want, they'll suggest the perfect dish/soup! The soup was absolutely incredible! Great for a post-party (little hangover) meal! We chose this place because of the good overall reviews, and it was a huge disappointment. They get a zero for ambiance. No music, just a large, dank room with the annoyingly loud vibrating hum of a refrigerator on one side. I love a good hole in the wall restaurant, but these guys take no pride in theirs. I had a large seafood Pho...it was okay if you don't mind the lack of quality ingredients. There were a handful of small shrimp, a few fish balls, some fake Krab, a few small scallops, some canned pineapple chunks and lots of rice noodles. The summer rolls were $6 for an order of two...they each had two small shrimp and alot of rice noodles. Vietnamese coffees (basically an espresso sized coffee that filters through a cup-top pot into a cup filled with condensed milk) was a rip-off $5 each. Lunch for two with each getting one large Pho, one Vietnamese coffee and one summer roll was $47 before tip. On the plus side, the bathroom was clean. :) You can do better pretty much anywhere else. read more

I can't tell you how thrilled I am that there is a FINALLY a Vietnamese restaurant that is close enough to be convenient! GIANT (like GALLONS!) sized bowls of Pho. So far we've tried Bo Vein (meatballs) and Pho w/rare round eye steak. Both very good. I keep getting #46 - "Special Bun" ($13.99) - grilled pork strips, chicken, shrimp, and egg roll. Classic. Good garlic-chili sauce, nice fresh veggies and herbs. Very good - not the best I've ever had, but good enough to have me craving it (tried this place for the first time on Sunday, went back Wednesday for lunch, and will probably go again this weekend). We also tried the spring roll appetizer - fresh, not fried - pretty good, standard spring roll. We also tried a Bahn Mi as an appetizer (Only $4.50!) with grilled pork. It was good, but not spectacular, but for $4.50 it was definitely worth it. I want to try the grilled chicken next. Bonus points - this place is right next to a little Asian market. Its hard to find a good authentic pho place so I was skeptical; however, when I walked in I had a good feeling for a couple of reasons: 1. It smells delicious 2. the decor is awful (this is a good thing!) 3. there was vietnamese idol playing on the television 4. the customers in the booth closest to me looked stuffed and they still had half a bowl left So once I tasted the chicken and shrimp pho rice noodle bowl with all the fixings and my beloved Sriracha I was hooked. They don't skimp on the rice noodles, broth is super flavorful, and meat is tender. The service was quick and polite. If you happen to need a lunch break, have a craving for decent pho, and work near University Drive in the Sunrise area, I would suggest going to Pho 78. The restaurant is small but spacious, pretty clean, and has a calm atmosphere, good for those looking for a quiet break from a hectic work day. Service is alright and the pho comes out really fast (about 5 minutes, I actually timed it a few times). The soup is also hot and steamy, so I like to order pho with meat on the side, otherwise the meat will be too well done by the time it gets to the table. Lots of noodles in the bowl, but not that much meat, and it comes with the standard sides of bean sprouts, basil leaves, limes, and jalapenos. Though a large bowl of pho is a bit more expensive than other places (~$9.50), I think the fast delivery of food and the peaceful solitude away from the office makes the pho here quite enjoyable for those lunch breaks. Also the fact that I do not get ridiculously thirsty after eating here means that they do not have too much MSG in their broth. Good stuff. read more

I really wanted to like this place since it is conveniently located. We started with an order of summer rolls. The peanut sauce was lacking in flavor but the roll itself was OK. I think it needed some additional type of seasoning in it. My friend and I both ordered the vermicelli bowls. Mine was chicken, hers was pork. Again, something was missing as the food was lacking in flavor. I added some hot sauce to mine and a little bit of the hoison sauce. While it did help some, the food itself was just missing some type of flavor. Honestly it was just bland. I also ordered a blueberry bubble tea. I generally enjoy bubble tea and the blueberry flavor was good. However, the Boba balls were frozen. I didn't really care much for the frozen Boba balls. Service was good and while the place was empty when we arrived, but the time we left there were other patrons eating. I might return and give them another chance, or I might try another restaurant. Tried this place out instead of the usual place I go which is a lot further (commercial & 441) and will say that I'm satisfied all around. Placed a take out order and it was ready in 15 minutes. We tried the shrimp & pork summer rolls which came with the infamous peanut sauce, lychee boba tea and the com rice platter with pork strips. All the veggies were fresh, sauces flavorful and the meat tender & charred just right. Not the best Vietnamese restaurant I've been too but will definitely go back again as it hit the spot, the location is convenient and the service was quick and friendly. read more
