Not bad, but not the best either. I found the broth to be slightly under-tuned. It did come out nice and hot, but the flavor was just decent. The noodles and most other things were good. I did also find the steak to be just a tad thick and overcooked. This was not bad, but I like the places that have them super thin and drop it in right before giving the bowl to the customer, where you can still see some pink on it. I liked my bahn mi here more than the pho and without it, this might have been a three star review. The baguette had a satisfying crunch, and the pork was juicy and savory. Home away from home. I've been looking for an authentic Vietnamese resultant similar to ones in the OC area and this comes very close. This a nice quiet small dinning room place to enjoy a good meal. The servcie is exemplary and VERY quick. We sat down and ordered and within 5 minutes our food was delivered steaming hot. The portions are good size, even for the kids size. The BBQ pork is ground pork with some vegetables and not just meat which was the only surprise. Everything had good flavor. We went on a Saturday about 5pm and were able to walk right in and sit anywhere. Others showed up about 6pm and still excellent service and reasonable prices. read more

Been coming here for years and it's always been consistent. I always like getting the fried egg rolls, spring rolls, pho, and grilled pork chop with rice here. Egg rolls and spring rolls are always fresh and the fillings are seasoned well. They give a good sized portion for all their food options. For indoor seating, you get to choose where you want to sit as long as there's tables open as there is limited seating. Service is quick and efficient. Ambiance of the restaurant is casual. I had stopped coming to Pho Anh & Grill for many reasons. Since Covid days, there was not much of a choice and currently, there are no other Vietnamese restaurants in Imperial Beach area. Pho Anh is just a mile down from my home. The food is mediocre, definitely not top shelf. It doesn't rank high on savor, seasonings, and quality. Don't get me wrong, the place is not terrible, it does its job. However, if your desperate and don't feel like driving further out into other areas of San Diego: Chula vista (Broadway 4 miles) or National City (plaza blvd 8miles) or City Heights (El Cajon blvd 12 miles), Kearny Mesa (Linda vista road 16 miles), or Mira Mesa (Mira Mesa blvd 23 miles), then you will never know what you're missing. Besides better seatings and service, you will never know what other Vietnamese restaurants out there have to offer and more. Why glorify a place if you have nothing else to compare it to. Trust me, my family, my friends and I, have eaten at Pho Anh mulitiple times (more than I can count) until other Vietnamese restaurants have been discovered. Our taste buds are worth it. I discovered them during the pandemic so, I haven't had the chance to really try them out... Phở is meant to be a dine-in option... you cannot accurately judge a restaurant's phở if you take home... (I will judge you for that...) That being said, I've had their bánh mì and bún/cơm thịt nướng many times to go, and have always been very satisfied. The bánh mì is very nicely prepared, big portions, good amount of meat, and mayo is done just right. Crispy exterior, chewy bread... flavorful meat... crunchy veggies... its exactly how a bánh mì should be. The bún/cơm thịt nướng, also very excellent. The meat is perfectly marinated and grilled. Good sized portions. Make sure you sip that broth! If you don't... you're missing out. And you can trust my review cause I'm viet! Only thing stopping me from the 5th star... The prices have definitely gone up this past year but, it's still pretty affordable and the food is worth it. This place is kind of small and gets packed which means that sometimes you won't be able to get a table. But, most of the time I just order for pick-up to avoid the problem. Also, the customer service here isn't the best. You will be sitting at your table for a while before you get a refill of water or whatever. They seat you and just forget about you sometimes. This is the main reason why I usually always order for pick-up. But...the food here is delicious enough and I've had more good experiences than bad experiences so, I always come back.
