A friend and I visited this place on a Monday morning. We walked in right at opening time and was ignored by the server as she opened the door and walked past us with a cold hello and no eye contact. We were left standing in the restaurant, my friend is walking with a cane, while she went outside to put up the special sign and opened up the outdoor umbrellas. About 7 minutes later, she came in and asked "How can I help you?" as though she did not see us before that, it was almost comical. We were very dissapointed with her attitude. She was more interested in her phone than the customers throughout the entire time we were there. Later on, a male server came and he was more friendly and attentive. We both ordered Pho, and it was good but not great. (6.5/10). We had a wonderful dining experience at Pho Au Lac. As soon as we sat down, our server suggested a Vietnamese beer called Tiger for my husband and a red wine for me. The wine pour was heavy and the beer was very good. We started with the fried dumplings. They were crispy and delicious and the sauce was amazing. Our server offered to give us a side of the sauce to go. For dinner, we got the Chicken Pad Thai, Chicken Pho, Seafood Fried Crispy Egg Noodle Chef Special. Due to work, I was in the neighborhood every day for a week... a friend and I tried Pho Au Lac at the beginning of the week and I ended up eating there three times by the end of the week. I had the Mongolian noodles with beef twice, and it was just amazing comfort food. I also had the Lemongrass chicken which provided great flavor. I also have to add that their Vietnamese coffee might be the best coffee I've ever had (and the large is LARGE)! read more

I have never ordered on a weekend before so perhaps that was it but the shrimp were smaller and less, the veggies a smaller portion and carelessly cooked and the broth was missing some soul. I ordered from this place for delivery on a sick day at home. I wanted something hot and feel-good to try and snap out of my cold so I went with the wonton soup. I'm a sucker for crab rangoon, so I ordered a couple of those as well. The rangoon were delicious; so crispy on the outside and had plenty of crab and cream cheese filling. I could have eaten 30 of those and died happy that night. Unfortunately, the wonton soup was less impressive. The broth itself was yummy, with lots of flavor (though I wish I had been in the restaurant to see what hot sauces they have to add a little kick. The wontons were okay; a little flavorless but nothing inedible. I wish I could give them a better review. But the dishes are very sub par compared to the top Viet places downtown and Thai dishes , um. They need to Stick to just 1 cuisine. Take a note from BaanChan Thai on colonial which has amazing Thai dishes at 20% less cost. The leftovers I took home and ate today and it was not edible for us. And tip for owners : if you charge $6.75 for a smoothie, please use real fruit and not powder. My strawberry mango tasted like some nutty powder. I was pleasantly surprised by this Pho place. The food, especially the pho deserves five stars. My new favorite place to get pho! However I took off a star for atmosphere. Something about this place makes it feel temporary. The building that the restaurant is in has changed restaurants many times in the past few years so I hope this place makes it. Another thing that bothers me just a little is the Thai and Japanese food on the menu when they claim to be Vietnamese. I know that average Americans would not know the difference but I find it nice when restaurants are authentic and not just trying to sell more. Overall, I would come back for the pho and I hope that I will find some other tasty items on the menu. read more

I can say confidently that it is hands down the best dining experience in the area. we were greeted immediately upon entering the beautiful decorated dining room by Henry, quite possibly the hardest working, most attentive server that I have ever seen outside of upscale fine dining (owners, please take note... keep this man on your staff as he represents your business stunningly). The food was packed with bold flavors, extremely plentiful and very affordable. Throughout the meal Henry was ever present, ensuring that we were taken care of and treated our 4 year old like an absolute princess. My daughter had the Chicken Rice plate (sesame) which she loved! It came with a heaping serving of chicken, rice topped with a fried egg and salad. Sophie has always been an adventurous eater, but the enthusiasm that she put into this dish surprised me even. I ordered the Pho Au Lac, the restaurant's namesake dish. This giant bowl (understatement) of traditional Vietnamese noodle soup was loaded with a generous serving of eye round, brisket and and beef meatballs swimming in an aromatic, hearty broth and was comforting on it's deepest level. My wife's dish however stole the show... I cannot even begin to explain how delicious the pork and egg roll vermicelli truly is. Order this and don't look back... It is AMAZING. I know I have been laying the praise heavily, but I cannot stress enough... this restaurant is an absolute gem. The quality of food alone would warrant a return visit, but their devotion to hospitality and desire to turn a Wednesday night that I was just too lazy to cook into a memorable dining experience has cemented us a loyal customers! In a scale from 1 to 5 and 5 being the highest score I will rate the over all experience a 3 , While the portions were a great value for the purchase price. THE BIGGEST disappointment was that the food was COLD and it is fair to say that I only live 3.6 miles away from the restaurant. In there defense I will say I had what they considered a large order , The Eye round Pho Broth was lucke warm , It was missing the Thai Basil ,onios were less then few and the cilantro well lest not even go there. Both times I visited for lunch and had a great experience. I ordered the Beef Pho, and wonton soup and my guest ordered the chicken with vermicelli and summer roll. This is my new restaurant for Vietnamese food! Everyone was very friendly and helpful. My wife and I shared the grilled beef spring rolls and Vietnamese crepe for appetizers. The spring rolls had just the right balance of crunchiness and chew with the fillings. The crepe was hot and crispy and the pork and shrimp that were inside were perfectly cooked. The pho I had was amazing. Normally I will taste the broth first and then need to adjust the flavors- the broth here was super rich and beefy. Amazing service and amazing FRESH food. I've honestly never had a dish gone bad. Usually I order the pad Thai to go and enjoy the meal at home but I do love coming in to eat. It's quiet not too busy because most people who eat here are locals and pick up but the environment is very tranquil everything from the music to the decor. Staff is very attentive and kind. Menu is pretty diverse. Today I came with my husband for a date and we fell in love even more after ordering new dishes. We went to check out this place because it had replaced Saigon Blvd. We were not disappointed! I am glad they not only have pho but other authentic Vietnamese items, like bun bo hue and banh xeo. I got the bun bo hue because I miss my grandma's and it is the best Vietnamese dish imo, this one was surprisingly similar to hers and was very tasty! I just wish they added the pig blood because that really adds to the flavor and complexity of the dish. Although the food did take a few extra minutes than other pho places to come out and there were less than 5 tables we didn't mind because they just opened! The photo that I ordered was vegetarian and it was good the tofu was cooked and held consistency well (hard to do especially in takeout).
