On a recent trip out with a friend, she asked me "do you like pho?". I've had it once and liked it but felt like I should like it more so I was anxious to try Pho Cafe with her because she said their Pho is insanely delish. The restaurant Itself is a little nondescript. I think it used to be a Jimmy Johns sandwich shop so I was skeptical when we walked in. but once I saw the menu I had a much better vibe because everything sounded so good. I ordered the veggie spring rolls to start. They were deliciously crispy on the outside with shredded mushrooms and other veggies on the inside. It had a tasty fish sauce based dipping sauce with shredded carrots. Three little ones come in an order so it's the perfect size to share. My friend ordered the veggie pho which she says is her go to dish. It was packed with broccoli and tofu. I ordered the seafood pho which was AMazing! It was chock full of HUGE pieces of shrimp, plus there were small scallops, calamari rings, and crab in there. Tons of thin noodles ( maybe rice noodles?). The broth was so flavorful and the bowl was huge! There really is enough for 2-3 people in one bowl. They brought a plate of accompaniments you could add to your pho like bean sprouts, lime, and Thai basil. They had other dishes as well like stir fried noodles. Such a fantastic gem on Bardstown Rd! I've been here quite a few times and I gotta say, the Pho, Summer Rolls, Chefs Noodles and Mi Xao are absolutely YUMMO! The flavors of the food are always spot on, and you can taste the love and work into every dish. On a recent trip to Pho Café I learned that this establishment does NOT have a walk-in or deep freezer! Meaning that this place goes grocery shopping and does meal prep daily with the freshest ingredients to serve the tasty meals that they offer! Major win in my book, as I'm a firm believer that quality ingredients leads to quality food. This place also teams with some of those deliver services as well. I love that there is finally a pho restaurant in the commercial heart of the city. I want to see it succeed, and on the basis of early positive reviews, it clearly has a shot. Still, I have to say my first encounter here left me with a mixed impression. On a positive note, the pho with rare steak I ordered had few things going for it: the noodles had just the right amount of bite, the soup was piping hot, and the steak was truly rare upon service. On top of that, service was very prompt and friendly. Three issues, however: first, the broth was very salty. So much so that I couldn't really drink any of it after finishing everything else. Second, the quantity of beansprouts and herbs that was served with the soup was very small. Third, $14 (including tax and tip) is on the high side for pho, and there is nothing either quality- or quantity-wise to warrant this premium pricing here. Excellent food. Greeted and seated immediately. Shotgun style building with booths centrally tables front and rear and entrances front and rear. We grabbed a booth midway. The aroma of the food was intoxicating.Two servers alex and Travis both stopped by immediately and took drink orders. My wife had hot jasmine tea and I had a DC and water. (Beer only is available). They explained our options and gave their preferences. We started with delicious egg rolls served with a pickled carrot/fish sauce. Don't worry not fishy). We were trying to be healthy and they were very accommodating. My wife ordered the beef Pho without the rice noodles. The broth was very complex and surprisingly mild in spite of shaved peppers but delicious. The Thi basil was so aromatic and refreshing. The serving size is gigantic. To -go orders are placed in quart containers I had the shaken beef without rice. it's served with a small salad which they expanded for me. The beef was perfectly mid-rare as ordered. It has a great sear (crust) giving it a great textural contrast. The onions are out of this world. The flavors are delicious. We were offered desert but passed without looking at it. Pho Cafe knocks my socks off every time. The service is always more than friendly, and timely. I have lots of love for many other Vietnamese spots around town, and Pho Cafe undoubtedly has the best Veggie Summer Rolls and best Vegetarian Pho in the city. My meat-eating boyfriend also claims they have the best Pho in town. Tonight in particular he ordered the Pho Do Bien (seafood pho) and the scallops in that baby were voluptuous!! The last few times I've driven by, there's been 10+ people waiting outside. Finally on a Wednesday at 4pm I was only 1 of 3 customers, parking on Bardstown Rd or a side street was a breeze. I was helped right away upon walking in, I knew that I was going to order the Pho Bo because that's the cliche thing to do! But seriously, that's the best way to compare all these Vietnamese restaurants in town. It did take awhile for me to get my Pho, while my bean sprouts and garnishes sat out for 10-15 minutes since this came out first. The broth is very good. It really didn't need any extra fixings. Imo it's not the best in Louisville, but it's Top 4. My list goes A-Chau, Ngon Appetit, Vietnam Kitchen, Pho Cafe. I do wonder if the broth is cooked with beef marrow and tendons over night, it didn't taste like it to me because that's what separates great from good. The brisket was good and somewhat tender, meatballs were very sizeable and good, and beef came out a little rare so broth could cook it. This is very good Pho. The broth tasted like it was seasoned rather than being more natural with beef, that's my knock on it. While the Pho took awhile to come out, the waitress was attentive and polite. The modern concept with the large red booths, and hanging tv's makes it easy to come back and fits the local demographic well. I do think that $13-12 for a bowl of Pho is a little high. The bean sprouts and basil are smaller portions than most places as well. My pet peeve is when a very standard, traditional, cheap, Asian staple food becomes a premium product when it's not. However, I'd definitely come back for Pho or to try their banh mis and other appetizers. read more

We drove 20 minutes at about 8:00 on a Saturday night. Apple Maps said they were open until 11pm, and when we got there I checked the door too, since maps can often be wrong and the door said it was open until 11pm on Saturdays. We walked in, and the waitress said they had done last call at 8:30 and were closed. I don't care if you do close that early typically, but it wasn't like we walked in 20 minutes to 11 or something. It was 8:30 and they were supposed to not close for another hour and a half which would've been more than enough time for us to get food, eat and leave. We love Pho, we get it all the time. First time for pho for me and wow, what an amazing meal! Business lunch at this little eatery on Bardstown Rd. I like to try something new each time with this business associate and we were blown away by the flavorful food! Portions are huge! The restaurant is relatively small, sort of hidden away, with booths along the wall in front, tables in back. We sat at a booth right near the counter and were met by a lovely young server - with a smile. As this was the first Vietnamese restaurant for both of us, we asked what the #1 recommendation was. The chef enthusiastically said Pho! We reviewed the menu and selected appetizers - fried dumplings for her and summer rolls for me. I instantly fell in love with the summer rolls - with a dark hoisin peanut sauce that was absolutely delicious. The rice paper encased rolls were light and fresh, filled with shrimp, pork, rice noodles and herbs, including basil and mint! The portion is enough for a meal by itself and only $6.50. She enjoyed the crispy dumplings accompanied with the ginger soy. For entrees I selected the seafood pho and she went for a noodle curry plate with chicken. The pho was unbelievable. So flavorful. The broth was incredibly rich and flavorful but not fatty at all. I later learned that this beef bone broth simmers for 8 hours! Lots of noodles, shrimp, calamari, and krab sticks. I'm not a huge fan of the krab but there was plenty of other seafood in the bowl and I couldn't even finish half of the serving. Accompanied with fresh bean sprouts, jalapeño pepper slices and Thai basil. I added the basil and sprouts, grateful to have the option on the peppers. I am hooked. She gets home, and my $13 plate of noodles were not there. (Luckily, they didn't also forget the expensive, tiny, and bland crispy dumplings, so I got to eat something.) More trendy than traditional. We stopped here for a bowl of pho on a very chilly day. I am not from Louisville so I don't have much to compare it to. Or maybe I am just spoiled by how good the pho is back at home. I ordered the pho bo (combo). For the price, I was expecting a large bowl of awesomeness. Instead, I got a medium bowl of ehhhh. When I see combo, I think tripe, tendons, briskets, beef flanks, beef balls, everything. So it was a little bit of a let down. Perhaps it is more my fault than theirs for having that expectation. The flavor was there, but there were no depth to it. If you have to add hoisin sauce to a bowl of pho for flavor, then something isn't quite there. My daughter and I tried this based on the Yelp ratings this afternoon. This was very disappointing we both had the Pho Bo. The sliced chicken was very chewy but slightly better than the "meat" balls, which had no flavor more like pale hotdog or German wurst slices not sure what animal this is conjured from had the texture of baloney. We have had better Pho soup, we are world travelers and have eaten Pho from all over the globe, Munich, Mainz, Paris, and Dallas this is not the best ever, had better in Louisville on Main Street but they were closed so we tried this place again based on yelpers who clearly don't know Pho. Bathrooms are gross, require a code to use, and are shared amongst the buildings 3 restaurants, sticky floors (hoping from soap residue) and no lights over the stalls. In the restaurant itself we found food splotched on the wall of our booth and something unmentionable found on the siracha hot sauce bottle...never going back. Absolutely delicious! Hands down the best Pho I've ever had. I love Pho and have eaten at a lot of Pho restaurants and trust me, the BEST by far. This Pho taste better then my favorite Pho spot in Atlanta, sorry, just being honest. I had Pho Ga. the broth was fresh and flavorful as though I had made it in my own kitchen. The chicken was juicy and tender not dry like the white parts of the chicken can tend to be. OH...the jasmine tea, soooo delicious. The water tasted as if it came from a spring. The staff, UBER friendly and personable. The aromas in this place smelled of ginger, cinnamon & star anise....some of my favorite spices....it was comforting and warmed my soul. Over all it was okay. Since they have good reviews I was excited to come here. I had egg roles and Pho with Beef brisket. Pho was very good. I liked the broth but the brisket was not tender enough to chew also too much fat around the meat. Egg rolls are ok... Customer service was ok as well. Don't want to be rude but I'm not sure why the restaurant has such a good review... maybe I went to a bad timing. This was the biggest reason it's three stars though, the restroom liquid soaps were the ones you can buy from grocery stores, the small bottles(dial) my issue is all the soaps were mixed with water. It was kind of disgusting! Also the floor was wet with dark water I almost fell. Since it's a new restaurant in a good location, I hope they can work on sanitation and customer service. read more

We carry out from Pho Café every week or two. It never disappoints. We have had the crispy spring rolls which are always great, and have had both the Pho Ga and the Pho Bo as well as the Shaking Beef. Servings are always huge, the quality of the produce and meat is always excellent, and the broths are just delicious. They really care about turning out a good product and heat up your broth at the last moment before you pick up your order. Orders come with all the necessary items, all divided in the container to keep them separate until you mix them to dine. The service at the counter is always friendly and efficient in my experience. Not sure why I needed to come here more than 15 times before I wrote a review? This is our favorite pho in Louisville. While some may say that VK is better, I think that the ambiance, A/C, and convenience of location all more than make up for the difference. I am a creature of habit and I get the Pho Bo every. single. time. I do not put sriracha, hoisin sauce, etc in my pho. I do put bean sprouts, 1/4 lime wedge, jalapeños, Thai basil, and Thai chili peppers (pro tip: do NOT bite into these, your face will hurt!). I love the perfect level of saltiness, the flavor of the beef, and the overall food hug that I get when I eat pho. I love their appetizers but I can never finish my pho when I get them! I recommend any and all of the appetizers. I have never gotten any of the other entrees, because why do so when I come to "Pho cafe?" Highly recommend. read more

Went out tonight with some friends to try Pho Cafe. It was delicious! The venue is small but the seats aren't packed together. It was nice to have some space. I ordered the summer spring rolls which are Vietnamese spring rolls. They had shrimp in them and were wrapped in a rice paper. It was very light and refreshing. They give you two and they look super big but they're very light. So I was able to eat that and a bowl of pho without feeling stuffed. My favorite part of the spring rolls was the dipping sauce. It had a peanutty flavor. The pho was very good as well. I tried the one with seafood. They give you some toppings on the side. It tasted a little bland to me at first (I like a ton of bold flavors). So I added siracha and jalapeños. That really brought out the flavors. Overall the meal felt very healthy which was a huge bonus. The waitress provided good service and checked on us quite often. When we were ready to go she asked if we wanted microwave safe dishes for our leftovers. She also asked if she could bring us water to go which I thought was very nice. The chef (maybe the owner?) came out to check on us and thank us for coming. The only downfall was that for water, two spring rolls and a bowl of pho, my meal was $24 (without tip). I thought that was quite expensive for such a casual place although I did get seafood. I know he restaurant is still new but I hope they can maintain this level over service as I really enjoyed my meal there and will definitely be back. read more

You can also order online for pickup or find them on doordash if you want it delivered.
