I hiked 8 miles to Potato Chip Rock and afterwards, was feeling a bit dehydrated or kind of like a tire with no air, so after resting for a couple of hours, I found my body asking for soup and salt. And when that happens, it's usually a piping bowl of ramen or pho that will answer my body's asks, so I checked out this place! This restaurant is in a strip mall a few blocks from the pier (ok maybe more like a 15 min walk) literally next door to Sunshine Kitchen. Sunshine Kitchen had a lot of diners inside and out, and I felt a little FOMO while I stuck to my decision to eat at Pho Bowl & Grill. They have two tables for outdoor seating and since no one was sitting outside and the temp was nice enough, I asked to sit outside. No problem for the guy taking care of me. He was the waiter, the guy answering the phone, the guy making sure take outs/deliveries were happening and cashier, and he got it all done! What a magician. He was pleasant enough as Asian service is about getting down to business so he took my meatball pho and diet Coke order and got to work on it. I love Banh mi! One of my favorite dishes! This was the worst banh-mi of my life. Stale chewy bread, dry meat, dry everything, really bad. Also got a noodle dish, really bad. Overcooked noodles, dry beef,supposed to be ribeye...but the bread takes the 1st place for worst of his class. Ended up putting the sandwich filling on the noodles, since the bread was so bad. Pretty stinky when it first was set on the table though. Pho soup was ok only, was salty but lacked typical pho flavor. Decent but more meh. Veggies were fresh. You can choose between white or egg noodles for stir fry noodles. Crispy or soft. There is only one person working the front so have to wait until he's not busy between phone orders, register, etc to finally get his attention if you were to need water or an extra bowl. Love this place and often return to fulfill pho cravings. Been here countless times for dine-in and togo. They have great food, I've tried most of the menu and everything is delicious. I always order the shrimp spring rolls as an app, sometimes they have 2 to 3 shrimp inside or just 1 stretched out shrimp but I still get them everytime. I've had one of every entree, the pho, vermicelli noodles, fried rice, and stir fry noodles. You honestly can't go wrong, everything is good but I mostly come for the pho which I've tried with different meats and flavors depending on the mood. Along with the tea and boba, all of the flavors they offer are pretty good but my favorite is the jasmine with boba. Service is nice, they are usually very friendly. And they just recently remodeled with booths instead of the tables and chairs and it looks really nice, not that it was bad before but it's a good upgrade. Not very cozy and a bit austere, but clean. We ordered the shrimp spring rolls, grilled pork meatballs, house special phos and kid menu order of grilled chicken broken rice. Everything was priced fairly and the portions were good. We mistakenly ordered 2 orders of spring rolls. They are big so one order actually has 4 big half rolls. Like others have mentioned, the quirky thing is that the large ($15) order is only $0.50 more than the regular size ($14.50). The place is kid friendly and has TVs. They have a kids menu with pho, vermicelli and broken rice for $10. They gave my 2.5 year old a bubble tea sealed cup of water which was nice. She also enjoyed the meatballs and the chicken rice (was a bit bland to me, but maybe purposely so for the kids). The pho broth was very good with just the right amount of oil/fat and aromatics. A solid 4 star lunch. I ordered the vermicelli bowl (V1) with charbroiled pork, egg roll and shrimp. I was impressed by how much meat I got and I also enjoyed that the price was all the same regardless of what protein combo you got. What I felt could have been done better: the meat was overflowing in a smaller bowl that made it very difficult to mix everything up and to get to my noodles underneath. The pork was well seasoned but not charred and not grilled long enough. It was cooked and edible but soft. I would have preferred it to be dryer and less fatty. The eggroll was also not as crispy as I could have been. The noodles were warm. Are noodles supposed to be warm in the vermicelli bowl? No other Vietnamese place I've had has ever served me warmed noodles. That was the main reason for deducting a full star. And the last thing that would have earned a 5 star instead of a 4 star rating was the service was very mediocre. I had to stand up several times to get the server's attention while the man sitting at the table in front of me got checked up on multiple times. Was it a gender thing?
