I was staying close by due to an early flight from Paine Field, and this place was within walking distance, in a nearby strip mall. Ambiance was typical Asian strip mall cafe--very simple, harsh fluorescent lights. The service was brusque but efficient, and within just a few minutes I had a steaming hot bowl of pho (regular, with meatballs). This appears to be the kind of place where you are expected to know how to prepare your pho once you get it (no asking if you know how to prepare your pho to taste)--luckily I knew what I was doing and they provided all the fresh and condiment fixings. The broth was delicious--you could smell a hint of five spice, and it had that look of well simmered stock. And the meatballs were tasty. This is some of the best pho I've had in the Seattle area. For the first time ever Mukilteo finally has a pho restaurant! And this might be my favorite local spot right now. Lately, a lot of of my favorite restaurants have been skimping on the portion and raising the prices so it has become to a point of no return. When I tried pho Café, I was excited that it was only five minutes away from my house, but also because the soup comes out piping hot. They give you generous portions of meat and it's just a solid bowl of fun. You have to ask for their house chili oil, which they silently keep in the back for those who only know to ask for it. What a great find! The house special combination rice plate caught my eye because it's got shrimp, pork, and chicken. At other Vietnamese places you have to choose one so getting all three was quite nice. All three proteins were very flavorful and nicely charred. The service was courteous and efficient. At the time I stopped by it seems they have plenty of repeat customers as the patrons appear to be familiar with the staff. Definitely eating here again if I am ever back in town. read more

Had an appointment in Mukilteo and passed by this Pho spot again. Decided to eat a late lunch here and so glad I did. First thing I noticed was that there were people eating here at 3pm. Normally I thought it would be a slow time but they still had several people and pickups while I ate. My plan was to eat a bowl of pho since that's what I was craving, but the lady taking my order said they had a special. Special was a braised pork with egg over rice. I was craving noodles though so she nicely gave me a bowl of vermicelli and a small bowl of rice and told me to try both. The special pork tasted very similar to a pork adobo, but not as salty. It was SO GOOD. I told them they need to put this on the menu every day and she laughed. The pork was so tender and basically cut apart with just a fork. The eggs I thought were so good. I've had marinated eggs before, but the yolk on these was how you would expect hard boiled eggs to be like, but the white part was marinated. I absolutely loved this and the lady was so happy to hear that because she said it was intentional. Again had a pretty good meal here and the people working here (probably owners) are so nice. In short Brand new, already packed all the time, and absolutely killing it. They have all your favorites and they're putting some interesting twists here and there on the menu, too. In long I tried to get in here earlier this month and they were so wiped out from their grand opening they had to re-order a ton of stuff. Awesome problem to have, right? Yesterday the kitchen was easily hitting its stride. They're in one of the many strip malls along the Speedway. You might see them on your way to and from the ferry, and you could be forgiven for blithely drifting right by it with all the traffic. There's good parking, though, and probably an empty table inside. On a cold damp day during the cold damp month we've been having, hot soup is worth seeking out. We got menus, waters, and hot tea right away. The front-of-house staff seemed like all family, even lining up across generational lines (dad, grandpa, kiddo). Grandpa was wearing a t-shirt from a Viet brewery, but the place has no alcohol I don't think. We got a spring roll, the house special combo pho, and a "pho dip" banh mi. They were, unfortunately, out of the salmon roll. The kitchen is killing it, but the dining room is also getting killed, so occasional outs will happen. Now I'm dying to try that salmon roll on a future visit, though! Spring roll Dense, chewy, great peanut sauce for dipping. Great Sriracha on the table, to enhance that peanut sauce. This one is mostly protein and noodles, not much fresh herb sprinkled in, but the flavors are perfectly balanced and complement the textures so well. Pho dip Classic banh mi, served on a perfect baguette. The people at the next table can hear the crusty bread crackling as soon as you pick it up. Plenty of herbs, pickled bits, and tasty grilled meat inside. Served with a little dish of pho broth that truly enhances the flavor and makes it fun to eat. Special combo pho All the meats, including tripe and tendon, plus some nicely-spiced meatballs that could very well have been scratch-made. Also steak and flank, arriving bright red and perfectly smooth at the top of the hot broth. The regular is a decent serving. The broth leans more on seasonings than bone stock, but it has good depth of flavor and the different notes all work together really well. Very nice fresh chewy noodles with good flavor to them. The menu isn't much longer than all the other pho joints, but you get the sense they might keep adding creative twists, specials, new dishes, and all that. The whole family seemed super pleased with the food they're turning out, happily chatting about which dishes they love, and clearly showing that they always eat at work whenever they can. It's easy to see why. They were quick with napkins and utensils (which aren't on the table), and quick with reassuring questions about whether you were good with chopsticks, stirring up noodles, and all that. They're pretty far down the hill, and must be getting quite a few folks who haven't all tried Vietnamese food before. (Yesterday, they also had plenty of customers who looked like they'd been eating Vietnamese food their whole lives). Prices here are very fair, and this place has all the makings of a neighborhood institution for years to come. read more

We were glad to see a new Vietnamese restaurant in Mukilteo. It's is located in a strip mall across from Taco Bell. Ambiance: First impression was the harsh white hospital tube lighting. Not recommended if you're on a date because it washes out your skin tone. The inside temperature was cold so we kept our jackets on as did others. We sat at a table where I could feel a cold draft attacking my legs due to the back door being propped open so I asked the waitstaff to close it. This was late November after all. We ordered the special pho ($14.50 regular & $15.50 large) and rice plate with grilled shrimp, chicken, and pork ($15.50). High score for the meats on both entrees as they were very tender. I felt the portions were on the small size for the price. Menu was basic with pho, bun, rice, and sandwiches. I asked about Bun Bo Hue that other reviewers mentioned but our waitress said it was only available on weekends depending on the chef. I prefer Vietnamese restaurants with more specialty offerings but if you are craving the basics, Pho Cafe is worth a try. read more

This place always makes my mouth water as I drive by. The smells coming from here are incredible! The pho is really good. It really hits the spot on a cold day. I haven't tried the other dishes because I feel like I would be missing out on such wonderful Pho if I do! The ambiance is nothing fancy but is pleasant. It is very reminiscent of small "hole in the wall" restaurants that I have been to in Vietnam or Thailand, but this place is cleaner. The serving staff is very friendly. I enjoyed chatting with a young man named "Dee" who was manning the register. They were very patient with me and mu friend when we ended up taking up a table and chatting for a few hours one day. The nouc beo (fatty broth) is delicious and a tell tale sign if your Pho is legit or not. The chili oil is also delicious and a great example of the effort they put into their business since its made in house. Just when I thought this place couldn't get any better, I had their beef rib Pho (limited time only) with steak and brisket. The food coma was real and worth it! Wow. We use to go to Basil for our pho fix but the service the last few times had us looking for a new spot and we found it here at Pho Cafe! The broth was stellar. Full of flavor and so clear! I noticed I didn't feel the need to over sauce it with Sriracha and hoison like I have at other places. What was even more appreciated, was how attentive the staff was. We didn't have to ask for more napkins or water, we were frequently checked on. When we pulled up we had a good feeling. The place had just about every table full at 2pm on a Friday. I really can't say enough about how impressed we were with the broth. My only complaint would be that the portion of meat was a little smaller than what I'm accustomed to but next time I'll just ask for extra meat to accommodate. I was so excited to know about new Vietnamese restaurant open near my location. I took my family to try out their food. It was super disappointed with their foods. They were all salty & too much msg in them. My family is not allergic with msg but will have reactions if eating something with too much msg.
