During my business stay in San Jose, my cousin, Ryan, met up with me at my hotel, the DoubleTree, for a late dinner on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. Most places around the area were closing soon. Through yelp, I found PHO' BEL-AIR. Kudos to them for keeping later hours than others on weeknights. We actually could have walked to the restaurant from the hotel as it was not even a five-minute drive. There was sufficient parking in the lot of the small shopping centre and we found a space right away. The venue looked tiny from the outside, but once we walked inside, the place proved to be pretty decent in size. From the stacked chairs outside the front door, I assumed that they offer outdoor seating, but patio seating was already closed when we arrived. We came in past 9 without reservations to a dining room with only a few tables occupied. We were welcomed and seated to a table immediately. The single dining room has rows of marble top tables and wooden chairs. On the night of our visit the place appeared to be clean and tidy. Pho Bel-Air's menu is short and sweet with four APPETIZERS, 1.5 pages of NOODLE SOUP options (choice of BEEF, CHICKEN, VEGETABLE), and a last page of BEVERAGES, SMOOTHIES, and PEARL DRINKS. The chicken vermicelli plate did not disappoint. First, it was PACKED with tender and well spiced chicken. The noodles held up to being doused in sauce. The greens were fresh and crisp. The only thing I would have liked is if the items were layered like they would be if you are in. The to go box had partitions and the greens and peanuts were separate from the noodles and chicken so I couldn't mix them up as I do. But, minor issue. The food came out fast. I needed something for lunch because the hotel restaurant was closed and I'm so glad I came here!! If you're walking to this spot don't make the same mistake as I did and go to the back! The entrance is across from the Fairfield, opposite the Main Street. It's a small building but still with plenty of seating and feels very homey. You can tell this is a family owned business and I love that vibe. I only ordered to go, but the customer service was great. I got the small chicken soup with rice noodle as well as fried vegetable egg rolls. It was ready in about 10 minutes so very fast! Even though I ordered to go I had to see what the egg rolls were about while they were fresh. They came out piping hot and fried hard which I like! They were very crispy and I really enjoyed the sauce they came with. Even after my 10 minute walk back to the hotel the rest were still amazing! It's hard to tell from the pictures but considering I got the small it came with a lot of noodles which is a win for me. Of course we were craving pho! No one was opened so early near Coleman Costco but Pho Bel-air so we gave them a try. We arrived after 9am, service was fast since it was not busy. I got chicken pho and dad got tendon only pho. Broth was good, it was a noodle overload for both of us. They have a large television in the center of their establishment we got to watch the news while we waited. The food here hits so hard. The grilled meats for their vermicelli bowls are charred and the fish sauce is the perfect amount of salty/sweet. I get it with extra veggies and no noddles for a low carb version. Bless the owners for doing that for me. I also like a side of broth to sip on. We have been coming here for many years but we haven't been back for several months. The last time we were here we were not all that happy with the raw beef pho. The broth was watered down and the portions of raw meat and noodles were seriously lacking. We always order the number 11. This time the beef pho was different, the broth was very aromatic and flavorful. The noodles were cooked just right and not mushy. The portions of noodles and raw steak were very generous and more than I could eat in my small bowl. The service was very fast and friendly. One thing that might sway you from coming here though is the pricing. It is literally the most expensive pho I've seen in the Bay area. Pho Tai with around 15% tip is already $20+ & when I added extra noodle the one time I got less portion it was $25 with tip. I don't think a bowl of pho should cost THAT much, but at that point we're being really picky about a couple bucks. But when I like a restaurant I keep coming back, so that matters if you eat somewhere multiple times per week/month. The environment & ambiance is nice though. Despite the crowd, the owner was impressively attentive, quickly preparing tables and providing great service.
