Pho is like cereal, pop tarts, oatmeal and egg scramble, where its a breakfast staple for the vietnamese people. Its basically how people start their day. Since Pho 90 opens as early as 9 am, Pho 90 is the perfect place to have a nice bowl of hot breakfast for under $10 especially on a rainy gloomy day (which is rare in Fresno California). My personal favorite is the my bowl of breakfast soup served with flank steak, tendons and tripe. Everyone usually judges a bowl of Pho from any place by its broth, because essentially that is where all the flavor and taste lies for this dish. A good pho broth is crystal clear, like a French consommé. For pho bo (beef), there's the underlying earthiness brought on by the long simmering of bones, oxtail and flank. The broth at Pho 90 succeeds in having a nice clear broth with that earthy deep favored beef broth. The second component of the broth is spice and aromatics. In pho, cinnamon and star anise lead the charge, with assists from cloves and cardamom. Roasted and/or charred onions and ginger are the key vegetable components. In my opinion I thought the flavors was on point with the spices, maybe some spice flavor was stronger than others, but not a major issue, I still think the best flavored beef broth is from Pho75-2, but that is just my personal opinion, nevertheless this place is not inferior in anyway to Pho 75-2. A bowl of pho usually comes with herbs and vegetable garnishes and also other condiments usually placed on the table like at Pho-90. The most important thing to do when a bowl of pho lands on your table is to take a sip of the broth a resist yourself from messing this broth with sauce and greenery from that garnish plate. Sip the broth and savor the complexity. Appreciate the time that has gone into this pristine liquid. If you did that you would know that the taste of the broth here is simply delicious. The noodles here is standard with everywhere else, so Im not going in depth with it, while the meat here has been tender and the taste is really of good quality. I honestly love the broth of pho here, but I wont go as far to say its the best in the world. The interior is seriously dodgy, but the establishment is clean. The banquet area is spacious and is made perfect for a group eat. They use to be cash only, but they have since been technology friendly and is now accepting credit cards as a method payment, talking about payment, I must also add that their prices is very affordable here, everything was under $8. So kudos to that. The service here is friendly, but don't expect some 5 start service. Its without a surprise that I would be back. read more

Some friends and myself decided to come to this place after our Yosemite trip since Fresno is the closest big city to Yosemite. We decided to check out this place because it is the highest rated Vietnamese restaurant in Fresno with 4 stars on Yelp. I ordered the Pho Xe Lua, which is the extra large size pho. It was $6.25 and it arrived in a large bowl. The broth itself was "okay". It had flavor but wasn't too flavorful. The meat was average quality, and part of the pinkish rare steak that was still cooking in the broth didn't look too particularly fresh. The vermicelli had a slightly harder than usual texture, and it's probably because it wasn't cooked long enough. Overall, I thought the pho was a little below average. The service however was quick, and we all received our orders within 5 minutes of ordering. read more

Broth is very good and the noodle a little al dente, both the rare and well done is the right cut of beef and sliced the right thickness. This is a great little Pho restaurant. Great noodles, the broth is delicious, the Thai Basil and Mung bean sprouts with Jalapeno garnish that comes with the noodles is always fresh and plentiful. I order the Pho Tai, which is rare beef slices that cook in the hot broth as you watch. Use a little Satay and go to town. The prices are not bad, a medium bowl of Pho Tai was 6.21 including tax but not tip. I also recommend the Goi Cuan spring rolls. All I wish is that they kept some Thai Prik Nam Pla around for them! I do not find the place dirty, either. It is just not fancy. But the tables were clean, the counter was clean, it smells fine. I didn't see back in the kitchen but nothing about the place worries me The joint is in a little strip mall on the Southeast corner of Clinton and Fresno, right near the VA Hospital. It's sorta ghetto but the peeps are friendly and the food is really good. Be sure to bring cash because they don't take credit cards here. Looking for a good pho place? Here it is! I had possibly the best pho that I've had in California here. This includes Orange County, where pho options are ample and I grew up living close to Lee's Sandwiches and my pick of Vietnamese restaurants. I had the beef noodle soup with rare steak, and the broth had that depth I am looking for in good pho, but it also had a sort of clean after-taste. I didn't get that msg-induced sluggishness that I often experience after eating pho. My table also shared the #5 Grilled Pork Banh Mi and this was a crunchy, spicy, tangy, smoky and savory treat with the crunchy baguette giving way into the soft hollow-ish middle filled with cucumber, lettuce, radish and carrot pickles, chili sauce, mayo, sliced jalapenos (watch out for those rogue ones that slip in whole into one bite) and of course the grilled pork. The pork was a bit too fatty for my taste, but if you don't mind that, it really did come together nicely into one amazing bite full of so many different types of flavors and textures. Ah... the banh mi is a blessing to us all. I washed it all down with a cup of their thai tea which wasn't at all watered down, but was nicely fragrant and smooth. Our Sunday ritual for our little family is a bowl of yummy pho aka noodles in yummy broth with endless pairings of different meats, seafoods and tons of fresh bean sprouts, thai basil, thick slices of jalapeno and wedges of lime. If I could give no stars I would .... heard about this place and since it's a small business we decided to drive in the rain ( a good 20mins away) walked in the lady at the register YELLS no no no ! No dine in we looked around , said us ?? She said ya no dine in . I walked up to the register and said why is tht ?? She said because we close right now @6:30 I said ohh well the only reason we came was becuz it says open till 8 on google... she then said no dine in only 20% of ppl can be in here there was one table in the corner and one long table in the middle . During my search of finding the best Pho restaurant in town I made a great decision by stopping at Pho 90 on the Southeast corner of Fresno & Clinton. The place was exceptionally clean, the sauces and oils at the table were filled to their brims, the food was as tasty as it gets and sure didn't hurt that the waitress was a fifty-something year old dime piece (my wife and I agreed, so it's ok I said that). As soon as we opened the door we heard, "welcome, sit wherever you'd like" which is always a sentence I love hearing when entering a new food establishment. Skimming the room for a seat I was happy to see that every available table was clean and the accompanying oils were all filled. Since it was beautiful outside, the wife and I sat next to the window and the waitress was there before I could even remove my badass hat and sunglasses. After we got over how well built the waitress was the wife and I ordered the # 26 and # 29. I can't remember exactly what came in them other than meat from a magical cow, veggies from a galactic garden and sauces from places where succulence is worshipped. The noodles were rice noodles and were packed into my large bowl so high that it resembled some sorta noodle island in an ocean of chili oil, hoisin sauce and magic cow meat. If I were a sitophile I would have to store the image in the ol' spank bank. After paying the bill, complimenting the smoke show of a lady, I left the place rubbing my belly satisfactorily. I got to my g-ride and looked up to the sky and saw a cloud in the shape of a dragon. Are they related? Hell no, but I do enjoy looking up at the clouds after eating at great places. Right when we walked in, another customer is cleaning her own plate of food after eating and the owner of the store is yelling at her "Sister, don't clean up, you're putting oil on all the other plates!" We had to seat ourselves and the owner comes up and says "Why you sit there? There's no sauce there. Sit over there." She points to another table... Once we moved over, she started to take our order. I asked her if we substitute the chow fun for the chow neon, and she yells out no. We've always substituted this at this store. I was shocked! Never again will we eat at this restaurant. She needs to get major customer training classes. No wonder other races give us Asians a bad name when it comes to customer service..HORRIBLE!!!! read more

Not only that, the staff is more friendly and they do a better job keeping the place clean. Everytime I go in, I always get a warm hello and a friendly smile from the owner. I've had their pho a handful of times and it was decent, although that was a couple years ago. Today my boyfriend bought me a bahn mi from here.... terrible..worst I've had in town! The bread was obviously not fresh, stale and rubbery and probably microwaved. The fillings were super sparse and the pickled veggies had no pickled flavor of any kind! All I taste in the entire sandwich is a faint note of lemongrass, maybe it was infused into the meat but it doesn't belong. They don't make their own mayo, I don't see any on here actually. According to my boyfriend they don't serve headcheese on their bahn mi either. I'm just picking at the sandwich with a disgruntled look on my face...we should have gone to Huong Lan! read more

I was introduced to this culinary masterpiece in college. Shortly after, I learned how to say "Pho". One of my go to places to eat, in Fresno is Pho 90. The food was exactly the same no matter what time of year, time of day. This is not easy. Somewhere at the end of 2015, Pho 90 sold to another Vietnamese family. The immediate changes were in adding credit card processing. Before it was a cash only establishment. They have added slushie style beverages. Also, the now have menues that are printed. The whole family loves Pho. The pricing is very inexpensive, even compared to other Pho restaurants. The food tastes great and the had all the additives on the table. The one drawback came to light hours after. See, I have an allergy to MSG. While not a life threatening condition, there is nothing like an MSG reaction. For me, the joints in my hands and fingers swell and burn. I know it is very common in Asian cooking to use MSG as a flavor enhancer. However, in the thousands of bowls of Pho I've only had this reaction twice before. If not for the reaction, this place gets 5 stars with no hesitation. read more

This is a pretty good place. The taste of the pho was standard. Nothing too abnormal there. The condiments were all fresh - the basil was not discolored as it often is at some places. They had all of the standard add ons available - sriracha, chili oil, hoisin, etc. The egg rolls were decent too. One thing that really stood out to me : this place is VERY clean. It is the cleanest pho place I have been to in Fresno ! One thing to watch out for - once you have received your order the service plummets. You have to flag them down if you want anything else. This place is phokin amazing!!! I like Pho anytime of the year and every time i go i leave with a smile on my face and a full warm belly. I order the chicken pho or tripe when im being adventurous. The small bowl is huge with the diameter being around 61/2 inches, which is pretty big for a small bowl. Its served with the type of noodles it comes with unless you order different and a flavorful broth that you want to just drink out of the bowl!! An hour later and I was still waiting. The owner just kept telling me, "You're next, your next." Pho 90 gives the best bang for the buck. Simply put for the cost and the quantity and the quality of the pho, Pho 90 delivers. The interior of pho 90 is nothing spectacular, but who cares its clean enough and there is adequate space for plenty of people and the table spacing give good elbow room. The pho here is delicious. I have no qualms about their pho. They give enough meat and tendon and noodle and soup ratio. Everything is hot and looks presentable. They have the usual condiments on the side. hosing sauce and red rooster sauce. They have the hott chilli oil and other items. The only thing i wish they had were pickled jalapeños slices, but they bring fresh cut jalapenos slices with the bean sprouts and basil and lime/lemon anyways. After reading a few different reviews I figured I would try it out. We were the last customers of the night. We showed up at 8:30. Apparently they close at 9. I ordered my usual rare steak pho(5.25 large) and an order of spring rolls(3.50). Lets start with the pho. Out of the places I have been the broth has the best flavor I have had. They had tons of noodles. But they slacked a little on the meat. But the flavor was just awesome. So then tried the spring rolls. The peanut sauce is usually my favorite. They had the worse flavor I have had. It was bland, I added soy sauce to give it something. The roll it self was OK. It also lacked flavor. My friend ordered the egg rolls and they were actually good. So the pho would pull 3stars, the spring rolls about a 2 star, and the egg rolls a 4( they could be bigger) CASH ONLY read more

After suffering through SLOW service at Pho Bac Hoa Viet that is closer to my house, I've come to realize that I can get fed faster at Pho 90, even thought it is a cross-town drive for me. It was my first time here and ,it will be my last. The lady with the short hair is rude as f$#@k! First she rushes you to place your order and she yells me to go sit down. I went outside and came back and asked if I could get pork instead of beef in my sandwich she said no it's to late they made it already. So as i stood by the counter she yelled at me like I was one of her kids to go sit down, I told her I didn't want to sit down. Lol. Today I realized I have never been to a Pho restaurant in this town, and I set out to remedy this immediately. My roommate and myself decided to come here for lunch, and I am pretty glad that I did. We each got a large bowl of Pho (I can't remember the name or the number!) and shared a side of some spicy beef rice. We probably should have omitted the rice, or at least gotten a smaller bowl of pho. We were both feeling pretty hungry, but it ended up being more than we wanted for lunch. The large was pretty big, so I would be curious to see how big an XXL bowl is! The pho itself was very good. The broth was tasty, and they brought out some garnishes to go with it. (Basil, bean sprouts, and jalapenos.) The spicy beef rice was extremely good as well, the sauce was really good and had some complex flavors in it. All in all I was quite satisfied with this place. As far as complaints of cold food and a dirty restaurant, I didn't see any hint of that. The place was pretty jumping when we arrived at 12:30, and everything was extremely clean.
